So disappointed. I use to love this place but had a bad experience this week. Lunch time, nobody in restaurant, which should have been our warning. We ordered the daily special ( chicken pastry) and a fried oyster plate. We waited over 40 minutes for our food and those oysters were absolutely disgusting. They were huge, undercooked, smelled terrible, I've just never seen anything like it. The hushpuppies were some little brown balls, the size of a penny. Oh, and the yam, were undercooked. I don't leave alot of bad reviews and I understand every restaurant has a bad day, but for Bakers, this was a terrible day. read more

Good food, good service, what more could you ask for?! Came here one morning for breakfast before having my truck worked on. The waitress was nice and efficient with my order. The menu, like many diners, with really big menus are often overly ambitious and cause everything to be less than their very best. They were out of a lot of stuff, and some of what they could make seemed canned, old, or simply like it was just stuff you'd make at home for a much lower price. The staff was friendly, which will lead us to try them again. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. They have a surprising amount of seafood and steaks on the menu, priced at what you'd expect from much fancier restaurants. Baker's has a small town vibe, where it was clear people knew each other and the staff knew the regulars. That has its value too. read more

They forgot my food then took 25 minutes to make it. Never acknowledged the mistake. 2 out of 3 plates on the table went untouched because it was so bad. Only 1 person had edible food. If your food is that bad you better at least have good service, this place can't even do that. read more

We had breakfast at Bakers this AM. Our server was pleasant. I had a small western omelette and my wife ordered pancakes with sausage patties. I assumed the small western would be made with two eggs. It was made with one egg. The one egg thing bothers me. My wife's pancakes were ok but nothing special. We will keep looking for a better breakfast spot. read more

Physically, this restaurant little rough at the edges but don't let this turn you off, Bakers is a gem of a family style restaurant staffed by extra friendly, welcoming people. If you wanna wait almost 2 hours for your food and for it to come out half cold then be my guest , but if you got some sense I wouldn't. We came in at 11am and didn't leave until almost 1pm with the majority being us playing the waiting game. Our waitress only came by to take our drink order and food then disappeared and it wasn't till I asked for her to check up on our food that it magically came out only for my husbands food to come out cold. I'd understand if it was slamming but we came in when it calmed down quite a bit. We had people sit after us and they got their food asap. Best response you can get from the waitresses? This was our first time at this restaurant. My wife noticed all the cars in the parking lot and wanted to see what it was like. The place was full and of course it was a Saturday morning. Friendly staff. A bit of a wait to get served, but it was Saturday. We had breakfast and it was good, no complaints. I love the atmosphere of lots of locals. We are from Holly Ridge. My only complaint is the men's bathroom. It needs some work and clean more often. We will return as we like the mom & pop restaurants and not the chain types. read more

The first time the restaurant was busy and while food was good the service was horrible, we had 2 adults and 1 preteen in our party for lunch. We stopped this time for breakfast- 2 adults. The service again was horrible! The restaurant this time had maybe 10-12 people in it and 3 waitresses working. The service was almost non existent and our food was not as ordered and cold. One order was hash browns with gravy- instead we received tater tots with gravy, the second order was 1 scrambled egg and 1 biscuit with gravy. The egg was fine however the biscuit with gravy was cold and our waitress NEVER came back to check on our food nor our drinks- 2 cups of coffee. We will not be back. Service took forever to come checkup on us even to get a refill on water took 30 mins. Then the food came out cold like my ham felt like it sat under the heat lap for longer it took to get a refill on water. I know for a fact they skipped our food cause I saw a family come in 24 minutes after we ordered; then I saw they're around 20 minutes later their food came out ours no where to be seen. We did have a bit of a wait for the food, but considering how busy they were it was understandable, and they had good coffee that they were constantly refilling. The ribeye looked the a wobbly piece of bologna, it tasted awful. Stopped in for an early lunch. The husband's baked chicken, green beans and potato salad were good. I thought the potato salad was too sweet but, my husband liked it. I had grilled shrimp which were definitely frozen shrimp. They were very bland. My Mac n cheese was good and the potatoes and onions were ok. The staff are very kind and I really felt well taken care of. We would definitely return and try something different. Husband didn't like the peach cobbler. Diner where locals and old timers enjoy a home cooked meal served with southern hospitality. The outside is plain but with lots of parking which is needed. The servings are big and prices decent. The food is good. Judging by the crowd everything is probably good. We came for breakfast. Drinks came quickly but food took a bit of time. One in our party got his food late and they took it off the check. And apologized. Despite the snafu, The Resturant is busy and we'll run. Deserts are great. Would certainly recommend. They are having a hard time, food has a good taste but the deserts are very much homemade.
