    Mango Romance

Came here with a group of friends to try out this newly opened mango dessert place Hui Lau Shan. Apparently it is a famous store in Hong Kong and their products use premium Carabao Mangoes. They have a huge selection of drinks, desserts and snacks. Here are some of the items we ordered. Desserts: Mango Mochi Mango Crisp Mango Pancake Mango Pudding Mango Romance Jumbo Pomelo & Mango with Sago Mango Coconut Duo Mix Red Bean Chewy Ball Mango Coconut Noodle Drinks: Mango & Coconut Juice with Aloe Jelly Mango & Coconut Juice with Mango Jelly Mango & Pomelo with Sago Mango Slush Popcorn Milk Pudding Strawberry with Cheese Milk Top Fresh Fruit Oolong Strawberry Crystal Jelly Icy Grapefruit Jasmine Green Tea Bird's Nest & Honey Jelly in Watermelon Although this place is really about their mangoes, I only took the Bird's Nest & Honey Jelly in Watermelon drink and taste a bit of my friend's Mango pudding. I lucked out on the mangoes, but I'm pretty sure it was delicious based on all my friends' expressions

Came here with friends as an alternative from bubble tea but still getting a bubble tea related drink. The pricing here is similar to the original Hong Kong one which is quite pricy but hey it's a nice treat yourself kind of place The aesthetic of the restaurant is quite cute and the tables are a nice marble white colour which makes the mango related items pop out I ordered one of their signature mango drinks with aloe and it was delicious

I love mango flavoured Asian desserts! Having heard of this train originating from Taiwan, it was cool to see it decided to land itself in Hamilton. The location is convenient, right on King Street, and it's a quaint location with a fair amount of space to sit. There's much to choose from, with drinks, sago desserts, and fruit bowls so there's something for everybody. I went for my safe choice of mango sago dessert. For $9, I wasn't super impressed with the quantity. The sago and tapioca balls were good in texture and there was fresh mango, but I didn't think there was anything truly spectacular about it. I was also excited to try their mango rolls. Wrapped in a thin pancake, I was mildly dissapointed to find it was filled with a flavorless whipped cream and very little mango in the centre. Again, for $9, I wasn't super impressed. It was a good attempt, as the pancake wrap was thing and fluffy. Overall, just a little overrated. It's decent as one of almost no Asian dessert places in Hamilton. Worth a try, but nothing special unfortunately.

Delicious! We loved this as an alternative to milk bubble tea. The coconut mango combination was really tasty, we recommend the mango coconut tapioca drink. The fresh mango is so flavourful. There is no option to change the sugar levels, but it isn't overly sweet. Cant wait to be back.

Very good selection of bubble tea, my teen daughter really likes it. Not a lot of traffic, everyone wears mask. We ordered watermelon one, it was pretty good.

A2 & A3 coconut mango with sago and coconut mango with aloe jelly

Honestly probably another one of my favourite bubbletea places now. The drinks were so fruity and light I could keep drinking them forever! The coconut mango drinks we got reminded me of Vietnamese desserts. Especially mine with the aloe jelly. It was absolutely delicious and I want to try so many more drinks from here! The place was also very clean open. Booths and tables were available if you wanted to stay to do work or chat. Or if you were bringing it to go, your drinks or desserts were put into a bag for you to go!

Great desserts. I have come here every 2-3 months for the past 2 years and the desserts are always top notch.

There is also a bubble tea menu which I hope to explore the next time I'm up this way. We ordered "a brownie thing" on a signature buttermilk waffle with vanilla ice cream. (They also offer green tea and charcoal ice cream flavors). As you can see in the photo, the waffle was a decent size and was enough to share (if that's what you so choose to do). The customer service was pretty good, the aroma of the fresh waffles was amazing and the interior was stylish and welcoming. I highly recommend!

There were maybe 2-3 other tables that were taken. It does seem like a really nice place to study. The place is clean, with soft lighting, and lots of outlets! We ordered a Belgian waffle, with soft serve ice cream, & the mango cheesecake as topping. The total came to $15 which was a little surprising. The food took a little longer than expected. But it came out looking great. The swirl was sesame & vanilla which had hints of both flavors; subtle and not too sweet but it was a little icey rather than creamy. The waffle was fluffy. I did not like the mango or the cheesecake as they tasted somewhat stale. Overall, I think for $15 it was pricey and I would prefer heading to Toronto for a egg waffle for $3 instead.

The place is well lit and clean. The service was quick. The place does seem to have some regulars that come in and out. My boyfriend and I got a Nutella waffle and original milk tea with tapioca. A little sad that the Nutella waffle didn't come with strawberries but does come with whip cream and your choice of (extensive) icecream. The waffle wasn't the fluffy kind but the more dense version. The Nutella was generous!!! The milk tea was average but still good. Next time I'll try their oolong milk tea for sure :) I'll definitely be back to try their crepes and different assorted desserts they have ! Parking is still somewhat of a hassle as free parking is limited.

Stepping into A&J Sugar Bowl, one instantly feels the overwhelming warmth brought in by colorful syrups on the shelf behind the counter and the wash of delight that waffle cones dotted with candies on display give you when you know you're about to take part in a guilty pleasure. The smell of toasted sugar brushes against your nose as you feel spoiled for choice. I first spotted A&J Sugar Bowl in the Winter and passed it many times on my way home from various destinations. I hadn't stepped foot in there until recently, Spring 2015. What I found delighted me to the core. Tables along one wall with a central table covered in board games, cartoons playing on the large flat screen of the parlor and an honest to goodness sweets counter displaying candies, ice cream flavors and a crepe stand. The little woman behind the counter with the soft voice and big smile, Nancy, added to the atmosphere. She was a little difficult to understand, being so soft spoken, but she understood exactly what I wanted when I ordered. The parlor has always been empty when I passed it, and it worried me, but considering that it was midnight and I only found it in the off season, It didn't bother me. I just wanted something chocolate related. I ordered a Nutella and banana crepe. It took about five minutes to make and was still toasty when it was served to me. I took a single bite and instantly asked, why is this place empty ever? From the taste to the atmosphere, A&J Sugar Bowl should be packed all the time. Then it dawned on me. It's in a part of downtown that isn't known for its good eats or entertainment. It's hidden away and it has no online presence. I urge all local Yelpers to hunt down Sugar Bowl and enjoy your favorite sweet here. Let's all make this place Hamilton's worst kept secret!

When I lived in Montreal, my go-to cupcake place (and probably my overall favourite cupcake shop) was D'Liche, which sadly didn't make it through the covid quarantine. In London, I enjoyed Chick Cake Boss and when I came to Hamilton, I went to Bitten. However, none quite lived up to D'Liche, or even the Cupcake Shoppe...until Beyond the Batter. One bite and I deemed it my new favourite cupcake place. I had been drooling over the flavour list for probably a week now and finally convinced my brother to go grab some. We ended up with an assortment of flavours that not only sound delicious but look lovely. Work fast though because my brother got to the shop about 2.5 hours after they opened and a few flavours were already sold out. He got home with the cupcakes while my sister was on a work call. We are impatient though so we decided to try a cupcake anyways and just grabbed the one we knew she'd have no interest in - Macaroon, a coconut cake cupcake topped with chocolate frosting rolled in toasted coconut. We split it and both fell in love at first bite. My brother is not a frosting fan so for him cupcakes are all about the cake and he has been raving about how light and fluffy, yet flavourful the cake was all afternoon. As for me, I love frosting and cake and the flavours were just so spot on and rich that I was happy. Often frosting/icing can be end up tasting like icing sugar above all else but that wasn't the case here at all. When my sister got off her call, we went in for a second - Men are from Mars, a chocolate cupcake topped with malt frosting dipped in a chocolate shell with a caramel centre. It sounds like a lot but once again they nailed each flavour and they all worked together so well. I normally avoid chocolate cakes but this one was delicious and I'd definitely recommend. In fact, I'd recommended everything I've tried thus far and I'm sure that opinion isn't about to change.
