    Vegetable Saute (10.11.24)
    Carroll N.

10.11.24 Their most popular dish with the most reviews on yelp is their Peking duck so of course I had to give it a try. My friend and I shared half a duck. Aesthetically, it wasn't the prettiest. It would have been more presentable by simply separating the pieces instead of laying them on top of each other. Although it wasn't the best duck I've had it was pretty good. To balance out the unhealthiness of having duck, we also shared the sautéed veggies. I liked that the veggies were soft, but I thought it was flavorless. My friend said it wasn't served hot enough. Regarding service, I was disappointed that our server didn't come to check on us after she brought our food. At one point, I needed another napkin so went and got one from another table. I assume that they bring the check to the tables, but we went up to our server to check out. When I passed by another table I saw that they had fortune cookies which confirmed to me that our server was supposed to come to us. Based on overall average food and below average service, I will not be returning.

After our first visit here yesterday, we are already thinking about when we will be returning. Parking is easy. Restaurant is spacious. Service was fine. We were here during lunch. Lunch menu has a dozen or so lunch specials with egg roll and soup. Lunch entrees came with soup as well. Prices were all around $11. Thinking that it's only $11 with soup, we were nicely surprised with the portion size. Very generous. We ordered 3 appetizers: Fried wantons: not the prettiest but sure were tasty. We places a couple additional orders to go. BBQ spare ribs: very good flavor but a little fatty. I did not mind. Spicy wantons: it definitely was not spicy but the garlicky sauce was delicious. The wanton wraps were on a thicker side but still very tasty. We also ordered 2 lunch entrees: Kung pao chicken: a little on the sweet side but flavorful. Szechuan Shrimp: good decent amount of shrimp. Good flavor. Overall good experience. We will be back again. UPDATE: We did return for a second meal a couple days later. chicken broccoli was good. The five flavor shrimp was not my favorite. Too much breading. Fried wantons (3 orders- lol) were good as ever.

    Vegetable Lo Mein Low Fat

Service was great, especially for a place that my cousin found while we were in the area. My aunt ordered the fried pork wontons for my appetizer. Unfortunately, they were fried one too many times. Or fried hard, extra hard. I was torn between the Mongolian hot pot and the veggie noodles. My cousin went with the combination lo mein and destroyed it. I polished off mine as well and left with a big belly blessed with a fortune cookie. I can't tell you what my fortune is because that's bad luck I honestly might have to go here every Sunday.

    Vegetable Spring Rolls.

The spring rolls tasted quite like an oriental doughnut and had more dough than vegetables. Unfortunately, the rolls were left out of the initial order, so I had to drive back to the restaurant to get the spring rolls I originally paid for. Additionally, the Chicken Broccoli, Mongolian Pork, and Beef Broccoli dishes arrived lukewarm. But the meals can be reheated. There's nothing I can do about these vegetable-absent vegetable spring rolls.

    Whole Peking Duck

This place definitely gets busy on weekends for dinner. Service was overall good, a tad slow but very nice. Whole pecking duck: big enough portion size to share with 2 other people. The skin was crispy and duck was cut into great sizes for wrapping. Mapo tofu: good portion size. It looks spicy but surprisingly isn't. This dish was okay overall. The spices they used tasted like they just mixed tofu with a packaged preserved sauce.

"Szechuan Bean Curd" was inedible. See pic.) Mushy blended up bean curd swimming im sauce.

Tried this place on recommendation from a friend so had high hopes but they were sadly dashed. :-( "Szechuan Bean Curd" was inedible. See pic.) Mushy blended up bean curd swimming in sauce with unpleasing flavor and texture. The spring roll, egg roll, and wonton soup were all bland, but decent otherwise. Hot Crispy Beef was good. Overall would not return and am still searching for some yummy Chinese food in Montgomery county.

I always order the green beans and veggie dumplings, however they both come with little brown pieces that look/feel a lot like chicken or beef. Does anyone know what this is?

Hi Whitney! I've never ordered the dish, but I would guess maybe minced garlic or chopped onion that was sautéed in soy sauce? Or maybe ground tofu?

Was feeling hangry because I had planned on stopping at Hard Times for a bowl of chili -and found out they were closed on Mondays. So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Protein is protein, baby!). Just means I need to come back, and I will, as quickly as I can.

Our waitress was lovely and very attentive throughout the meal, and the service was impressively fast. The food came out almost immediately. Everything we tried was delicious. The chili oil handmade noodles and the signature pork soup dumplings were definite standouts and absolutely worth ordering. The firecracker salmon spring rolls were a little different than the typical spring rolls we're used to seeing, thinner and more delicate, but still incredibly flavorful and delicious. Overall, a great experience with fast service, excellent food, and a welcoming atmosphere.

The dumplings were delicious on both occasions. The basil chicken was flavorful, but the lomein was very bland. They did not include any sauce in the to go bag (you have to request it).
