Danielle and Hector looked at my roof that needs repair and assessed it. They made a really good impression as they were very willing to discuss the work that needed to be done and explain it. I was encouraged by that and looking forward to getting the job done because Danielle told me that they weren't very busy at this time. And that's where it all ended. After 2 weeks of waiting for a bid I got was nothing. I called and Danielle told that she sent the information "to Dad" (Doug) and she'd remind him. Another couple of weeks and nothing. Called again, three times, but kept getting the answering service; left message... And now not even a return phone call. if you don't want to do my job then you should just say so. I wanted to wait one year before reviewing Hunters Roofing, so I could give a real world review instead of the excited, "just installed" typical review. Our roof was replaced in November 2020. So it has been just over a year. Because our old roof was Cal-Shake, it weighed tons and Hunter's crew had to work very hard to remove it. They did a perfect job, and also cleaned up very well afterwards. The installation crew was amazingly efficient and fast! All the sub layers and shingles were installed in less than 2 days. And again, cleanup was great. The only unusual looking thing I have been able to find, is that one of the new roof vents was not centered over the hole from the old vent. In the past year we have had extreme high winds, heavy rain storms, and broiling summer heat. The roof has not flinched from any of it, and still looks perfect. My wife and I are really please with our new roof. Working with Doug was a breeze and he was very prompt in answering our questions and concerns. I used Hunters Roofing probably 15 years ago and they did an outstanding job at a fair price. I needed a small repair and called them. They sent Danielle who was smart, precise and extremely prompt with a quote. Their quote was fair and reasonable and the one difference between their quote and the other roofers we consulted was that they only quoted us for the actual work that had to be done! The smartest decision I made was to hire Hunters Roofing. After having multiple estimates Hunters Roofing came in with a price that I could live with. They showed up on time and immediately went to work, making sure that the work area were always neat and clean. It took 3 days to replace our roof as they said it would and I couldn't be happier. After a few days I called Doug and told him that there were a couple of areas that I was concerned about. Five years ago I would have given this company 5 stars for the complete re-roofing of my house. Unfortunately the company doesn't seem able to follow up on problems to full resolution. Since 2004, I have hired the company 3 times. In 2004 they re-roofed my flat roof portion of my house for $2500. In 2005 I hired them to re-roof the entire peaked roof of my house for $8625.00 In March of 2010 , during a storm, the roof leaked and water leaked through my dining room ceiling ruining the plaster and drywall. I called them assuming they would fix the leak as part of the warranty. The owner of the company claimed that the problem came from a roof vent I had installed by a different contractor in 2007, therefore the repair would not be covered by his warranty. I paid them $695 to "repair" the area around the roof vent. I hired a drywall contractor to repair my ceiling at a cost of $300. It doesn't rain that much in California, as the song goes, but when it rains, it pours. In December of 2010 during our huge storms in Los Angeles, the dining room ceiling again started dripping water in the exact same place as it had in March of 2010. I called Hunter's Roofing and they did promptly send two guys out. They spent some time in the attic looking around and could not find any leak. They patched a miniscule 1 inch crack in the flat roof with Henry's and left. They called later to say the repair was not covered by warranty and it would be $150 for the visit. I refused to pay until I knew the problem was solved. Within days the storm returned and the roof was leaking again. I had put tarps over a large portion of the roof and it was still leaking. I called them back. The roofers returned and this time they decided to tear apart a section of the roof over the leak, removing shingles and cutting open the plywood. They could not find any water. So they put it all back together. The owner then called me and basically gave me a polite F*** you, saying that they could not solve the problem. I asked if there was any leak detection system available. He said no. I would think that being a repeat customer and having spent $11,820 with their company over the past 6 years, I would get some attention. Apparently not. I searched online for a leak detection system. The simple answer was, get up on the roof with a hose and spray till it leaks. After the storms ended I went up on the roof which had been completely covered with leaves from the wind and used my leaf blower to blow all the leaves off. Then I took a garden hose and sprayed water on various sections of the roof. My wife was stationed in the dining room to report leaks. Within 15 minutes I discovered the source of the leak. It was a section of flashing under my air conditioner vent that was raised up about 1.5 inches, not providing protection. With the force of the storm the water built up and leaked into the roof. Now why a roofer doesn't use a solution like a water hose to find a leak is beyond me. Basic science shows that water seeks its own level. The roofer could have saved lots of time and money by doing that. After I discovered the leak, I called and left a message for the roofer on his answering service on Sunday January 16. I also emailed them and told them I had discovered the source of the leak and I asked them to please call me. I called again on Monday January 17 after not receiving a call back from them, (the office was open on MLK Day). I spoke with the person who answered the phone at the office and again left a message for the owner and asked if I should send pictures of the source/location of the leak. I sent a second email with the pictures that morning. It has been 6 days and I have not had a response by email or phone. Wouldn't it be polite or good business practice to at least call or email and say they got my message, were busy and would get back to me eventually? In conclusion, I have spent $11,820 with this company over 6 years and I am a repeat customer. I spent $300 fixing my ceiling last year for a misdiagnosed repair. I would think in this economy an owner of a company would want to maintain good relations with a past customer since many contractors rely on referrals for business. Today I hired another contractor to repair the roof. I will have to pay to repair my dining room ceiling again. I cannot recommend Hunter's Roofing due to the inattention and non-communication they have to offer. read more

We just completed a complete tile re-roofing by Hunters Roofing and were 100% satisfied from first encounter to the finish of the work. We reached out to Hunters because of the positive Yelp reviews and within a couple of days Luke came and did a thorough review of the roof and provided a detailed, written estimate within 48 hours. In addition to the estimate, while he was at our home he provided a clear explanation of what was needed and how the work would be done. Because we were in the midst of a significant rainy season, the work itself did not begin for more than a month, but we were contacted repeatedly to keep us updated on plans and to offer to come and tarp the roof if we were experiencing interior leaks. When the work actually began, either Luke or Doug (owner of the company) came by daily to check-in and ensure that everything was being done both to plan and to our liking. We were continually kept informed of timing (the whole job took five days) and what to expect each day. The on-site crew were completely professional and respectful. If there were any questions or concerns, they would reach out to us to make sure that what was being done was acceptable. Of particular note is the extra effort they took around the chimney and all roof vents to provide additional safeguards against water seepage. Also, given that we have solar panels on the roof, they ensured that everything was done to protect the integrity of the system while integrating the new roof with the panels. In addition to doing outstanding work, the crews were very neat -- cleaning the areas around the property each day so that our lives weren't impacted. When the job was done, they took down the protective wrap they had placed in the garage to protect items (the garage being the only section of our home that has no attic space so debris tended to fall there) and thoroughly cleared the garage from debris. While the proof of the quality of the work won't be known until we have additional heavy rains (which might not be until next season), we have no doubt that we will be 100% pleased. Additionally, the new roof looks significantly better than it did since they ensured that the tiles were not only properly applied, but also aesthetically laid so that the roof has a uniform appearance. We would not hesitate to use Hunters Roofing for any other roofing needs (although it is unlikely we'll need to do so for another 25 years or so), and will heartily recommend them to friends and family with roofing needs.
