Camp here every summer and our family loves this beach. Only thing is it doesn't have a bathroom so if you have kids you have to be creative or go to the shopping center. This beach is perfect for swimming, body boarding, boogie boarding, kite surfing, SUP, jet ski, kayak, etc. read more

My family and I stayed a couple blocks away from Hukilau Beach. Loved walking over and enjoying the empty beach and beautiful ocean water. The waves are a little rougher out here but still calm enough to bring out some snorkeling gear and enjoy the warm water. Mostly surfers out here the further North you go. The beach is super clean and there are showers available to clean up before heading home. Lots of food trucks nearby if you're hungry. There are an assortment of parking lots off the main road. read more

Laie is "far away", so I hardly ever go to this side of the island ("northern Oahu"). So, if you're going to pick me up, sure... I'll go with you! That's what happened one weekend in March. A friend from San Jose was visiting, and Angel and Anthony were so nice to pick him up from Ala Moana Hotel where he was staying. Then, the 3 of them came to Kaneohe where I live (it's on the way to Laie), and picked me up, too! Yay! Prior to this, I had never heard of this beach and had never been there. Luckily, we used GPS and found it! There's a nice big sign, FREE parking, but no restroom. Our San Jose visitor had the option of walking to the store down the street, or... Hint: he refused to go swimming... Well, you guys are luckier than us gals,,, Anthony is a tough guy, so he braved the strong current and crashing waves and swam. It seemed like we went at high tide, so I got knocked around in the water, too. The wind was also strong, so our mainland visitor wrapped a towel around himself because it was a bit chilly. This is a beautiful beach, but I wouldn't recommend swimming here. It's windy, so I wouldn't have a picnic here either. It's just a peaceful place with natural beauty, untouched by crowds and civilization. Maybe I'd return in the summer when it's warmer and the sun isn't hidden with the clouds of springtime... read more

Hukilau Beach is the picture of perfection. It's gorgeous and clean. The views are spectacular. No wonder it's my hubby's favorite beach. There are a few parking spaces in the front. Very few people come to this beach, so it's never crowded. The water is crystal clear. The sand is thin with no rocks. The water is usually warm, but today it was freezing. Anthony and Nadine braved it and went into the ice water. Such brave souls, lol. read more

This was probably my favorite beach in this area. It wasn't too crowded either time we went in the afternoon or the evening. The waves here are a little tougher and good for body surfing, boogie boarding, or some light surfing for the kiddos (we were here in middle of September). If you want calmer water I'd recommend that you check out a different beach. They also have showers to rinse off the salt and sand. read more

Ever heard the song, "We are going to the Hukilau..." well it was written for Hukilau beach in Lāie. Perfect beach to come to with the ohana, sandy swimming area, lots of shade along the camping ground area, and a small parking area near the beach. We always enjoy swimming and flying kites at Hukilau. When camping it's fun to catch crabs or to lay net at night with the keiki. On the leeward side of the camping area is a river and sometimes the mouth opens into the ocean. It's fun to stand-up paddle in and go downriver. The sand bank also goes all the way to Kahuku so it's perfect for a beach run or workout. I've done some early morning jogs from the point to the end of Malaekahana and the view is beautiful. Despite how much our island home has been developed I love how somethings never change and Hukilau Beach is one of those places. Afterwards, I recommend visiting Hukilau Cafe right down the road in the residential area for some ono grinds. Five stars because it's hands down one of the best beaches on this Island. read more

Beautiful beach, on the north shore of the island of Oahu. There's a little parking lot where you can pull off the road and find a space. Short walk to the beach, nice sandy shores to the left into the right. Removing a star because of all of the little bits of plastic everywhere. It's not the beaches fault, it's our fault but man, there is so much plastic pollution hitting the North Shore of Hawaii it's really sad read more

Such a lovely and beautiful beach in Laie. The parking area is open daily except for Sundays. You'll be greeted by this nicely done (hand-made?) sign written with the words Hukilau Beach on it. Waves can be a bit strong at times, but for the most part, a great place to have a picnic or just relax. read more

I love going to this spot. The parking can be scarce, but worth the walk; however, most of the time I have parking available. The Hukilau cafe is down the way, and a great place to stop to grab a snack. I have been on a date here, and we had a very good time. I plan to bring a picnic lunch with my next date because there is plenty of shade and some areas for privacy wink wink* Be aware that a lot of people let their dogs run around freely at this beach--watch your step. read more

Hidden gem, never too crowded- small town feel. Perfect sand and the waves are perfect, not as aggressive as it is on the north shore!

Wow!! I've visited Oahu and Maui more than a handful of times and by far my experience in Hukilau beach has been one of the best! I don't come often to this side of North Shore, so when my family and I were looking for a beach I was using Google Maps to guide us to an accessible beach with *free* parking and a beautiful view. Gosh did Hukilau Beach deliver! We were one of three families on this side of the beach, and the waves were large enough to be fun and wade in, but easy enough to be in for novices like myself and mother-in-law. My only bone to pick with the beach was that the waves kicked up LOTS of sand when they crashed and it got into alllllll the spaces it could find lol. But honestly these were *super* fun waves to be in, and if I'm just complaining about sand then really I shouldn't be at the beach at all right LOL. I spent a good 45-60 min there and loved every minute of it! I definitely suggest you to visit - however the waves are fairly strong so if you have little kids I wouldn't take them too close to the zone where the waves break. There are plenty of other calm spaces for smaller kids, just be mindful that the crashes have some oomph to them! read more

I just love this beach. Having stayed now 2 times in one of the rentals properties and being able to enjoy this beach is amazing. Clear clear water with pockets of coral. It's better to snorkel in the morning when the waters a bit calmer but there's one spot where I saw a ton of a variety of fish! Plus there is a few turtles that seem to live there. The waves are great for kids boogie boarding and or body surfing. The afternoons seemed to call out a few kite surfers who ride those all over the ocean. I can't believe the distance those things can go! Only draw back is if it's rainy the stream empties into this beach making the water brown and dirty. So just don't go when it's raining. read more

Nice beach that was calm when all the others on the North shore were crazy. Was actually able to get in the water without risking injury. Clean too, and not crowded the first day we went but lot was full the second day. Good for relaxing and hanging out, definitely worth a stop if you aren't looking to find the big wave. read more

Beach is closed on Sunday's but it is a nice beach with a sandy bottom. Someone from our party got stung by a jellyfish, which I hear is common in the area so bring a bottle of vinegar or some soda to wash the stingers away and wear a long sleeved rash guard. There is also an shower to wash off at the beach. Note that the parking lot is closed on Sunday's as most of the shops in that area are. read more

In January - This beach is easily accessible, has soft sand, predictable but enjoyable waves for a novice waterman (body surfing and boogie boarding), and the water was amazing with for the most part a soft sand bottom. An ideal Hawaii destination for those looking to relax or have fun in the water. However, no restroom (thats what the ocean is for) and no lifeguard. I'm surprised this beach is rated so high; maybe I just came on the wrong days. It is beautiful to look at and uncrowded. However, the continual strong winds and frequent dark clouds make it uninviting to sunbathe at. Worse, at least these last few days we've been staying in the area, the beach is covered with trash which mostly came in with the tide. Seeing all these bits of colored plastic in every size from small to large is a sobering reminder of the indestructibility of plastic but detracts significantly from the beach's natural beauty. My advice is to keep driving--there are plenty of beautiful sandy beaches on Oahu with more sun, less wind, and less garbage. read more

The parking can be scarce but if you don't mind walking a bit, there's a parking lot that you can park at a couple streets down. The view is beautiful and the sand is not too rough. The waves were very strong on the day that we went so it was hard to stay in the water longer than we would like because we would get knocked down a couple of times but it is definitely be a great beach to use a wakeboard. Someone in my group had been stung by a jellyfish which is common in this area so make sure to bring vinegar prior to going to this beach. Also, I don't believe there is a spot to cliff jump at this location. read more
