Usually, when everyone is doing a buffet, it's tough to get more than basic service but Kim was on top of drinks, clearing used plates and checking up on us! This, and it was a bit on the busier side. Could also use wet wipes or something after the sauce area as every handle had oil or sauce on it. Our hands were oily and sticky afterwards. Perhaps that's why the chair backs felt sticky to the touch. The guy cooking made 'joking' remarks to me (me not understanding he was talking to me) and it was a bit uncomfortable. The healthy vegetables are on the end vs. near the front, which is the meats and noodles. Lunch Special is $4.00 less than the Dinner Special, which includes choice of salad or soup. 2022 - Lunch Special is $11.99 - Dinner Special is $15.99 Note, the wait staff will only provide drinks and appetizers without a menu. Service was slow and the place seemed pretty understaffed. Our table was super sticky. Food was alright, definitely not the best Mongolian place I've been to. Two of us wanted rice, not noodles, but each table only gets one small cup of rice, not one cup per person. It was $68 for 3 people. The foods were fresh. The sauces tasty. Biggest deal breaker for me returning was how much cross contamination happened. I'm vegetarian and everyone in line's food were just plopped next to each other and as they were cooking I was just watching as the juices from the person's food next to mine, oozed all over mine. Terrible service. My friends and I sat at the front waiting to be seated for almost 10 minutes while the restaurant was boarderline empty. The server was in plain view messing around with some chairs. Eventually we sat ourselves and waited to get asked what we'd like to drink. In the end we left hungry with no drinks or food. The restaurant was fairly slow for 5PM. We were one of only a few tables, however the service was less than impressive. The waitress was too concerned with gossiping with coworkers than to be bothered by tables waiting on service. A younger gentleman was waiting on most of the tables and seating others while our waitress barely brought us a drink. We watched customers walk up to our waitress to ask for drinks. The buffet line was out of a lot of food. We had to ask for the meat and noodles to be filled so we could even make a bowl. The chicken that was left in the serving pan was thawed out so it definitely hadn't been restocked in quite some time. Then it was time to have our food cooked...which the cook was either in a bad mood or just simply didn't want to be cooking. Which we all have bad days so no biggie except he was not polite to customers either. Practically throwing our plates at us after cooking. The food was good just a terrible experience. The place was dirty and has gone down hill severely! It will definitely be a long time before we go back to the Dubuque location. Asked to speak to the manager, and the manager says she was too busy to handle the situation I need to leave. Tired using door dash since then with my name and everytime my order gets canceled. I was recommended to come here by my coworker and brought my family while we were running errands in Dubuque. I did not know what to expect at first but I was impressed with the operation. One could choose their proteins, vegetables, and sauces and then have their stir fried right in front or them buffet style. Recommend for dine in and one should come up with a sauce combination ahead of time since there are many options. You get to fill your bowl with any meat or veggies, choice of noodles, and up to 6 ladles of sauce. One can come up as many times as they like. We were seated right away. We arrived mid afternoon. There were about a dozen patrons at tables. The server got our beverages and white rice. The ingredient area was very messy. Several different items were mixed in with other ingredients. At one point I asked to see the manager. Showed her the tofu had at least four other items mixed in with it. Also, it was mushy. She changed it with new container. Didn't clean up pans around it. First young man cooking on grill items were still cold (zucchini and mussels). Didn't eat them. Most of the time we were there five of the employees were leaning on the bar area talking. One server did refill the soy sauce in the bottles from other bottles on the tables. No one ever tried cleaning up the area where the ingredients were. A couple of people were refilling the ingredients by putting them on top of the old ingredients. I had the Lady manager sit down and said that I have a National Food Management license and they are putting new on old and alot of the old was in little bits and pieces. I was told that they don't enough pans to change them out when they need more. Also, I was told that at the end of the day they change them out and the old ingredients are then put on top. Contamination. One gentleman said the beef was out (he had probably 7 little pieces) and wanted to know if they would put more out. Gentleman at the grill said they don't put it out because it would be gone right away. He told them that he can't eat pork or chicken. Guy at the grill just shrugged his shoulders. Too much unproductive staff. This location is a Franchise. Owner obviously needs to spend some time and see how much $$$ they are loosing in overhead costs and how this location is being run. Wont say the food is spectacular, but it is good and it's all you can eat Mongolian grill. Staff was nice and friendly. Place was pretty clean, the grill was a little on the dirty side. The place is not clean, the food area has dried up sauce everywhere and food that looks like it has sat there all day. The grill looks like it's clean once every 3 months. The cooks definitely haven't been trained like any other Huhot restaurants I have been too! The food sits on the grill and is mixed once before it is served, it's hard to trust that the meat is cooked through when it is never moved on the grill. I would give this place zero stars if I could. My boyfriend and I have been here multiple times and never had an issue until we tried to order alcoholic drinks. My boyfriend and I are 25 years old and the waitress explained she would not serve us drinks because we had vertical drivers license. I was extremely disappointed at the disrespect and unprofessionalism of this place. I told her to scan my ID if she wanted but she just said they cannot serve people with vertical identifications. The food was fine, part of it is what you make of it. My youngest had chicken strips and waffle fries, and they were nice, not greasy, a nice portion, but not too much which honestly bugs me as a parent. What was really outstanding, though, was the service. You see, my 10 year old has autism. We work hard taking him out in public without fuss, but new places are always a risk. We asked for a place that might be quieter, but understood there might not be a place. There was, and it was also near the door so if he got antsy, we could alternate taking him out (we believe that a misbehaving child should not bother others). They went above and beyond making sure we had menus, that he was served quickly, they didn't fuss and understood completely that he wanted a few pringles he was holding on to, and that we had the bill right away in case we had to make a quick getaway. The thing is, with such attention and care and consideration, we didn't need that at all! He was happy, and quiet, and ate his meal calmly, without even making a mess (as he can when he is anxious). It was as perfect a meal as we could ever have with him. Thank you. We were getting tired of only eating fast food as a family when we were with him, and the occasional diner type place. I am visiting from Denver where we have a HuHot & I enjoyed my DuBuque experience more that at home. #1. We were a party of 7 and called ahead (from Olive Gardens who had a 40 min wait). They typically don't take reservations but had a table waiting for us when we arrived. #2 our server, Barb, didn't dote on us (which I appreciated) but took very good care of us: this was a first visit for some of us and she took her time to fully explain how the restaurant worked and added some helpful tips. Even after she explained how the hot/spicy levels were clearly marked, I ended up with a large bowl with delicious ingredients that was TOO HOT for me to eat. I was going to take my losses, but she was very gracious to take my plate and encouraged me to start over. At no time did we wait too long for anything (to be greeted, drinks, plates cleared, refills or our checks) #3 being Vegan, at the buffet, I asked a different woman if any of the noodles had any animal based ingredients. She stopped what she was doing to find out & returned with a comprehensive ingredients chart that clearly identified any allergens for every ingredient. # 4 regarding sauces: our Denver restaurant has all the sauce recipes listed out for the customer to create themselves - instead of providing the premade sauces labeled with their ingredients and spice level - keep in mind HOT means HOT!! LOL!Creating your own sauces makes for an interesting experience, but I usually find it overwhelming and time consuming. With the number of customers in Dubuque today, that station would of created a huge back log. #5 the cooking station was also run very efficiently. The team of 4-5 people communicates and worked well together. They had a good system. They kept the long line moving at a reasonable pace. I love the fact that the HuHot is in the mall, so after eating lunch, you can go shopping as well. Positives: I think the food selection is excellent. The service is good as well. The atmosphere is very upbeat and more of a modern asian theme. One of the great things about this place is that there are no different size bowls with different prices. Everything is one set price, and you can go up for seconds or even thirds without having to worry about paying more. I also like how once you are seated, a menu is giving to you explaining the whole process of how the restaurant works. Everything is very similar to the Mongolian Grill on Dodge Street, but much more popular and crowded because it's near a mall. I think they have a wider variety of sauces to select from. Plus, there are peanuts and other condiments that can be places on top of your food once it's done. I love how all the different sauces and food hit my palate and how they taste. This place is worth the wait in my opinion. Negatives: Since it is more popular, there is a longer wait to cook your food. There is basically a mini wait for everything.
