We were the mission to check out some new beaches on the Windward side of Oahu. Checked Yelp and confirmed by a friends who had visited two days earlier, we were heading to Sherwoods Beach. Is this a secret beach? There was not signs pointing to the beach, but we found our way to a large paved parking lot. Coming here on Wednesday around 1pm, there were about 8 people on the beach. It was so serene and peaceful. The sand was soft and fine and the water was turquoise blue. Being on the Windward side, it did sprinkle with the passing clouds. Great beach without the big crowds! I came here with a friend on the weekend at around 9am since we were exploring this side of the island for the day. We stumbled upon Sherwoods Beach and it was so peaceful and not chaotic. There's plenty of parking here as well. This beach had a good blend of wooded trees and nice and soft sand! The beach was also pretty clean as well! It was extremely sunny here (especially in the morning), but the overall atmosphere was what made it enjoyable for my friend and I. It was not busy/touristy, and we appreciated the quietness and calmness of this beach. Overall, if you're on this side of the island and want a clean beach away from the tourists, this is the place to go! read more

Hideaway (READ - not signposted on the road so only for those "in the know") gem, truly a secret beach! We initially at Sandy Beach where the waves were rough - the lifeguard warned of neck injuries from the waves crashing boogie boarders onto the shore. He recommended Sherwoods just 15 minutes away. Secret location, far fewer people, more than ample parking, bathrooms, outdoor showers and plenty of shade from the Sherwood Forest along the shore! Perfect venue and my teens loved the boogie boarding. Oh, lifeguards too! It is near Waimanalo so there are nearby food options, perfect! read more

Gorgeous beach with lots of shade from the trees. Ample parking, shower and restrooms available. However, swim at your own risk!!! The minute we arrived, we saw two people at the life guard station being treated with a vinegar spray for man-o-war stings. Before heading to the water, we saw two wash up on the sand. Great beach for the local residents, as it is not usually too crowded outside of weekends and holidays. Plenty of parking in both lots and the ocean is clear. Sand is pretty soft and you have a forest that helps provide shade especially in the afternoon hours. It's on the Windward Side, so things can get a bit blustery at times. Also a great place to camp out at and get away from the huge crowds in Waikiki. read more

This is a gorgeous beach. It has very fine, soft sand which is quite a contrast to the coarse sand in Waikiki. Very few visitors, so you can enjoy your beach day privately. A true gem on the island. read more

It was nice to get away from the country passed all the other beaches along the way to Waimanalo. The ocean was so blue. Beach was not so crowded. There were some over night campers. While eating lunch at the picnic table, it was so windy and chilly that I couldn't handle it. We drove to the beach access that my friend has never been too. There is no parking lot so people were parking on the side of road by fence that was across the houses. It was actually at the end of Sherwoods Forest Beach. There was a restroom. If you're not a local, you might have some difficulty finding this beach. It's not on the North Shore (where Haleiwa is) and it's not on the South Shore (where Waikiki is). It's in Waimanalo, a rural district on the island of Oahu! This beach is actually named Waimanalo Bay. You can find a sign with this name (Waimanalo Bay Beach Park) at the entrance, across from the Honolulu Polo Club. "Sherwoods" (the local term) is next to Bellows Air Force base. Once you get there, you'll see why the nickname of this beach is Sherwoods. It looks like a forest (as in Sherwood Forest) with all of the pine trees. It's quiet and cool in the shade, with a constant breeze flowing across the ocean, beach, and forest! There are many free parking spaces. Just drive along the paved road and take your pick! After you walk past the restroom building and through the trees, a vast expanse of off-white sand, turquoise waters, and fluffy white clouds in a baby blue sky will greet you! Look towards the left and see the lifeguard stand and feel a sense of safety. Look to your right and enjoy a clear view of Rabbit Island! Remember to bring your towel, sunscreen, and boogie board! There's an outdoor shower, so you'll feel right at home! Bring your family and have a picnic in the fresh air! This is why Hawaii is known as paradise! read more

My sister in law look up waimanalo beach at first, but we wanted a beach that didn't have a lot of people so we end up here. It's connected to waimanalo beach. I had so much fun at this beach because of the waves. Every time it comes closer to me I jump with the wave. It would have been more fun if I bought a mini surf board. Next time I'll bring one. I spent about 1 hour in the water. It rained for a few minutes but that didn't stop me from being in the water. I would recommend this beach if you like the waves!! The sand inside the water is so soft you don't need water shoes. I love this beach!!! read more

During the summer and this bitch is thebest. clear with the bathroom and sufficient parking. During the winter waves are huge great for body surfing boogie boarding and surfing. Beware of the Portuguese man of war after the full moon and remember this is not a lifeguard Area. The current and the waves can be dangerous insuring the winter so take caution. read more

How can you not appreciate the natural beauty of this beach?! This is a great spot for beach days and BBQs. Located in Waimanalo, the beach is close to the main road and places to buy food and drink! The water is usually pretty manageable for swimming, body-boarding, etc. the beach stretches for a couple of miles and what makes Sherwoods unique is the trees. They give some shade and provide a great background for pictures. I also love the rope swings! read more

I loved this beach. It's not one of those tourist beaches. There were not too many people there but there were a lot of Man o wars. I didn't get stung but 3 of my friends did. While walking along the shore we saw two weddings. Must be a popular place to get married. Parking is easy to find but finding your way to the beach through the houses is a little interesting. I'd come back. Pro tip: on your way there, there is a McDonald's that serves TARO pastries. read more

This whole stretch of beach in east Oahu is some of the most remarkable on the island. Generally gentle waves, gorgeous sand and lots of parking. These attributes make it very popular as you would imagine. Family friendly place! Make sure you stop somewhere nearby before you get there to get your beach food and drinks. There are many local shops close by the area - there's been somewhat of a remaking of them and they are worth your time (next to McDonalds). Sherwoods Beach is one of my favorite beaches because it is so vast. It spans far and wide with panoramic views. Another thing is that the sand is so fine and soft both in and out of the water. A few negatives are that jellyfish like to hang out here, and sometimes the restrooms are closed when they should be open. Parking is not too hard to find most of the time with two parking lots. The journey to the beach takes a little bit of time from where you park though. Still, Sherwood Beach is perfect for sunbathing, beach volleyball, barbecuing, or swimming (if there are no jellyfish). read more

The beach here is gorgeous. Big enough where it doesnt feel crowded, free parking and amazing clear blue water. If you're into boogie boarding then this is probably the place to be. Saw a lot of people doing it when we were there and the waves broke a lot closer to shore so you dont have to paddle far. There were a lot of engagement photos being taken at this beach and even one wedding. Theres bathrooms and a rinse off area. There were no coral or rocks so you dont have to worry about getting hurt when in the water. Honestly, I think this is the perfect beach. It's not close to Waikiki but its definitly worth the drive and it's also a beautiful drive. read more

BEAUTIFUL! I took maternity photos here - starting at 730 AM and it was dead - which is perfect. It was quiet and just gorgeous. I wish I knew of this place sooner. I prefer this over the busy beaches like Waikiki Beach. The day I was there, there were lots of tiny little jelly fish - so be careful if you plan on getting in the water! The absolute best beach we visited in Hawaii. We had a wedding there off to the side of the crowds, and we went back and hung out for the day. Both experiences were amazing. The water is a beautiful turquoise and the views are amazing. We had the wedding during the week and it was very quiet. We went back very early on a Saturday and by the time we left around noon, it was very busy (but still much less crowded than Lanikai or Kailua Beach). Quite different experiences, but I'd recommend it anytime. It's just too beautiful to miss! read more

If you are interested in getting away from the touristy beaches this is the place to go - we stumbled upon this after going to Sea Life and was really pleasantly surprised. A police officer recommended it when we were looking for a better Beach for boogie boarding. The beaches in Waikiki didn't have nice waves near our hotel. One warning - beware of jelly fish - my nephew got stun. The sting will cause itching and pain for about 20 minutes if you don't have a severe reaction. If you plan to go - safe to bring vinegar - locals say it counteracts the acidity of the sting. We carried a bottle around for the rest of our trip - was only $1.70 so no sweat. Another nice thing - the water did not have a rocky bottom like the ones in Waikiki. We had to get water shoes during our trip because of the rocks. You don't need to worry about that at Sherwoods. Next time we are back in Honolulu - this place is a must. As we drove back to Waikiki- we stopped at Sandy Beach for food as there were several food trucks there. This beach is breathtakingly beautiful when there's not a lot of people around lol. My honey and I decided upon an intimate wedding on this particular beach. Mostly locals busy themselves here with their friends and family, and on occasion there will be a good amount of tourists. With my luck it was more packed on the day we tied the knot then any other weekend. I guess they wanted to celebrate with us;). The photographer did her best to not get people walking and laying around in the sand in our photos. There were other brides as well captivating their moment on this wondrous beach. The water was crystal blue with clean tan sand between our toes. I closed my eyes and breathed in the ocean air. Ahh no pollution nature at its best with just the waves crashing onto the beach. We walked a little towards the forest area once we were done documenting our smiles, kiss, hugs, and vows by the water. The trees were unique, incredible, and enormous. We needed some of those in our wedding album. The views from the forest to the beach were indescribable. Maybe I am being bias since we got married here;) Mother nature blessed Hawaii. Thank god we were brought together after five years to begin and create our first memory as a unit becoming husband and wife on Sherwood beach. read more
