Unfortunately zero stars isn't an option. Hughes was unfortunately given to us as our Estimator and move coordinator contracted with United. Bruce was our Estimator who failed to properly estimate the load, missing by THOUSANDS of pounds. Even after missing the estimate during the transfer from the loading truck to warehouse, they still underestimated, resulting in an improper dispatch to a driver. A significant portion of our household goods (all kitchen items, kids clothing and other major essentials) were left behind. General Manager Reno confirmed the entire mess, including the improper decision to crate remaining items, was Hughes' failure. For the next 3 weeks it was nothing but lies and empty promises. Our goods were lost for some time, then found then delayed over and over again. Hughes committed to financial compensation for their grave errors to be discussed once goods arrived. Still to this day, no reach out or resolution from them- not to mention we are still missing boxes from inventory. We paid $11,000 to avoid the pains of moving, yet because of the sloppy, dishonest and unprofessional nature of Hughes who doesn't even have the integrity to follow through on their commitment to make this right, this has been a nightmare. Do not, under any circumstances allow Hughes Relocation to be involved in your move- Whether independent or via United or Mayflower. Untrustworthy. A BBB complaint has been filed and all continued effort to bring consumer awareness to this company will continue. Businesses should never be allowed to operate like this and this will not be dropped as long as Hughes continues to pretend they can skirt responsibility for their admitted failures. read more

We hired Hughes for our move from Florida to Ohio. They came and packed us quickly but that speed was due to a bunch of short cuts. We didn't catch all the errors but they pretty much just threw things in boxes and tired to not pack things. Lots of stuff ended up broken. What is the point in buying picture boxes if you just throw pictures (with glass) into boxes with other things? Beyond the boxes, our kitchen table came to us with a big crack. This was more than likely due to them loosening the legs and then putting heavy objects on top of the table. Similarly, my daughter's play set was broken, a crib was broken, chairs had holes put in them. To add insult to injury, they picked our stuff up in an 18 wheeler and then unloaded it at some depot, only to put half of it in another truck for the move! Our stuff was not all brought and they had to send the second half 2 weeks later! Who has time for all this. Also, the insurance they carry is worthless. When we made our claim for all the broken things they demanded to see the boxes. We moved a whole house! There were a ton of boxes! The table didn't even come in a box. What were they going to look at for that? All in all it cost me a lot of money to move and I had to buy new stuff. Piss poor work. read more

Run as far away as you can, as fast as you can from these jokes. Promises not kept. Horrible customer service (you should see the email I received from a 'customer service' person.) Hughes completely missed my scheduled delivery date twice. I waited more than 12 days for this company to carry my stuff about 800 miles. What? Nothing takes that long to ship--even from overseas. Showed up at my house without the box to pack a $1500 TV. Their solution was to have me go find a box to pack it in. While I was on the box hunt, one of the movers had a bowel movement in my master bathroom that was incredibly unpleasant for several hours. Moving companies are notorious for many reasons and Hughes Relocations exemplifies all of those bad perceptions. Never again, Huges, never again. read more

Never one to write an unfavorable review, this is our very first. But rest assured it is very accurate! We have made 12 different moves in the past 35+ years and the move with HUGHES WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST! It is never an easy task to move and mistakes are sometimes made. A lost box, a broken item are things you may expect. But never were we met with such unprofessional drivers, or service as we were with Hughes. The rush to move us out so they could make their time bonus as well as the rush to move us in, was unmistakable. The move was one move from our home to our condo and storage unit, which required one truck and it was a direct ship to the destination. So it is a true wonder why so much of our things were and are missing. When asked about the missing boxes we were greeted with the fact that we signed the inventory sheet and it was up to us to check all of the boxes on the list. There were over 200 boxes on the list, which made it impossible to compare the boxes to the inventory sheet as well as direct the move and placement of the boxes that did arrive. We didn't know that bonuses are given if a move is completed in a certain time frame, and for that the drivers made out well. We were left paying for the experience of the worst move of our life. Thank you for responding to YELP Unfortunately , your company sent the complaint to United and it was squashed We filed police reports about the stolen goods as well as filed claim forms for the damaged goods We also filed the reports with your company - however, your firm did not give any type of restitution . Especially , when you are dealing with emotions over the passing of a loved one and having to move all of your relatives things from Florida to New Jersey is not easy task. We recently relocated from Ocala to St. Petersburg, FL. Having moved several times in the past using smaller, family owned movers, we decided to call a larger company this time as we wanted extra help and more service. Also the previous company sent movers who had no experience and were not at all careful - to the point of moving some delicate pieces of furniture without wrapping them, resulting in dents and scratches. From the first moment the representative (Reno) from Hughes arrived, we knew we made the right decision. He was prepared, professional and courteous, answering all our questions. As we dealt further with the office staff, (Maria) we encountered the same professionalism and eagerness to be of help to us. On the day of the move, the truck arrived on time. The men were polite and took their time to ensure each and every piece of furniture was perfectly wrapped and handled with care. Due to logistics, Hughes held the truck for two days for us.
