Upon stepping foot into this particular HyVee, my socks were knocked off! To me, this HyVee is Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Safeway/Vons, and Ralphs rolled into one. The lighting is fantastic, I felt relaxed and happy. The aisles are wide with all sorts of merchandise fully stocked. Everything was spic and span, I almost felt I can eat off the floor! A section of the store was dedicated to just organics and "healthy" options, including kombucha drinks. Another area of nuts and sorts sold by the pound, you scoop it yourself. Personally, all they need to sell here is clothes and then it'd really be a one stop shop! Ample parking for easy in and easy out. If only there were a HyVee out west... I'd be there daily!

Went in yesterday during lunch to grab a salad at $5.99/lb. The salad bar didn't seem well attended to it and the items were chopped very poorly in my opinion. I use to go to the Price Chopper in Shawnee off K-7 & Shawnee Mission Parkway & their salad bar was nice. Anyways, the red onions were chopped in many different sizes (thin, thick & stuck to the root still). I'm not exactly sure how they set up the bar but you would think most veggies would be by each other. I was looking for cauliflower but only saw broccoli which if you go past the cheese & meat you'll find the cauliflower. Maybe someone put it in the wrong spot. Everything else seemed fine. I saw they had chili for $4.99/lb. I might need to go there for my chili fix but I'll see. The store is nice & the associates seem nice. Nothing bad to say about it.

Beef chuck roast is what's for dinner ! The roast is marbled ver well and big ! Nice cut!

Kudos to HyVee for having a disabled call button that is easily accessible for the disabled!

It is often the little things that make me a loyal customer. I don't generally frequent HyVee for gas. I like to be consistent in my gas buying and HyVee Gas Stations just are not widespread enough. Today I stopped because I have a bunch of gas rewards. I generally save them because I can use them at Casey's and it makes for less costly trips to Iowa while I can fuel up cheaper at Sam's here. When I pulled in I noticed specific pumps marked for disabled people. I was curious about what made these pumps different. I noticed that they have call buttons that are at the level where someone in a wheelchair or motor scooter could access them easily. Someone could even pull up and press the button from their car. Most stations a disabled person would have to find the call button on a nearby post that is often out of reach or reach for the call button on the pump. This makes HyVee Gas my go to station now. That extra care, even though I don't need it, shows what a great company they are and that they care about their customers. Those are the companies I want to spend my money at. They also have fuel savers on many of the items in the convenience store.

11 freezer meals for $150 - prepared over 5 hours by 4 Hy-Vee staff members and 5 women in our party.

The deli section is second to none, and the meat counter is formidable with a capital F. Everyone seems well put together, and no one seems disenchanted by the long hours placing box on shelf, so that's refreshing. Albeit, their prices are of the posh variety if you can manage it, but, their sale ad is downright welfare at times! I believe I got my thanksgiving turkey here for a song and a handshake - while other establishments across the city tripled their admission fee for such a pleasure. I know what they're doing, I worked in retail before - and I dig it! It's not such a large place, but it's got the goods going for it. This place seems like the way grocery stores aought to be, in-line with the stores of the 50's where the meat guy knew when you'd get your bonus, and he'd have that ribeye ready to go when you walked through the door. It's a fancy dandy, and that's a refreshing take on todays drab disenchantment of gainful employ. I'll frequent often, and you can take that to the bank!

That said, I think most will find Hen House offers a trade off as most can get in and out a little more quickly in a smaller store while they don't get bombarded with items other than groceries however their in-house crafted food options are less diverse. Addressing the in-house made foods, I find them above average compared to other grocery stores. While I would opt away from premade pasta dishes as they tend to overcook their pasta and anything fried as sitting for a long time means they get soggy, the rest of their food is pretty good. The chicken cordon blue rolls are really good, their pies, especially the silk chocolate pie are heavenly! Oh, as with almost all grocery stores, avoid sushi as the rice crystalizes as it sits and the temperature comes down. Sushi rice needs to be warm as it juxtaposes the coldness from the fish. I mean, it's better than not having sushi but I've never been happy with getting sushi then eating at home and being happy, much less satisfied. In other words, use the right tool for the job (ie call a sushi restaurant). As for groceries they have a somewhat diverse selection other than produce. For instance, the mushroom selection isn't great. Also, they don't have 50 different apples to select from however they do have enough to satisfy the vast majority of families. As for exotic foods such as Dragonfruit, Buddha fingers, watermelon radish and star fruit, it's a hit or miss if they carry them at all. Now I've never seen any bad produce such as moldy fruit hiding in the back. They take great care in rotating their stock. Also, they have a pretty good salad bar there which I use to use a LOT. My overall assessment of Hen House is it works well for its target group, middle class Kansas families looking for good prices on food that is pretty standard with having some "elegances" spread out enough to allow those who are adventurous to try something new. The shelves are well stocked, the environment clean and safe, and the people are very friendly. The prices are the competitive but I find them a smidge higher than the larger grocery stores. Hen House is a great grocery store if it's close by and you're in a rush.

Unfortunately that's not what happened and I was too hungry to say anything. I had the falafel bowl. The dude just piled up whatever was in the bins & threw them in the bowl with some kind of awkward semi organized manner, while *completely* ignoring the hummus and the garlic sauce. I swore he put the hummus in first, but at the end I asked him if there was Hummus in my falafel bowl- and the answer was no. As in NO HUMMUS IN A FALAFEL BOWL. I also wanted garlic sauce and he refused to put it into MY food only on the side like some kind of lame afterthought for the flavor impaired. My buddy got the shawarma wrap, which looked more like a taquito. They put french fries in the shawarma wrap, along with a little bit of shawarma- and not much else. The advertise price was $9.99 but when we got to the register the price became $11.99. when we brought it to their attention that his shawarma wrap was not actually what they charged us - which they called a "viral ribeye shawarma" they try to tell us the extra $2 was for the nine french fries they added to the package. I GET that were in Kansas, and there's not too many folks that even know what a falafel or shawarma is- but these guys who spoke the language of these regions so they certainly do, or I guess I should say- they used to know what it was. I am quite disappointed by what they've become, I hope they understand this- but I probably won't find myself willing to give it another shot for a while.

I have been trying to figure out which grocery store had those fruit shaped cakes. I walked into World Fresh Market. The front of the produce reminded me of City Market. Beyond the produce, not a regular store. This grocery store has the prettiest cakes I've ever seen. There's flan larger than a regular cake. There's bags of iced cookies. Breads of all types. Oh, they also have tacos plus a Mexican restaurant attached. The bakery winds around to the middle of the store. Those fruit shaped cakes? Right there. So cute and looking yummy. I can't say enough about the bakery. I bought little fruit shaped watermelon fruit cakes. I also bought pistachio filled croissants. This is absolutely my favorite store. I'll be back cause I'm in this area often. But seriously, stop by the bakery and get a mousse cake if you want to be the favorite at a potluck.

I wish it was around when I was living in the area. I would definitely be a regular customer! I visited on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, and the store was organized, neat, and easy to navigate, which was a lovely start. I had two main items on my mission: grabbing the Back to Nature Peanut Butter Creme Crackers (a snack I became obsessed with after a trip to New York!) and picking up a specific protein powder for my mom, which was on a great Buy One, Get One 50% Off deal. However, the real highlight was the service, thanks to Dahlia, a head cashier employee who stopped to help us. Dahlia was incredibly kind and went above and beyond. She walked us through the free rewards program, explaining not only how to find coupons but also detailing a huge deal: if you buy $100 or more in health & beauty products (including that protein powder!) within a three-month span, you will be able to get 30% off your next purchase. She explained that the purchases history for this deal resets after the three months are up. She even took the time to offer personalized recommendations, sharing her own experience with thinning and oily hair and suggesting specific shampoo and conditioner products for me to try. After Dahlia helped me with the rewards sign-up, I checked out with a different cashier. This cashier was also super nice; she knew I was setting up the account and proactively made sure I either entered my phone number or had my rewards barcode scanned before I paid, guaranteeing I got my points for that trip. The service didn't end there! I had a $3 off coupon for the protein powder that wouldn't go through due to the store's poor cell service/Wi-Fi connection. Dahlia, without hesitation, simply gave me $3 back in cash to honor the coupon deal--that is truly above and beyond customer service. I highly recommend this location! The product selection is great, and the atmosphere is pleasant, but the staff--especially Dahlia--is what makes this store shine.
