It's not the quietest of locations, and dog owners stay away (no pups, strictly enforced), but for the baller, shot caller or 40 inch toddler - this playplace is A-OK!

Parking is fairly easy, there is a parking lot. Most of the playground is accessible, besides 1 swing. There is 1 swing over sand, 2 swings over rubber, and 1 bucket harness swing over rubber. The is sensory and musical, play equipment in the first part, as well as imaginary play. Secondly, there are low monkey bars and a climber. Next, there is a straight slide and if you go a little higher there is a spiral slide. To get on the playground, there are stairs, a curved ladder, or the monkey bars. For older kids, there is a semicircular climbing net. There is also a baseball field, pickle ball courts, a basketball court, picnic tables with shelter, and 2 trails leading to neighborhoods. It is fully of activities for the younger set, and it would be great to go there for 15 minutes to half an hour!

Benches, both covered and un, stay fenced out from where the action takes place, and this setup attracts a wide variety of park-goers: skaters, squirts (the full playground is wee but brand new and totally rad), Sixers and sunning snackers savoring salami sandwiches. Eat the alliteration with a spoon, y'all. I do hope the abundant surrounding residential spaces will keep a close watch on the grounds, as Spring Hill deserves a public space like this and has the community to make sure it stays in great shape.

However, this is a perfect playground for all ages, from age 2 on up. There are four different sections: a wooden play set for older kids, a toddler section, another wooden play set for toddlers and older kids, and a climbing structure off to the side for older kids. The wooden playground equipment in the middle is perfect for playing chase, because there are lots of bridges to run on and spaces to hide under. Climbers will love all of the things to climb on, including a wall with a rope to help you scale. There are slides galore, bridges, monkey bars, fireman poles, ropes, tunnels and steps. The only thing: There are no swings here! But there are so many other things to do that you don't even miss them. One of the best things about the playground in this park is the view. You can see the Charles River from this playground, as well as all of the beautiful buildings and bridges around Boston.

ETA: there actually is parking, over by the wading pool, but you have to put your life at risk by slowing down enough on Storrow drive to turn into it. Then you have to try to get back on... obviously this outrages everyone else on Storrow to the point of lewd gestures and angry horns, since they're so busy with their important lives.

That's right, yelpers... parenthood and old age are staring you down. Cummings Park Playground is the favorite playground for my 1.25yr old. The climbing/play structures are built on large sand areas, so it's like a giant sandbox (with clean sand no less). There are quite a few donated toys lying around (many of which are trucks), so there's lots to play with. 3 toddler swings, 2 big kid swings. A small basketball court with one hoop. The whole park is nicely laid out. I feel perfectly comfortable just sitting back on one of the benches and letting him walk around and explore. The best part is that its primarily used by 1-4yr olds, and there is almost always some kids there to play with (especially in the mornings). It can get busy, but it never gets too busy/insane (like Alexander W. Kemp playground in Harvard Sq). Generally speaking, the big kids and teenagers keep away. The worst part is that it has very little shade. In fact, there is no shade on the climbing structures, so they can get hot in the middle of the day. There are a few trees, but they aren't positioned particularly well. All the exciting stuff that your kids will want to play with are in the sunny spots. So I would recommend it as a early/mid-morning playground.

The first thing that struck me about this park were the separate play areas for under 5 and over 5 kiddos. I tend to go to the park on Summer St but there is only one structure and when the bigger kids play Tag, I always worry about my daughter getting knocked over or off the structure. The under 5 structure has only one opening through which there is potential for a fall; otherwise, the panels are closed. The structure offers opportunity to develop the gross motor skills through climbing and crawling through tubes. I genuinely appreciate the three baby swings as well as the sand (vs wood chips). Another big bonus is that Whole Foods is just a short walk down the street. There is a small basketball court adjacent to the playground but doesn't seem to be frequently utilized. This definitely seems to be a more family friendly park!
