Hula - Poke Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

I'm so glad we finally got a sushi burrito/poke bowl place near my house. They have a large variety of protein options ranging from your usual tuna and salmon to shrimp tempura and eel. There is such a large variety of items that you can get in either your bowl or burrito that you can get something different every single time you come here. The fish is fresh tasting and delcious. I would definitely recommend this place as I have been going here once a week since they opened. read more

So this place is super hit and miss for me. Sometime the fish is sorta fresh sometimes it's clearly old. Sometimes the seaweed salad is good, sometimes it's got a moldy/odd smell to it like it was sitting out all night but instead of tossing it, they continued to serve it.. The same can be said about the crab salad, which on some days smells like a dirty trash can and again feels like it was left out over night and served. Also something is up with the masago, because sometimes it's really rubbery, which is not normal. I would call my self an expert on poke bowl and building and I have been to every poke place in San Antonio compared to poke works in la cantera this place is barely hitting 3 stars. This place lacks the quality that most the places I've been to have. Excluding poke central which has this same exact problem and smells like old feet. Yeah sometimes it's a hit However most times it's a miss. If you just wants something quick and you are in this area I guess it's okay, as long as you stay away from the above items. I'm going to tell you right now if the place smells like fish, or has a fishy oder then this means the fish is not fresh. I would say 6 out of 10 times I've gone here it smells fishy. This in general is not a good sign and that goes for any sushi , poke, fish serving places. I can only give my own experience here, however the problems listed above will have to change before I come here again. Even then I might just hit la cantera. read more

I'm a bit disappointed in the poke bowl I ordered through Uber Eats. First off the ahí tuna as well as the salmon seemed like scraps (all very tiny cuts and all different sizes) there wasn't any consistency with the tuna and salmon. The fish would have been alright despite the sizing but it was very off, almost as if it was frozen fish that had sat out for a few days. The rest of the bowl was decent, the portions for the rice are a lot larger than back in New Orleans, but the size of the protein is a lot smaller here at Hula Poke. The classic sauce was not my favorite, but that is all personal preference (it tasted like a curry bbq sauce). All in all, I would like to go in person to the restaurant and see if the food is any different in person (sometimes this is the case). If you are use to high end poke, I would pass until further notice. read more

Dissatisfied. I had to dig through my salad to find the tiny bits of meat they provided. If you're going to provide so little protein why put it at the very bottom? Like you're hiding that you're cheap? Even the dressing was provided in a tiny cup and not even half way filled. I can't say I liked the food because there wasn't much of it and the folks working here seemed bored and not enthusiastic. I am only leaving a comment because I was still starving after 15 dollar bowl of nothing. read more

Hula poke is amazing. Fast, friendly and always fresh. The staff welcomes you with a great greeting and smiling faces. If you are unsure what to order, take a gander at one of their signature selections. I am forever a Hula Poke fan! Try the Sriracha Aioli, you won't regret it. They have something for everyone. Low- carb, high protein, vegetarian, choices are unlimited. read more

My boyfriend and I have had Poke, but only at one other place. So, we are pretty new in this realm of bowl-building. Came here closer to their closing time but it definitely wasn't closed yet. The employees let us stand around, awkwardly, unsure of where to start our Poke adventure for a good minute before we had to let them know we needed guidance (we were the only ones in the store). We had a different employees building our individual bowls, and the person I got was less than enthusiastic about helping me. I asked for avocado, which duh...understandably has an up-charge. I was, however, surprised that they also charge for cream cheese (the other place I visit did not charge for this, I don't know if this is common). Anyway, I asked for both, even having been given the disclaimer that it is more money to add each. Watch them closely though, upon sitting down to eat my bowl, I discovered that they added NEITHER avocado or cream cheese but charged me for both! Had I been allowed to eat my food in the restaurant, I would have been able to remedy the situation there, I'm sure. But I couldn't, as we were basically asked to leave (when asked if we wanted it to dine-in or to go, we said dine-in, and then we were told "just to let you know, we're closing" in a very icy tone) and we don't want to stay where we're not wanted so we took it to go. I was so upset when I got home to discover my bowl wasn't made the way I asked, that I couldn't even eat it. This place has a convenient location, but it is pricey for what you get (or what i got, anyway), and they don't give you control of the sauces you choose to put on your bowl (spicy mayo, eel sauce). I'm making the drive to go elsewhere and get my food the way I want it, for less money. read more

So good! Lots of choices, helpful staff and great food! Reasonably priced, too! The only drawback isn't the fault of the restaurant, but for people with asthma, it could be worth a mention. When I visited at lunchtime, on the way into and out of the restaurant, I had to walk through the smoke of 6-8 people smoking outside very close to Hula Poke's door. They appeared to be employees/customers of other businesses. read more

Hula Poke has become our standard of poke bowls - we love it and always wish there are similar offerings when we visit other poke places.

This is hands down the best and fair priced poke in San Antonio. The employees give you a fair amount of protein. The sushi rice is always cooked well. If the line is long, it will go by fast. The only down side is there is no drinking fountain. read more

Hula - The poki bowls here are amazing! - Poke Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

This place is a great when you want to grab a quick poke bowl. I would recommend a custom bowl, because you can load it up. Their signature bowls miss alot of items I would prefer. If you want a bland all ready made bowl from HEB, Central Market or Whole Foods($10-12), go have it. If you want the restaurant poke bowls($12-16), where youll have to pay for each additional item, you can pay for it. Give this place a try. It's $8.95 (2 proteins, I got salmon & tuna) to start. For an awesome "chipotle" style creation, go to Hula Poke! Plus they give military discount! read more

First Poke Experience was a hit! The staff are very patient with needy customer whom might be in front of you in line. ;)

Really great place in a hot concrete jungle. Walked 17 min there and back in San Antonio heat and it was worth it. I got a massive sushi burrito and my lunch companion got a massive poke bowl. We were both quite satisfied with our choices, and the freshness of all the ingredients, especially the fish. Hope I get a chance to hit this one up again. read more

Here from out of town but very impressed with the food at Hula Poke. I got a three protein bowl and was stuffed. I really enjoyed it. Flavors great. Food fresh. I would be a regular if I lived here. read more

Went with my husband one day because he knows that I live for sushi. I had read reviews and was super impressed that the Owner was so great at responding to their customers. I had originally planned on getting the sushi wrap/burrito but decided to get a bowl once the ladies let me know that the portions and options were more easily mixed this way. I was NOT disappointed! My bowl was practically spilling over and I ate almost every bite - it was that fresh and delicious. I ordered the salmon and eel as my two proteins and then added just about every topping they had. My husband ordered a bit lighter than I did, as he's still learning what flavors he likes most when it comes to sushi. He ate almost every bite too. As far as the service is concerned, the ladies working were super helpful and even let us sample a few of the crisps to get an idea of the flavor. I was really impressed with how the menu options were set up to allow for ease of choosing when making your selections. I'll definitely be going back! read more

This a great little place for a quick, convenient, well-portioned bowl of poke. You can get it with rice or salad as a base. They also do a poke "burrito", which is more like a large burrito sized sushi roll. The food is delicious. The staff is knowledgeable and very nice. It gets PACKED at lunch, so plan accordingly. I deducted a star because it's not completely established and looks like it's still under renovation--it gives it an "unclean" feeling is all. Has no effect on the food or staff, just not quite a 5 star joint yet. They'll get there! read more

I'm a big fan of the other location that used to be called rolling fish, and this location provides the same quality and variety that I have come to expect out of every poke place I visit. The quality of the fish is great - I usually go for plain tuna and salmon - and there are so many possible combos of toppings you could go for...it's hard to go wrong. I especially love the different types of crunchies and added on some lotus chips to my bowl. I ended up with a heaping bowl at the end and it was definitely plenty filling with the three-scoop option ringing up at only about $11. I will definitely be back whenever the poke mood strikes! read more

The place smelled like fish when we walked in and not fresh stinky fish. The fish didn't look fresh or taste fresh either.

I'm from Hawaii. Let me just preface that before I even start. When I get a poke bowl back home, it's chunks of fresh fish. Here, what I got was the consistency of ground beef, which wasn't as appealing to me. I did like that I was able to put as much and as many toppings as I wanted. The staff wasn't as friendly as all the reviews had said. I felt like the server I had was actually annoyed with everything I wanted to put in my poke bowl. Essentially the idea of the poke place being the "chipotle" of poke/sushi is fun. I just don't think I would come to get an authentic poke bowl. read more

I came here for a meeting after being referred by a friend and it was great! The bowl I got was amazing and pretty well priced. The last time I had tried to come here, the line went out the door, and this time it wasn't that busy at all. The service was awesome, it was clean, and it wasn't loud at all, so it was really easy to have conversation. I'm for sure coming back and recommending this place to my friends! read more

I really wanted to try this place but unfortunately it was not up to standard. I tried all three items, sushi burrito, sushi salad bowl, sushi rice bowl. 1. The poke scoop is so small...size of a watermelon baller 2. The poke quality is poor...frozen and refrigerated poorly and with fishy smell 3. The topping ingredients seemed fresh Updated: gave then another try. The tuna poke smelled fresh and looked tasty. Still serving was very small so i opted to get the three scoops which was nice for my stomach but no wallet. Wish serving sizes were bigger but I appreciate the consistency. read more

This place was sooo good!! I don't remember exactly what I got, but they have a wide variety of things to add to your bowl for a really good price. The wait time was about 15 mins, not bad at all. I ordered through the yelp app and it was an easy transaction. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I used to drop in all the time and it was GREAT, absolutely loved the place, everything was fresh and very tasty. my advice is DO NOT eat here during covid, they only to takeout or delivery. someone's not paying attention. i just got home with my $13 bowl and it was full of what looked like 3 day old wilted lettuce. i ordered double salmon & i counted 5 pieces that smelled like a bait stand. i really don't want to go into more details about how wrong this was but i sure hope they appreciate my very generous tip. just close if you can't do a good job. read more

That was amazing!!! Great basic ingredients and a lot of add ons! Great flavor and fast friendly service. I wish I had a place like this close to where I live. read more

I wasn't impressed by the "Subway style" serving and small area to be seated. The prices were very high for what they offered.

Service was excellent! My first visit and the gentleman who took my order was super.informative and explained how everything worked. I got the spicy salmon and ahi tuna poke bowl and loads of ingredients; cucumber, brown rice, onions, edamame, green onions, letruce, jalepenos. I topped it all off with sesame seeds, sesame oil, spicy ginger dressing, ginger and wasabi. My disappointment was with the dressings there was just no flavor and you'd think with all those ingredients my taste buds would have been jumping for joy but no :( Im.going to give it another shot and post again. I want this to be a 5 because it has the potential with.all the fresh ingredients and variety! read more

This place was fantastic!! Loved that you could build a sushi burrito or a bowl!! All Ingredients were fresh, you could put on a lot of toppings and the sauce choices were fantastic! The only thing that is holding me back from a five star is the protein is really minimal!! However, what I did get was delish!! read more

This is a build your sushi roll and rice bowl fast food place. The ingredients are fresh. You get a choice between sushi rice or brown rice for your base. Then you get to choose 12 choices of fish protein(tuna, salmon, Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, eel, chicken, tofu, crab or shrimp. The quality of the fish is medium so don't expect anything special. Then you get lots and lots of veggies. Even fresh mango and pineapple for some Hawaiian flavors. Then many choices of sauces to toss the salad and protein. Finally crunchy toppings and more veggies, herbs, crunchy toppings, seaweed and condiments. I got 3 scoops of proteins but the portions of proteins were small. I guess for the price of it I should not complain. $10.95 for a bowl that's healthy for you. $8.95 for 2 scoops of protein. read more
