Great product, great service, reliable delivery, and amazingly kind people. What more can I say? I ordered a dozen custom-size screens online from Hurst Glass & Screen. I live in Half Moon Bay, CA, and we'd just purchased a funky house with odd-sized windows. I'd never ordered window screens before, but Hurst was highly rated, and they had an easy-to-use online ordering system. All I had to do was get the screen measurements right. Easier said than done. A well-packed and well-cushioned box of screens of various sizes arrived on time on my doorstep, all in tact, and all sized exactly as I had ordered. The quality of the metal, the strength of the screens, and the placement of the ram clips and taps were all perfect. Except ... I had incorrectly measured my bathroom windows, and the screens were too small. 10 out of 12 isn't bad for a rookie, but I still had two bathroom windows I couldn't open without letting bugs in. So I emailed Hurst Glass & Screen, explained my mistake, and asked if they would offer me a discount on a replacement screen. They did one better. Here's what they wrote back to me: "We all make mistakes. If you provide the new measurements, we can send you two new screens at no cost. We don't need the other screens back." Amazing. My husband tried to reinstall it in the window frame, but it wasn't fitting correctly. So needless to say it came out. I called and asked if they would fix the screen back into the window. They wanted me to purchase a new one. I bought these a little over a year ago. So not in my budget to replace. So be very cautious about hiring them to do your window screens. read more

I was a return customer to have 7 windows replaced. They came out to measure yesterday and the technician was great. I asked him to send me a breakdown of the estimate and I received only the total cost around $3,200 dollars. I called asking them to please send me a breakdown and the manger was so rude and mean. I reminded him I was a returning customer. Apparently he did not care. He then breathed a big sigh and asked me if I was having a bad day. Really??? He asked me why I was so angry. I said I asked the technician and now I'm asking you to please send me a breakdown of the cost. I advise everyone NOT to use them. I've never been treated so badly. We asked them to come out and give bid on new screens for our screened porch. A man came out and measured and said we will call you with bid. After 2 weeks we called and all gentleman said was our owner is not interested in doing the job. That is ok if they don't want my business but wish they at least had the courtesy to call or text. Horrible company to do business with. Called and scheduled first available time for a tech to come take a look at our glass door. Husband explained in detail what was wrong and what we needed fixed. We had to wait two weeks. Okay, not a problem. Some guy from this business comes and takes a look at our issue and says "I don't have time for this. Can't do this. I'll call you later if I have time to stop by again." And leaves.. Um, what? I waited two weeks for you to come to my house and tell me you are too busy? We explained exactly what we needed done when we scheduled the appointment. So, I call them asking to speak to a manager, left voicemails, etc. and I never received a call back. A few weeks ago when we had the first bout of really nice weather this fall, I decided it was time to turn off the air, open the windows and air the place out. That's when I remembered I had 5 windows with no screens/no frames and 2 windows with holes in the screens so big no telling what kind of Texas varmint might poke its head through. So I perused online and in the good ol' yellow pages and called Hurst Screen and Glass to help me. To make a long story short, we made an appointment for them to come out and measure. On the appointed day/time the guy called to say he was on his way and showed up on time. That was a Thursday. The following Monday morning he called to say that the screens were ready. I was at home anyway and he was in his truck making some other deliveries and said he could be there in 1/2 an hour. Half and hour later, there he was. The new frames/screens fit the windows and the old frames now have hole-less screens. And the cost was, in my opinion, very reasonable. I'll definitely keep them in mind whenever I feel like replacing the glass in my windows or doing a new shower enclosure. read more

These guys can do a good job, but there's a big BUT. I've talked to them on the phone multiple times, and every time the guy on the phone sounds anesthetized. So chill as to give the sense he doesn't care. I've honestly never dealt with a service company whose phone manners and mannerisms seem so uninterested in the customer and their needs. Not good at returning emails or phone calls, even just to say they received your call or e-mail it don't have a quote yet. The owner should do some serious retraining with his guys on politeness, responsiveness, and other basic good customer service behaviors. When a customer is laying money out for an expensive product, they deserve better treatment. read more

Bronze shower door installed for $1000. Noticed that the rubber/plastic piece that is between the glass and frame was cut too short so it didn't go from end to end of the glass. I called for them to return to fix. Very unprofessional gentleman answering the phone was almost no help.. I had to insist that they come back and see my complaint. A long haired tatted up guy comes to look at it and was obviously not happy to be there. Now about 3 weeks later the lower metal piece on the door falls off. It had been attached with double sided foam tape!! Seriously... this can't be the way this is supposed to be attached to an area that gets wet. Once again called for them to come back out. Supposed to come same day..of course..no show.. Finally came 2 days later. Supposedly did it right this time. Overall not a professional company. Terrible customer service. read more

Very disappointed in this place. I called for 30 minutes yesterday morning and got only a busy signal. So I decided to just go in. Although the open sign was lit there was a sign on the door that said "be back at 12:30." No big deal, I have no issue with that. I returned at 12:45 only to find the door locked. I saw a man on crutches walking around inside, so I figured he'd see me and open the door. Well, he never acknowledged me so I knocked on the door. He looked at me and waved and proceeded to walk the other direction. I waited for about 15 minutes, watching the man continue about his business but never looking at me again. I even called and could hear the phone ringing, but he didn't answer. The answering machine did fine on, but I couldn't understand the message. I finally gave up, loaded my stuff up in my car and drove the 2 blocks to Binswanger Glass where I was promptly greeted by a very friendly man. Worst service ever. I got a piece of glass for a top of a side table. When asked if this was a thick enough glass that would not ship one place in glasses or any other items on top of it they informed me that it was. I arrived picking up the glass that was completely wrapped in a saran wrap.type of material. It was wrapped to the point where I couldn't see the edges. My firstI mistake by trusting this business to give me a product that was free of blemishes or chips to glass, since it was wrapped. I called the owner first thing on Monday to discuss once it was unwrapped it was chipped. He said what do you want me to do about it.... great customer service. He was unwilling to discuss anything in regards to fixing the problem. I asked that he replaced the chipped glass with a new piece of glass and he refused. Especially since the one piece of glass cost me $50. What's really great about this company on top of everything else is they say that all sales are final no returns or exchanges and not responsible for any items. He states that he's been in business for over 30 years but I find that hard to believe that he's had very much return customers secondary to his great customer service. I would not recommend this business to anyone in the mid cities area that is looking for a glass company that will help you with you house.
