Huckleberry Square Restaurant is awesome! I was worried because of the mixed reviews, but I had an excellent experience here. The restaurant is easy to find and they have a huge parking lot. We went on a Sunday around 7:30 AM for breakfast. They weren't busy and we were seated right away. I ordered the Classic Benedict (two poached eggs, thick cut Canadian bacon, toasted English muffin, and hollandaise sauce served with hash browns). I thought my food was perfect. Service was excellent. Our server took our order correctly, our food arrived quickly, our coffee cups were kept full, and it was easy to pay our check. I would definitely recommend this place and I look forward to my next visit! read more

Great spot in Burien with very nice staff, breakfast always served, and they even have a program where you can help pay for others who can't afford their own meals. They've been open for decades and it's good to see them still going strong. Tasty breakfast burrito, pancakes, French toast, and their huckleberry shake is fantastic. When the new owners first took over u was very displeased with a lot of changes as can be seen in my previous review. Many of my complaints relating to food, both then, and those that arose since, have been addressed. They brought back normal French dressing which is great, got rid of honey chipotle corn which was inedible IMO, and other subtle changes like better bacon with breakfast. These touches combined with new carpet and upholstery have made old feel new again. Some remaining suggestions: it's a "diner". The patrons here want diner food, nothing to "elevated". Just traditional. That's why they go here, that's why I go here. It's ok to improve quality or make adjustments but it still needs to resemble roadside Americana. I also really liked the ability to pay at my table with a QR code. Not sure why that feature has vanished. Lastly, in my previous review I said the food had gone downhill. That was my honest assessment as a customer. The owner responded telling me I was wrong. I was confused by this... was I wrong about what I like? Bad look to customers to argue with a review unless they blatantly lie about an incident. Even if you don't agree with advice, those are your customers, just read it, take it in, and leave it at that. Overall the restaurant has been on an upward path and improving. I hope it continues. Huckleberry Square is hands down the best breakfast spot around. It's been around since I was a toddler. I highly recommend the fractured vegetarian omelette, that said everything on the menu is fantastic. The service is always warm and smiley, in-fact a lot of the employees have worked there for 20 plus years. The food quality is always on par and it has an old school atmosphere. To be a true Burienite - you got to have gone here at least once or twice and either love it or Meh. In my high school days I felt the latter. This place used to be dark looking inside, with an ever present mildew, moldy smell lingering in the air because of the old carpets. And then there was the subtle feeling of not being welcomed because - well - if you know what I'm talking about, you know. Otherwise, don't analyze it too much. Anyway, fast forward to 2020 when I decided to stop by here again after many years, the place felt completely different. It's now cheerful, doesn't smell weird and the food is actually good. I noticed another reviewer below saying they have a new ownership and that the place has a "political agenda" lol. Well, if that's the case - I Love it! The new owners are doing things right! Came here again today with my Dad and we enjoyed a New York Steak and Eggs, and the Denver Omelet. Both came out piping hot pretty quickly even though the place was packed with the typical weekend crowd. Steak was a perfect medium just how I wanted it. Scrambled eggs were fluffy and not overcooked. Hash browns were crispy with just some slight burnt to the edges - just how I like it! My dad really liked his omelet. We both cleaned our plates and had no room left even for their famous Streusel cake, which I highly recommend. I do love that this is one thing that hasn't changed from here after all these years. This is basically a coffee cake with a crumbly cinnamon, brown sugar and not too sweet glaze on top. Get this instead of the typical toasts - it comes included in the price of breakfast dishes already. There are ample parkings here, which is another thing I appreciate. Their pricing are extremely reasonable too in my opinion. Looked forward to our late noon early dinner visit. Service was adequate. We both had the fish and chips. Fish was NOT beer battered as on the menu but large in portion and good, slightly overcooked. Fried were excellent and the cold slaw "to die for". Could not eat all, doggy bag. Desert was great and a must. Wife had huck pie and ice cream and I had probably the best banana split ever. Super yummy breakfast, quick service, spacious dining room, lots of kind employees, great for kids. They have crayons for coloring in the kids menu which is so helpful to keep our young kids occupied. We are starting to get hooked on this spot! I got the chicken fried steak yesterday with gravy on the side, and chose to sub the biscuit for my toast (the biscuit is HUGE!) the eggs are well cooked. My hubs likes his eggs over medium-well (he's high maintenance when it comes to eggs lol) and the cooks have made them just the way he likes each time we've gone. The prices are reasonable, we can usually get out for $40-50, two kids, two adults and one coffee. The portions are on the bigger side, I've always left with leftovers from my plate. My favorite items for breakfast is the classic eggs, has browns, toast plate or the New York steak and eggs. The food is always fresh and cook perfectly. I always pair it with some fresh OJ and their house made streusel coffee cake. For lunch or dinner, I always choose the delicious patty melt with fries. It's savory and filling. The only complaint I had was that my hash brown tasted burnt even though they were not burnt so that makes me believe that the grill wasn't scrape or cleaned before cooking the hash browns. Walking into my favorite place for breakfast biscuit and gravy is my go to. Not today I just needed some things simple basic to be in and out. I decided to sit at the counter like I usually do where it's quiet.. Not today. The manager and employee are sitting at the end of the counter mocking and laughing at the emails and resumes that have been sent into them for a new posting online. They were there about five minutes just yapping as loud as they possibly could not even taking in consideration the guests around them. They left and came back about five minutes later to even speak louder and speak about what's going on in the restaurant. I finally politely asked those ladies if they could find another spot to be less loud. Not only did the manager snap at me and was confrontational over it. But she made me feel like I was interrupting them and I was interfering with their gossip. Finished my breakfast visibly shaken by this interaction . I asked My server that is my favorite to please go get her manager. Little did I know that that was the ladies that were yapping on the side of me the whole time I was having breakfast. She walks over confrontational rude and backtracking instead of apologizing and saying so sorry for your experience today. Not only did she lack the skills to recognize she was in the wrong. She told me I didn't hear what I just heard and that I didn't know what I was talking about. As loud as she possibly could next to the other patrons embarrassing me even more. I don't know if it's a race thing but clearly I wasn't her favorite person today and the fact that I spoke out and ask them politely to remove them selves so I can eat a quiet breakfast. We've been planning on going here for ages because so man Yelpers gave it good reviews. After stopping by for lunch today I'm still trying to figure out why. We went on a Sunday afternoon and since it was a football Sunday it wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. A young man stopped by and took drink orders which was nice. I ordered iced tea which came in a glass the size of a juice glass and it was difficult to get refills since our server was generally MIA. She finally stopped by to take our order, nothing exciting, a half a sandwich and soup for my friend and a BLT with fries for me. People all around us who had come in after we did got their food way before we did. Maybe you have to be a regular, who knows. When it finally showed up my plate had the sandwich, a pickle spear and no fries. I asked where the fries were and the server said, and here's where its strange, they come from another part of the kitchen and i forgot to pick them up. Since when does a cook not put fries on the plate with the sandwich before putting it in the window. So she says I'll go get them, and we never see her again. When she finally comes back to give us the check, I asked where my fries were and she said oh, I guess I forgot. Would you like them now? I've been eating here for over 40 years. The restaurant was sold about a year ago. I miss Don, the previous owner. The food has taken a big dip in quality, the "baby reds" were underdone, the vegetables were not just not hot anymore, but cold. I don't know what the heck they were thinking with the corned beef hash I had last night. The servers are stellar, too bad the food is so .... mediocre. In short, the food went from wonderful to meh. the prices went up - a lot. the servers are amazing, we had a party of 9 and Jeanean handled us like the pro she is. Nice little family restaurant, plenty of seating, tons of menu options, the portions are generous for the price. We were in the area with the fam on a Sunday and got assorted breakfast plates. Everyone was happy with what they got and the crew working there was friendly and brisk. I got their sirloin steak breakfast plate which came with 3 eggs, toast and hash browns, I think the hash browns were the standout. There was a lot left over for my bf to take home lol. I got their huckleberry lemonade which was pretty much lemonade with berry jam on top of it, which sounds fine in theory but I'd probs just recommend juice or water. It's a regionally themed restaurant, they have a lot of Salish/Native American art and decor and seem to promote local cultural events too, that was pretty cool. A lot of people come here for brunch or a small snack with coffee. It's a relaxing place to come catch up. The waitresses are always filling up your water or coffee. They serve you the food and don't bother you afterwards. But they're always around to help when needed. The food here is delicious. I ordered a country fried steak with scrambled eggs. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The hashbrowns came out crispy and the chicken is soft and tender. The sauce is not too flavorful so I added a bit more black pepper for my liking. The plate filled me just right. Not the mention, I get a side of streusel cake. You can choose toast or other options. Overall the food was really fresh!! And under $10.00.
