The beauty of the beach cove is five stars, but safety was not good, so I take one star out. Yes, adults should be fine with carefully mind but kids and people with conditions should have someone to consult with them. No safeguard down here, wave is very strong. The area that has lots of rock is very dangerous, even it looks safe and gorgeous it is very slippery and sharp. The wave will suck you out easily then you have to crew back to save your life on that type of rock so YOU MUST BE CAREFUL with your jewelry! The water can suck out all of your belonging on you body if you wear to the water! I know it is sound stupid if anyone will wear jewelry to the beach but believe it or not my husband lost his wedding ring and his pinky ring at the cove. Another girl that walked down with us also lost her rings and bracelet too. I talk to a group of local who was there, one of them lost their necklace in the past at this place. My husband tried to go back but I stopped him. It isn't worth at all to risk of your life for it. It is just the object even his value for our story, but I won't trade anything for his life. It was sad and disappointed, and my husband blame himself to made that such a wrong decision, but I take it as an exchange you lost something but safe the most valuable. From the pictures you will see the area that most people are enjoy, it is the area on the right of the beach that next to the cove and the surface at the bottom is flat and only sand. The area is safer to enjoy this beach but as I mentioned about the wave, you must be mindful of your own safety. Beauty right before your eyes! The name of this cove is very deceiving. How can anyone name something so beautiful after something so... yucky?! Beats me, but I didn't see not one cockroach on this beach. In fact, what I saw was a gorgeous aqua beach cove which the cleanest water waves. Luckily, this place goes by two other names which sound way more appealing (Halona Beach Cove and Eternity Beach). Cockroach cove is a small beach cove that's located between the Halona Blowhole and Hanauma Bay. Although it's small, it's super popular with both locals and tourists alike. Since the blowhole is so close to the cove, people like to come here to take pictures. It's also a great spot to snorkel as the water is super clear and shallow. It's a popular spot for swimming too (of course). Getting down to the cove requires a super short but steepish decent down jagged rocks. There's a parking lot (the Halona Blowhole parking lot) that fills up pretty quickly. However, since most people just comes to see the views of the blowhole, many people come and leave throughout the day making it easy to find a parking spot at times. Although there was a small crowd of people when I was here, it's waaay less crowded than nearby Hanauma Bay. The water here is just as stunning too. If you have time to trek down to this cove, do it. It's breathtaking and it surely deserves a visit. read more

OUR FAVORITE BEACH!! So peaceful and so much to do, you can watch the Halona Blowhole, do some small cliff jumps into the cove, explore the volcanic rock formations, lay on the beach, checkout the cave, or take a dip in the ocean! Worth the small climb down to the cove every time. There's many names for the beach such as "Halona Beach Cove", "From Here To Eternity Beach", and of course "Cockroach Cove". While the parking lot isn't very big and this isn't a secret place anymore, you can sometimes get a spot right when you arrive even on the weekends. read more

Super fun spot to jump in the water, snorkel, rock climb, or explore. It's just a small cove right off the freeway beside Halona Blowhole Lookout. Pretty small, and often has a lot of people around, but really neat if you haven't been. Known for being a filming location for part of Pirates of the Caribbean (don't ask what part or which movie because Im not sure), lots of people go here to swim. However, my fiancé and I just tried the spotlight activity: adventuring through the cave. The cave goes from the rock ledge in the middle of the beach, under the highway, and out of the rocks to the other side. It gets progressively smaller until you pretty much need to crawl at the end or you will bash your head on overhead rock projections. Once side of the cave is a sandy beach, while the other side is super green, full of vegetation and bushes and rock formations, and flowers. There is an overgrown trail once you go through the cave that leads back up to the freeway. Pretty neat! You can also climb up several rocky slopes to catch better views, but make sure you have the right shoes because it will be slippery and wild. It was a lot of fun, and I would love to go again! Word of advice to the excited reader of this review: if you want to go through the cave, have some sort of light. If you want to climb up the rocky ledge on the other side of the cave, have sufficient shoes for climbing. Otherwise, the overgrown trail on the other side is easy to trek with slippers. This beach is somewhat hidden and I probably wouldn't have spotted it without my cousins taking me here. Walking down to it was like going down giant stairs so it wasn't bad at all but if you're bringing little kids with you be careful. As you're walking down it looks so beautiful already and it kind of looks like a mini private beach. When I went around 6pm the tides were pretty strong but it was perfect if you wanted to jump off the little cliffs on the side. The sand here is so soft and small so getting it off is such a pain. I also noticed that out of all the beaches I visited during my trip this one had the coldest water, but I mean it was still way warm compared to the beaches in California. read more

Get here early so you can find parking. It's best to go on a week day to avoid large crowds. The hike down the cliff looks scarier than it actually is, but at least make sure your slippers have decent traction. There are no bathrooms, so be in your swim clothes before you leave the house. There are no shady spots either, so bring a hat if you burn easily and enough sun block to reapply. Always pack water. The waves can get very choppy and they will suck you in. If you're not a strong swimmer, stay very close to shore and avoid the wave breaks. Bring a snorkel mask as there's a nice underwater rocky area for you to fish watch, but only if you can swim. There's a place where you can jump off the rocks into the water. Make sure you wait for the wave to come before jumping. Last time I was there, this guy broke his leg because he jumped in before the wave came. People had to help carry him up the cliff with him crying the whole way. Don't be that guy. If you want to just stay on the beach, there's a cave in the rocks that you can go through that leads to the other side of the rocks. Not recommended if you have back or knee problems as you will be crouching through most of the cave, then duck walking towards the exit. Do not go barefoot because stupid people have littered the cave with trash, glass bottles, and piss on the rocks. Either take a flashlight or your use your cell phone's flashlight app as it's pitch black with minor obstacles. What beautiful wonders await you on the other side? Weeds, graffiti, and more rocks. So apparently, this secret beach is known as Cockroach Cove AND Eternity Beach. It's located next to the famous Halona Blow Hole. It is absolutely beautiful here. You do need to enter from the side where the "Do Not Pass" sign is (haha). You do need to climb some rocks to enter and exit the beach but it's worth it! Also, I think it's a great spot because it's not crowded. The best thing about this exclusive beach is that you can jump off the side of the rocks because the water is deep enough, however, you should still proceed doing so with caution because the tide strength can always change! I would recommend this place if you'd like to spend the day relaxed with your friends/family away from big crowds. read more

Nice relaxing spot. Not crowded like Waikiki Beach. The water is clear and waves are not overbearing. So non swimmers like me also can enjoy the beach. I went on a week day very few people on the beach. The weekend is a different story. Cockroach Cove is located between Sandy and Hanauma. You have to walk down (a mini hike) to get to the beach. The only thing I witnessed are stupid tourist (Older adults) and/or baby boomer tourist going down the wrong path and had to be rescued by Sandy Beach lifeguards. Ask or follow the path that everyone takes to get to the beach. There are no restrooms, but only a cove that you can change in or be already to go when you arrive. read more

Absolutely fabulous! Go on a calm day. Light wind is best. Weekends and holidays can be crowded. Go week days early. So worth it!

to get here youll need to find parking right by the blowhole parking lot, which is difficult cause alot of tourist there. took me and my friends 10-15mins to find parking. after theres a little hike youll need to do to get to the cove, not that hard at all but going back up could be. the beach/cove is small and when its busy, youll have a hard time finding a spot to lay down. though it could be awkward laying down next to a stranger that close to you cause the space is soo small. no showers, bathrooms whatsoever so id suggest you drive to sandys to use them afterwards. read more

I love this place! 20+ years ago, it was our little secret. We would be the only ones here, but I hear tourist are brought in by the bus loads... I don't think I like that too much, but as long as they respect the land and keep it clean then I guess it's ok to share the beauty. It's a little hike down and then back up, but so worth it! The little opening to get out to the open water can get a little rough with the waves, so if you're like me and can't swim, there's little pockets I call the kiddie pools where you can hang out and still play in the water :) read more

This beach is just right of the Blow Hole. People are no longer permitted to go down there by the city and county of Honolulu. People are not following the rule and still going. Soon there could be a fine imposed if people don't start listining. read more
