It was the sweeter of the two flavors ordered. The Espresso Toffee Crunch, on the other hand, has a deeper, slightly bitter edge, balanced by bits of toffee candy and espresso chips. It's still rich, still creamy, but less sweet than the praline. Both flavors are firmly on the creamy side of the dairy spectrum. Portion wise, the scoops were equal and fair. Not generous, not skimpy. Would I have liked a bit more for the price? Sure. But I also walked away satisfied which counts for something. After trying each other's flavors, one thing became clear is that these do not play well together. Individually, these are D-licous. Combined, these clash. It is not the kind of pairing I'd like in a sundae. I wouldn't refuse it, but I just wouldn't order it. As the HOW TO, walk-in, take a number. We went off hours on a chilly day when the line wasn't too bad and people still try to game the system. For the folks that buy straight from the case, the shop calls those folks straight to the counter. Which is fine, until they're offered a free sample. That's where the customer gets a bit confused.... After sampling, some try to order a scoop (not one I saw tried to order the sample), and that's when they are told to go back and take a number. Sunny Sunday afternoon, waited 30 mins to order, there were 14 #s ahead of me. Could have ordered online for pickup but I thought grabbing a number would be faster - I was wrong. Staff are super friendly and helpful once your number is called though! Have always enjoyed their ice creams but had gelato yesterday so wanted something different. Tried the halo halo dessert cup this time and whew it was a treat. It's gotta be at least 20 oz. and topped with ube ice cream. Glad I tried it - I love Taiwanese shaved ice - but this was too sweet for me, especially the jellies. I'd try it again if I could customize the toppings. The ice is pretty chunky too. My husband liked it a lot more though and could finish the whole thing himself if allowed. My favorite ice creams flavors here are hojicha grasshopper pie, Thai tea. Their coconuts, durian and lychee are also very good and true to their name - lychee is pretty sweet though. Don't think you can go wrong, plus they let you sample. On a Friday night, my ticket number was 35 and they had just called number 15. When they finally called my number the machine was at 58. This place has a constant traffic for a reason. I probably waited idk 40 minutes for my ice cream. I walked around and luckily came back on time because they are very quick with moving on to the next number if you aren't nearby! My local SF friends love this place and they came alot during the summer and talked a lot about how there was ticketing system but when you go get ice cream in November... no line!! AN SF CLASSIC!!!! Anyone visiting the city or even if you live in the city, this is a MUST! FOOD: Who doesn't love ice cream?! I've been going to Mitchell's ever since I was little and I've tried almost all of their flavors. My favorite flavors would definitely have to be Sticky Monkey, Strawberries and Cream and Cantaloupe (only sold during summer months). My partner and I also enjoy getting their sundaes! Staff is super accommodating too when it comes to how much toppings we want on our sundaes. SERVICE: Since this is one of the few places open pretty late, they almost always have a line towards the end of the night which can be slightly discouraging but I promise it goes by fast! You get a number at the entrance and staff will call your number when it is your turn. Try to stay close by as they do call the numbers pretty fast. As previously mentioned, staff is super accommodating and friendly! AMBIANCE: It's pretty small so I don't recommend waiting inside while you wait for your number to be called. There's a lot of foot traffic since they call customers fairly quickly. PARKING: They do have parking available in the back parking lot but it only consist of about 6-7 parking spots. The first time I was there, I probably sampled eight to 10 flavors. They will let you sample all of them if you wanted, at least that's what the employee told me one customer did who came in from out out of state. They are very friendly, patient, and accommodating. The space is small. You take a ticket number and the line line moves fairly quickly since they have a number of employees serving the ice cream, making the shakes, and everything else. Mitchell's Ice Cream was a must try on our trip to San Francisco. We had heard about the unique Filipino ice cream flavors so we knew this was a part of the trip plan. The ice cream flavors were unique and the store was packed when we went on a Friday night. We waited about 25 mins to be served around 8 PM on a Friday. They have a quick service counter if you just want to buy the half gallon containers and you have to pull a number to get hand scooped ice cream or halo halo. We got to try a lot of the different flavors and loved every scoop we got. Parking: they have a small parking lot in the back of the store but most of the available parking is neighborhood parking. Some people stayed in their cars and double parked on the street in front of the ice cream shop while their party went inside to get ice cream. We drove around for 10 mins to find some street parking but it was worth it! Service: to get hand scooped ice cream, you need to pull a ticket number and they call each ticket in sequential order to serve you at the ice cream counter. The server we got was very polite and patient when we asked to try different flavors. All of the servers had a smile on their face even though they were extremely busy. Ice cream: we tried a bunch of flavors but our favorites were the halo halo flavored ice cream, the mango ice and the uber ice cream. The buko deserved an honorable mention. I've eaten at a lot of ice cream shops around the US and I have never seen a halo halo flavored ice cream. This ice cream flavor tasted just like halo halo and had the toppings in the ice cream. This is easily the most unique flavor I've tried anywhere. The mango and uber ice cream were smooth and delicious. They tasted like the fruit and not like the artificial flavor you get from some fruit ice creams. We also got a half gallon of ice cream to go. The half gallon was $14.95 and two scoops of ice cream was $9.95. We got the single scoop for $7.25 but for the single scoop, you can get two flavors if you want. This ice cream is on the pricier side but I think it's well worth it! Overall, Mitchells is a must try for ice cream lovers. I was overwhelmed (in the best way) by how many flavors there were--I genuinely wanted to try every single one. For this visit, we started with a cup of Espresso Toffee Crunch, and let me tell you... coffee lovers, this one is a MUST--so good. We also tried Macapuno (Young Coconut), one of their tropical flavors, and it was incredibly refreshing and flavorful. And of course, we couldn't leave without grabbing Ube. We LOVE Ube in general that we ended up taking home a half-gallon. I'm used to Magnolia's Ube, but this one impressed me--the rich flavor and tiny ube chunks really stood out. Overall, every flavor we tried was a hit, and I already can't wait to come back and explore more the next time I'm in San Francisco.
