I came here with a few friends for dinner. I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't. Maybe they were having an off night, but only one out of the 5 of us liked our meal. I got a really yummy salad but the grilled chicken on top was super dry. So dry I couldn't even chew it. Gross. My friend got fish and it was also extremely dry. I was really disappointed. We got a sampler platter to start and it was all pretty good. But it was all fried. I usually like all things fried, so it's not hard to please me there. I got a chocolate chip cookie and sugar cookie to go and they were both just ok. I've had way better at multiple other shops that sell cookies. Probably won't go back. We tired this for this first time after recently moving to the area. We were so excited to find a nice little sit down place with delicious food! I ordered the summer salad and really liked it. The dressing was a bit much, so I just used a little, but it was very fresh and large. My husband got a ravioli dish and really liked it. He couldn't even finish it. We got an order of fries too and they were the perfect consistency. The bread and raspberry butter they start with is excellent as well. I have become addicted to this restaurant. My wife and I eat here all the time. Although the service is a little hit-and-miss , The food is always superb. When you go inside the 1st thing that you notice is they have very eclectic Lighting fixtures. Every section seems to have its own grouping of different chandeliers. The place is inviting and comfortable. They have an adequate sized menu with plenty of options for all different tastes.It seems as though most of the items are mostly if not completely homemade. They bring what they call beer bread when you 1st arrive edit comes with a side of butter mix with strawberry cream cheese. I find it very odd tasting. I've ordered many different things off the menu, and as I said before everything is absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend this place. read more

We've been to Hug Hes in Ogden a dozen times and always had fresh bread, good service and delicious, fresh food. This time we got old crusty dried out bread, that felt and tasted like it had been microwaved. When we mentioned it to our server she said, " I took it out of the bin that way." And then brought a fresh full loaf to the table next to ours. We ordered Prime Rib medium rare and it came out well done. When we mentioned it to our server she argued with us, "I told them medium rare and this is what they gave me." A very disappointed to say the least. read more

We had a pretty disappointing experience tonight. As a chef, I do understand the inner workings of the restaurant industry and always do my best to be overly understanding, especially amidst this pandemic and the ever changing health dept guidelines. However, we walked in the door at 6:10 and were seating after a short 3 minute wait. We browsed over the menu, had some pleasant conversation. We watched another family be seated a few benches away from us. We also watched as that family was greeted almost immediately by a kind server wielding bread and waters. He passed us by, and we smiled at each other. He came back to them with their drink orders, and passed us by again. The family a few benches on our other side had been checked on multiple times as well. After 30 minutes, someone finally came by and apologized that no one told them we were seated there. They took our orders and disappeared for another 15 minutes. Then, out came our food but no sign of our ordered drinks, waters, or complimentary bread. We actually had to ask for our drinks to be brought out. All in all, from being seated to having our orders we waited nearly an hour. The food was fine, but the service left us feeling like we would like to take out service elsewhere. read more

The atmosphere is chic. Each sitting area is illuminated with a unique, clear-glass, overhead chandelier. Service is polite and knowledgeable. The 3-pick appetizer was good sized. The Onion rings were greasy, need more flavor, and the batter is light. Sweet potato fries are waffle cut and were cooked beautifully. The chicken salad needed salt and pepper. I wish there was larger celery and grapes to add crunch and flavor. The thin cut beef was scrumptious. The Au jus was watered down. This place had friendly staff, quick service, clean environment, and delicious food that is well portioned. We got the turkey club and chicken alfredo pasta with both sweet potato fries and regular fries. Tried this cafe for the first time today. We enjoyed it. Nice atmosphere with clean booths and floor. Staff was prompt and friendly. Server checked on us many times throughout. We had the chips and salsa, kids burger, turkey club; we ordered 3 cookies to go. I noticed they have other items on the menu that I want to try next time: spinach and artichoke dip, buffalo wings, different salads, juicy burgers, meatloaf sandwich. I ordered online for a lunch pickup this week and they did an amazing job. Salomon salad with their pasta salad dressing. I even got some of their delicious bread and a cookie on the side! Looking for a good burger, while on vacation and this place had great ratings. Now I know why. All the food was amazing! As we walked in, my first thought was "crap! We are way underdressed." It looks like a fancier restaurant than I was expecting, but most other customers that came in were dressed very similarly to us, so I felt much better. Nice furnishings, not sure I think Cafe when I walked in, but the food was so good, who cares! Started out with appetizer combo of cheese curds, fried pickles and wings. Next we had a Buffalo chicken sandwich, Bacon Cheeseburger and two Bacon Bleu Cheeseburgers. All cooked perfect, huge side of fries and a pickle on the side. Our visit for lunch today is because of reviews on yelp. We were seated right a way, the place is new, clean and modern looking, friendly front end staff. My wife and I ordered the Fish & Chips (I'm looking for the perfect fish & Chips) we opted for the clam chowder as a side, plus added a side salad with blue cheese dressing. They brought us 3 slices of baked bread and some strawberry something and butter to put on it, the bread was okay, just kinda yeasty tasting. The chowder and salad came out and right a way we find a piece of trash foil in it, something from a rim of a jar or something. We show the server and they replaced it with a new bowl, I'm sure it was from the same vat, anyway the chowder was creamy lots of clams, the potatoes were overcooked so all was left was the skins, sorry one more thing, very salty. Salad was okay, nothing special but was fresh. Fish was a little crispy outside and tender inside. The steak fries were quite limp and could have used much more cooking. Because of the trash in the chowder they did offer us one (1) free cookie (woopidedo), we opted for the oatmeal, it was good. Not long after lunch both me and my wife were feeling a bit sickly, I cant explain why but it could have been lunch, just sayin. For you, give it a shot and let me know if I should try it again. Went with a bunch of friends for lunch. We have all been to the other Hug-Hes or the quick service Hugs restaurants but we all like the restaurants enough we wanted to check out the new one. The interior was really nice!! Can't beat the beer bread they serve you. Our server was great! Never once did I have to ask for a refill on my drinks. I got to try the fried cheese curd and yummy! I got my favorite salad - the "Summer salad" and it was yummy and big. The only downside I can see is for lunch it came to over $ 15.00. I got a salad and a drink. First time here and LOVED it. The cafe is spotless and well spread out. Service was fast, portions are huge. The linen napkins are a nice touch. Meh... everything on the menu seemed to have the word "sweet" in it. Bread appetizer needs a little work. Good portion size to cost but portions too large for lunch. Menu descriptions need a little work, a pre frozen chicken cutlet is not fried chicken. My main concern is that when we were leaving we wanted to buy some toffee at the counter. We asked the girl at the counter where the toffee was made and she said, the owners make it in their kitchen at home....... isn't that against health regulations? I'd like to give this location of Hug-Hes a ZERO! Went there the other night and arrived close to 7:45pm (they close at 9:30). Nobody else was waiting to be seated and the bar was empty. When we told them there would be 6 of us they said the wait would be 40 minutes. We asked about sitting at the bar and they said it was closed. Got the vibe from the manager they didn't want to have us in the restaurant because they had a bachelorette party coming in. We weren't rude, just disappointed and decided to go somewhere else instead. As we started walking out of the restaurant one of the three girls at the front area started to loudly mock one of the ladies in our group who was laughing. Really?! You couldn't even wait for us to walk out the door before you start making fun of us? I have liked Hug-Hes but I will not come back to this location ever again. The employees need some serious training on how to treat customers. Maybe those employees should look for jobs elsewhere...if you can't even be kind to the customers that walk through the front door maybe the restaurant business isn't for you. Too bad, I don't know how a business can stick around with that kind of service. Go somewhere else!! read more

Hug-Hes you need to do better with your alcohol products and service. I want to leave one star but I do not think that will be fair because their food is good. Every time we come here there is an issue with ordering alcohol. My wife loves blue moon and we know Hug-Hes carries Blue Moon. Options for places that serve alcohol is limited in the area and Hug-Hes has really good burgers and fish and chips. So we come here for the beer and food. To us the drink is just as important as the food. In the winter we came here and ordered a Blue Moon. They bring out a Blue Moon with out an orange slice. We ask for the orange slice. They do not have one. Serving Blue Moon with out an orange slice is like serving a rum and coke with out a lime wedge. It is part of the drink. We go again a couple of months later. They are out of Blue Moon. Then today we go and order a Blue Moon and another beer on draft and the food server comes back and tells us that their draft beer pump is down and they only have bottles. No Blue Moon in bottles. So my wife orders another beer off of a very limited selection. This time the manager comes back and says sorry we don't have that beer. It was a beer from Roosters. She said we can't get Rooster beers right now. Wife told the manager about how disappointed we are and how every time we come here there is always an issue ordering alcohol. The manager shrugs it off and does not even offer an apology. She then gives us low key bitchy vibes and has an attitude when she brings us our beers. I felt she could have handled this a lot better. Also, I went to use the restroom. The bathroom was a mess. One soap dispenser insides sitting on the counter. Both paper towel dispensers are broken. With a roll of paper towels sitting on the counter. The floor in the dining area was a mess. These are all easy fixes and it is shear laziness to not have this low hanging fruit fixed and improve the ambiance. Hug-Hes is really going down hill. read more

We have gone to this location for many years. We walk in at 2:45pm for a group of 6. I think I saw one or two tables occupied. The hosted told us they would seat us but we would have to be done eating and leave before the people that have reservations came at 4pm. I have never been treated some rudely. We happened upon Hug-Hes Cafe while on a Saturday drive. The name is what caught our attention. We were guessing on how to pronounce it. Haha! (I still don't know) The inside is very modern and has an upscale feel to it. We were sat right away by Makenzie who became our waitress. There's a fair amount of options on the menu. Appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, salads, main dishes and desserts. We ordered the chips and house made salsa on Makenzie's recommendation. It definitely tasted homemade. Not too spicy. The chips were colored which made them more enticing. My husband order the pastrami burger and a side salad while I was struggling to choose between the bbq pork and the philly and swiss. Again Makenzie came to my rescue and steered me toward the philly swiss. My husband was a little worried about his burger being too pink inside because he hadn't said how he wanted it. The burger came out PERFECT!! Not pink at all, very tender and flavorful. I snuck a small bite, it was good! My philly and swiss came with a side of new potatoes and shallots which were again cooked to perfection. They were peppered a little too much for my liking but I still ate them all. I wanted a few of the desserts but only ordered the gingersnap cookie. I was very surprised by this place. I will be telling friends about it and will definitely be returning when in the area. The food was sub par at best. I stopped in for a quick lunch and the restaurant was empty. The hostess was a bit stand off ish, but the service was quickly saved by the young lady that waited on me, Paityn. Paityn was quick, efficient, and very attentive to me without being overbearing. I never had to ask for her anything as she was quick with refills and ensuring that I was doing okay. For lunch, I had a Mexican Club Wrap. It was nothing special. The chicken tasted bland and almost as if it had been sitting in the fridge and heated up in a microwave. They have several options for sides. I choose the steak fries, but there is also shoe string and Buffalo fries. I would like to try this place for dinner before I completely skip it next time.
