Hunan Solon was a quick stop with four adults and a 3 year old. The service was great as was the food. Quickly served appetizers helped keep our grandson happy and since the restaurant wasn't too crowded, we were there at 5ish, he was able to move around a little without disturbing other guests. The staff was surprised at his food choices which were pretty varied, including some spice, and made an effort with him. Ordered online in Nov 2024. Wonton soup and veggie eggrolls were average. Scallion pancakes are so good! They are greasy and kinda chewy but delicious. Beef Ho Fun was good. Penang curry with chicken, ordered mild spice, it wasn't bad but seemed really bland for curry. Maybe if I got it spicy it would have been better but overall not bad. We came for lunch on the solar eclipse day as it was close to our hotel. We were the only couple. There were some customers for take out. It was quiet there but we had a very good experience. The food was well prepared and they were all delicious, although they were not all necessarily tastes the same as those in the east coast. They were different but good! This was a hard one to write. Several positives, but also a few not so great things. First the positive. We had a very large group for an impromptu meeting. 20+ of us looking for something to eat. A quick call and Hunan said they could accommodate us. A short drive, and we all were there. They sat us in a couple of different tables. No issue there. From there, this is where things started getting a little mixed. Obviously, they weren't prepared to handle this large of a group. Not enough help. Slow taking orders, delivering items, etc. They also have some supply chain issues as some items were not available. Things on the menu like certain beers and sake were limited or not available. Appetizers came out in waves. Same with the dishes. It was apparent that they didn't have enough cooks to prepare for the amount we ordered. And yes, we way over ordered. Some dishes were really good. My son loved the roast duck. I thought it was quite good. My wife liked the eggplant. Most dishes were good. There were a few complaints about the others. The restaurant is oversized for their current needs. They have a pretty large section closed off. It was apparent that they don't heat that side. Those sitting near that opening felt a pretty cold breeze on them. At one of the tables, the group tried to order sake. No sake, so they ordered plum wine. But the waitress didn't mention to them about ordering by the bottle vs. the glass. So that increased the price a bit. Lesson learned by those at that table. Even trying to finalize the bill was a bit challenging. It took some time to get the final bill and understand how they itemized it. Overall, I'd say it was okay. Very happy that they could accommodate 20+ in a short span. But it wasn't a great experience. They shouldn't try to sit such a large group if they aren't able to handle it. read more

Have been on multiple occasions and tried a variety of dishes, including egg rolls, crab rangoon, Singapore mei fun, coconut shrimp, Kung pao shrimp, General Tso's chicken, and crispy duck. Ordered a carry out on my way home from their website, and it was ready when I arrived--twenty minutes. When I drove up the sign lights were off, and it looked closed. I told the lady. I was thinking that people staying in the nearby hotels may look for a dinner place, and would never see the restaurant in the dark. I hope the outside lights get fixed soon. The tangerine roughy (fish) I chose included a sweet sauce, and was delicious. I made two meals of it. The crab Rangoon was fried wonton filled with a cream cheese, crab and onion mixture. I've had really good meals here when ordering from the Chinese menu and the Ho Fun with shrimp is great. My friend, however, ordered the chicken pad Thai but it tasted spoiled. The waitress was visibly annoyed when we told her that and we sent it back without reordering. That item was not even removed from the bill! When we asked for at least half off, they only took $2 off the bill. We did not leave a tip and the waitress had the nerve to point that out to us. Won't go back anytime soon. read more

First off the only server was more concerned about take out orders than in house customers. The glass of wine I ordered was WAY past its prime. I ordered Pad Thai Spicy. Last 2 times I've been here to pick up lunch I felt like I was bothering them. I then asked for An extra soy sauce and you would have thought I asked for the combination to their safe. My family goes here a lot for takeout just because it's one of the only Chinese places nearby. They have a Chinese menu with some of the better items and usually, they make good dishes. Our most recent trip was definitely a letdown though. We ordered the crispy duck and they called us later to tell us it was out (we ordered off hours) so we went with the crispy chicken which was a mistake. The chicken was not fresh--seemed like they made it for someone else and nobody picked up so they passed it onto us. The shrimp chips were soggy, the meat was tasteless, dry and not even warm. We ordered this fried pork cutlet with savory sauce but every piece was stuck together and also not fresh. The sauce was horrendous--artificial red and basically just plain ketchup! This restaurant is not good at all. In a meal with an appetizer and two entrees, nothing was good. The egg rolls were very oily, as in oil dripping from them. The duck sauce seemed watered down. Don't believe the positive reviews. They are left by the owner l! The avocado roll was cold on the inside and not ripe! The duck was overcooked & dry! The Pad Thai was TERRIBLE‼ It was super sweet and soupy with the wrong type of noodles. Not Pad Thai! The server was super rude! When I complained about the Pad Thai, she argued with me and blamed it on me saying, "other people like it"!?!? And, "I should have said something earlier!"!?! WHAT? On my quest to find really great Chinese, I stopped in Hunan after the recommendation of several Yelpers. I wasn't disappointed. Nestled in a strip mall, Hunan has a nice, colorful vibe inside. That vibe is perfect because you can legit also eat your colors at Hunan. All of their entrees are loaded with fresh veggies, which I loveeeee. I can tell my new go-to here will be the green curry with chicken, which is super hearty and flavorful. However, ask for it mild- because otherwise, it will be HOT. Learned that the hard way tonight, but still enjoyed it. My guest and I also split an order of the green beans, which are covered in a delicious homemade garlic butter sauce. They are addicting beyond reason. We also tried the shrimp in garlic sauce, which also proved to be a generous portion with big ol' shrimps and a nice, subtle flavor. Oh, and the service here is fast. Like really fast. Even if it's crowded, you won't have a long wait. The atmosphere is welcoming and upscale, making it perfect for any type of meal. Having spent three decades living and travelling in areas of heavy Chinese populations in both Asia and along the West Coast, I have never been a fan of the Chinese Restaurants here in Cleveland (in fact, typically avoid them). Hunan in Solon is clearly the dramatic exception! The food at Hunan is authentic - not just "close". Full of marvelous flavor and character, I particularly enjoy their barbecue spare ribs (appetizer, $7.00), Cantonese-style roast duck ($15.00), and choy sum with oyster sauce (requested, off the menu). Of course their menu offers the complete "standard fare" known at area Chinese restaurants but at a far better quality. For the more adventurous, some of Hunan's more flairful entrées include Singaporean Chow Ho Fun ($10.00), Tangerine Beef ($12.00), Lamb Scallion ($12.00), and Beef Yau Tsoi Portabella Mushroom ($13.00). The interesting thing is Hunan incorporates other Asian palates into their menu, including Korean (like the spare ribs appetizer I mentioned) and Thai, such as fresh spring wraps and a complete line-up of Thai curries available in 9 meat/seafood/vegetarian selections. I would estimate their offerings weigh in between 75% Chinese and 25% other Asian. Typically this is a dangerous premise for a restaurant to attempt - but Hunan's execution of this diversity is flawless and spot on! The cost ranges from average to a shade under pricey for the less mainstream, more exotic items in regard to the price-to-portion ratio. However, once you sample the cuisine you will quickly discover you are clearly getting what you pay for. The restaurant is located on the industrial side of Solon, easily accessible south of 422, across the complex of small hotels. Use caution: it's relatively small and insignificant-looking in the small strip mall it's situated in and can easily be overlooked. Some may criticize that Hunan is still Americanized or Anglo-Chinese. True. It is important to keep in mind this is the best Chinese Restaurant in the area but it must still cater to the NEO palate. Personally, it is not 100% what I'm used to in Singapore, Honolulu, or San Francisco but for Hunan to mimic that level of authenticity and expect to stay in business in NEO would be unwise. On the positive side, Hunan Solon has successfully bridged that crossover well enough that Chinese dignitaries we host have made repeated requests to dine here. Shrimp with garlic sauce. Very good taste with big juicy shrimp. But the shrimp still had the tails on! Why would I want the tails on when the shrimp are covered in hot garlic sauce with no way to get them off without burning my fingers? And mushrooms, what's with all the mushrooms? Not a fan of spores! It was very enjoyable once I got the spores and tails segregated on their own side of the plate :) Egg drop soup was different. We came in from out of town and were looking for a Chinese restaurant and I read some reviews but I should have read more. The food was bland and this was the most expensive Chinese I have paid for. There were 3 of us and we only had water and the bill was over $70. I would not have minded the price if the food was good. Mine tasted a little burnt. They charge extra to change the white rice to another rice and the egg rolls are also extra. All you get is a meal but no soup or egg roll. I should have known when the place was empty at dinner time, we should have gone elsewhere but we decided to try it. I will not eat here again and I will not tell anyone to eat here unless I don't like that person. read more

My family and friends and I have been coming here for years. A long time ago it was the closest restaurant of it's kind to where we lived, but even now, as we're all separated by distance and other places have opened up, we keep coming back. The food is amazing and the people who work there are incredibly kind. Just ordered there today and the people working there are some of the nicest people you'll meet. Was this location ever associated with the Chagrin Falls location? Because they were creepy similar on menu! Even the font... Unfortunately I did not take photos, but I ended up here for a birthday lunch and I just don't typically interrupt social occasions like that for photos! I am having issues finding on the menu what we ate, because my mom ordered off of the specially requested menu of more authentic cuisine (I believe). It was just one of those visits where it was so close, but no cigar. Not the best I've ever had, but also far from the worst. Their portion sizes were large and I appreciate that when eating family style. So, I do think it is worth a visit if you are not looking for the best of the best. The spicy pock garlic is not spicy, also we did not see garlic and pepper too. The vinegar potato is too spicy. Maybe the chef is too busy to take care of quality. Very disappointed. We had been here a couple of years ago and food and service was good. Not anymore. For the appetizer, we ordered the avocado egg rolls and the avacados were completely raw. The crab Rangoon was okay. We ordered Phad Thai and Chicken with Vegetables. We asked to make it a little spicy. The chicken was completely bland and the Phad Thai was extremely sweet and was very soupy. Never had it made like that before. Terrible! Servers seemed like you were annoying them when asking for things. When we told them about the food being too sweet, they did not believe us and said others liked it. We should have told then to check other recent reviews. Other reviews had the same complaints. They did say that we should tell them before we ate the food that it was not good. They could have easily seen that we left 3/4 of the food on the plates. Also, other good restaurants ask "how is your food?". Excellent dish! I enjoyed my General Tso's chicken very much! It was a great portion. Crunchy breading, but not too hard to eat. The chicken stayed inside the breading, so this was likely never frozen. My egg roll was fat and delicious. Service was a little slow, but it's lunch time in SOlon.... everything is. Discalimer: we were heading out to dinner one night and our usual choice for Chinese food in Solon was jam packed. Remembered this place was a mile or so away, so we decided to try it. When we arrived, the parking lot was practically empty- we actually thought they were closed. File away for future reference... Review: good service, OK food, clean but meh atmosphere... too quiet- IDK. We tried a couple of appetizers- the pot stickers were very good. We also had some sort of avocado roll which was unremarkable. We ordered three chicken entree dishes and they were basically just OK- Pad Thai, Kung Bo & Bourbon. The two spicy dishes were specifically ordered "hot" but as is the case with many restaurants, their idea of "hot" is really what I would consider "medium". This is the standard by which I compare all Americanized Chinese food. The food is essentially identical to Hunan Chagrin Falls. I'm not sure the details of the story, but they were related in one way or another - perhaps a shared chef, chef that switched, owners that parted ways. Something. Because the food is identical... and delicious. It's the best fried rice I've had. It's the best general Tso's I've had. It's the best egg roll I've had. The fried rice is one of those where the rice is white. For comparison, PF Chang's is a chain with similar fried rice. The rice is never overcooked and mushy. I've been here many many times over the years with my family. The general Tso's is lightly breaded and fried crispy. The sauce is great, but is made fresh and served quickly such that the breading does not get soggy in the sauce. The egg roll is very crispy and hot. The sauce that accompanies it in a dish is delicious. Definitely a knife and fork egg roll because of how hot it is, but SO good. read more

The first menu is the American-Chinese menu for the general public. The second menu is a secret menu (shhh, don't tell anyone). The password for this to say: I want the "Traditional Chinese" menu, for those of us who want to eat fish and shrimp with the heads on or food with eyes staring back at you. I have only been there once, but will be back to make sure the review is correct. But for the first mean there, Green Thai Curry, it was fantastic. Normally I eat this with Jasmin rice, but they serve it with rice noodles. The flavor of both was fantastic. The folks around around me all had different meals (off of the lunch menu) and looking at their reaction sand listening to their comments, they were all very happy. The interior is not campy, and it is clean and crisp. The service was really good, although I will say it is very to the point. They do not make small talk and mess around. They do come back to make sure drinks are full and the food is to your liking. On of the things I appreciated about this place was that it was not a buffet. They might role something out later, but did not look like there was really any room for it. They have lunch specials that are very reasonable and I am sure something for everyone. read more
