There really are NOT a lot of options for a sit down breakfast in the Wise area. That's a bummer. So, we showed up here to relax and have breakfast one weekend rather than eat in our cars. I was saying goodbye to family and we decided to eat here before driving off in all directions. As a chain breakfast spot goes, the food was in the lower part of the OK zone. It wasn't nearly as good as the higher end breakfast spots and kind of felt behind the standard. Kind of the "value" breakfast. It was warm, eggs were great, it met the needs. Staff was great. Waitress was very nice, polite and attentive. The cook was working his butt off and really hustled in the kitchen doing an A+ job. The management should be proud of the people here. With OK food and great staff, the score dropped because of the seating. We had six adults put at a table that really was designed terribly. In likely another cost saving measure by their franchise operations, they have this ledge along all the windows. It hangs out about 6". If you are along the window and eat with that arm, forget it. It was a crazy inconvenience. I almost went to 2 because of the poor design. If you are a cost accountant, maybe you would rate it higher on the ability to cram people into a space designed to cost the least to build. read more

The Huddle House in Big Stone Gap is the best one in the surrounding area. The food was fresh, hot and cooked to perfection. It is evident that James took pride in his cooking. He eve came to our table to check how satisfied we were. All 4 of us had no complaints. Destiny, the serve is an outstanding,polite and friendly server. All in all it was a very pleasant meal for all of us. Can not think of anyway the food or service could have been improved. read more

I went to the Huddle House the other day and there was hardly anyone in the whole restaurant (3 tables were occupied). We got our menus 5 minutes into sitting down the workers didn't immediately take our drink order they just gave us our menus and walked away. We ordered our drinks and were ready to order. The waitress didn't come back until around 15 minutes later to take our order. She walked to our table and asked if we were ready we then said yes, and as we said yes she said "I need to go grab my notebook I'll be back". Around 5 minutes later a whole different waitress came and took our order. We ordered our food and then proceed to wait another 35 minutes to even get our food. We didn't order much at all and yet it took that long. My order was wrong and my food was cold. I ordered a waffle and didn't get my syrup for another 25 minute, by then my food was cold. We waited to get our receipt like we always do, and we never did so we just got up to pay. Not to mention there were at least 5 or 6 other workers standing in the back room doing nothing, while only one of them ran the floor. There wasn't a lot of people in the restaurant so I know it shouldn't have taken as long as it did. It seems like every time I go to this restaurant now the service is always like this. I'm very disappointed with our local Huddle House and will not be returning. read more

The waitress was slow and texting the entire time she was supposed to be working.... food okay, service bad.

It's like Waffle House but lower quality. It's edible, just not very good. Even if you're really desperate, just stay home.

Driving for hours on Rte 23 south through KY, trying to find some place other than McDonalds to eat breakfast was a no-go. Nothing was open at 6:45am. But I'm going to tell you even if something is open, drive a little further south to Wise, VA and visit the Huddle House. I got a Western Omelet and the Hubs got the Hash Brown Platter. The food was delicious (best omelet I ever had), the restaurant and bathrooms were very clean and the waitress was on-point and a real doll! We'll be stopping by next week on our way back to Ohio! read more

they are too lazy to even take an order over the phone they demand you make it through doordash or online. But yet once you make the order they can't do anything to it and if you ask them to change it or update or substitute anything it's a mess and the manager frank has the worst attitude ever. service is horrible. the management is even worse. the food is a big hit or miss. Visited the Wise area for a special event. There aren't many options for breakfast in town that our group found. On a Saturday four of us visited this location and had a great breakfast. Our waitress was excellent and the food was good. Sunday we went back with our whole group of 9 people. We knew it would be busy. There is only one large table in the back for groups here. When we arrived, the people at that table were done with their meals and had been sitting already for almost two hours according to the wait staff. The group continued to sit and chat, meals complete, for another 45 minutes. These patrons were aware another group was waiting and continued to sit. The manager/owner did nothing. The lovely waitress from the day prior did her best to encourage the group to pay and leave. Her final attempt was to let the four ladies in our group sit at the booth open next to the table and as we sat the waitress told us we could move to the larger table once the people left. The group which appeared to consist of about three collegiate sport team authorities from the local Virginia University at Wise along with a selection of potential recruits continued to stay all while knowing the situation. The adults in the group were facing us. The manager/owner was still NO HELP even after one of the female authorities from the college mouthed to me to f@#$ you from their table. Once that group finally left we transferred to the table one of our group said something the manager apparently overheard and took as a hateful comment which it was NOT. He had nothing to say earlier but suddenly came over and gave our group a very loud and unprofessional lecture and threatened kick us out over something that was neither malicious nor hateful. Mind you, our group is all middle aged professionals who know how to conduct ourselves in a restaurant. There is no place in a restaurant setting for a manager/owner that berates customers (he was rude to every single person that dared to open the door to see if a table was open) or is rude to his staff. Our waitress was a sweetheart and we tipped her very generously both days. The owner didn't recognize his staff works for tips and table turnover is a big part of that? No effort was made to help us get our table but once we were seated and eating he shouted to the entire restaurant, "Anyone that's done eating get up so the server can clean the table!!!!" This town is very small and options are limited. We only stayed because of of that. All of us were mad and shocked at how were were treated by the one person on the staff that should have handled things well and made things right. We were all also appalled that professionals from a local university would behave that way. I feel sorry for the locals that deal with this. read more

I took my family here to eat dinner on a slow Monday evening. The staff had a section of seats closed for no apparent reason. After we were seated, we ordered and waited a while. In the meantime, other people came straight in to a table already set with food on it. The cooks were exchanging vulgar language while working. Two people in street clothes were behind the counter just hanging out, reaching over food and drinks waiting to be served. I'm sure they were off the clock employees receiving their free meal for the day. The place filled up, except for the tables that were sectioned off, and the staff were turning people away at the door. Poor customer service and poor food. The food was bland and tasteless. Last time we come to this establishment and we advise everyone to stay away. read more

We were traveling and stopped in for a quick breakfast. Service was great and food yummy. Then went out to car and battery was dead. Called auto service finally reached someone over 30 minutes later and told would be about another hour till arrival. Phone battery was dying so went inside and explained situation and asked if they had an outlet I could use. Not only did they take me to booth with outlet the sweet waitress offered to give us a boost. Where else can you get great food with sweet southern manners followed by directions to nearest auto parts store. My husband and I greatly appreciated your help to get to vacation destination sooner. Just left without eating. When we went in there were six dirty tables and one clean. Cook and a waitress were fussing and said a few cuss words. Could not hear the person beside me because it was so noisy with the cook and waitresses talking back and forth across the place. The cook went over and pulled the waffle off the iron with his bear hands. Customers in front of us had ordered the waffles and saw also and decided to leave. Cook asked us what we ordered and when we told him, He talked to waitresses and they had not put in the order cause our waitress was one of the ones fussing. We told them just to forget our order we decided to change places to eat tonight where it was a little calmer. read more

Like Waffle House; open 24/7; affordable; greasy; quick service; big menu of breakfast and lunch options; unlimited coffee. I'd go back! Quite enjoyed the chicken fried steak and deluxe hashbrowns. Grits were tasty. Eggs were done over easy, just the way I like them. Also tasted their chili -- was delicious! Not an extensive amount of seating here and they struggled to accommodate our party of 7 at a single table, so not certain it's good for big groups, unless you want to break up into multiple tables. read more

Came in for an early morning breakfast and sat at the bar. Watched the cook pull out a drawer and dump all the bacon and sausage on the floor. The problem is when he proceeded to pick it all up off the floor and put it back in the drawer for later use!! Then without washing his hands he began handling all the food preparing to cook it! Would not recommend eating here unless you're looking for some sort of colon cleanse or your not afraid of food born illnesses. read more

My experience was fairly ok. The table was clean my drink came promptly. Food took a little longer than usual, fries over cooked and dry. Bacon was yummy and the cheese on my fries did not last as long as I was expecting. The cheese harden and went to the side of the fries and was so hard after awhile you could not peel the cheese off the fries paper.the server was friendly yet only check on me once that was when I received my food. Presentation was ok. The area was cold. But still enjoy their food overall the steak and cheese omelet is my favorite. read more

I'm kind of in the middle on Huddle House. Ok food, just really greasy.

I've been here a few times. Today my experience was atrocious. We sat down and waited about 15 minutes for a server to come over and take our order. When I looked up from the menu I saw 3 female servers arguing about who has to bother to serve us, and 2 other tables that walked in. After realizing that the servers had no interest in doing their job, I had no interest in dining here anymore. I've been here before, and usually around 3am. The waitress at that hour is usually right on point, but today verified to me that this location is full of employees who have no interest in doing their job. Update: I went back to see if they cleaned up their act at all, the answer is no. Cold food, terrible service, and dirty booths everywhere. The only server there was on her phone, and the cook sat in his car for 20 minutes before he came inside to make our food. He made it wrong, so we had them do it again, he made it wrong again. They also made us pay for an order of Biscuits and Gravy that we didn't receive. I really wish I could have said that I came back and things were great, but it's just horrible. I've lowered the rating to 1-star. read more

I live in South Carolina, but travel every other month to Va.In August while in the Wise location store # 544, I cut my hand while using my knife to open a vitamin packet.Vince Justice helped me get the bleeding stopped and bandaged it. He went out of his way to help, and since I was riding a motorcycle it was imperative I get the bleeding stopped. Kudos to Vince and the staff of this location....Charlie P.
