We are fans of the Pear and blueberry vodka, I also have had several of the bourbons, the standard and a reserve that they bottled in 2024. The bourbons are good, but the Rye is one of the best I have had. Absolutely love the Rye. As I mentioned we make it a point to stop by when in the area and will continue to. This locally owned and operated distillery rivals the products made by the large producers. We recently stopped by and sampled their moonshines and whiskeys and were very pleased with the quality of their product. Hazard's make four flavors of 40 proof moonshine: peach, root beer, apple pie, and blackberry. All these had a nice balance between flavor, consistency, and alcohol levels. Hazard's moonshines are not syrupy sweet like some and go down very easy. We enjoyed all the flavors, with the peach and blackberry being our top two favorites. The whiskeys produced are sea-salt caramel, standard corn whiskey, and Blowtorch. The sea-salt caramel was a hit and we left with a bottle of it also. The standard corn whiskey appears to be popular, but not really an alcohol I drink. The Blowtorch brought on a sense of nostalgia, because it reminds me of the fireballs and red hot candy that I enjoyed as a kid. The tasting room is nicely decorated and staffed with members of the Hazard Family, who were very friendly, and contributed to the enjoyable time we had during our visit. Overall, we were very pleased with the quality and flavor of the moonshines and whiskeys and plan to make this our go to stop. Take the short drive from the highway and you will not be disappointed!

I really liked the décor and overall vibe, both inside and outside. It's a great setting and well worth seeking out. A friend and I spent an afternoon checking out a few local distilleries and breweries, and Big Spring Spirits really stood out. We did a spirits flight, and while everything was well done, the straight rye whiskey was easily my favorite. It was surprisingly busy for a weekday afternoon, but the staff never missed a beat. Everyone was moving, clearly enjoying what they do, and they were happy to answer questions and talk through the spirits without making it feel rushed. I ended up buying a bottle of the rye to bring back home to California. I also just found out they've opened a tasting room in State College, which means it's officially on my list for the next time I'm back in PA.

The not so good: The $45 Delmonico ordered Rare - The plate came out at first I thought maybe they gave me a strip based on the cut. I asked the server she said it does look like a strip and took it back to the kitchen and then returned with the same plate and who am I assume was the shift manager, after discussion with him, It turns out that this cut of beef was not a ribeye/Delmonico it was actually a Denver cut of beef, which, while in its own sense has some good flavoring it also has more a larger fat cap similar to a strip. Serving a Denver cut and calling it a Delmonico (ribeye ) is not the same thing and are vastly different in price from a butcher and typically at a restaurant. The cook was perfect. It was rare ( as ordered) and the small edible beef portions of the steak were flavorful, just not the buttery melt-in-your-mouth texture one would expect from a ribeye. I would not recommend the delmonico simply based on the actual cut and price. Instead go with the strip as that cut of beef is from a different part of the cow and great flavor. Good drinks too!
