This is a nice stretch of beach for walking with companions (human and/or canine) or relaxing with a book. I think this area of the ocean may be for stronger swimmers; it looks like the bottom is of wading height until further out toward the ocean. There are no lifeguard posts and the waves can get pretty choppy on windy days. We see more kiteboarders/kitesurfers than swimmers. This is perfect for folks who wish to get fresh air but away from crowds, esp during covid time. We also always see people fishing, maybe next time I'll ask what for! If you walk far enough (which isn't very far) you will reach Waialae Beach Park where you can take care of business! There are security cameras on the bathroom buildings. There are shower areas inside and outside and the water pressure is quite strong. I was told there is toilet paper too! Beach access is via several points along Kahala Avenue, where you can also find plentiful parking. Alternatively, I suppose you could park at Waialae Beach Park. #40

Visited a friend that lives in the neighborhood. No parking lot available so it was convenient that it was a short walk. Clean secluded beach. Lots of locals walking their dogs. There's a short ladder available to get to the beach.

This is a small beach, with very little space for hanging out in the sand. We were able to snag a spot because people were on their way out. It is nice and secluded and had nice views of Kahala. The water isn't too deep, and I was able to go in slightly and sit down. There are a lot of rocks below, so beware when walking around in the water. We found residential parking really close to the entrance.

So of course being a dog mom, I had to bring my baby boy here to test the waters and he loved it! The waters were calm and the people were friendly. I love coming out to this beach and looking at all the houses that I'm one day going to own (speak it into existence sis!) I can see why everyone loves this beach; calm waters, nice breeze and beautiful view. There is ample street parking but of course you need to walk to get to the entrances which I don't mind, again I love the houses. There are a lot of tourist which I don't mind, I love meeting new people. And then there's dogs, if your dog isn't friendly with other dogs, please keep them on a leash, but if they are friendly, there is many dogs for them to meet and play with (my little man loved it) When there is a high tide, there may not be enough room to lay out so just be sure to check before heading out Family and dog friendly A+

I did a little scouting this past week, as I was looking for a beach called - "Hunakai Beach". The main reason why I decided to come here? Well, I wanted to take my furry son - "Makana" here, but before I did that, I just wanted to make sure it was safe for him, as well as making sure the beach was clean. The verdict? What a beautiful beach!!! The beach is hidden in the Kahala neighborhood. To find it, you will have look for some signs (see pics) which show public access to the beach. If I'm correct, there are two public access lanes which lead to the beach. The beach itself is beautiful (see pics), very clean, with while sands, and clear blue water. I guess not too many people know about this place, so the beach is pretty unspoiled. If you do decide to visit this beach, please be respectful to the neighbors when you cut through the public access lanes to get to the beach..........you know, don't make too much noise while cutting through the lane, & don't throw rubbish in the lane. When you visit the beach, remember to please clean up after yourself to keep this beautiful beach clean! When I went here this past week, I was told by some of my friends that it was a dog friendly beach..........and that is the main reason why I looked for this beach. Now that I have scouted out this beach, I won't be too hesitant to take my furry son here so he can enjoy the beach too. TIP - There is no private parking lot for this beach, so you will have to find parking on the street. There is ample street parking within the Kahala neighborhood, so finding parking is not an issue.

At the end of Hunakai Street is Kahala's best kept secret - a uncrowded white sand beach where dogs can walk and swim their owners. There are no bathrooms or showers in the area, but there is a lot of street parking available and open areas on the sand for a nice picnic or sunbathe. If you bring a dog, remember to keep it on a leash and pick up after it. Help keep this beach clean and safe for everyone.

My ultimate favorite beach! Clean water. Small beach. Dog friendly. Just bring your chair or not and just enjoy the view. Find a shade or get some sun! It's so perfect

So I read that this is one of the best beaches. I am biased because I'm a north shore girl. But maybe if you mean only to bring your dog? Or maybe to just sit and tan? For me, it was nice for my boyfriend and I to set up our chairs and chill but we tried to go into the water and swim and we're met with many rocks under our feet. The shoreline is also very thin, you have enough room to sit and whoever is walking passed you has to walk in the water and on some parts not even enough room to sit without the water hitting you. Where we sat was a nice little U shaped area to the left of entering from Hunakai. Nice thing! I totally agree with parking, we parked one block up on the Hunakai access point, super easy. And it is pretty and relaxing but not for swimming in my opinion or for a group of people. I'm also a north shore girl and we were on this side to swim after hiking kuliouou ridge and me being Hapa got a little burnt and wanted somewhere with shade. This time of year hunakai beach provided that :)

Hands down my favorite beach we visited in our vacation. Clean water, very secluded, and not too crowded. If youre looking to snorkel this would be the beach to do so. My girlfriend and I floated around and swam a bit while we dove to look for under water life. Definitely recommend a 10/10 if youre looking to venture away from the touristy Waikiki Beaches.

Beautiful little beach with some cozy grassy areas perfect for a picnic. If there is a parking lot, I didn't see it. Beautiful private homes have this beach as their backyard, so you just have to drive along the street until you find an alley way to access the beach. Mind the dog poop though.

Hubby and I have been going for a lot of jogs/walks trying to take better care of our health. When we are in the area, I always love to stop by this tiny beach to just watch the waves, write in the sand, climb a few rocks and just admire the peaceful atmosphere. The only thing I don't like about this beach, is there's a LOT of flies! Especially when you walk down the little pathway to get to the beach. We never stay too long anyway, so as long as you keep your mouth closed, it's ok LOL. I will honestly say this isn't going to be the most beautiful beach you'll see on Oahu, but it still manages to be pretty high on my list of beaches to go to. Why you may ask? Because the parking is always plentiful (you could pretty much park anywhere on Kahala Ave. and walk through any of the beach accesses, or park in the lot at the end of the road right before you enter the Kahala Hotel grounds) and it's the most dog-friendly beach I know of in town. Because it's hidden behind huge mansions and just far away enough from Waikiki, there won't be a whole lot of tourists here if any, and you get an awesome view of Hawaii Kai and Koko Head. Beware though, the beach pretty much disappears when the tides are high and it does get pretty rocky and mossy at some parts making it difficult to swim! But if you can deal with that, then definitely worth checking out this hidden gem of a beach :)

One of my fave beach on Oahu!! Sometimes there are a lot of people then sometimes if you're at luck - deserted!! Hardly ever big waves so if you have young kids this place is perfect! Many beach access alleys to get to the beach, on hunakai street!

    Beautiful secluded beach

It was a little crowded but not as bad as some other beaches. Was clean and the water was beautiful.

There is free parking at the blowhole lot and you will see this cove along the east side of the island. The view may look familiar as it was the site for filming in "From Here to Eternity" and it has also been used for a few other movies and TV shows since then. The view is beautiful and waters are usually a pale turquoise. It is a bit of a tortuous hike to climb down the cliff to get to the beach for this cove. Definitely wear water shoes or foot protection as there are sharp volcanic rocks that create the cove. The water can be rough. The depth of the water steps down quickly, so I wouldn't recommend it for weak swimmers or small children. Nevertheless, it is beautiful scene of another Oahu beach. If you walk to more to the southside of this area you will have the fun to see the natural blowhole as the tides come in and out. Once again, make sure to have decent shoes to get there. Makes for some great photos or videos so it is definitely worth the adventure. For those that are not physically able to make the hike or climb, the vista is beautiful by itself. There are definitely a fair share of tourists and locals who come here, but it is much less than the Waikiki crowd. You will need a car to get here from Waikiki. I recommend you experience this spot at least once on your visit to Oahu.
