The best thing about this bar is the live bands. They play great 80's and 90's rock espanol! I wish they would clean up the decor and bathrooms. Also the drinks are not good and they only accept cash.

Cool crowd. Cool DJ. And Trans-X on stage! What else could you want except maybe it could be a little closer than Bellflower. Had a wonderful time and the drinks were cheap and good. And the music is soooo cool. 80s all the way! is the music. Worth the drive!

Great place to chill... and I'm from the 90s lol and I enjoyed it a lot with my boyfriend

Hully Gully misses the mark for me. For starters, the parking is super unclear and there is very little of it. I've heard they charge on some days, which would be okay, because at least someone can point you in the right direction. The night we came, the bouncer at the front just kept pointing in a random direction and seemed irritated when I wanted him to clarify. Next, the drinks are either watered down or done with a super heavy poor. No middle ground. You're better off just sticking with beer if you can, cause they can't screw up just popping a cap. Regardless, everything is outrageously overpriced. They serve food, but there is no way in hell I'd ever try it. For the music, they do Latin in the back and 80's in the front. The 80's was hit and miss and the DJ the night we went couldn't get through a complete song to save his life. I think his friends were there, because he was definitely playing to them and stopping whenever they wanted something new. Not cool. They did have a Prince impersonator that was pretty funny, but then he scrambled off before the end of the song and we never saw him again. We think he was part of the show? The dance floor can get super cramped cause it's a small space. With the cover, the expense drinks and the fear that your car will get towed because you parked in an unmarked lot... I can't ever see myself going back here in my lifetime.

The live music also made everything so special. The performers were absolutely incredible. It was a little bit crowded in there, which would be fine if people didn't keep crowding standing around where they shouldn't be. After that we were told we still had 5mins. I guess we'll leave early next time. It was just rude to see bartenders point at us and loudly say we weren't welcome ...

Inside, it's cute and definitely looks like an old dance hall from the 1900's. I'd say this was a medium sized venue. The stage wasn't terribly high off the ground. There's a big, beautiful, bar and a disco ball and it has a lot of charm since it's an older venue. Seeing a show here feels less stressful than seeing one in downtown or Hollywood. With doors opening about an hour before the concert, the GA line tends to be longer than expected, and most of the venue is standing-room-only unless you opt for "premium" price for seats. Even so, the "standing only" crowd is usually respectful, and despite the tight space, the atmosphere stays fun. But, for short folks like myself, can be a major disadvantage as crowds beginning to move toward the front and blocking the view. From a concert going perspective, wear comfortable shoes is best as you're standing through the two+ hours. The ventilation is okay so you could get warm fairly quickly. Plus, there's four bar stations throughout the venue so there's no shortage of drinks for purchase (snacks are available, too). Overall, I like that the parking garage is attached to the HOB along with many other shops. HOB representatives also offered discounts parking -- so you pay $8 for unlimited parking (rather than $4/hour).

This year we got the usual great lineup but instead of the DIY style show in a parking lot, Professor Vic moved it to the Cathedral. Located right off Garey, The Cathedral is tough to miss. There's plenty of street parking on Center St and there's also a small parking lot across the street. This used to be a YMCA but it looks like an old church with dark wood flooring, high ceilings and stained glass windows. A very cool venue. How did it sound? Loud. Extremely loud. They also had a huge video board which gave each band a little extra hot sauce. There were a couple of bars in the back and you could also order food. If you are looking for a restaurant with a large menu, you will be disappointed. Sure, portions of La La Land were filmed here, and they have some movie memorabilia in the back of the place but they offer far more than jazz here, if that is your impression. There is rock, reggae, salsa, lots of tribute bands, and other stuff. While this may have once been purely a jazz club, I am certain the market simply won't carry (most) strictly jazz places for very long. Based on one photo I saw on the wall, this place has been around for about 76 years. That is impressive. For jazz aficionados, they offer a three hour Sunday jazz brunch (and this is the only time when folks under 21 can enter, by the way). For brunch, there are only four food items available on the menu: a breakfast burrito, avocado toast, one pancake (singular, not plural) and bacon, sausage, and eggs. Remember, you are here for the music, not the food. As for the food, my breakfast burrito was interesting. Knowing restaurants in California, it was probably cooked by a Latino gentleman but this looked like th emost Caucasian burrito of all time. It had chorizo, eggs, potatoes, and other stuff in it, and the tortilla had a nice cheesy skirt on it. It was also on the spicier side, which I enjoyed, but fair warning. I wasn't sure I was going to like it by its looks but I ate the whole thing. It was also a belly bomb and kept me satisfied for about 6 or 7 hours afterward. The avocado toast was actually very good and made with good quality bread. I thought the music was excellent. The members of the band (the John Kithcart Quartert) played their assess off and really seemed to enjoy themselves. True jazz (not that soft elevator music gunk) was popular at one time but let's face it, it is not popular anymore. Jazz certainly can be enjoyed as background music while you enjoy your one pancake but it is certainly not intended to be enjoyed that way. To fully appreciate it, you have to pay attention to it. That doesn't seem too much of an ask. After all, it is the folks on the stage who are doing the hard work. Our server was very good. She was friendly and attentive. My only experience here is with the Sunday jazz brunch so I cannot speak for the venue at any other times. At least for the Sunday brunch, whether you like jazz or not, this place is well worth a try.
