This is a hidden gem for Peking duck in Maryland. Who knew you'd find this dish in Olney of all places?? For those who have never had it, you have to try it at least once in your life. Here, at Hunan Delight, they serve Peking Duck, a roast duck which is carved by hand, and separated into the delicious crispy skin and a pile of meat. Here's how you eat it! 1. Take one of the thin, warm pancakes and spread some Hoisin sauce on it. 2. Place a few pieces of the crispy skin and meat on top. 3. Garnish with green onions. 4. Roll it up like a burrito and enjoy! The key here is to find the perfect balance of crispy skin, meat, sauce, and onions. You have to be careful not to put too much otherwise the wrap will tear. I promise you, once you get the ratio right, you may never eat duck any other way again! If you do order the duck, just be aware that there may be a bit of a wait since they make it to order. But trust me, it's worth the wait -- no body wants to eat cold, not crispy duck skin. Also, you can ask to take the bones home -- you can make duck soup or duck porridge! Hey, a second meal for free! Others have commented on the "free tea", but that's pretty standard at most Chinese restaurants in this area. Same with "free rice". As a Chinese person, I would subtract a star if they charged for these items! One thing they do offer, that most other restaurants do not, is the fried wonton skin, typically offered as a topping for your egg drop soup or hot and sour soup. My kids love this stuff! I ordered a whole Peking duck to go. I was told 25 minutes to be ready. I got there around 27 minutes and paid for it. the little guy said their working on it. a few more minutes. 52 minutes later I asked the little guy how much longer and he said 5 more minutes. about 13 more minutes it finally came out. $45 worth of a whole freaking DUCK! when I open the bag it looks liked a half Duck already trimmed to its minimum meats and two tiny legs on the side. they covered the entire meats with its skins to make it look like it's a lot of Duck! thes restaurant and it's entire Chinese fraudulent business needs to be NOTICED! I had not Eaten here for quite while. I was disappointed with several things. First and foremost was how dirty it was. I had to send back my tea cup twice to get a clean one that was not sticky! It's hard to come back from that. The food was just ordinary (King Pao Chicken) and the egg rolls seemed like they had been sitting in a warmer for a long time. They were chewy and not crispy at all. They didn't taste homemade at all. The service was mediocre at best. We'll find another place to eat Chinese in the future. read more

This was the last place we dined before Covid started, and one of the first places we visited when masks were no longer required in Maryland. If I reviewed it in March 2020 it would be a solid 5 stars. Even in January 2021 it would have been great. But now? Not so good. To get into specifics, this review is for our second meal post-mask mandate and is for takeout. Typical I give restaurants two attempts, assuming a chef can have a bad night. We ordered soup, which clearly no one had tasted because it needed salt. Lots of salt. It tasted like dishwater otherwise. I had Lover's Delight, a mix of vegetables, beef and shrimp. The beef always used to be tender and covered in rich sauce; the sauce was thin, and the beef clearly reheated or overcooked. The shrimp were alright, but they're farm-raised I believe. My wife's shrimp fried rice was tasteless, needing copious amounts of salt to bring it to life, and even then it needed plenty of sauce to be edible. Even the fortune cookies were stale. We'll be on the lookout for a new place in the area to get Chinese food, and mourn what was once a great restaurant. Definitely a sad day. read more

Despite the recent negative reviews decided to give the new ownership a try but should have listened to the reviews. Been coming here for years no problem but now the food QUALITY HAS GONE DOWN and PRICES UP. Beef dish had like few slivers of beef and the peking duck...have ducks become smaller because of covid? They also charge you for extra wraps, which is fine, but they provided more wraps in the original order in the past so you never needed to order extra before. Generally noticing portions have gone way down and they are in the practice of nickle and dime-ing you for everything. If you're going to drop the ball like that on the food, you would think they might try to make it up with good service, but nope. Went to pick up a to-go order and the staff is RUDE and incompetent (didn't even provide any napkins or utensils, how we supposed to eat our overpriced, mediocre food?). I don't want to be too negative so I will mention that they do have a sleek-looking new website you can order from, BUT just call in the place your order because there is a 50-something cent "online order fee" (refer to previous mention of "nickle and dime-ing"). read more

I've been coming to this restaurant for well over 30 years. George the original owner was the best. He was rude and short at times especially on the phone but he was all business and ran a great establishment. He reminded me of soup nazi on Seinfeld show. When calling in an order you better be prepared or you would hear a dial tone. The food is now average the hot and sour soup is now thin and tasteless egg roles fried cabbage no flavor. I've done 2 take out from this restaurant and always a selection of different dishes. The first time I ordered the flavors good. So decided to give it another try. The flavors are good however they build up volume with excess veggies me carrots. My order today was shredded pork (Yu-Shiang Pork) in garlic sauce which has half moon carrots. But this place used shredded carrots, ok. However it's all shredded carrots where's the pork? I paid )13 for the dinner portion and all I got was carrots. Does the chef not know portioning for the recipe? Eating cooked shredded carrots not my ideal dinner!!! And the general tso chicken so doused with sauce that the chicken are soaked soggy. This place used to be the best chinese food in every direction for hundreds of miles--but what happened? well, as an olney native for over 3 decades I can tell you. it's as simple as a change of ownership. The original owner was an angry little dude with gordon ramsay vibes. always working hard, moving fast, uncompromising on anything. his recipes were out of this world and his standards were through the roof. people would come here for prom and anniversaries, birthdays and bar mitzvahs. but then he retired, and it was the right move for him. but the person that took over the restaurant is he's the opposite, a tall, friendly, slow moving chap with no standards at all. running an empty restaurant with terrible recipes. literally this place went from the best chinese food in the state, to the worst chinese food i've ever tasted in my life. flavorless doesn't begin to describe it--after eating the food here you will be able to find the nuance and subtle notes of tap water in a way that would make an iron chef blush. terrible recipes, terrible service--never answering the phone, letting people literally cut in front of you in the line while you're standing there waiting for 10 minutes after making a takeout call an hour ago. the place is also crazy dirty inside now, which is probably a consequence of having the staff literally sit around at the tables--when you walk in it looks like a kitchen nightmares vibe, filthy, weird owner, tables packed with a sullen staff, awful food, long waits. i've probably tried this place 5 times since the ownership change, thinking "it can't be that bad" while i explore the menu: egg rolled are dry and under seasoned, kung pao chicken has no flavor, the crispy beef was the furthest thing from crispy, so soggy and literally needed to be thrown away--they even manage to make white rice unpalatable. We like the food here. Fast, hot, tasty. Pickup is easy. We prefer the orange chicken and the hunan shrimp. The chicken is very good and meaty, not too much batter or weird dark and/or hard pieces. I would recommend ordering extra rice to go with the entrees. read more

Good cheap and juicy peking duck carved at your table! For under $30 it's definitely a steal. It comes with spring onions, duck sauce, and pancakes. The seafood combination (under chef's specials) is also tasty (and garlic-y) with plenty of scallops, fish, shrimp, and vegetables. Opens at 11:30 most days so come early to grab a table! Have ordered from the new owner previously. ordered again from there the other night. it was inedible. the egg rolls were gummy and did not taste fresh. New to Olney and a bit of a foodie. We've been making our way around town and have eaten some pretty delicious meals but have been putting off Hunan Delight due to some reviews but finally decided to give it a chance. I ordered Wonton soup, Egg rolls, and Mu Shu Pork. Started with the Wonton soup, the wontons were made of REALLY thick noodles with a little tiny bit of meat, which was pretty tasteless. Impossible to fit in your mouth, which leaves you trying to slice these giant wads of noodles with your spoon to find that it's basically all noodles. I passed. Then moved to the egg rolls, which I thought would be a good rebound. I've had better egg rolls at a gas station. It tasted like they were made last week. They were the stalest egg rolls I've ever eaten. I passed. The Mu Shu Pork was really the only thing I found to be eatable. The plum sauce was actually pretty good! The actual meal was pretty mediocre. Mu Shu Pork with very little pork and very little egg. Basically just a bowl of cabbage with pork strips. Even the side of white rice was mushy... I was not a fan. I do imagine however that if I was just PLASTERED, I'd probably be able to fill my stomach at Hunan Delight. The portions were pretty hefty. read more

With a huge selection of Chinese places in upper county, this is a stand out! My personal favorite is their Singapore noodles. My biggest complaint (and the reason for four stars instead of five) is that orders take FOREVER for takeout. Food is quite average/ nothing special, but the quality still trumps other Chinese restaurants in Olney if you are willing to pay a higher price. Ordered two meals for lunch. Although ownership changed a month ago, the inside of the restaurant hasn't changed in decades (since they built the extension.) 1. Low calorie moo goo gai pan. I was glad the restaurant included soup (because it wasn't specified on menu) but was confused they included fried rice for low cal when we specified white. I guess the low calorie was because the dish came with absolutely no sauce. Would have preferred a side. 2. Also had a kung pao chicken meal including fried rice, hot and sour soup, and egg roll. I loved the soup and appreciate the freshly fried wonton topping (much better than the prepackaged bags included at some restaurants now.) I ended up throwing half of my meal away. read more

The parking is terrible. Prepare to play parking wars just to get something to eat. If your rich, get an Uber or Lyft each way to save the hassle. It wasn't crowded. Nice family atmosphere. The General Tso had carrots and green peppers in it a long with some other weird stuff I can't explain. I wasn't gonna eat it but I did. It looked like it would have been something Andrew Zimmern would have eaten without a doubt. The "Fried rice" wasn't fried. It was just regular brown rice. The entree was just ok. The egg roll was soooo good. Right texture, soft with a slight crunch. I could have ordered 3 of them and it would have made me happy. The tempura was just some hammer beaten regular ole fried shrimp. The Singapore dish was just ok. It was hard to find the shrimp. They were small shrimp on the bottom like brine shrimp. Did I order cooked sea monkeys? It wasn't good. I am not a stranger to chinese food and I find this place on the expensive side. That good was $39.00. If I ordered the same exact thing at Penang Star, it would have been $28.00. That's a big difference. Did they charge me for parking? Some kind of hidden convenience fee? The owner was cool. My Korean grandma has been coming here for the past 13 years and she loves it. The staff is friendly and accommodating. It was pretty packed on a Sunday evening but they offered to convert a 4 top to a 6 top for our party of 6. We ordered Peking duck, seafood sizzling rice soup, szechaun string beans, basil chicken, sesame chicken, and a spicy shrimp dish (don't remember the actual name) - Peking Duck: Crispy skin with just a little bit of fat still attached to it, came with 12 pancakes (30 cents extra for each additional pancake), best Peking duck I have had in Maryland. - Seafood Sizzling Rice Soup: Thick soup that is really delicious. There were a lot of mushrooms though.. - Basil Chicken: Chicken has a good flavor, was moist and not overcooked! - Szechaun String Beans: Basic, a little underseasoned - Sesame Chicken: Breading was thick and honestly it got harder as it cooled. The sauce was good but it was a bit heavy on the sauce. - Spicy Shrimp: Coated in a very sweet sauce.. Apparently good though because my diabetic aunt ate most of it.. Overall, this is a great restaurant. The menu is very large so there are bound to be a few misses, but also a lot of great dishes. read more

Human Delight has been our favorite Chinese restaurant for over 30 years and it pains me to write this review. The food has been very inconsistent since the new owners took over but the past few times it has been consistently bad. The two things you could still always count on were the meat dumplings and the hot and sour soup. The last time I ordered carry out, the soup was okay but the dumplings were terrible - they were nothing like they used to be. They were very small and they reminded me of the kind you can buy frozen at Costco - which are fine when you buy a huge bag for under $10 but not so great when you get 6 for $7-8. My mom made me come here and "dine in" for the first time in ages. I've had carryout a few times over the years but that's way different. Just after walking in I give them the Time Machine of Olney Award and five stars for absolutely not changing a single thing since the last time I "dined in" (at least twenty years ago!) Their menu is a bit more expansive than I recall which is a good thing. The Spicy Tangy Cucumber appetizer was probably my favorite dish out of everything we ordered. It was really spicy (which I enjoyed) however I also ordered the Yu-Shiang Broccoli and Mushrooms with the same level spice indication on the menu but it wasn't even remotely spicy. A major pet peeve of mine as spicy should be consistent across the board. Spice consistency is off here! Aside from the cucumber dish everything else was just kind of blaaaah. This place is a hit or miss for service. I was waiting to pick up my food on a Wednesday night and I heard two separate customers come up to the staff saying they haven't been attended to in 20 minutes. I don't recommend this place for a sit down meal. I DO however recommend this place for takeout. You've got to order 30+ minutes ahead of the time you want to pick up your food because they get super busy. It is not very nice inside so don't expect anything new. The redeeming quality is the food. It is very good. I love the sesame chicken every time it is that delicious. There is no delivery. You can do delivery on DoorDash. Before the pandemic this used to be a good Chinese restaurant. Ever since the original owners left, it went straight downhill. We tried it right after the new owners took over, and it was not as good, but acceptable. Recently, we got carry out and it was absolutely awful. I don't know how anyone can give this place even a fair or OK rating. Every dish is either soggy with too much sauce or overcooked. I especially like the lunch combination of egg roll, hot & sour soup, & .#8- Cheng tu beef. Several years ago, the restaurant began advertising in my church's Sunday bulletin, offering a 10% discount. I have used these coupons many times over the years, for lunch, dinner, & carry out. Today, the food & service were both exceptional, & there was no exception, except for one thing. However, at lunch today, the waitress refused to honor the coupon, & stated that the discount only applies at dinner. When I showed her the coupon, which does not limit the discount to dinner orders, she had no explanation other than to repeat the phrase, " dinner only ". In its entirety, the coupon reads, "Hunan Delight 18118 Village Mart Dr. Low-fat Menu Available CARRY OUT 301-774-7944 10% OFF Church Member with this coupon." That is the entire coupon. There is nothing in the coupon indicating limitation of application only to dinner items, & despite the multiple times this was pointed out to her, she responded with the rote response, "dinner only". Never go to this place. Eat pizza or sandwich. Do not try this restaurant. Food is bad, uncooked and smelled. When this place was owned or managed by old owner then food quality, quantity and service was excellent. Since its new management or owner on our recent visit to this restaurant we found the quality is very cheap, serving size is too small with higher price. We had to request our dish to be re-cooked and staff was every unfriendly. They will serve old food from the freezer. After being a patron here for 35 years, I am greatly disappointed with the new ownership. Whoever owned it the previous at least 10 or more years had fantastic service and had fine tuned the menu. Service and food were consistently good. The new owners apparently have misread the local clientele. The spring rolls are now heavy and clunky, the food banal, and the service slow and not as refined. The lunch plate has everything , including the spring rolls jammed on one plate. I came here on a Wednesday night with a large group of friends. They were very accommodating and we were seated immediately. We ordered multiple dishes and shared among ourselves family style. We ordered the Peking Duck, Walnut Shrimp, Chinese Broccoli, Sizzling Steak and Mushrooms & Beef Chow Fun. I am not a fan of duck, but the duck here is amazing. The duck skin is so crispy, not soggy and mushy like most other spots. The duck meat is well cooked, but not to the point that it tastes tough and gamey. The Walnut Shrimp is my absolute favorite dish here, so flavorful and the shrimp still manages to have a nice crisp to it despite being drenched in sauce. The Chinese Broccoli is deliciously soaked in fat and oil, but if you want one dish to pretend you are being semi healthy by eating veggies... this is your dish :P The Sizzling Steak and Mushrooms comes out on a hot stone plate, still sizzling... hence the name ;) I am not a big fan of Beef Chow Fun, but this is another dish they do well here. Rice noodles are usually super bland, but the flavors of the beef and veggies really soak into the rice noodles in this dish. Portions are plentiful, they do not skimp at all! I know that some of the pictures it may seem that the dish is only half full... it is because the food is so good here that people started digging in before I could take a picture -_- Staff are polite and friendly, they checked on us multiple times to insure that we had our fill of water and tea. I would definitely recommend this spot if you have not tried it! Do not be deterred by the outdated decor, Hunan Delight invests in its ingredients and dishes... Had lunch here today. I chose the beef & broccoli dish on the regular menu. Service was fast and food was good, hot, and did not have the chemical taste that some Chinese restaurant has. The waitress was fast and friendly and made sure I had refills on my tea and water. I'm currently doing low carb so I didn't sample the rice or spring rolls which are my typical go to at a chinese restaurant. Give this one a try when passing through Olney read more
