3.5/5 Stars I will say that for this city, Hula Poke will do well in this city. Not that it needs me to say this. A California Asian girl, I have standards that stand a tad more rigorous than Texans, I would say- at least when it comes to fresh, top tier quality seafood. That being said, even though I do know how to make my food look good haha, there was some sogginess and mushiness in both the eel & salmon proteins that were chosen. This was slight, however. Overall, the seafood was had a good flavor and freshness. The usual complaint was there, that the ratio to vegetables/other toppings was something something like 1:5 to 1:8. I suppose this can be expected. It was irksome that so many things were extra, including several toppings, several "premium" options for main proteins, when the price for the bowls themselves was already the rather premium almost $20 after taxes. I did maximize on all the toppings. All the ones that were not an extra fee- which there were many of both free and not free, luckily. My overflowing bowl was beautifully colorful. The crunch was pleasing. No complaints on the toppings. They even offer sides here. I really was not planning on getting anything else; I was literally on my way out the door, but when I saw those sesame balls on the menu, I knew I had to order some for nostalgia's sake- despite the ridiculous $6.49 sticker. Those sweet red bean filled, deep fried, calorie dense puffs did not disappoint! Being honest, they were fine. Good enough. Probably average, Ranch 99, Chinese Bakery bought. Sadly, when you are in Texas, you will take what you can get sometimes! Nice that they offer the sides, including Butterfly Shrimp, Harumaki, & Takoyaki, another favorite of mine! The service was simple and quick enough, since it was take out for this experience. The place looked pretty small, maybe next time I will stay a while!
The sushi burrito here was a little small but it was tasty. The fish tasted fresh and the sushi rice was well made. The service was friendly. I would come back here and try their appetizers and bowls.
Hula Poke always hits the spot! This amazing restaurant is located in the San Pedro area (in the same shopping center as Guitar Center). Please keep in mind that their parking lot is pretty small and they are currently undergoing construction, so part of it is closed. However, Hula Poke is a quick and delicious place to grab some food, so people usually move in and out of the restaurant fairly quickly. With that being said, their menu is very self-explanatory. They have a full bar where you select what you'd like to have in your bowl or salad. In my opinion going with the sushi rice as a base is always the way to go. During my last visit I got a scoop of salmon and spicy tuna. I wasn't sure which sauces to include and the staff made some great recommendations. The food was fresh and delicious as you might expect. My only feedback is that the spicy tuna was a little too spicy. I am someone who eats spicy food with breakfast, lunch and dinner, and it definitely caught ME off guard. Highly recommend checking out this amazing restaurant if you are near North Star and are craving something fresh to beat the Texas heat.
The staff was super friendly, I mentioned this was my first time here and he was very patient and polite guiding me through the process. This is a "chipotle style" ordering but with poke bowls. The environment was very welcoming and there was some tables there too if you'd like to eat there. My poke bow was delicious! I customized my own with my main proteins being spicy salmon and ahi tuna. Definitely will be coming back and trying some more delicious poke!
Listen -- we're in San Antonio eating poke! I've been enjoying poke for 15+ years, and it's awesome to see more U.S. cities hopping on this trend, just like Nashville hot chicken. More spots are popping up, and Hula Poke is a solid option. If it's your first time, think Subway or Chipotle but for poke -- fresh veggies, raw fish options, and a ton of sauce combos to choose from. The rice is always cooked perfectly, ingredients are fresh, and prices are about what you'd expect for poke these days. Why not 5 stars? Well... not every spot in town has access to the absolute freshest ahi tuna, so sometimes the fish can be a step below what I'd call top-tier. But honestly, Hula Poke makes the most of what they get, and it's still super tasty. Staff is super friendly, the spot is small but usually not crowded, and there's a place to sit. Bonus: my wife isn't a fish fan, so whenever I get a chance to sneak out for poke, this is my go-to!
Great poke place in San Antonio! Some things that make this place stand out amongst other poke places: - the staff gives VERY generous portions - option of eel as protein (yummy!) - option of shrimp tempura as protein - they toss everything but the rice in the sauce to make everything super flavorful! I would definitely come back and definitely recommend!
I had the chance to try Hula Poke today since I was craving Poke, and let me just say this quality of food does not disappoint! I ordered from DoorDash and this wouldn't be my first time trying this delicious place, I can say the food is well put together and super tasty! I usually get it delivered cause I'm a great distance away so I can't comment on the service but the food speaks for itself! You will not be disappointed to explore the exotic food here. I ordered a Poke Bowl which comes with customizable options that really make the ordering experience simple and easy! The flavors of the Crab Sticks & Salmon are so tasty and I would definitely recommend getting a variations of sauces to find your perfect preference! I also love the Takoyaki, it is a must try at this yummy restaurant. Only downside I would add is the hot cheetos I had in my bowl were a bit stale and my rice could've been a little more fresh but that's all I would have to say other than that you should really check out this lovely food.
I have a favorite poke spot in Houston (where I live). But Hula Poke challenged that hard. The restaurant is clean and well-decorated with comfy, leather chairs. Props to the designer behind this. Edit: Apparently the owner herself designed this space! The fish is fresh, and I love that they offer organic brown rice. I got the sushi rice because I thought it would've been seasoned but it wasn't - so next time, half brown rice and half kale. I got spicy tuna with regular salmon, but I should've gotten just the regular tuna and salmon given that their spicy ginger sauce is fire (not as in super spicy but as in spicy enough and scrumptious). I also love that their sauces aren't overly sweet. The wasabi mayo is also delicious. Get that on the rice. For my next visit, I would get: -1/3 organic brown rice if I'm in the mood, with - raw tuna, salmon, and unagi, plus: - cucumber, mango, pineapple, julienned carrots and zucchini, baby kale, lots of baby kale, a couple of broccoli florets, and a lot of edamame, mixed with - both spicy ginger and ponzu sauces, - a dash wasabi mayo on the rice, then topped with - tamago (sweet egg bites), ginger, seaweed salad, nori, sesame seeds, masago, bonito flakes, and green onion. So satisfying. Edit: We loved it so much here that we dropped by again the following day before our drive home. The gentleman behind the counter remembered me and was so sweet and friendly! And the poke was just as delicious. We miss Hula Poke already.
Poke places are few and far between in San Antonio (or at least, good poke places are), so I was curious when I found out about Hula Poke - along with all of its highly rated reviews. Overall, it did the job and fulfilled the craving, and I enjoyed the bowl I created. The service was excellent - as a first timer, I appreciated the patience and kindness of the worker who guided me through all of the options they offered for creating your own bowl. The portions are generous. The bowl is deceiving - it is deep and very filling! Especially if you take advantage of all of the toppings they offer. You select your base, 2 or 3 protein choices, veggies, sauces, toppings, and final touches (furikake, sesame seeds, etc.). I wish there was a classic ahi tuna option (perhaps there is and it just wasn't available at the time I went!), but I got the regular tuna and the spicy salmon and spicy tuna. The fish and ingredients were all fresh, which is vital for a poke place. The only extra costs are avocado or cream cheese add-ons. Everything else comes with the cost of your bowl, so pile it on! There is indoor seating available, takeout, and order online availability. Give them a visit if you're craving poke!
Is it just me or is ordering at. Poke place kind of confusing? I guess I just overwhelmed with all the choices as everything looks good. I ordered a 2 protein bowl with ahi tuna and eel. All the other stuff I added was what seemed to go together well. I had vegetables as my base in place of rice to make it lower carb. I have to admit it was spicier than I expected. Everything was fresh and flavorful. My total was $18as I added avocado which is an extra charge and a soda. I felt my lunch was a good health alternative to my usually salad with chicken or a bunless burger. This place was very good and I would come back next time I am in the area.
Im so happy I found this place. It's small but cute, they have the freshest ingredients, varied and colorful toppings and dressings. Whatever combination your heart desires. The portions are generous and the prices are fair.
Yum! Really good poke bowl. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, fast delivery with UberEats. Brown rice base was well cooked, veggies are crisp, all my fave toppings (edamame, pickled ginger and daikon, zucchini noodles, tomago, bonito flakes, shredded nori and more!). Side of seaweed salad is also very good. Recommend.
My favorite place to get food like their menu items and personal favs; 2 protein poke bowl and or the sushi burrito service is great very friendly. Casual ambiance with some indoor seatings not for large parties.
I'm already planning my next visit here! This place is so good and I love that you can build your own bowls or sushi burritos. Everything was extremely fresh and delicious! I build my own burrito with shrimp tempura, edamame, jalapeños, mango, seaweed salad, and sriracha aioli. It was so good! The staff was really nice and did not rush us. I liked that you could eat inside and the place was really clean. read more
I love having a solid option for poke here in San Antonio. The bowls are tasty and there are many options for toppings, proteins, and sauces. I love being able to make my bowl as spicy as I want with options like wasabi sauce and spicy tuna. The toppings are all tasty and fresh and anyone could eat here due to how customizable the bowls are. I think they even have chicken and tofu options if you don't like seafood. I do think the portion of the fish is a little small for how big the bowls are. I've also had higher quality poke in other places, but this is one of the best (and only) options for poke in this part of town. Overall I'm grateful for Hula Poke for being there to satisfy my poke cravings! read more
Service was good. If I were to come back I would come back for the bowls, not the sushiritto. The way it was wrapped made everything fall apart. Pricing was decent. The imitation crab isn't the kind that I'm used to either. Overall the staff was nice and the place is super clean. read more

2 Star Review because I am not really sure if it is the restaurant's fault or the delivery service's fault, but I placed an order for 2 poke bowls, only received 1, which left a sour taste in my mouth. Once I got over the order issue (my husband ended up finding lunch for himself elsewhere) I went to eat my shrimp tempura poke bowl and was overall very underwhelmed by the lack of shrimp tempura. The bowl was mostly lettuce and onion with a bed of crab salad. I don't plan to order here again, no just due to the order mix up, but because of the disappointing food. Very unsatisfied. read more

Hello Nicole,…
The flavors are endless and the product taste fresh and delicious. There are several combinations to choose from here but if you want to just do a custom bowl or roll that is also on the menu as well. I'm extremely happy to see that they are doing such a extraordinary job with cleanliness here and I feel like it's a safe place to recommend to folks I know. Love the poké bowls & wraps! They have zucchini noodles too now too. Avocado is a up charge so don't act shocked lol. They always have been very clean even before the pandemic but it means a lot to me that mask are being worn correctly here and I feel very pleased with all the attention to operating safely during the pandemic. It's a stark difference between them and the Jimmy John's next to them that is doing absolutely terrible at masking. Anyway, yumz.Go here. read more

The Hula Poke In Dezavala is my favorite go to for poke bowls. I wanted to check out the second Hula Poke location to see if the standards are up to par with the original location... here goes my pros and cons. Pros: *Staff was friendly. *Service was right on *Had the same Add-Ons in poke bowls as the original location. * had complimentary lemon water-self serve same as first location * price is the same * similar layout as first location Cons: * Place seems smaller than original * toppings: The lotus chips was soggy and not crispy like the normal lotus chips I usually add at the Dezavala location. * the vibe was not the same * the pickled daikon tasted strange I am a fan of Hula Poke and its always my hotspot to go grab a fresh bowl of poke for sushi craving. The soggy stale lotus chips was a no go for me. No one should ever eat soggy stale chips and the staff should know it's stale when they pick it up with their hands to serve. For that reason I rated 3 stars. I don't know if I came on a bad day but I will come check out this location again in the future for a second opinion. Will change my review as deem fitted. read more

I don't even know what a poke is let alone how to say it properly. What I do know is that while traveling in San Antonio, my trusty Yelp! App said, "GO HERE!!" And thank you Yelp! Again, no idea what poke is. All I know is that it was delicious and I was full for the night. Started with a base of brown rice with some lettuce tossed on top. Then went a little nuts with salmon, spicy tuna, and ahi tuna. For good measure some sesame seeds, jalapeños, seaweed salad and whatever other magical treats they tossed in the mix. The bowl weighed a ton! And from the first to the last bite it was delicious! Being a newbie to the world of poke, the staff was happy to explain everything to me even though I still didn't know what I was getting in to. Bottom line is GO HERE!! Your belly and taste buds will thank you for it. read more

After getting several angry messages from SA friends and family every time I'd post an IG photo of a poke bowl or sushi burrito, SA has finally got a place to check out this food trend! Frankly I have no idea what took so long, but Hula Poke is a great spot to get your feet wet. DIY Chipotle-style setup allows you to pick your bowl or burrito along with base, proteins, mix-ins, sauces, and toppings, of which they have several- I had to add on the crab, seaweed, and masago to mine, which are all free toppings. Avocado is extra, is you'd expect, but pricing overall is reasonable and portions (especially for the 3 protein option) are huge. Even after a workout I could barely finish my order! Staff are friendly, location is small but clean, parking lot is always busy so be prepared to hike from Guitar Center. Fish and other ingredients were super fresh, they'll probably be especially busy in the hot summer months when warm food isn't appealing. read more

We're happy to be bringing poke to the San Antonio community,…
We came during grand opening where they had a BOGO offer. It's a pretty small restaurant with a tiny parking lot, so I can see it being extremely uncomfortable during lunch weekday hours. We came on a Sunday around 12:30pm, but it was still very busy. There's a row of bar seating against the wall and a few small 4 person tables. You start at the line by choosing your rice, meats, and added items such as vegetables, seasonings and other items. It's very much like a salad bar, but with sushi. You create a bowl and then have a seat to away your worries. I added pretty much everything I could. The meat tasted good and the vegetables were fresh. I asked for the sauce on the side which helped with making the bowl not overly saturated, but by the middle of the bowl I wanted a little more sauce. Prices are reasonable at under $10. Bowl is pretty large, you could probably split one. read more

Thank god San Antonio finally have more diversity in terms of food that are not spicy or Tex-Mex. This place is newly open but they have many fresh ingredients, servers are friendly too. I prefer to do my poke with half salad and half brown rice. Favorite toppings include: Salmon, Tuna and Eel. Blended with my favorite veggie toppings and dressing, all set! Hopefully they can have some sort of reward programs. read more

Very clean place. Service was fast and excellent friendly and helpful. This is a fairly new restaurant but I'm impressed with the food that is offered is healthy. You are able to create your own Poke Bowl which is What I chose with organic brown rice. My protein was boiled shrimp my mix ins cucumber, edamame, red onion, sweet corn, red cabbage and kale. My dressing was house classic. My toppings were green onions seaweed salad my crunch was garlic crisps and lotus chips. Some of these ingredients I have never tried in my life. I will say I was not disappointed everything was fresh and flavorful. I also tried the miso soup well it's something I will have to acquire a taste for. If you are into to healthy choices give them a try. read more

Can I just say this place is awesome and tastier than the original location?! Portions are huge! I'll be getting 2 protein option next time! Staff was welcoming upon walking in. Unlimited samples to taste the side extra offerings. Try the lotus flower..tastes like chips! Usual bottled drinks, ramune and aloe vera juice for sale. Filling for the most empty of stomachs. In the same shopping complex next to the Apollo Locos right across from North Park mall. Decided to be "good" for lunch and convinced myself to drive out to get a poke bowl. I chose the 3 protein bowl which is largest size. The scoops of protein were tiny! Literally tablespoons of spicy tuna and spicy salmon. My third protein was the eel and they gave me 3 pieces! That's all! Seeing that I had to add everything else to my bowl to fill it up. Extra avocado and cream cheese was $3 more totaling up to a $15 bowl. Pretty pricey compared to other locations. The quality of fresh veggies, ingredients, and choices of fish was very good so it wasn't too bad of a deal. Will come back if they give me more protein! read more
