This review is long overdue. i bought my solar screens in 2001 after the purchase of our new home. Our first electric bill was 800.00 so we knew we had to do something. We went with the 80 % tinted screen and immediately noticed a difference in the temperature of the house and our lower electric bills. But here is the impressive part after 25 years I decided to remove all the screens clean and wash them and the windows. The white metal frames of the screens were still in great shape (better than the metal on the windows) and cleaned up well and the screen material is still very pliable. Another plus is while my neighbors have had to replace their windows due to the seals breaking down from the heat we have had very little issues with our window glass. read more

I had previously used them and had a great experience. However, this time I had to deal with their General Manager, Paul. I was doing this install at my AirBnB. I asked if he could give me at least a 30 minute heads up because I have guests and do not want them to show up unannounced. He refused, immediately got hostile and aggressive, insulting me, constantly talking over me and said if I do not agree to let them show up at a time of their choosing, without notice, he would cancel the order. So I had to cancel. I do not understand why he was so unprofessional, for such a reasonable request. I would not recommend them based on this interaction. read more

I called Lone Star and they had an estimate within a few days and two days later they had installed a brand new one for an extremely reasonable cost. Happy with the screens but the warranty is a lie! When my neighbors dog came into my yard and destroyed the backdoor screen, I called to have it replaced as the warranty states, "This warranty covers the following: vandalism and accidental damage by persons or animals." I was told it was not covered under the warranty unless my dog was the one who damaged the screen or unless I had a police report. This is ridiculous. The sales agent stated basically anything that happened to the screen was covered under warranty but it turns out it's only covered if done by my family or pets. read more

I left for a while, when I came back, my husband asked "guess how much it's gonna cost". I guessed 3,000. Way wrong, 350.00. Yep that's right, and we got the darkest color. Their employees have replaced my screens (4-6 at a time) within 20 minutes and been gone. For all my windows I've paid less than $400. I call on a Thursday and by Monday the crew is here to install. The customer service is equally good. When I did have a mix up on my paperwork someone quickly fixed it. They came and did my screens when I wasn't home and when I returned I had new screens and a much cooler home! I recommend them to anyone who asks and plan to use them in the future. The whole transaction went great. The guy that measured had someone cancel on him so he called and asked if he could come early. Arrived and although we only have two sizes of Windows on our house, he measured every single window (13 total). Told me it would be about a week and asked for $0 down. We have had bad weather but they called me each day to let me know when they planned to be out but said we didn't need to be home. The absolute worst! And to boot, their staff is seriously unhinged. I ordered solar screens for my condo at the recommendation of a neighbor on 7/11. Almost 3 weeks later, I still have no screens. But that's NOT the issue. Someone called me 2 weeks after ordering and told me they were coming the following day for final measurements however, I never saw them show up to measure. I called back a few days later to confirm if they'd been out and the office girl told me someone had in fact, been out. I questioned if they'd measured the right unit because I hadn't seen anyone all day and she said 'yes'. Beyond that, I didn't think much of it. Then a few days beyond that, Jim called me on a Wednesday to tell me my screens would be installed the following day. Except that no one showed up all day. So at the end of the day of the supposed install, I called and left a message to find out when they were coming back. I didn't hear back from them. Again. So I called the following day, after once again waiting all day, only to find out via voicemail that apparently, they installed my screens BUT, on another unit! When I called back and confirmed this, Jim became unbelievably rude and belligerent towards me when it was THEIR error entirely! He blamed me (I don't know how, my work order reflects my correct information) and then he bemoaned that they 'don't like to do this complex and that (we) keep calling them and they hate this complex and it's confusing and they need a ladder and it's dangerous and it's hot'. I'm not sure how any of that was my fault. I bore the brunt of him being triggered by his realizing his own mistake. I certainly didn't beg them to do the job, I got their name from a neighbor and expected them to do the job I'd contracted them to do. It was about 3 weeks post order at this point and I wasn't upset about having to wait (when I was quoted 8-11 days). They said they were coming, I waited, they didn't show up. I was inquiring like any reasonable customer would as to why, and asked when they'd be back. If they 'don't like to do this complex', they didn't have to agree to the work! I'd have called another company, no big deal. I only used them because a neighbor passed me their info. If they 'don't like ladders or heat', perhaps they should reconsider operating a solar screen business in TEXAS. They could just have returned my call the first time and I could have helped better direct them to the correct unit (they are all clearly marked) but instead they chose to evade me. They have this weird protocol where they want to be like Santa Claus and come and install secretly when no one is home. They don't confirm unit numbers by knocking on the door and then they make expensive errors and it's the client's fault?! I've never been treated so rudely in my life by some severely unhinged individuals. They both went off the rails, accusing me of being belligerent, Paul went so far as to project his off-the-rails behavior onto me calling me 'crazy'. What reason would I even have to be nasty? It was a COD order. They didn't have my money. They apparently could not handle the costly mistake THEY made. Jim hung up on me! I didn't build my complex, nor cause their error, nor did I demand they do this job! This was all so basic. I waited for them to show up and when they didn't, I called to find out when they were coming back. It was a super simple fix, just call me back with an update. It's not like I was demanding anything, I was just waiting for something they kept saying they were coming to do that they never showed up to actually do. Instead, they made claims they couldn't back, dodged me, then blamed me for their mistake! Then accused me of calling incessantly and of being rude to their office staff. I called TWICE, in 3 weeks. One time I spoke to an office girl about fabric color. The two other times I left a message. I never got to talk to anyone. Seems they can't handle the business they have and then they can't handle when they make a costly mistake. This was absolutely their oversight. They could have said 'no' from the very beginning when I gave them my address. It's not like I was going to cry about it. I'd have called someone else. I would strongly caution anyone against using this basement-run operation. They struggle with the most basic business acumen, and apparently suffer from some serious mental disorders. The entire time these two guys were screaming at me, and for what?! THEY made the mistake! I was still willing to pay them for my work order!! Just come and do my place like you agreed. Instead they said they're 'not doing my unit'. I guess I'm supposed to be upset by that? The screen guys are 'punishing' me. It's all absolutely laughable. read more

People need to hear the whole story on this I had an estimate on 7/14, and all went well The install was supposed to take place on 7/28. I asked for a late appointment, and we agreed upon 5:00PM. At noon, the installers called and said that they are on the way. Since I was at work, I told them that it will have to stay in the evening. At 5:00PM, no one showed up. I called at 6:00, and they said that they will be there at 6:30. At 7 I called again, and they said that they were in route. They showed at 9:00PM and finished by 9:30 Since I loved the screens, I made another appointment for 8/2 to do the rest of my house. On 8/2, no one showed up. I called and they explained the mix-up and we agreed upon 8/5 for the estimate. The sales guy showed up on time, and I agreed on the quote for more screens Today (8/7) the owner called and chewed me out for leaving the bad (but factual) first post on Yelp. Beware of Quality and Service. They get 2 Stars instead of 1 only because of the salesrep / installer - decent guy. QUALITY - Make sure you have something in writing that explains their quality standards, e.g. reveal gap size, gap consistancy, screws vs. wingnuts, squareness of frame, etc... They arrived today and installed the screens - I was really bummed about the gap size and variation between the window frame and screen frame. Looked crappy. The installer explained they allow themselves 1/8" for reveal but the variation of the gap size screamed "this is crap". Some gaps were 3/8" and others were nil. The frames tended to be correct at the cross-members but varied in width between the cross-members. I was also surprised that they had to screw in some screens (because of the radius-top) after we discussed how the install was NOT going to be screwed-in. SERVICE: The initial explanation given to me was ALL of my windows were out of square. He offered to show me with a tape measure. The installer agreed with me that they had a quality issue with the first three screens we measured; the widths varied top to bottom. He said he would take those back and refabricate them. I asked him to please measure the remaining screens before me to save me some time. Ten minutes later he came to me and said "Sorry, the owner said you have to take them like they are, pay the full price or we can take them all back but we are not refabricating any screens". I was really surprised since this company has probably called me 10 times asking for my business. I told the installer to take them down - He appologized and reinstalled my original screens. Took the morning off 15 minutes after my appointment time was set up nobody here I called was told they should be there shortly they called 15 minutes later after that now 30minutes after my set appointment time to tell me that they made a mistake and my estimate was never in the system they are getting two stars for me because They did call and offer to come out next day and admitted their mistake. There is a crack in one of the windows after they install the screens, and they said they are not liable for that. My wife called them to let them know in order to fix the damage, so they came to take pics just to say they are not responsible for that since the crack is too far (about 3 inches) from one of the screw that hold the screen. I'd been interested in getting solar screens for a while. Did some research into it as well as asked some neighbors who had them. They all said I should get them. They also recommended Lone Star Solar Screens. So I set the initial appt for a Thursday. The tech called before he was to arrive and then arrived right on time. He was here maybe 30 min? Took all the measurements of the windows and talked to me about them for maybe 10 min. I was very happy with the price quoted. Today (Monday), I'm surprised by the installation techs arrival. I didn't receive any call or notification, but when someone shows up to do work you requested...if they can do it, you let em. So I did. WOW! The look of the screens on the house is awesome! Some extra daytime privacy also comes with it. Professionals, FAST, quality work, both on the install and the screens. They explained how to remove them if I need to. I'm hoping they do their job this summer...would love to lower the cooling bill! read more

I told them I was getting my windows cleaned at 7am day of screen install and so they didn't want to schedule me for the 10:30am appt nextday. They insisted On coming a different day and that didn't need to be home when they installed screens. The day of install they called to cancel my appt and said their technician was sick with blood pressure issues so they would have to come during the week instead of that Saturday morning. I will take my business elsewhere as these people are a joke. So unprofessional and a bit sketchy. Btw: they had initially quoted me over 700 for basic bug screens after a couple months of not scheduling they came down to $500 for 36 total screens and frames. Good price but way sketchy. read more

We ordered solar screens from Lone Star Solar and had no problems with the delivery or installation of them. On the day of installation, our home had already started to heat a bit from the summer day. After the screens were installed, you could tell that the screens were doing their jobs by dropping the indoor temperature about 8 degrees within 10 minutes.
