So this is the 3rd time I have been to this little gem, and the food and service is always great. Wanted to take my girlfriend try it out, our waiter Marcio was just awesome. We had the fish ceviche, amazing and tasted very fresh. My gf said it was the best ceviche she ever had, I agree. Also had the chicken with green sauce, and the Fried rice with Chicken & Beef. Being a local from Rahway I was so happy when I discovered this spot! My friend told me about it and it's amazing. Both the ceviche and ceviche mixto are theeeee best, and they are always consistent every time I order either of the two. The best ceviche I have had thus far. This is definitely a hidden gem in Rahway and a must go to spot. The atmosphere is nice as well, it's homey and the outdoor part is nice in the summer. This is arguably my favorite Peruvian restaurant in Union County. My boyfriend and I always go for the same thing because we fell in love with those dishes. Their whole chicken is so juicy and flavorful without being overly salted and their arroz chaufa especial (Peruvian fried rice with steak, chicken, and shrimp) is a large portion for the price! Hands down the best "green sauce"....I always ask for extra! Haven't tried much else but if these two dishes are that good, I can't imagine how everything else isn't up to that standard. Finally after months of renovation Hugo's here! And I'm hoping it stays b/c it's good! It's spacious inside for dine-in, I've also heard bands playing while I was there as well, and on weekends when I stopped by there were also music and parties. I'm excited for the summer since the patio will be open for outdoor sitting behind the restaurant away from the streets. If dine-in isn't your thing, they also offer take-out and delivery. So you get to eat yummy peruvian food regardless =) I love the food here! Portions are really generous and there hasn't been a time I walked away without any leftovers. I have been here often enough and got to try a variety of items on the menu. It's pretty hard to recommend my favorites because honestly I'd liked everything I tried. That said, I go back for their special seafood fried rice (ceviche on the side!!). It's nicely presented on a huge elongated glass plate with a bed of ceviche on lettuce. It has a lot of fresh seafood mixed into the rice. Hugo's classiso is another one of my favorites I go back to. It comes with a mix of half ceviche and fried seafood. Ceviche is nicely marinated and comes with a choice of mild, medium or spicy. The seafood consists of a good assortment including soft shell crab, squid, mussels, shrimp, scallops, fish etc. On a side note the seafood goes really well with the green sauce! I also recommend the lomo saltado (flavorful meat sauce that is perfect with rice) and for something lighter, the avocado salad. The only reason that's keeping this review from 5 star is the temperature. While we were there a couple times over winter for dine-in, we were literally freezing inside, and ended up having to eat with our winter jackets on. It shouldn't have been the case. When we spoke to the waitress she said there was a problem with their heater and it just started up. Unfortunately we found the issue to be recurring when we returned a few weeks later. Luckily we are past winter now we we won't have to worry about that for a while. Stupendous food, and their menu doesn't specify but basically everything is family sized. My friends and I will order 2-3 dishes and a ceviche or two and it feeds 6 hungry adults with plenty of leftovers. The pesto pasta with steak (tallerin) is our favorite, the fried rice is pretty special too. Super glad to have Hugo's nearby. They do get pretty busy around dinner time so be prepared to wait a little bit- it may be an hour for delivery, but it's well worth the wait!! read more

Atmosphere is eh, food was eh. Very nice people working here. Fiance got the clasico, it is half deep fried food and half ceviche. The deep fried seafood was heavy and tasted like something from a TGI Fridays, the ceviche was probably the best part of the meal. This place is so unprofessional, I will never order from them again. I put in my order in more than an hour and a half ago and when I called the girl who I gave my order to said that they have no avocado for the salad that I ordered, I said that it is fine and to just send a regular salad and asked if the driver was coming because it's already been an hour. She said she is waiting for him but my order is ready. 35 minutes later I called and she sounded confused like I never ordered before and said that she has to look for the driver but my order is ready. Hugo's is very good place to come for good Peruvian food! Been here two times!! First time I came for lunch and got the lunch special for $8.00. I got aguadito soup with tallarin saltado and chaufa rice and also came with a soda which overall everything was delicious and well presented on the plate. Then later the same week I got the Chaufa de Mariscos to go. I called 20 minutes before I went to go pick it up and still waited 10 minutes at the place but well worth it. The rice was outstanding, wasn't oily or salty and had a good amount of seafood mix in the rice. I will definitely keep coming back for more and recommend this Peruvian restaurant for anybody that hasn't visited this place!!! I had originally visited Hugo's with a party of four and we ordered the pollo a la brasa with rice and french fries. The service was quick and the food was good. With that in mind I had no issue visiting them again..this time with a party of 6. We were seated rather quickly and ordered our food. I ordered the ceviche mixto and it came out almost immediately. I have no complaints about that at all. However, I was eating alone as the rest of the food orders came out sporadically. My dad ordered the arroz chaufa (seafood) and literally got his dish 15 minutes before we left. Everyone had already finished their dishes before he had even received his. Also, the arroz chaufa (seafood) literally did not have ONE shrimp. It did have over 15 calamari's that were chewy and lacked flavor. I spoke to the waitress to ask if she could take this off the bill as my dad did not even eat it. She told me the manager said the best he could do was take 25% of the price of the dish. Later when she brought the bill the manager had taken 50% off the original dish price. I think it is safe to say that when you go out to eat you expect to eat with all those seated in the table. This was not the case and the waitress avoided our table since she knew that not only my dad's but my friend's dish TOOK FOREVER TO COME OUT. We are not taking about 15 minutes in between the dishes being brought out..we are talking 35-40 minutes while the other guests ate. Will definitely NOT be visiting Hugo's again as the customer service here SUCKS. Hopefully this saves someone a frustrating experience. read more

I just had my third meal there. All three were very good. The staff is always warm and welcoming. The interior space lacks a lot of decorations. But, I was pleased with the service and food. First meal was a beef stew that melted in my mouth. Second meal was their BBQ chicken and proved to be tasty and juicy. The third was a seafood soup with great flavor. I just moved back into the area and was looking for a nice, outside restaurant to throw a small party for my daughter who was turning one. Since I regularly eat at Hugo's, I thought it would be a good idea but it ended up being the best idea EVER. The Hugo's staff was SO SUPER helpful with everything - especially William. Everyone raved about the food - in particular the chicken, rice and beans. The outdoor patio is lovely and the fact that it's BYOB is great! If you're in the area, you have to give it a try. Ceviche, lomo saltado (stir fry beef with white rice), tallarín verde with bistec (spaghetti with Peruvian version of pesto sauce with steak) and papa la huancaína (potatoes with spicy, creamy yellow sauce), pollo a la brasa (Peruvian style rotisserie chicken with fries and salad)) and jalea (fried seafood).
