    Burger special with fries
    Rayna V.

Came here on a whim and couldn't be happier with my decision! I always judge a grill by their burger so getting the cheeseburger special was the move this time. It cost $9 for my meal and the burger was big, juicy with fresh toppings and chili. I've never had that before but I was delicious! The rest of the menu was reasonably priced grill and deli faire that I may have to do a second trip to try morService was fast and the staff exuded southern charm! The vibe of the restaurant is very southern small town old fashioned grill. Most of the seating is booths with non movable seating but tables and bar seating is available for those with mobility issues.

Excellent crusty char on the burger - a better bun and fresher lettuce would have made this a near-perfect lunch!

Exactly what you'd expect from a small-town diner; cheap, fast, friendly and fried! Just order at the counter when you walk in and grab a seat at one of the booths - don't forget to check out the $7.50 daily specials, including Chicken & Pastry, Turkey & Dressing, Pork Chops and their Country Fried Steak platter. There's a whole mess of veggies available - squash & onions, collards, beans & corn, cabbage- and other fixin's written on the white board at the front of the line. Lunch is delivered on Styrofoam plates with plastic utensils. There are paper towels at the booth for napkins - you'll want to use those for cleaning your table when you're finished eating - thank you very much! The $5 cheeseburger had a huge patty and was perfectly charred on the flat-top tucked away in the tiny kitchen. The wilted brown lettuce and thin, fall-apart white bread bun were the only drawbacks. For $7, you can upgrade to a double cheeseburger that's about the size of a small infant. The $4.79 Shrimp Burger, piled high with golden fried popcorn shrimp and a spoonful of coleslaw, came on the same wimpy bun. The French fries are standard crinkle cut and were cooked to perfection - a little crispy on the outside, but soft and creamy inside. The onion rings were also perfect. Other items include hotdogs, corndogs, a gooey grilled cheese sandwich and an impressive looking fried bologna sandwich. It was "Cash Only" the day we were dining, but that didn't stop the place from filling up shortly after noon on a Tuesday. Come hungry, fill the hole, and earn a cute nickname like, "Sugar", "Honey" or "Darlin'" from the nice ladies tending the counter. Oh, and don't wander around looking for the "deli counter" - this ain't New York City.

Instead, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. From the beginning, things felt off. Our server was wearing basketball shorts, which seemed completely inappropriate for the atmosphere and setting of the restaurant. The wait for our food was excessive, and when it finally arrived, it was almost entirely inedible. The food was cold, the broccoli was essentially raw, the rice and risotto looked and tasted nothing like they should, and every meal at the table was disappointing. For a bill of over $300, not a single person in our party left satisfied. To make matters worse, we noticed the restaurant had a B sanitation rating, which certainly didn't inspire confidence after the quality of the meal we received. The waterfront location is beautiful, but that's where the positives end. When you're paying premium prices for a special celebration, you expect quality food, attentive service, and a memorable experience. Unfortunately, we got none of those. We won't be returning, and I couldn't recommend Saltwater Grill to friends, family, or anyone looking for a nice meal in the area.

We were in no rush and our waiter (Beckett) was very accommodating with our pace. we ordered drinks and settled in on reviewing the small menu. Drinks were fine but I thought my beer (Sexy Cool Hazy IPA) was a little flat. We asked if there were any appetizers that would lend themselves to sharing. The only two, deviled eggs and pimento cheese, were not anything we were interested in so we passed. Surprisingly, there was not even a salad option as a starter. Two of the dinners had the NC catch of the day, golden tilefish. It was nice but a very small portion. One had the shrimp and clam purloo. It was a generous portion and was reported to be good. I had the braised pork cheeks. They tasted good and were not fatty at all. Looking back on our dinner, the food was fine but nothing exceptional. Also nothing "fresh" on the menu; salad, fresh vegetables, nothing. Also the lack of something other than the very pedestrian offers to share is something to consider. For what we paid, I would expect much better. PS - Our waiter, Beckett, was very good. Attentive enough but not too much. Also, why do restaurants of this caliber charge more for a credit card. Who is going to pay cash for a $300 meal? Just crank it into the price of the food and stop rubbing our noses in your cost to do business.

Kistler Chardonnay, and a canned beet salad?…read more I wrote a review of Boro about 8 years ago, it may be interesting to go out and compare the two. I have to say my wife and I are confused by our latest dinner experience more than anything. We could not get into Il Cigno Italiano, a fantastic restaurant (I recommend to the eggplant meatballs), who suggested we visit their "sister site" Boro. We love Il Cigno and thought, wow this going to be great. I did not realize the two were related under one organization. Like all my reviews, I try very hard to keep drama and non factual commentary out as much as possible. I focus on setting expectations based on my experience. Ambiance - Boro has changed since we were there last. The bar was walled off from the main dining more than before. The walls were empty with no art or really anything... pretty sterile...not a romantic setting, but more of a family setting. In fairness, they may be remodeling, I did not ask. One last critical item, we were sitting under a HVAC wall unit, that leaked on us through the meal. I would have asked to move but we moved to the far end of the booth, it was fine then. The outdoor patio is still nice though, and is fun to go watch bands and relax listening to music. We do this frequently as we are "locals". Service - our waitress was attentive, very nice and did check on us. The hostess was great, and was able to seat us right away. So service was pretty spot on. ....except, I am no longer paying credit card service fees that are not verbally noted when I sit down (small print on the menu does not count). These fees, have been added as "Covid era" item to help restaurants. I had no issue with it then, however, we are not in Covid anymore. I run a business and feel this is a cost of doing business and needs to be in the pricing (more helpful for customers) or absorbed. 3% is well over $200 per year for our eating out budget. Food - this is where I left scratching my head. My wife and I both ordered the Beet Salad. It read on the menu it had arugula, butter nut squash and a combination of greens. When it arrived, there was very little arugula, very sparse squash and it had canned beets on it. The greens were very scarce, more of a garnish than a salad amount. At best it looked like it was a small side salad, not a dinner salad. It was not a good price point for what we received in my opinion. However, the Tuna Takati was nicer for $15 and much closer to an Il Cigno level of offering. Another strange dynamic was they offered Kistler Chardonnay, which runs for about $90 a bottle. It is a world class wine, but Im not sure how well it matches the restaurant, or the level and quality of the food we were severed. In summary, if I was the owner of Il Cigno I would be hesitant to send folks to Boro who may looking for an Il Congo experience. In fairness, I did not ask about decor or the HVAC. However, the food is not at par for the pricing or the quality I would expect after eating at Il Cigno. Aug 15, 2026 - This is a follow up to this review. Boro up charged my credit card after I clearly wrote the intended tip and why I cut it short. See the new picture of my credit card statement. I want to say is was a mistake, but both pictures tell a hard story. We will not be back.
