Take a drive south past Waikiki along the shore and you will eventually see the signs for this beach. There is free parking at the blowhole lot and you will see this cove along the east side of the island. The view may look familiar as it was the site for filming in "From Here to Eternity" and it has also been used for a few other movies and TV shows since then. The view is beautiful and waters are usually a pale turquoise. It is a bit of a tortuous hike to climb down the cliff to get to the beach for this cove. Definitely wear water shoes or foot protection as there are sharp volcanic rocks that create the cove. The water can be rough. The depth of the water steps down quickly, so I wouldn't recommend it for weak swimmers or small children. Nevertheless, it is beautiful scene of another Oahu beach. If you walk to more to the southside of this area you will have the fun to see the natural blowhole as the tides come in and out. Once again, make sure to have decent shoes to get there. Makes for some great photos or videos so it is definitely worth the adventure. For those that are not physically able to make the hike or climb, the vista is beautiful by itself. There are definitely a fair share of tourists and locals who come here, but it is much less than the Waikiki crowd. You will need a car to get here from Waikiki. I recommend you experience this spot at least once on your visit to Oahu. read more

The beauty of the beach cove is five stars, but safety was not good, so I take one star out. Yes, adults should be fine with carefully mind but kids and people with conditions should have someone to consult with them. No safeguard down here, wave is very strong. The area that has lots of rock is very dangerous, even it looks safe and gorgeous it is very slippery and sharp. The wave will suck you out easily then you have to crew back to save your life on that type of rock so YOU MUST BE CAREFUL with your jewelry! The water can suck out all of your belonging on you body if you wear to the water! I know it is sound stupid if anyone will wear jewelry to the beach but believe it or not my husband lost his wedding ring and his pinky ring at the cove. Another girl that walked down with us also lost her rings and bracelet too. I talk to a group of local who was there, one of them lost their necklace in the past at this place. My husband tried to go back but I stopped him. It isn't worth at all to risk of your life for it. It is just the object even his value for our story, but I won't trade anything for his life. It was sad and disappointed, and my husband blame himself to made that such a wrong decision, but I take it as an exchange you lost something but safe the most valuable. From the pictures you will see the area that most people are enjoy, it is the area on the right of the beach that next to the cove and the surface at the bottom is flat and only sand. The area is safer to enjoy this beach but as I mentioned about the wave, you must be mindful of your own safety. This beach is like a beautiful flower that draw the insect but also very dangerous. read more

Went surfing and Boogie Boarding in the ocean lol. Well, my girlfriend actually knows how to surf. She learned when she was swimming in the beaches of Tele viv when she was a little girl. So she has been teaching me how to surf a little bit. Love the rocks and coves at Halona Beach. Clean sand and nice big waves. Less crowds come to this beach. So, its not the biggest tourists attraction, but its a good one. read more

This magical place! Halona Beach Cove goes by a few different names (Eternity Beach and Cockroach Cove), but they are all one in the same. This stunning cove is located just below the famous Halona Blowhole and right outside of the ever so popular Hanauma Bay Preserve. It can be accessed from a short but steep set of stairs that lead from the Halona Blowhole Lookout parking lot. Once you're down there, it'll feel like you're in another world. The cove has some of the most clearest water that I've ever seen. If you're admiring the cove from the viewpoint, you'll instantly notice its' signature aqua hues. Since it's a cove, the sandy portion of the cove seems to stay a lot warmer than your typical beach. However, the wind from the coastal bluffs is really strong here, making for significant waves and a fun place to swim. Because the water is so clear, you will find many people snorkeling and deep sea diving right from the cliffs. It's also pretty shallow so you'll witness many people swimming. On the rocky sides of the cove, you'll be able to enjoy some great views of the Halona Blowhole and the beautiful sights and sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks. Although this is a popular spot, it still remains very peaceful. You'll be able to find a nice spot to relax and admire the cove. The views are absolutely magnificent here, and it feels like something straight out of a magazine. You can capture some amazing photos here. Such a lovely spot and an excellent alternative to the nearby pricey and often overcrowded Hanauma Bay. read more

HAWAII 2020 ADVENTURES #11 - FROM HERE TO ETERNITY A former coworker commented to me that I have an "old soul" due to my fondness of old, classic movies. Most movies today will be dated however classic movies stay fresh. Two years ago I visited Hawaii for the first time. Prior to my trip I read the novel "From Here To Eternity". In fact when I was in the Big Island at the condominium I was staying I watched the movie version on TCM during Memorial Day Weekend. The most talked about scene from the movie was the love scene between Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr at Halona Beach Cove. I wasn't sure when I would visit Oahu again but I bookmarked this beach on my bucket list. This year I came back to Hawaii where I stayed at Oahu for 2 days. I visited to this beach on the day before Thanksgiving. That day was also my last day in Hawaii before I flew back to the mainland. When I arrived at Halona Beach Cove I was shocked that the beach was at the bottom of the lookout. I couldn't tell that from the movie. To get to the beach you have to walk on sandy, rocky slope. I didn't have difficulty walking down. However I couldn't imagine in 1953 how the cameramen would carry their equipment. The beach isn't big. Even though the body of water isn't big as normal beaches the current is quite strong. This beach is an underrated place to swim due to the small beach, which means this area won't be overcrowded. From my perspective if you want a peaceful time to yourself the best time to go to this beach is early morning just after sunrise. As my former coworker said, "I have an old soul." I'm not ashamed to admit it. Yet for a small beach why do old and young people drive to Halona Beach Cove? Mostly it's because of that famous movie of 1953 that won the Oscar for Best Picture. If I go back to Oahu I'll come to this beach again to swim and unwind. Hopefully there still be a young Deborah Kerr look-a-like waiting for me. read more

Hi guys! I cannot believe I never went to this spot before: For those of you who have not been to this fun little cove if you are interested in checking out this spot make sure to get there early and check tides/weather beforehand. Parking is hard to find if you get there late morning so make sure to plan on getting there early. Wear hiking shoes since there is a rocky walk down to the cove. I found it easier hike down to the beach cove by using the right side area for the hike down rather than hiking down the left side but the walk back up is a breeze. Down at the cove there is a rocky area with dusty gray/black rocks, a sandy area, a cave and of course a beautiful beach area with undeniably clear blue waters. Would I suggest this spot for a rookie swimmer for purpose of swimming? Not sure about that there are other areas with calmer bodies of water. Would I recommend this place for dipping your feet in, enjoying a gorgeous peaceful and serene view of mountains, clear blue water and a cool blowhole? Absolutely! Just beautiful. I think this was the highlight of our trip. We actually didn't even know what this was but just happened to drive past it and found it. Loved swimming in it and there is a small cave thing as well. Tip: Don't swim too far or you will get sucked in and could die... The waves are strong and you could hit a rock. Pro Tip: Bring a towel! The most prettiest and bluest water i have ever seen. This beach is like a hidden treasure. Its small, kind of like your own private beach. Many people come here to watch the blow hole on the other side. When the waves aren't so rough there's a tiny cave under the rocks. There's also a an exit/entrance cave behind one of the rocks. Waves come pretty strong from the side, its fun to jump off from one of the rocks.. just be careful. I definitely loved this beach it was so quiet and beautiful. read more

You'll reconotice this beach in 50 First Dates, or From Here to Eternity(which is why its also called Eternity Beach). On a very nice day, you can score one of the best spots to soak up the sun. Halona Beach Cove is a very scenic spot with crystal clear water with a cool spot to jump off of , have some honu(sea turtle) sightings and you can even do a little bodysurfing too.To get down to the cove, you must brave the "Stairs to Eternity". There are no railings, and use caution when going up or down to avoid serious injury. As beautiful as HBC is, there may also be hazardous conditions. Don't be that stupid haole(tourist) and think you're Michael Phelps and jump into the rip currents!!! (This idiot was VERY lucky to swim out of it!) Another note to all visitors...as much as you want that picture perfect shot to show all your folks back home, DO NOT TURN YOUR BACK TO MOTHER OCEAN!!!!(Unless you want to be swept out to sea and possibly end up on the evening news) people were getting very close to the ledge, and the water was pretty rough... As we were chowing on some Char Hung Sut action, we watched another idiot in bikini and flip flops climb the jagged wall to the top which was very stupid and pointless, but luckily she didn't get hurt either....enjoy your time here, just don't do stupid things that could get you injured or killed!...ALOHA!!!!! read more

Probably my favorite spot on O'ahu. A friend and I stopped at the Halona Blowhole Lookout and I noticed there was nobody down in the beach cove. Although my friend didn't want to make the hike down to the beach, I managed to convince her (honestly, it's NOT bad at all) and we got the cove all to ourselves. Honestly, I don't really care either way about the fact that this spot is often used as a location in movies or video shoots - although you can see why location scouts or whatnot would be attracted to this spot. All I know is that it's a beautiful little cove and I would have LOVED to spend more time there. If I ever get back to O'ahu? I know one of the first places I'm going. :) read more

We parked at the blowhole parking lot and walked down here. It is really so pretty. The current is really strong though so I wouldn't swim here. But, just to be here is really nice. Ok I would go in the water, but I would definitely be careful with children. Don't underestimate the water. Located right next to the Halona Blowhole, the Halona Beach Cove is now one of my favorite spots in Hawaii. I've been to the blowhole before (the last time I visited Hawaii, which was 5 years ago). How did I miss the cove last time?? I have no idea. You don't understand, this cove is so beautiful! There's a small hike down to the beach itself. But it's oh-so worth it! Different shades of blue water contrasted by dark brown rocks. BREATHTAKING, just breathtaking. Even the sand was beautiful! Large grains of pale sand. Too bad the water was chilly the day we were there. It would've been nice to have a beach day there. It's very private. Well, except the fact that people visiting the blowhole can look down and see you. So, it's private enough. If you plan to stop by the blowhole, make sure to go down to the cove! read more

The little cave in the corner would be cool, except it smells like pee, I think homeless people must hang out in there. The tide pools here are awesome! There's a small cave that goes through the sea cliff, too- I suggest bringing a headlamp or flashlight!

Literally one of my favorite coves here on the island. the day we went, we were the only ones there. It felt so private and the water was a bit choppy. However, we brought a packed lunch and just decided to enjoy the views. Also called Cockroach Cove and Eternity Beach (one of several by the same name). Super fun spot to jump in the water, snorkel, rock climb, or explore. It's just a small cove right off the freeway beside Halona Blowhole Lookout. Pretty small, and often has a lot of people around, but really neat if you haven't been. Known for being a filming location for part of Pirates of the Caribbean (don't ask what part or which movie because Im not sure), lots of people go here to swim. However, my fiancé and I just tried the spotlight activity: adventuring through the cave. The cave goes from the rock ledge in the middle of the beach, under the highway, and out of the rocks to the other side. It gets progressively smaller until you pretty much need to crawl at the end or you will bash your head on overhead rock projections. Once side of the cave is a sandy beach, while the other side is super green, full of vegetation and bushes and rock formations, and flowers. There is an overgrown trail once you go through the cave that leads back up to the freeway. Pretty neat! You can also climb up several rocky slopes to catch better views, but make sure you have the right shoes because it will be slippery and wild. It was a lot of fun, and I would love to go again! Word of advice to the excited reader of this review: if you want to go through the cave, have some sort of light. If you want to climb up the rocky ledge on the other side of the cave, have sufficient shoes for climbing. Otherwise, the overgrown trail on the other side is easy to trek with slippers. Have fun and take chances! read more

I have vacay'd on this island several times and I love going to this beach the most. I like to pull the From Here To Eternity pose every time. It's the Hollywood starlet screaming to get out! Kinda treacherous to get down to, but totally worth the hike. Sea turtles inhabit this area, too, so one swam up on me and almost gave me a heart attack!!! Damn that guy could swim fast. Quiet, beautiful and lots of fun rocks to jump off of into the great blue water. Bring your camera to take pix and snacks, cuz they don't have a snack bar or civilazation anywhere near. read more

Nice little hidden gem between the blowhole and lighthouse hike. You have to hike down here, but bring your boogie board or snorkel gear! The grains from the black rocks makes black sand mixed with the white sand. You can climb on the rocks and jump in the water. When we were there, we saw a pregnant woman with a dog and girl doing yoga on the rocks for a photo shoot. It was beautiful! PS This is the spot that was in the one scene of 50 First Dates after Henry (Sandler) knocks himself out golfing and dreams he is walking down to get his golf ball and Lucy (Barrymore) is there holding it walking, toward him. read more

Just another beautiful place to hang out at when visiting Oahu. Nice little cove where you can go for a dip or suntan. I usually walk around the cove and watch the waves, the blowhole or honu swimming in the ocean. Really a beautiful place! When we first arrived on island and drove to the blow hole, we saw a nice handful of people down at the cove and honestly, I was too scared to go down. Even if you're a tourist, don't be afraid, you're missing out on something beautiful. This beach is also known as Eternity beach, since that movie from here to eternity was filmed here. Parking is ample since its in the same area as the blow hole parking. If you're facing the water, there is the "stairs to eternity" on the right, over the small wall, which is more of just a jagged path down to the cove. When crossing over, it is not dangerous but just be careful. There is a lot of broken glass and such scattered along the path of rubble and rocks. Take your time and before you know it you'll be at the beach. The beach itself is gorgeous, and when you're down there it is never crowded and feels like its your own private hidden beach. We have climbed over the right hand rocks onto the other side, but only when the water is placid. Otherwise those rocks might be a little dangerous since they are wet and there is no real footing. If you go to the left towards the blow hole, its flatter and safer than the rocks on the right, but it could be dangerous at the blow hole itself. Just use your best judgement and don't mess with the rocks/water if it looks dangerous. read more

My absolute favorite beach in O'ahu - just beating Kailua! The beach is absolutely beautiful. On a high tide day there are fun waves to body surf. On a chill day it's like a magical pool where you can just swim, dive in from the rocks and enjoy. Absolutely stunning beach. Park either at Sandy Beach and walk over the blowholes or park at the lookout (scenic view) and hike down the right side to the cove. Super easy short hike. read more

Gorgeous place! When I first showed up it was pretty crowded, but over time people started to leave. Some people came to swim, others to tan on the beach, and the rest just to take pictures on the rocks and near the water. Stepping into the water I was quickly knocked over by a giant wave. But not all waves were as bad. My one advice is to stay away from people. Even though I had got my balance and new how to swim through a wave, others who were less fortunate were getting pulled in the current and had hit me multiple times. I would suggest bringing snorkels and goggles because I did see a turtle, but without goggles I couldn't really see it well (only when it poked it head out of the water did I see it clearly). Even if you're not into swimming this place is great to relax and walk along the rocks for great pictures. There were a lot of hermit crabs on the rocks and it's always fun to play with those little guys. Overall great and fun place just to chill and relax (or to get smacked by waves and people). The hike down isn't too vigorous and I did see people climbing all over the other rocks and cliffs (if you have sensitive feet like mines bring good foot wear to climb the rocks). read more
