This is a cute little beach park on the east side of Oahu. There is not actually a beach but a sea wall with steps down to rocky shallow waters. There are about 10 parking spaces on the south side of the park. There is a nice colorful playground with interactive activities. A portico covers 3 picnic tables. There is a building with rest rooms and an outdoor shower for water lovers to clean off. There are a shade trees with additional picnic tables where the Hawaiian women relax. I loved the views of the mountains on the west side sloping down to a little village. The park was quiet on Saturday with only 1 other group there. This is a good place to come relax and have a picnic.

I was driving to a local nearby hike when I stumbled upon this gorgeous beach. OMG!!!!! It's a little slice of literal paradise. After the hike, we returned here to go for a quick dip. This beach reminds me a bit of what Lanakai used to be like before so many people started going there. It is basically empty here. It really is the most peaceful beach, and they have showers and restrooms. I highly, highly recommend it! As others mention in reviews - it's probably best to keep your items closer to the sea wall as the water can come up pretty high in areas. Just gorgeous!

One of my favorite beaches/spots in Hawaii. Stay for sunset for the best experience. I love this beach but my all time favorite would be Waikiki beach.

My co-worker asked me if this was a real picture. LOL.

***Pre/During COVID-19 Visit*** If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, this is the place to do it. It's on the coastal line and you literally park on the side of the road for this beach. It's not a big beach by any means so you'll see some small strips of beach sand and a couple of people. Mainly locals frequent this beach and I've seen them surfing and just chilling. I went and the waves were a bit too strong for me. However, it's a beautiful beach and you will love driving by it. My co-worker who is from here is right... some of the best beaches on the island are the ones literally on the side of the road. She wasn't lying!

    Beautiful scenery

This beach is a winnah for swimming and barbecues. Located right across ka'a'awa elementary school, on the windward side. There is a restroom and showers. Parking area is small but but you can park along the sides of highway. The beach is narrow and long with nice clean sand. There are a lot of beach goers but still plenty of room to barbecue put a tent up. Water is calm and shallow most days. Very nice to just lounge in water and sun bathe. The water is oh so clear and beautiful. Scenery is another plus for this beach. I highly recommend for family picnics. Good place to dive and seen a lot of people fishing. A beach you must check out if you haven't yet.

Very good beach here. Pretty small, but that's one of the reasons it's so great. This is a lesser known beach by tourists and I don't think I've seen anyway while there. Mainly locals roam this "hidden" gem. I'll start this off by saying NO ROCKS!!!! The sand is perfect here and coral doesn't start till a bit out. I can't speak on the snorkeling here as when I went the waves were just a bit choppy so it was hard to see under the ocean with all the sand blowing around. I'll definitely return to update my review once I do a bit a snorkeling. The beach is very family friendly with limited parking. Very limited, so plan ahead. The drive here is also great. Very scenic. Loved this beach. One of my top 5 for sure!

Normally I would love to let the Yelp community know about places out there for them to enjoy. However Kaaawa Beach is an exception. I love this beach and so do the others who live in Kaaawa and neighboring communities. Why is Kaaawa beach so great? 1. Parking is right along side of the road. 2. There are bathrooms and shower within a short walk of the beach 3. It is nice and sandy, very friendly for kids 4. On most days, there are hardly any waves on shore. 5. There is a grassy area to setup pop tents for a party. 6. The water is crystal clear! These are a few reasons why Kaaawa Beach is a hidden gem! If you are looking for a family friendly beach to take the kids to and you live on the Windward Side, this is a must. *On 3 day weekends and holidays, I'd suggest going early as parking is limited.

My favorite beach on the north shore if you want to just chill, hang with the family and take in the great views!

My favorite beach in Oahu! I always have to spend a few days here. Calm waters. Not to over crowded!

I live right across the street from this beautiful beach. And every morning and noon I just go for a walk the sound of the Ocean and the Sunrise in the mornings the Sunset at noon. Is what I look forward every day.

Always clean and pretty quiet. A nice beach park for picnics and small family gatherings. Parking can be scarce.

Celebration of Life at the beach on the Windward side of O'ahu, Hawai'i…read more.. My high school classmate's Memorial Service was posted on Facebook. I had been working with her son, so I wanted to see him in person and drop off a sympathy card. I asked a bunch of classmates to join me, but Kahana Bay is about a 45-minute drive from Honolulu without traffic. Most people had to work or had other plans. Two gals were able to attend! Towards the end of the journey to Kahana Bay Beach, the road narrows down to one lane. Along the way, the scenery is breathtaking because some of the road is right next to the ocean. Using GPS, I entered the first parking lot, but I didn't see any signs. I parked at the next parking lot - which was for Kahana Bay Camping Site - and I walked on the sand to the Beach Park. I found the large tent with many white picnic tables and benches. I signed in at the reception table and presented my envelope. My friend's son was there - so I had a chance to chat with him before the service. The parking was all free. Some parts of the lot weren't paved. The sand was white and almost powdery-fine in texture. The foliage grew wildly. The shade from the trees was much appreciated. This was a peaceful area with no cell phone service. It was a place where my friend had spent her childhood... and now she has been laid to rest here... Aloha 'oe, Lyanne... until we meet again...

The restrooms are a little strange since the stalls are half the height of typical stalls. If someone is already in there you may just want to wait until they are finished. We saw some dogs here that seemed homeless. Hopefully we were wrong and their owners were close by. We did not stay too long since it was raining and chilly. Overall, it was a nice place to stop and rest before continuing our drive.

It's an entirely man made island where there are activities like paddle board, group canoe, kayaking, volleyball, and lounging. The only downside with the water activities here is that is limited freedom on where one can go. Is say about 75 yards on each direction. Trust me on this, YOU WILL GET CALLED BACK. However it is for your safety. All of these come with a fee of course, but since work and I were there for a wedding, it was all paid for. There is no food provided, however you CAN BRING YOUR OWN FOOD AND DRINKS, provided there is no glass brought in. It's a great place for a little get away, from your little get away and I recommend to do this while on the island.

Beware of the The 30-40ft. rock climbing in the middle of the hike.. there's a rope "use it as a guide" only. It took us 40 minutes going in ( we have a 4 yr.old ). Some parts are very slippery we decided to wear our "spikes" to make it faster.. a lot of stream crossings, holding on to the roots.. there was 2 dead boars on the path full of maggots, (2/3/18) so wait till it get washed off.. Tips: spikes, Atleast 1 bottled water, gloves, off/bug spray. Be courteous to the neighborhood. Turn to the right on the fork.

All week long, people have been asking me, "Jeff, what did…read moreyou do to your leg?" "Oh, well, hell, I took a little spill while hiking." "Where were you hiking?" "Out in Ka'a'awa (North Shore)." "Yeah, but where?" "You know what? I don't remember the name? And, it really doesn't matter, cause I wouldn't recommend it anyway." I must have said that a hundred times this week. And here's why: With any great hike, at some point, there has to be a payoff. A "Wow" moment when that the little voice in your head says, "Yeah, that's why." That never happened for me here. Was it a great work out? Hell yeah, the best. My muscles hurt from my delts to my quads and hammies. Not the kind of pain you get from gym works, but the kind from physical labor. It was a educational hike. I saw things, and figured out things that I had never thought of before (and learning is fun! Knowledge is power!). Large pockets of fresh water house an abundance of Tahitian prawns. Their slender bodies and spindly claws showing easily through the waters surface. Wild guava are in abundance, and beautiful red Hawaiian ginger is sprouting around every corner. Sadly, my brain never clicked and said "wow" (not even a lower case wow). To get to the Falls you have to traverse dried river bed, and being that it's dry? That's right...no Falls. The 30-40 foot rope climb, up a moss covered wall was exhilarating, but coming down was nerve-racking. It was here that I slipped, and, trust me, spiked shoes are the worst? Ever walk on smooth tile in golf shoes? The location is marked perfectly on the Yelp map. Parking is side of the road only, and the entrance is right at the end of the dead end road. Use common sense. Look, I'm not one to tell you what to do. You wanna go? Go. I just don't see the point, there are better hikes with more value just up the road. That being said? Fresh Guava jam dose sound delicious? Right? And Tahitian prawns in shoyu and wasabi, fresh off the bbq? Well...we'll see. Aloha :)
