Beware, a friend of mine had Hughes inspect a home under contract and determined the home subterranean termites. The home owner got a second opinion and Hughes came out again and confirmed no termites. Hughes a gave quote to take care of the non existent termites which was in my opinion very shady. read more

Unprofessional! Scheduled an appt. for lawn and yard treatment, the agent applied treatment then stated he was new and would need to double check the plan with the owner. After no signs of effectiveness, we contacted them for retreatment and review of the confirmed solution. After rescheduling twice, drove ~ an hour to meet them for an appt. arranged several days in advance (they were aware we needed to travel for the appt)... after arriving we receive an email stating they need to cancel the visit as they could not successfully reach us to reconfirm the appt. I responded within 5 minutes of that email and called confirming our number has not changed since they used it to make an appt. with us... they refused to come out stating the tech already made other arrangements... all in all, they likely did us a favor directing us to find a company more effective and professional. read more

BEWARE!!! I had a termite inspection done on a home I have under contract in Sarasota. Hughes was contracted to do the inspection. They were difficult about scheduling the inspection and tried to change the inspection date three times. As the home is still occupied, this presented a problem. When they FINALLY agreed to do the work as originally scheduled, the inspector showed up, spent about 10 minutes at the property, told the homeowner everything looked good, and sent me a report mainly consisting of a sales proposal for ALL their services. However, the report did indicate that termites were once present and untreated by the use of the words frass, shelter tubes, exit holes and galleries, all of which are indicative of termites. Being suspicious that only one truss in the attic was affected, I ordered a second inspection from a different company, who found no evidence of termites. It was $100 well spent. I really like this house and am now moving forward with the purchase. HUGHES could have killed this deal!!!! They are a large company that has been in business for a long time. Hughes Exterminators of Bradenton was recommended to me by my neighbor. My wife and I moved into our villa in late October and had our first evaluation and treatment on 12/29/16 (this property had been under contract with the same Hughes of Bradenton by the previous villa owner). The service professional, Ron Short arrived on time. He proceeded to start his evaluation in the garage and when he came inside he put on disposable "booties" over his shoes. I shared that we had no active pest activities and that I was concerned about "spraying" inside the home. He informed me that the products used were earth friendly and that he would not spray but inject bait into areas typically found to have pest activities (any water pipe/ wall, cabinet joint spaces, etc..). He allowed me to follow him and ask questions which he answered promptly. What impressed me was that his answers were "evidence based." He quoted answers and suggestions from Florida university agriculture findings. When he began the outside evaluation and treatment, he swept away cob webs and or hornet nests and sprayed the perimeter. All in all he spent greater than 50 minutes at my villa. Ron Short was professional, knowledgeable and delivered good customer service. He exceeded my exceptions. I now have an annual contract with Hughes Exterminators of Bradenton (quarterly visits).
