I have been taking my 4 children to Dr.Hurwitz for the past four years. I have an autistic ADHD son and she is great since she also specializes in developmental behavioral health. She has treated us kindly, efficiently & always answers any after hour calls. She respects my choice not to vaccinate and is never pushy. With that being said, my recent time there a few weeks back was absolutely horrible. The staff is new & unorganized as well as very slow, the books are no longer in the waiting room, they have an automated phone system that takes annoying long to get through to an actual front desk person & the nurse practitioner (Angela, I think) was so extremely pushy on my daughter getting two vaccines. I recommend NOT going there! I am very unhappy with the changes that have been made. read more

Are you seeing a trend with the reviews lately? That's because ever since Dr. Hurwitz switched to be part of Rady's Children's Group, her practice has gone downhill and long-time clients are fed up. My wife and I are one of them. We experience at least 1-hour wait times every time we show up now and today was the last straw: my son was scheduled (by the office staff, mind you) to receive a shot and when they finally got into the patient room, the nurse walked in and asked, "So what are we here for today?" Seriously, isn't that YOUR job to know?! When my wife replied that he was here for his next shot, the nurse said that he was too close to the last one and he would have to wait a couple more weeks. My wife responded, "Then why did the staff schedule him for today's appointment?" and the nurse responded, "I have no idea". Obviously no one at this place does. We are through as we are sick of wasting our time with a practice that doesn't care about its patients and obviously has no idea what they are doing. We've wasted more time here than we'd like to think about. Also, notice that they don't read any of these comments as they never reply... Good riddance. read more

Dr Hurwitz is an amazing DR.she has treated all my kids and we adore her. the personal touch of being able to have an on call Dr was amazing for my asthmatic son. now she has sold her practice to Radys children and i am so disappointed. when i was there on Monday they called my sons name and another woman walked up at the same time. they started telling her all about my child and my bill. Really....... why did i have to sign a privacy policy if you cant keep my info private. after about 15 years as a patient we will be searching for a new pediatrician :( read more

I have taken my children to Dr. Hurwitz for 14 years and she's always been amazing and thorough. We always got same day appointments and it always felt personal and warm. Now that she is with Rady's, they can't get you in same day and tell you to go to their after hours service that is open from 6 to 8:30pm located in a different building, make an appointment for a different day or go to urgent care. Um, my daughter has what looks to be strep throat. I'm not making an appointment for another day! So impersonal now! Before the switch, I was NEVER told to go to urgent care! The worst organization at the office. I scheduled a physical for my son but they scheduled him for sickness so after waiting for more than 30 min. They charged me a co-payment that im not supposed to pay for a physical. I told them that and they said that since the appointment was for a physical they can not see him at the moment so we have to re schedule for more than a month later!!! Then my daughters had their appointment for a physical and we have been waiting here for more than an hour and still they haven't call us. Im so frustrated and disappointed with this office!!! read more

Overall 4 STARS Dr. Hurwitz should get 5 STARS regarding her professionalism. I was referred to her office by a friend in November 2014 and was pleasantly surprised to find how down to earth, sweet and kind she was to answer all my questions. This was my 3rd time in her office and she is just a doll. The front office staff is always so friendly and helpful. Now this is why I rated 4 STARS her staff in the back office that administrate vaccines not so friendly. My Daughter went in for her vaccine and we only expected one vaccine and seen three. No child likes shots and my child is one of them. When I asked the young lady (who is the age of my oldest child), why is there additional vaccines (as any parent would I would think) the Medical Assistant answered, "vaccines" as if I should have NOT ask?? I let it go, knowing in the back of my mind she was answering me with attitude for no reason and disturbed I asked?? I then followed her one-worded responds asking the same question again but in different wording advising we only came in for one. She then told me the names of each vaccines but nothing else. I now didn't let her attitude slide this time. I kindly told her in a firm voice, I know why I'm here and know what that particular vaccine is for. The additional two I have no idea what there for and I just don't shot my children up with shots unless I know what they're for. She apparently didn't want to explain them and said, I'll get the doctor for you!! LOL!! Please do little girl.. I do NOT need a kids attitude because she's upset she's busy at work... Dr. Hurwitz came in apologize for her MA and explained with a smile... Not sure if the MA was having a bad day but not a way to come to work. Leave your baggage at the door kid. Another MA came in and administrated the vaccines. Another reason for 4 STARS is their bathrooms in back office smell bad and need to be clean. You can smell it when walking by to your room. Dr. Hurwitz office is extremely busy, best time to go is during school hours. Also, I was disappointed to read signs of fees charges on wall to write letters normally doctors provide for free. If this is her office policy I would expect it to be on paper, signed by patient or guardian and placed in file. That would look more professional instead of the wall, just my professional opinion office manager.. Hint Hint... read more

She is an amazing doctor. We have been with here since our first child was a few days old. We have two serious medical issues with our first and our family is so thankful that she was our doctor to catch and make sure our daughter saw the best specialist to help her along with her own care. I was referred to dr hurtwitz by a neighbor and my OB when my baby was a newborn. Now she's five! What can I say? I have nothing but love for this lady and her office. She is straight and to the point and gives excellent care. She is experienced, loving, and gives you the right counsel. My only complaint is I can't stay and chit chat longer with this dynamic soul! Dr. Hurwitz is a phenomenal doctor and goes out of her way to make sure your child receives the best care possible but since she's become part of Rady's Children's Hospital the practice has fallen apart. We've been multiple times in recent months, for both well and sick child appointments, and the wait times have gone through the roof! A 2 hour wait is now fast to get back to the patient room and then another 45 minutes to be seen. Waiting three hours with a sick baby is the LAST thing you want. Her staff is completely overwhelmed and you can tell their patience has worn thin when dealing with a fussy child (toddler). Until she gets this worked out and learns how to schedule appropriately, or increase her staff, I will not be able to recommend this office. It's a real shame because Dr. H really is fantastic. Happy to give 5 stars if they can ever bring back decent scheduling and service. read more

Dr Huerwitz and her staff are AMAZING!!! She goes above and beyond. A Dr is always available.. even after hours. She treats both of my children with kindness and respect. She understands when I am worried about my child and calms my concerns. My child recently had an unpleasant and painful surgery in which I was informed by his surgeon that I would need to unpack and repack his wound on a daily basis for a month. Without hesitation Dr Huerwitz said bring him in.. We will do it. Even on a Saturday... Love, love, love this office!!!! read more

The office doesn't respond to prescription refills. We have been with her for 7 years. We are not happy. My child loves Dr. Hurwitz and is upset that I want to find a new pediatrician for her. We have been with Dr Hurwitz for 8 years with 4 kids. She is available 24/7 if you need, and listens when our concerns differ from her treatment plan. She is ALWAYS busy, because she and her staff are awesome. We trust her PA's and understand when there is a wait. She is a work-a-holic that is good at her job. Here we sit at our first appointment with this office. We chose Dr Hurwitz because of the good reviews from previous patients - I have to agree with the others that the wait time is ridiculous. Waiting over an hour so far.... and we were here at 8:20am with nobody else in the waiting room. will be changing primary care providers after this appointment. Unfortunately we won't even get to meet the Dr (Hurwitz) as she is on vacation otherwise the introduction might be worth the wait. Side note, the office & wait areas are less than desirable. The wait area does not look like a Pediatritian office (chairs along a wall that desperately need to be repaired & paint) & the area behind the reception looks disorganized, cluttered & very unprofessional. I was turned off by that initial appearance, now the wait just adds to the reasons to change primary care providers. Took my teenage daughter to get tested for allergies. My daughter is underweight because she has a fast metabolism. (I was the exact same size and weight when I was her age). Without even knowing me, or my daughter, Dr H started insinuating that she was anorexic and she wanted to immediately refer her to a psychiatrist! We never went back. read more

This place is okay. Theyre very efficient but I really dislike the attitudes of the doctor and nurse practitioner. Nurse Practitioner, Angelyn isnt necessarily unkind, but comes to conclusions too fast and doesn't listen to your concerns as much as she should. She has been consldescending with me in the past. Well I have heard very good things about this Dr. However I have NOT had any good experiences there. My son has been with her for a few yrs and she once asked "so has he been seen here before?" (Open his chart and look) Pretty much every time I go I feel so rushed out of there like she always had better things to do. Recently I took my son and and before I could finish telling her all of the stuff going on she had wrote a prescription and tried walking out. My daughter hurt her arm yesterday, and I was dreading going to an urgent care. I called Dr. Hurwitz office this morning just to see if there were any appts available, and there was! The wait was a little long, but I was in and out of the appointment, itself, in minutes. Dr. Hurwitz and the staff seem to be very busy so I didn't mind the wait. I think Dr Hurwitz is fine if your child doesn't have anything going on. She's very quick in and out, doesn't care to talk or listen much. She wasn't my style doctor for my kids. We left after a few months and she completely missed the diagnosis on my daughter. I'd say the missed diagnosis could happen to any Doctor but if she spent more time with the patients that probably wouldn't happen. I'm just thankful we switched to an office better suited for us. Again, she's fine if you have a child who only needs a 30 sec exam. They do get you in the same day but so does every other pedi in the area. read more

Sorry to say Dr. Hurwitz office is going downhill after changing to Rady's and the Children's Primary Care billing. My 11 and 9 yr olds have never seen another pediatrician. This is about to change even though we love her. They now charge $250 each child for a wellness visit, not even a sick kid visit. $135 for a flu shot $80 of it just to administer the shot. My daughter received another vaccine and it cost $340 to administer that took 1 minute and the vaccine cost $473. Another vaccine cost me $282 and $82 to administer for her. After the 30 min visit was over, 2 wellness checks for my kids, 4 vaccines, I got a bill for over $2000 being charged. Dr. Hurwitz has let Children's Primary charge whatever amount they want through their billing. I would call ahead and check the pricing of anything you may need prior to making an appointment. This last visit has been a disaster financially. read more

This is the second doctor I've seen that came highly recommended by so many people that ended up being a total disappointment. First was my OB and now Hurwitz. We've been bringing my daughter here for the last 6 months (she's 6 months old). The first visit with Hurwitz was fine, she was super nice and thorough. Second visit, I said I didn't have a preference on who I saw, so we had been getting the nurse practitioner. She's outgoing but she kind of makes you feel dumb for asking questions... I'm a first time mom, I'm sure I have questions that seem dumb to her but don't talk to me like I'm an idiot. After a few more visits with her I decided I would start requesting Hurwitz instead of no preference. Horrible. I would have rather seen the rude NP. She walks into the room and I greet with her a friendly "Hiiii" to which she completely ignored. She just sat the chart down on the exam table and told me to put my baby down. I was like wow ok. Then as she's examining, I mention that she might have eczema bc she breaks out in rashes sometimes but that I wasn't sure and she hadn't broken out recently. Hurwitz literally said nothing in response and she moved on to the next agenda and was out the door so fast. I don't know why so many people recommend her. It's a shame too because the lady who gives my baby her shots is so friendly and I'll miss her. She's the only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 lol I liked her. Too bad the doctors can't have the same bedside manner as her. We won't be returning. If you want a pediatrician that actually listens to you, don't waste your time here. But if you want a doctor who is in and out without really caring who you are, this is it. read more

We Moved to phoenix and desperately trying to find a pediatrician as amazing as Dr Hurwitz. It's true that "you never know what you have until it's gone."She answers her phone at all times...and that means so much when you are a panicking mother at 3am. Anytime I have called with a concern I was always seen the same day. The office is usually very busy but her staff is incredibly efficient that they keep things running smoothly and quickly...which is great for everyone. We always wait an hour, she never remembers my children even if we've been in before the same week. Charges for everything. To get a signature on a form costs 25.00 and that's after the office visit costs. A letter from her for the school district charges 10.00. Poor military family with tricare? 25.00 per form. I can not say enough amazing things about Dr Hurwitz! All four of my kids see her and she is simply the BEST pediatrician I have ever seen. My littlest is prone to Pneumonia and without her he would have been in the hospital and I would have been a mess! She really cares about the kids and family and is ALWAYS there when you need her (even weekends and holidays if you are truly in need)! I really enjoy the friendliness of the staff and Dr. Hurwitz is very kind with great bedside manner. However, the wait times are ridiculous. I understand certain times are busier than others, but I don't believe a patient should be waiting longer than 15 minutes TOPS for a scheduled appointment. I had to reschedule my son's wellness appointment today because I had been waiting for 35 minutes and needed to pick up my daughter from school. So I just switched both my children to this Dr. After years of my own appointments, obgyn appointments and kids appointments I make a point to schedule appointment first thing in the morning or right after the office lunch break. That being said we were promptly attended to without much wait. One thing that seemed to greatly set Dr Hurwitz apart from any doctor I've ever taken my kids to is that she fully interacted with them. She assisted my older son onto to exam table and picked up my baby and carried him to the exam table as well. She was very positive and encouraged us as parents. The nurse that did the vaccines was awesome - she was quick and even quicker at applying some cool super hero band aids. I do see that a fellow review was unhappy with costs of the copayment and forms. I didn't seem to have any issues - we had a form to be filled out and there was no additional unless they forgot. **This RATING for the NP in the office. I have triplet boys and I took them to get tested to rule out for H Pylori. I had this illness last year and my husband is currently getting treatment for H Pylori. I INSISTED that ALL three get tested for H Pylori, but the NP only wanted to just test one out of three because he has the worst diarrhea. I don't understand why we can't just test all three at once since all I want is to get them ruled out for H Pylori. NP told me if this one is positive, then we will test the others. NP doesn't realize that adds more work for me to have to bring my kids to the doctors again! I am very disappointed that we could not get what we went in there for. read more

Dr Hurwitz makes me wish I was a Doctor. Not only is she personable and friendly but she runs her business very well. Dr hurwitz took one look at my son and admitted him to children's hospital Where he stayed for 6 days and was diagnosed with EOE. I now take all three of my children to Dr Hurwitz. My son has been going to Dr Hurwitz since he was born. He is now 3 1/2. You can ALWAYS get an appointment and the nurses are very good. We don't go to the doctor very often, but we do tend to see the PA to the occasional illness. Dr Hurwitz is VERY busy and may not take the time for small talk but she's good. I've had to call her in the middle of the night and she answers. I've even called on a Sunday and her PA answered and helped me out! So if you're looking for a warm and fuzzy doctor go elsewhere. If you want to be seen and not have to wait in the waiting room for hours then this is your place! read more

AWESOME EXPERIENCE! Very easy to schedule and appointment. I called Monday and my daughter was seen on Thursday. This doctor actually appreciates the military and their families. She was very thorough with my daughter and addressed all my concerns as a first time parent. The MA was great and gentle administrating vaccines that my daughter cried very little after. Very pleasant experience. Oh, and Dr. H did inform me they'll still see you even if you're 5 minutes late or 3 hours late and someone will always answer the phone even if it's after hours! read more
