I live close to this Hy-Vee, use it's pharmacy, do some in store shopping here, and have wanted to make it my go to. But there are a few things that could use some work... Here's one example. I tried the Aisles Online service the other day. What a sh!t show... These guys could really take some lessons from Walmart and Fareway. I placed an order on Sunday for a sheduled pick up of between 300 PM and 330 PM. As of 400 PM I hadn't received a text or an email saying my order was ready so I called into the store... I was told that some of the totes containing items from my order probably hadn't been picked up yet, but to go ahead and head that way in the next hour or so and everything should be ready. Oh hindsight... The "should" in that sentence was the key word. I think it was close to 500 PM when I finally got a text my order was ready. By that time I had driven to the store and pulled into a side lot on the West side of the store over by the loading dock within eyeshot of the Aisles Online pick up area...just sitting and waiting. After getting the message I pulled around and up into a lane at the stand alone Aisles Online kiosk. An attendant came out who asked for my name and then walked back into the kiosk and brought me my order... Well kind of anyway. They put the bags in the back of my car and turned to walk away... "Woah! There's not enough groceries here to even meet the minimum order... Where's the rest of my stuff?" I showed them my phone with the complete order, they checked their ticket, apologized, and went to check on things... Evidently the rest of my order was still up at the store? I watched them run up to the store and return about 15 min later pushing a cart with the rest of my groceries. So my scheduled 300 to 330 PM pick up finally ended closer to 540 PM. At one point I was done and really just wanted to cancel my order and move on with my day. While for other services and shopping I would normally rate this store at 4 stars my recent Aisles Online experience was so bad (1 or 2 stars) that I'll even my overall review out to 3 stars. They really need to look at their online ordering and pick up model compared to other retailers (where I've NEVER had this happen)... And step up their game. It was truly awful. read more

I made my way to the Windsor Heights Hy-Vee today to grocery shop, making a point of grabbing my returnables (8 eight mini glass soda bottles) before heading out. My first stop was the bottles and cans recycling room. Unfortunately, their one and only glass machine was non-operational. And so I took the bottles to the Customer Service counter, where three store employees got involved in a 40¢ refund. It was clear from moment one that me and my little soda bottles were not welcome there. After much back and fourth between the three workers, the young girl who initially greeted me at the register proceeded to count up the 8 mini bottles, ringing in the .40¢ refund. At the last moment one of the other workers made reference to a fourth Hy-Vee employee who had "just walked by," stopping the transaction in its tracks. At this point I had had enough. I verbalized the fact that making a bottle return was clearly problematic for them. I grabbed my bottles and walked out. If you're in the business of selling soda, then be in the business of selling soda. Otherwise, get out. You're the most expensive game in town, your customer service should reflect that. She was extremely accommodating in helping me to get a Thanksgiving meal delivered to my elderly aunt & mom's home in WH for them to enjoy a delicious HyVee dinner. Neither of them drive, my brother is out of town and I live in Arizona. She was very understanding of my dilemma and could not have been kinder by truly embracing the spirit of the holiday season! Unfortunately yet another Hy-Vee that per the norm does not meet expectations and in some ways goes beyond even my lowest ones. We will start with the good. The store is well placed and seems to carry items that others do not such as my mothers favorite lettuce escarole. They do keep their shelves stocked more than others and the store is relatively clean. Now the bad. This store has no real social distancing. There are some markers on the floor by the registers but they are not enforced. In fact I've witnessed floor managers encouraging people to squeeze together rather than be apart. More than once I've had to tell people to back up after them doing so. During my last visit which was during a fairly busy time they actually tried to start a crowd/stamped to the meat counter to get a deal on ribs "for the next 10 minutes only". Every few seconds they were back on the intercom telling people to hurry up that there were 'only 5 minutes left' to get the deal etc. This is irresponsible in a time that we should be encouraging people to stay socially distanced and not gather when others are around. This was an effort to do the exact opposite and it worked. There was a very large group in the area of the meat counter - so much so that it leaked into other area's where i got trapped in a large crowd who would not stay back. I understand the need to sell their products but it is very obvious that they put profit above safety. They were the first to remove the one way markers from their isle's and they only required masks when the governors mandate was done. I imagine now that it is being allowed to expire they will no longer require them. I have not spoken to the management about these things because in the past whenever I have spoken to someone at this location I have been treated with indifference and sometimes even disdain. Hy-Vee recently created what I call an expensive "Sams Club". In order to receive their special prices, you must become a Member. Cost is one--hundred dollars. Members receive fuel saver points for their gas. I can't afford one-hundred dollars, therefore, I do not receive fuel saver benefits any longer. Hy-Vee draws individuals in daily with special deals. Most of the time, but not always the ads show "while supplies last". Which, since the shopper is at Hy-Vee they buy other products. I find their Membership too costly and their ads sneaky. Very disappointed in Hy-Vee these days. I would absolutely give Hy-Vee pharmacy five stars. Very friendly, professional. A pleasure to do business with the pharmacy. I would certainly hesitate shopping at Hy-Vee if not for their great pharmacy Thank you for your time and consideration.. Respectfully submitted. read more

Oh Hy-Vee, You know I love you, but that parking lot is bringing me down! Not only is it hard to navigate but my cart full of Ice ran away from me while I was putting balloons in the car and almost took out a nice father and daughter shopping! Luckily he caught it before I did, as it would been to late! I think this Hy-Vee is great, and has a wonderful booze section, but I think they maybe charged me a little more then Fleur Hy-Vee to blow up some balloons. Oh well, I used to love to come to this Hy-Vee after work and get the bulk Peanut Butter Pretzels! SO SO SO good! This Hy-Vee also has a killer Health Market section, and you know they got friendly smiles in every isles. Let's get a traffic control person for that parking lot though... seriously! read more

I just recently started using the app to online order and have my groceries delivered. I have had to throw out more food than is necessary because the shoppers select what is close to being thrown out. bought chicken Friday, the use by date was Sunday. Threw it out tonight (Sunday evening) because it went bad before the best by date. I've received pepperoni past the expiration date and milk that showed up the day it went bad. The store was recently renovated - to the point that Starbucks won't open until Monday. Didn't matter, this store had several customers enjoying breakfast!! They had many options. We has specific needs in mind, so was happy to find our choices. Don't know about price comparison to other stores. The 4 is for selection and customer service. We looked a little lost trying to find a specific item so someone came to help. Realizing we just needed a simple bottle of water, the cashier showed us the cold store brand vs the national brand that we saw first - thanks for that! read more

Wow, I had REALLY bad pick up service today, I was in line for 33 minutes. When I left the line was just as long as when I got in it. I hadn't picked up at HyVee for a while because I was picking up at the nearby Walmart. I'll be returning to Walmart which has better service, more pick up times and a better app that allows you to add items after you place your order and you can keep or reject substitutions when you pick up. read more

Hy-Vee... they've gotten much too big for their britches. The prices are so high, I actually find myself gasping as I walk down the aisles. Am I crazy? What is different about the food at Hy-Vee than the food at Fareway that they feel the need to charge so much more for it? It's unbelievable. I've actually walked out of Hy-Vee, because I simply could not bring myself to shop somewhere that charges such astronomical prices for the same groceries that you can get anywhere else. The reason why the prices at Hy-Vee are so high is because of all the amenities that they provide. Dry cleaning, Chinese Express, 1 hour Photo, DVD rental, an over-priced Health food section, dietitians that will walk the friendly aisles with you and help you pick out your over priced food! All of these conveniences come at a price, and it's rolled into the price of your food. No thank you. read more

"Fiendish Smile In Every aisle", This is the best Hy-Vee in town. They have almost everything you can think of, well their produce section is a bit lacking sometimes. They have a large selection of health / organic / niche "trendy" diet foods. Other than that it's still Hy-Vee and they have big city grocery store envy. Their management are still a bunch of sleaze balls. You won't ever see the same employee's from trip to trip, because they won't pay for experience. It's been years since I've been to a Hy-Vee, I have very fond memories as a child visiting family who lived in Iowa & coming here. My parents & I decided to grab something quick for dinner from their hot food section. They had pizza, Chinese, a salad bar & a deli. We all chose the Chinese section, the smell was amazing coming from their section. I ordered a 2 entree plate which came with orange chicken & sesame chicken, steamed rice & an egg roll. Both chicken dishes were sooo delicious. Very fresh, the food had just come out of the fryer :) Score! We talked about visiting again before the end of our trip but ran out of time, it was that good! Can't wait to visit again the next time I'm in town. read more

First time here since the restaurant changed from market grill to market express and we have been waiting 30 minutes for our food. We have been weekly regulars under the old model but we likely wont be coming back for a while to give them time to work the kinks out during this transition form market grill (sit down service) to the market express (pay and order at counter before sitting). We would leave, but we already paid, so now we feel stuck even though we have places to be. That said, typically this is our go to spot because they are open earlier than some other breakfast places and the food is good, consistent and reasonably priced. Now that the food has arrived, I'm wishing hyvee had proper silverware instead of this flimsy plastic stuff. At least i can gut my own soda refills and take my full glass to go with me. UPDATE went back for breakfast again (There's been a lot of coupons for BOGO or other market grill deals lately) and found out that if you sit at the bar or high tops, you can still receive full service. There was a minor mix up with our order so our server didn't charge for one of our pops. I really appreciate that kind of service and you aren't likely to be compensated like that when you prepay for your order. Bumping my review up one star. read more

This is a great grocery store. The parking lot is a slight hassle, but I generally park all the way on the north side, and can exit quite easily. It seems to be an older, slower-moving customer base -- and, in that way it's quite refreshing and calm. read more

I like going to this particular Hyvee since its really close to where we live. I usually just walk or ride my bike which is nice to do during summer. The only thing I can say good in this store are the staff who are very helpful but we rarely buy anything more than a full plastic bag here. I've been through a lot of places just to get our weekly grocery. We can't buy all of our stuff here. Compare to the other grocery store that we go to, even the basic stuff are expensive than the one from Target or Walmart (I don't go to Walmart anymore, I'll rather pay a few cent more to just to go Target now) My husband usually go to Walmart and he knows that there's a huge pricing difference between the two store. The only reason we come most of the time is the special meat section. The best time to check it will be early in the morning and at the end of the day. They become more a little cheaper. I love cooking meat that's not frozen and this is where I get them. Just carefully check the packaging and the smell as well. The expiration date will help as well. They sell like a day before you need to freeze it or just use it immediately. It just terrible that some of them are just being crushed by another pack of meat. Aside from the sticker that they put on the package, there's no other sign unless you ask the butcher and a regular here. It's a thing that works for us and we've saved a lot of money just by checking every day or every other day. The usual lamb chops that would retail around $15-20 will just be $8. That fed my husband and daughter. You can't beat that really. My husband has a Hy-Vee gas card thing. But you can save more only if you buy items like those powdered donuts no one I knew actually eats, so that was a waste. Plus, gas is much cheaper now soooo...yeah. For the ladies, this may not be a good place to buy your toiletries make-up etc. The last I bought shampoo is more expensive here than if you just go to Walmart or Target. There're not many brands to choose from. This might be a silly note but we don't frequently come to some of the old Hyvee due to the fluorescent lighting they have particularly in this store. It does hurt my eyes sometimes. I feel like every time I go out of the store during the day I have to recalibrate my eye. Whites spots will just be everywhere. Anywaaaaaayyyy... They also have a dry cleaning service here. I tried once and never did it again. I took my wool coat over here. I was told to come back after a few days and it should be ready. They had my contact information but for some reason since my coat has a leather lining they told me they can't do it. They didn't bother to call us to let us know and that they need permission that it is ok to dry clean my coat. Was told to come back again after a few days and unfortunately, it was not there and was told that they have a third party company that do the dry cleaning for them. I told them that I am aware of that and couldn't tell me why they would have us come back a lot of time for one piece of clothing. (Now we take all of our coats to executive cleaners which are way cheaper). They have a good selection of spirits too close not that I care but you know. Anyway, I would still come back to this place to get some good deal on meat, just head straight there and get out. We don't bother ourselves on whatever sale they have coz it's just a regular price when you go to another store. They just entice people thinking that they can save money. There's a lot of grocery store that is coming to the area and they'll have a lot more competition here so hopefully they'll be more reasonable on their prices. Clean store with wide aisles and easy shopping. Not the cheapest place to shop, but has a great variety of items. The staff has never disappointed me in their willingness to help out. I recall the time before Hy-Vee was built in Windsor Heights, Ia. There was a small grocery store that had everything an grocery shopper would need. Hy-Vee, in my opinion spends so much advertising that could go to lowering their prices. They believe that their "Fuel Saver" hype will bring in the customers. It does. Individuals purchase items that are not needed just to get the fuel saver perks. I do not. Because of this, the Fuel Saver perk does nothing for me. I have heard it through the grape-vine that Hy-Vee's employees are underpaid and not appreciated by management. When I do shop at Hy-Vee, I will purchase a product one week at regular price and the next week it's ten to fifty cents more that the last week. I was excited when Aldi's had planned on building a grocery store in Windsor Heights, that was shot down. I'm sure Hy-Vee had a major part in that decision. Hy-Vee continually moves products around. Why, so shoppers have to hunt for what they need and purchase more items that are not needed. Who do you think you are fooling? Their deli is over-priced. Hy-Vee's least expensive ham is slimy. It's so wet that you almost have to wring it out before making a sandwich. Obviously the ham is frozen and thaws out in there display case.I have purchased produce on sale that doesn't even have a two day shelf life. If I had a magic wand, I would replace Hy-Vee for Fareway. Fareway employees get every Sunday off. Their employees are treated with respect by management. As far as the bakery, I would never, never purchase anything that is made at the Hy-Vee in Windsor Heights. I have seen flies landing all over the donuts and other bakery items prepared on-sight. The Marketplace restaurant has "plastic food". Mediocre is the perfect adjective for the Marketplace. I thank you for allowing me to express my opinions. Hopefully, Hy-Vee will improve. The Hy Vee in Windsor Heights is by far the best Hy Vee. Their health section is truly phenomenal! They have such variety and options for vegans, health conscious people and normal regular joes! Their alcohol section is getting better (the hyvee at 42nd and university is the best) and the worker in the alcohol area truly knows his beer and is always willing to give suggestions. I wrote letters to the corporate hyvee for food items to be stocked and within a week, I was contacted and they updated me on their progress for getting the foods. After more then a week it was stocked. Let me tell you.....some of these health food items are A LOT cheaper compared to Campbells or Dahls. Absolutely worth the trip to go there. Also, shop for health items on Wednesdays and get 10% off! You can't beat that! I will wait longer for specific cashiers because they are very kind and truly give amazing service. They get to know you and ask about your day. Definitely my favorite shopping location. Also, young people can ride the play horse (that plays music and rocks back and forth) they have there for free - a lot of fun for the little ones! read more
