Few stores have such terrible customer service as the Bay. This location is no different. Was standing at the till for 5 minutes waiting to buy a pair of socks and the employee acknowledged that I was there but still walked away to talk to her coworker. I just walked away. This store is always filthy, and the employees care far more about chatting with their coworkers than helping customers or taking care of the store. Ask anyone though, as sure as water is wet, The Bay has horrendous customer service. read more

The Bay seems to offer a wide variety of clothing, shoes, and housewares and often they have good sales of up to 50% off. Sometimes if an item is on clearance, you can get an additional discount. When things aren't on sale, they are expensive and I can find similar items elsewhere for cheaper. This shopping experience I was looking for a watch. With 25% off and then an additional 15% when using my HBC credit card, it was a deal I couldn't pass up. There was only one sales staff working in the watch section and he was helping someone. I saw a lady in jewelry but then she was busy helping a customer. I waited about 10 minutes and the man came running to help which I appreciated his service. After I paid, I went to get the watch sized at the watch repair. The guy working there seemed disinterested and I'm not really sure he enjoys his job. But he took out links and I was on my way. It was a great deal on a watch but as usually, don't expect much with service. read more

The Bay has a lot of household items, including tvs, patio sets, pottery, suits, everyday wear, pillows, makeup, jewelry, etc. I can see why The Bay is a popular choice for people's wedding registry. I like how a lot of household items are just in one location, making it a convenient shopping destination for most people. Their men's clothing section has gone through a recent revamp as well. They've added brands such as Bench, Mexx, Buffalo, and Guess to try and draw in a younger crowd. The prices are about the same as what you find at their respective stores, however the styles always seem to be a few months off. They do have 'Bay Days' sales on these clothing items though, so it is possible to find some good deals here, just be prepared to dig through their racks. I've also shopped here for formal wear. Possibly the worst service I'd ever had in a department store of this sort. The fact that this rating got even one star is due to at least one of the employees trying to assist me (and those I was with). It took us a MINIMUM of twenty minutes to actually track down an employee who could help us in purchasing a floor model bed that was on sale; the person we found told us to expect someone to come help us at the location of the bed. We were left sitting for another fifteen/twenty minutes before we were forced to look for someone ourselves. The person we found had told us that the Bay doesn't sell beds in that location. The next person referred us to another section with no directions. And the other told us to go look for another person. It took nearly an hour and at least seven bad directions before we gave up and walked out without the bed. This location completely lacks communication between employees and is a big pain if you're trying to buy furniture. read more

I like the Bay for so many reasons, including the role it had in exploring the western areas of Canada. I have a hard time finding help there, though. However, on my most recent visit, not only did I have help, I had happy kind genuine help. It was a great surprise. It's worth going to the Bay b/c of the huge amount of goods they sell. read more

I did not have a Bay card so the cashier offered to do it for me, as store was quiet. The questions kept getting personal, and more personal as questions went on. She was following the questions on a lap top. As the form was going on I started to feel very uncomfortable. They were questions like how long have you owned your house. Where did I work, and what did I do. Wrote down everything as appeared on my driver's license. Do you know what danger you are putting your customers in ? There was enough info that could make another person, and believe me your life will become a nightmare if the info fell into the wrong hands. Don't say your system is secure none is secure nowaday. There was no need to go through a person's life just to get a Bay card where you would receive discounts. That information was none of your business whatsoever. I had her quit before the questionnaire asked for my blood pressure, and sex life. The clerk was quite lovely, and it was not her fault, just an inappropriate behaviour very unprofessional from your powers that be. There was absolutely no reason to ask those very personal questions except for disrespect and greed. I will never step in your store again unless there is darn good discounts for an item I need. Located in the "Quieter" side of West Edmonton Mall is their Hudson Bay location. It's two floors like most of the department store/mall locations are. I brought my family to this location while we were giving them a tour of mall so they can get "Team" canada gear and we were disappointed at the selection. Everything was basically mixed together and quite a few items were missing price tags. They had a onesie that couldn't be sold because it was the last one and didn't have a tag. We asked an associate at customer service who took the onesie to research the price but couldn't find a record of it in the store or online. She attempted to call another location however it also took the second location to find the item and price. I'm not sure if this happens to other customers or how often things like this happen however I would hope the store would have a back up plan. They did have a pretty good selection of Men's clothes overall and I do enjoy their sales from time to time. The store wasn't super busy which was nice. At other locations it can be a madhouse so I enjoyed the lack of crowd. I'm not sure I would go back to this location unless I were in the area or unless they were the only location that had a specific item. read more

I'm not really a big fan of The Bay at West Ed. Maybe it's because there are a million other stores in this mall. I find that I never really seek out The Bay unless I've scoured the entire mall unsuccessfully for what I'm looking for. This location of The Bay has the same kinds of things that every other location has - clothes, shoes, accessories, electronics, home decor, a little bit of everything. I find that when I do go to The Bay here, the staff all seem depressed. I don't know why, but they do. They have good prices, like other Bay locations. I just find it more fun to go through the mall than this particular location of The Bay. read more

Very poor customer service. Spent 20 minutes walking around trying to find someone who worked there to help me. Additionally, the dressing room floor contained pins absolutely everywhere. When I brought this up to the employees, they simply explained that it wasn't their fault. I explained that it's a safety concern especially with people barefoot while trying on clothes. I only go to the bay when I absolutely have to. Customer service is not even a thought to the staff. It's usually messy and incredibly hard to find items, especially since no one wants to help you. The cosmetics section is by far the worst. Snobby girls selling snobby makeup. Do you have a question? Don't ask these girls, they don't actually care. On April 30 I purchased the most expensive bed that The Bay offers for sale. The purchase price was $5332.99 + tax. To summarize what will be my last purchase ever, from THE BAY: * We purchased the most expensive bed they sell. * I disassembled and re-assembled my old bed because they missed their own delivery schedule. * They delivered a bed and damaged it getting it out of their truck. * They damaged my wood flooring dragging the bed across my house. * They damaged my carpet and walls dragging the bed through my house. * They refused to set up and function-test the bed as they had been paid to. * They delivered the wrong, mismatched box springs. * They damaged my mattress. * They cost me time off of work. * They charged me for set-up of my new bed and didn't. * They charged me to haul away all of my old bed and didn't. * They said they would "make it right" and didn't, offering what amounts to a 16% discount. * They dragged-out negotiations until the mattress was beyond their 30 day period for return. * They sold me a bed that was no longer available at the time of purchase and won't take back the one that they delivered in it's place. I believe this is what Consumer Affairs calls "Bait & Switch". Yesterday, August 1st, it took me about 3 hours but I finally got the bed working! Cutting-up my Hudson Bay card took considerably less time but was equally satisfying. read more

The Bay, as it is a department store, is a one stop shop for me. I love it because I can buy everything I need at one location - very convenient. They have great sales, and excellent variety. However, customer service does not seem to be a priority at this location. I read a review that the staff seem to be depressed - sad but true! Stuff are scattered all over the place and nobody seems to care. One can also spend plenty of time scouring the aisles for someone, and they can't even help you! It is very frustrating to the point that convenience is no longer a factor. Also, everyone seems to know nothing about anything in the store. If you don't understand what I mean, you would totally get it if you come to this specific location. Seriously, we had the merchandise in our hands where we found scattered somewhere, and we asked FIVE staff members to help us look as we needed more and NOT ONE knew where to find it. We have been through the first and second floors because we were told on separate occasions that it was on the 'other floor'. For such a prestigious department store, you would think any one of those five people could help us. It was a complete waste of time. Only go here if you have a lot of patience. You would need it. What can I say? It's a department store, and department stores in Canada are usually a huge disappointment. Well, when you compare what they have on offer with the US, anyway. That being said, this store had the largest selection of unisex appropriate baby clothes that we found, anywhere. It was impressive. Department stores have their place, and this one is no different. I can't speak to the service, as we didn't interact with anyone the last time we were there. They do offer a wide variety of items, and you can get great deals on sale stuff. If I need something specific, I'll stop in, but generally, I avoid department stores like the plague. read more

Was there today at WEM Hudson Bay on a Thursday morning in April, to purchased some sandals and others items and frankly was pretty much disgusting to find no assistance in any departments. When I did locate assistance at the cashier desk, they were rude and more concerns to go on with the transaction than answering my questions regarding the discounted items. I left the store wondering and looked back at my receipt and noticed that instead of 50% discount I received 35% discount. I returned to the store and spoke to the same cashier. I asked the cashier why was I not offered the correct displayed discount? She responded by taking her calculator from the shelf and doing the math from the purchased price less the discount from receipt. I finally got her to come with me and showed her where and what was the discount 50% but she insisted of looking on upc# and I guess I didn't read the upc # that was clearly written but the brand name items that I purchased was clearly displayed as the brand name that was on discount of 50%. I expected her to either bring me back to the register and call her manager or honor the discounted items. She didn't talked to me and walk away. I stood there in ahhhh. I couldn't believe it......I said excuse me, did you want me to return to the registry. She didn't even acknowledge me and walk somewhere in the back of the store. I waited for awhile but then left I will never returned to the Hudson Bay or any Associated Stores. In my opinion if it keep going this way, with an overstocked store, poor service these stores will end up in the past like Sears...it won't matter what is discounted on Bay Day Sale. I've gotten some really good deals at the Bay. I recently got a Lacoste Bath Mat for only 12.99... normally $42! I also got a Canada zip up sweater that was normally around $100 for about $30. If you look at their sale stuff you can really get some good things! They have high quality stuff which which is a bonus. If things aren't on sale, it can get quite pricey (which... I mean... I expect that because they have all kinds of designer brands). Usually, you don't have to wait too long in the check-out lines because hey have so many and usually it's not too busy but I have waited a few times just because the customer before me had a complicated matter and the person at the till didn't know what to do.
