Quality/Quantity - When visiting the ferry building, we try to get ice cream from here or Gotts every time. I used to get wine, lol. I am trying to cut back, but if you are following, you know that I am failing on cutting back. Entertaining our guests today. They just happen to be locals, lol. Staycation? Today my guest and I got the secret breakfast while my wife got her usual coffee ice cream. All of which is good, so creamy. But I did not taste the bourbon or any alcohol. Ambiance - Small take away space. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 10pm. Merchandise available for sale. Gift packs, pints and some quarts to-go, etc. Service - Good, counter service. Price - Expensive, but that is the price for quality. $6.50 (+ tip) for each single scoop. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 2008 with your 8 locations.
My first time visiting the Ferry Building, and my local family member insisted that we had to try Humphry Slocombe. We actually stopped by earlier in the morning before 10 a.m., only to discover they weren't open yet. After spending the day exploring the islands, we returned with our fingers crossed that they'd still be serving and thankfully, they were. There was quite a lineup when we got back in the late afternoon, but it moved surprisingly quickly. I appreciated that they had a large board displaying all of the flavors, giving customers plenty of time to decide while waiting in line. I had my heart set on the Vietnamese Coffee flavor, and it did not disappoint. It had a strong coffee flavor without being overly bitter, paired with a smooth ice cream base that wasn't excessively rich or creamy. It struck a nice balance and was exactly what I was hoping for. I was also tempted to get a waffle cone, despite usually ordering my ice cream in a cup, because the aroma coming from them was impossible to ignore. Unfortunately, they had already sold out by the time I ordered, which was admittedly a little disappointing. Overall, the ice cream was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the visit added another memorable highlight to an already fantastic day exploring the area.
I tried Humphry Slocombe 10+ years ago at the original location, and the new age ice cream flavors just didn't do it for me. But I recently decided to give them amother change, at the Ferry Building location... and the rest is history! Chocolate and peanut butter is my favorite combination, so the Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple was right up my alley. I've had it a few times now and it always hits the spot.
I haven't visited this location in maybe ten years. I was surprised to see it still in the Ferry Building, but I am glad they didn't close until 10 PM. They were open on Memorial Day Monday! They allowed me to try some flavors. They said they only have two flavors of dairy-free per day. The Vietnamese coffee does have caffeine. You can buy the cornflake toppings in a jar that they sell next to the queue. You can also buy 2 pints, get 1 free from the fridge. One scoop is only one flavor. Parking here is on the street. It's free after 6 PM. Bathrooms are near ferry terminals. Credit card/Apple Pay accepted.
Yum! By the time we got here some of the flavors were sold out. Line moves a little slow but worth it for a sweet treat. I've been here a few times and have enjoyed it. Tried a few flavors but the caramel passion fruit was SO delicious. It was buttery and tart. My friend got a Fanta float which looked great too. It was cold outside so we opted to just stand and eat but the treats didn't last long anyways. Definitely a grab and go place but it gets the job done! There are tables elsewhere in the building or you can brave the bay breeze!
She's still that girl. I always love popping in for a scoop when I'm in town, and have never been disappointed by their year-round and seasonal flavors. This is the only location I've been to, but it is my favorite! With the beautiful Ferry Building, adorable little shop, and friendly staff, it make this an iconic SF experience for me.
A sweet treat located inside the Ferry Building Marketplace! They have rotating flavors but I still stuck with their best seller which is their Secret Breakfast. It's a bourbon ice cream (alcohol involved) with cornflakes mixed in. The cornflakes added such a nice crunchy texture with each bite I took. I also got the Matcha Cookies n Cream on top of the Secret Breakfast and it was not as delicious as Secret Breakfast. The matcha flavor was a little lacking but the cookies n cream mixed in was the cherry on top to making it taste delicious. The line went by really quickly and the girl that took my order was so patient with my niece when it came to sampling the flavors she wanted!
Humphry Slocombe in the Ferry Building draws a line that looks intimidating but moves faster than it seems. The shop itself is compact and standing-room-only, but the Ferry Building has nearby benches and waterfront seating. We tried the Chocolate Dipped Strawberry and the infamous Secret Breakfast. The strawberry flavor was bright and rich, with the chocolate providing a satisfying crunch. Secret Breakfast, with its bourbon-infused base and crispy cornflake crunch, was silky, flavorful, and delivered a mix of sweet and slightly boozy warmth. Portions were generous for single scoops. Service is brisk and friendly; staff are used to the constant flow and handle orders efficiently. Despite the long line, we never felt rushed, and the pacing let us savor each flavor before deciding on an extra scoop. For value, expect around $6-$8 per scoop, which aligns with other premium artisanal ice creams in SF. Tips: Go earlier in the day for slightly shorter lines, and take advantage of the outdoor benches or Ferry Building plaza seating to enjoy your ice cream without feeling cramped.
You can't walk the Embarcadero without eventually being lured into the Ferry Building for a scoop of Humphry Slocombe. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they stay open until 10 PM on weekends, the perfect timing for a late-night dessert fix while strolling by the pier. I'm a huge fan of their rotating weekly specials, and the Berry Kouign Amann immediately caught my eye. If you love the pastry, you'll appreciate this: somehow, the Kouign Amann pieces managed to stay flaky and buttery even while submerged in the ice cream. The berries added a lovely, bright freshness that balanced the richness. It is definitely a "decadent" scoop a bit on the sweeter side for me, so I couldn't quite finish the whole thing but the quality is undeniable. The service was great, you can get samples before picking a flavor.
Delicious ice cream with unique flavors in the ferry building that is open late! They also let you sample the flavors. The three scoop is the best deal. There's usually a line during the weekend, but service is very fast. There's no place to sit at the restaurant, but plenty of open space in ferry building. Really like the honey graham flavor.
I have been to ferry building and pruneyard many times but didn't get to try this icecream before! Finally got a double scoop cup from the ferry building location this past weekend! They were out of most of the popular flavors, but GOAT and Lavender Crumble flavors were still available. We got a double scoop (one of GOAT and one Lavender Crumble).. and both were mind blowing, grainy cheesy texture, pefect blend of cheese (goat cheese and olive oil in the GOAT one, and mascarpone cheese in the other one). This was sooo yum!! It was sunday late evening and most of the ferry building shops were closing, so lines were small and service was fast! Worth a try!! Will come back to try other flavors! I am sure they will have seasonal flavors too!
This is a great little spot in the ferry building. Many interesting flavors to choose from. I had the bourbon, cornflake and peanut butter fudge ice cream. The bourbon cornflake was great flavor. The corn flakes were a little interesting not necessarily soggy, but not crispy in the ice cream so kind of a weird texture. I would've just been happy just with the bourbon ice cream itself. The peanut butter fudge was amazing and the scoops are large so be prepared. The staff is very accommodating if you want to sample flavors prior to purchasing. Would definitely stop by again.
We walked by and saw the secret breakfast and we were like we gotta figure out the secret. The secret was that this was one of the greatest scoops of cream I've ever had. So delicious, right amount of creaminess and sweetness and that corn flake nostalgia that invokes those 7 AM milk and cereal before school vibes. Ratatouille adjacent. Worker was kinda mean though :(

Nestled in the Ferry Building, I got the flavors "Brown Butter Apple Pie" and "Vietnamese Coffee". Out of the two, the Vietnamese Coffee flavor was my favorite. The Brown Butter Apple Pie was super sweet perfection. I especially loved the crust bits The two flavors combined were a nice balance. Paid $9 for the double scoop and felt that is was a decent price. If I was closer, it would be worth the extra $3 for the pint. Overall, loved and would return when I'm in the area in need of a sweet treat! read more
"You may be an ambassador to England or France You may like to gamble, you might like to dance You may be the heavyweight champion of the world You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls But you're gonna have to serve somebody" (Bob Dylan) Ever hear of a 1970's British sitcom by the name of "Are You Being Served?" Me neither. But apparently the show's two lead characters were Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocomb, and since the show was a favorite of the ice cream chain's owners.... Well, you can figure out the rest. They operate eight California locations and a mail order business through their website. We visited their busy location inside the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and each had a single scoop of Tahitian Vanilla (@ $6.75) with Cornflake crunch topping (@ $1.25). We both agreed that the ice cream was excellent, and the topping was a different option we hadn't seen before. Yes, it was very crunchy. There was a modest line when we arrived, and a humongous line when we left, so Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocomb can sure be proud of their namesake's successful business. read more

Oh no, not cool! Sorry to hear about your customer service…
Came to this spot after having lunch nearby and I am so glad I did. My colleague said this is an amazing spot and the breakfast surprise is to die for. Which, it really is. Reminded me a bit of a cereal and milk, but with a twinge of something else I couldn't put my taste on. Definitely amazing and worth it. read more

Thank you Chris!
First time trying the famous Humphrey Slocombe, and it did not disappoint. I got the cereal, milk, ice cream, scoop, and while it was very sweet, maybe even too sweet, I finished the whole thing. I need to come back and try more flavors. We sat in the ferry building, since there was ample seating. Since we came in the evening, the line was long, but the workers worked fast. read more

I finally did it. I finally stood in the super long line to try the secret breakfast at Humphry (...and I may have also indulged in an Oreo s'mores sundae with their malted chocolate as well). The great news is, each item was 100% worth eating an entire week's worth of sugar in a sitting, and the time spent in line. We only live once right?! It's difficult to define what separates good from great ice cream. Both good and great are decadent, smooth, and bursting with flavor (imo, fresh textures too). For me, the difference is in the luxury of the product. That being said if you're looking for a sweet treat that will satisfy all of the above, plus capture luscious textures and flavors you'll crave for the next week, you have to save room for Humphrys! Fruit, milk, chocolate, and tang, lovers unite. Whatever you choose, it'll be divine. read more
I ordered a fudge sundae delight with a scoop of peanut butter fudge ripple. Loved the warm, small pieces of brownies included with this. The ice cream was not too heavy on the peanut butter taste with a slight hint of fudge. Convenient place to grab some ice cream. There was a line but I was in and out in under 5 minutes. Pretty fast service. read more

Thank you Gerard!
Located in SF ferry building, Humphry's is the perfect spot to get some ice cream after a meal or just because! Some of their original popular flavors are secret breakfast (has some booze and cornflakes for texture) and their super flavorful Vietnamese coffee. In the past I used to get their Harvey milk n honey graham with brown butter which had a nice graham cracker crumble. My 2 new fave flavors are matcha cookies and cream (ton of Oreos) and lavender crumble. I love the sweet salty flavors and textures I get with each bite. Also their waffle cones were being freshly made and couldn't resist pairing it with my double scoop. Happy and stuffed camper - good thing all we can do is walk around! read more
Always a long line, located at a very touristy place of Ferry Building at SF. They have some special menu which attracted me every time I visited the place. Pink Jesus - rasberry ice cream is quite refreshing, it's a bit of sourly and texture like sherbet. Tahitian vanilla is great too, a bit overly sweet. Earl grey tea & cake - not my favorite, lack of tea taste and too much of cake chunks. The thing I like the most is - they let you sample the ice cream and decide what you want. read more

Was here at 2:30 on a Saturday. Line was fast. We had Secret Breakfast Ice Cream and Malted Milk Chocolate Ice Cream with Cornflake Crunch Topping. Hands down Secret Breakfast is one of the best and most unique ice cream flavor I've tried in the States! Not too sweet or too strong. Everything is just right! read more

Highkey biased because i was tired and wanted to have a nice pairing for dinner (not rich enough for wine and steak but personally this is the best anyway). The Tahitian vanilla root beer combo was so tasty. I grew up loving root beer floats so this was a different take and it was so nice. I want to say that the vanilla was not as sweet as other ones and there was a slight citrus or herby taste that complimented the rootbeer so much. I had this while eating a16 pizza(i hope thats the right place) it was such a delicious combo and my friend and i were watching a drone show too. It was a really nice night. read more
I was there on a Saturday evening. There was still a line for ice cream. I had to wait for 15 minutes in line. I went for a 3 scoop - vasavada Brown butter jamun hetal, honey graham, secret breakfast. All were really good flavors. Probably the Vasavada ice cream was my favorite. It had good cardamom flavor. That ice cream was the Diwali special. Honey graham was probably my second favorite. read more
Got the malted milk chocolate ice cream! It was on the sweeter side, but you can get samples so I knew that before buying. I've also gotten the Vietnamese coffee and honey sesame cookie! I love an ice cream flavor with a slight crunch or little bits of something. Great option for ice cream in the Ferry Building, and they have lots of different unique flavors that change and rotate so it's always a fun surprise. The line can be long sometimes, but generally goes by fast. read more

This is still one of my favorite ice cream places because they always have new seasonal flavors and provide samples. Even though there are several locations around the Bay Area, I always go to this spot inside the Ferry Building. I tried the Earl Grey Tea and Cake and Key Lime Pie, and decided to order a sugar cone with a single scoop of Earl Grey Tea and Cake ice cream ($6.25). +Ice cream was creamy and not too sweet. +Earl grey was strong and there were lots of cake chunks: Definitely one of the best flavors I've had! +Cone was crunchy Side notes: 1.) They now have stamp cards: Buy 9 scoops get 1 free *Verdict: Even though there were 3 employees and the line wasn't too long, it took a while. It seemed like they were all doing their own thing and not communicating with each other, so orders got mixed up. read more
If you're in the Ferry Building and are looking for a sweet treat, check out Humphry Slocombe! We visited on a Friday afternoon around 3 pm. There was a small line but we moved through pretty quickly. Overall service was efficient. Salted Caramel Cocoa Nib (4.5/5) - Great flavor, nice and creamy with added texture and slight bitterness from the cocoa nibs Vietnamese Coffee (4/5) - Good flavor, but not super memorable Price was pretty standard - $6.25 for one scoop. The general setup is more like your standard order and take to-go ice cream shop with no seating but because of its location, there's plenty of other places to walk around and check out while enjoying your ice cream. Would be happy to come back and try some more of their other flavors! read more
