Best sub shop... Anytime I come down to Miami it's usually my first or last stop. this was my old stomping grounds in high school. Anyone from Kendall knows about Hungry bear sub shop across from Miami Dade college, the small sub shop with its fast energy serving customers all day in this tight space that just works, behind the small counter area you have like 6 employees making these yummiest sub! This sub shop has been in business for 49 years. Fun fact this was my first job at the age of 15.. haha good times My go to is always honey mustard chicken. When you are paying $20 for a sub, you want consistency. Soooo disappointed, this place is a treat for us and to not get what you asked for is very upsetting. I don't know of owners changed or what but the past two experiences were very disappointing. We don't plan to go there again. read more

My son, grandson were visiting from up north and one of the first places they wanted was a Hungry Bear sub. My grandson had heard so much about it from his father who grew near the original near Miami Dade Campus. To ones surprise the sub menu hasn't changed mjch in 20 years in the same location. Same great loaded variety sub menu, quick no nonsense service, delicious subs. I only half of mine so my grandson ate my other half for breakfast lol. Came for lunch and ordered the cheesesteak with onions and an Italian chicken sub. The cheesesteak barely had any cheese. It had a lot of meat, which was great, but it didn't have much onions or cheese. My husband got an Italian sub instead of the Italian chicken sub that he wanted. This is one of the old haunts that I'm so glad has stood the test of time! The speed and efficiency make the hectic energy of the little crowd inside more manageable. Very much a you're in and you're out type of place. The subs are stacked! You can build what you want, I had the steak bomb, my old go to. I also got the Honey Mustard Chicken for my lady. Asked for a cheese steak with bacon. Theres no cheese. from the moment i see them making it i noticed so i asked hey you guys put cheese right and they said yes its cause its in the middle melting lol. im watching them and theres nothing melting. If you pay 30 dollars for a sub you need the put the appropiate amount not a couple little crumbs. im paying for some slices cause there aint any here visually or flavor wise . literally taste like plain steak and bacon....the whole point of a cheese steak is taste it. not science rocket. Been coming to Hungry Bear for over 20 years, eating the same thing every time. Last visit was the first time that I was disappointed, and I hope it was a fluke. The cheesesteak was dry, tough, and lacked flavor. I did not complain like I should have, especially at these prices... a cheesesteak has gotten expensive. Hungry Bear was different than any other sub I have had and I would visit again while in the area. I got a hot ham and turkey sub. The meat was chopped and placed in the sub roll on top of the toppings. The chopped meat was delicious. I shared a large with my husband but there was not a big difference in the large and half size. The half sub was a smaller sub roll, not a large roll cut in half. There was seating inside that was comfortable and fountain drinks are available. My daughter ordered something called the monster that was not on the menu. It tasted like pizza on a sub roll. It was very good. I included a picture. Amazing sub-shop!! The Honey mustard chicken on white bread is by far my favorite sub! I have tried it as it comes (just without onions and without mushrooms// and added pickles, lettuce, and chopped Bacon), wow!!! Delicious! I have also tried it with Eggs (they make it omelet style) and it is awesome tasting as well. There fountain drinks dispense those tiny ice pebbles. So awesome. My sister took me here so I can try their subs. When you enter, the place is small and tight. Go up to the counter and order your subs then step to the right to pay. Then wait to be called. We ordered the Philly cheese steak. Upon opening the wrap paper the sauce was all over. It was a mess. The meat was delicious but kind of dry in my opinion. I've been going there for about 15 years and have never had a bad sub from there. Many selections to chose from. Subs are always filled with ingredients, they don't short change you on that. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is because of the prices. They have increased a lot. An idea....at least give a certain % discount for college students w/ I.D.
