To start the waitress and front staff were great. Nice, friendly and very accommodating. That being said the only good thing was the coffee. Brother ordered the chicken and waffles. Well it's chicken and half cooked single waffle, my breakfast sandwich with crispy bacon was a lettuce sandwich with soggy bacon. Well ordered biscuits and gravy which we thought was expensive but wanted to try it and got a single dinner roll. When we told the waitress we ordered the biscuit we were told that was a biscuit. I let her know it doesn't look or taste like a biscuit but a dinner roll and was told that they get that a lot and everyone thinks they are dinner rolls after ordering it, but it's a biscuit. If everyone thinks it's a dinner roll and you are the only ones calling it a biscuit probably should tell you something. This seems like an old person place where taste doesn't matter and it's more nostalgic for them. To each their own. I wish this place the best in the future but we won't be coming back. read more

Sundays are for the Lord and a good breakfast! I love that Hubbard's offers tamales -- such a fun and unique breakfast option. The service is always friendly, and the Cracker Barrel-style décor with vintage signs and old-fashioned marketing touches makes it feel cozy and welcoming. I have seen this place for awhile now, but never eaten here. Today I was in the area and decided to give them a try. I loved the retro decor in the place. From an old cigar shop wooden Indian statue to airplanes hanging from the ceiling and vintage signs on the walls, it created a cool vibe in the place. Our service was really good. There was also good teamwork among the server staff as far as helping each other and attending to the customers. We ordered the Chicken Salad Sandwich lunch special with French fries. We also ordered a Waffle breakfast which included of course a waffle and 2 eggs, and bacon. The chicken salad was decent, not great. Honestly, I was a little disappointed in it. The breakfast was better. The eggs were cooked to a perfect over-medium. The bacon was good quality and thick cut and crispy. The waffle itself was light and fluffy and not overcooked like so many places do. I think the syrup could have been better. So overall, the experience breaks down like this: Cool ambiance, really good service, and food that I really feel was nothing overly special and with some adjustments could rise up to the rest of the experience. read more

We like to try local breakfast and brunch restaurants favored by locals when traveling. Good points: Breakfast cooked to order. Eggs just as we asked. How it began: We had table of four as Hubbard's Texas Cafe opened. Greeter had four of us in our booth moments after we walked in, and it was busy already. Server knew the menu well and guided us. We had chicken fried steak and pancakes, 2 omelette, 3 bacon and eggs, and 4 migas. Server kept coffee cup full. The servers moved around like happy bees, taking care of tables, bringing coffee and food to guests, and removing finished plates. Sadly we had no room for Hubbard's famous pies, which we regretted because Chuck Norris gave their pies a thumbs up. How it ended: Way better than expected, and not far from hotel. My mom and I ventured in on a Saturday morning at 11am. The place was packed which was expected. Our waitress was attentive and nice. The iced tea was absolutely terrible. We had to send both our glasses back for another beverage. The omelette was pretty good. The pan potatoes in the other hand lacked flavor and had zero seasoning. Texture was great just was bland. The biscuit and rolls were cold and no butter to be found. My mom said the chicken fried chicken was good but the gravy was bland and adding pepper didn't help. If you've read any of my reviews you would know that I am a huge fan of diners and diner food. My favorite being mom and pop places this is one of them. They serve breakfast through lunch ending service at 3 PM. They're a great choice for breakfast anytime of the week or weekend. All the waitresses there are absolute sweethearts. They do a very good job of getting the orders in in the food out in a very timely matter. Now for the food if you've ever eaten anywhere, no matter where you eat you generally eating Mexican. That's a direct reference to the kitchen staff. These guys know exactly what they're doing producing very authentic, American and Mexican dishes. The great big stand out here are the tamales. Simply put people, they taste like my moms. You have your choice of poor beef or chicken at 28 bucks a dozen they're a bargain as they are large in filling. Located in Rowlett this place is absolutely worth the drive. Don't miss it. read more

We have been coming to Hubbard's for years. Mainly the Garland location but they are now permanently closed at that location. Food was always good and loved the decor there. Tried the Rowlett location several times including this past Saturday. We got seated at 11:01 am however did not get our food until 11:25 am. Almost got up and left however we saw the waitress bringing the food. I ordered Chicken fried steak and eggs with a biscuit & gravy. I have had the Chicken fried steak before and it was good. But this time the gravy taste like it had bacon grease in it and the food was very salty. And the gravy was not white either. Probably won't go there again for Chicken fried steak. read more

My server Ash was so wonderful. She took my order and asked in detail if I needed anything else to go with my meal. She suggested several varieties of hot sauce to go with my avocado toast, butter and cheese to go with my grits. My coffee cup was always full. I am so over Menu prices saying one thing and the wait staff charging something different!! Instead of charging the menu prices she took it up on herself to charge ala cart!! 15.00 for 2 eggs, sliced tomatoes and 2 pancakes!! Crazy!! I absolutely love this place! They have awesome Tamale breakfast that I get every time I go into it. Coffee is always fresh and they are quick and polite. My husband's favorite is the Migas with bacon. So fresh and flavorful. They have the old diner feel to the place with counter seating. All young ladies dressed casually no uniforms over here. This has become one of our weekend brunch places. Good food, quick service. We have yet to try their pies, we are always super full from our main meals. One day, we'll get there. The service is okay. It is typically semi busy when we go so no line out the door but not empty, either. Our food has mostly always come out fast and it's always been warm and great. They also have bloodies and mimosas. I have only tried the bloody and it's good. My go to has been french toast with sausage or eggs with sausage links. Both are yum. read more

Definitely has the cafe feel. We visited in a su day after church service therefor expected the crowd. However, we were seated quite fast and service wasn't lacking. The food menu is extensive. I had the chicken friend chicken and it came with one trip to their salad bar and a side. Definitely satisfying portions! We didn't dive into any of their desserts but the selection of pies looked yummy. Maybe next time. Staff is friendly and prices are reasonable. This was disgusting the burger was DRY no flavor, onion rings was cold. Once we went to the table it was messy. Water on the table and sweet 'n low paper. We waited even until the waitress was at the table.. we had ordered something to drink. She had gave us the drinks (Diet Coke) and she dropped the straw on the table. In the water. You expect certain eccentricities from a cafe like this - a waitress in high school that has a kind smile, and has yet to be affected by life on the larger scale. You expect interesting decor, and pies in a display case. You expect sweet tea, plastic table mats and a white board with specials. You get all of that. What you also expect is a delicious meal. Home made selections, with a hot roll or cornbread. You expect flavor, for better or worse, and a standout meal that represents the area. You don't get that. My earliest memories of this place are meeting my best friend from college here on Wednesday mornings each week before class at Collin College to drink cheap Screwdrivers and eat some serious biscuits and gravy. Great memories. Passing through today, I hoped to get something good again, but for lunch. As I sat down I realized that I had not been in quite some time, and I was feeling lunch. I decided for some country favorites - what they call the catfish strips, macaroni and cheese, and fried okra. What irks me a bit is they have a sign saying "made to order." I saw my basket come up in the window, and it came to me within minutes (a good thing). When I received it, however, it was disappointing. First, the sides were not made to order whatsoever. They were cooler than room temperature. The okra was so bland I literally poured salt on it. It tasted like eating a spoonful of dry cornmeal. The mac and cheese was literally elbow macaroni with canned nacho cheese and some shredded cheese mixed in that wasn't melted. The catfish strips were good, but not spectacular. A decent size, at least. That did come out hot. The cornbread was a taste of sweet, and the rolls were so dense I had a half bite and ignored the rest. FYI - they only sell bottled beers and mimosas, screwdrivers, salty dogs, bloody marys and margaritas. I did not have them, but likely won't return to try it again, despite the great memories here. This place has potential. Rowlett is beautiful, everyone knows Hubbard's, and the place is VERY clean. Step it up, get quality ingredients and you will have an amazingly spectacular spot that people would travel to try. Head down the street a bit to Dalrock Diner. You'll get a better meal, a better setting, better service and a better price. read more

They're menu features everything you could possibly imagine, they serve breakfast ALL DAY, and they also sell homemade pie!!! Their country fried steak is hands down the absolute best I have ever had. They're great for breakfast, lunch and dinner! They even serve mimosas, screwdrivers, and bloody Mary's if you're feeling like going there for a Sunday funday brunch. My wife and I are retired. We used to frequent Hubbard's regularly but in the last few months the owner decided to charge for an extra plate if you choose to share with your wife. It's not that we can't afford the $2 extra for the plate, it's the principal. We have slowed way down on eating since we got old but Hubbard's is the only place I've dined at that charged us for an additional plate just because we wanted to share. I really like their food, but we probably won't be back there for this reason. I feel sorry for the lady that owns Hubbards- she must be really greety or just doesn't like "old folks" habits of sharing. read more

Found this place on accident and so glad we did! In all my years of dining out I don't think I've ever encountered a friendlier staff. We were greeted quickly, checked on regularly and never had to ask for anything as they anticipated all our needs (refills, extra napkins, etc). The place had a warm, welcoming atmosphere and the prices were awesome. The menu was diverse and I found my favorite, chicken fried steak. Went into Hubbards to pick up breakfast. Got to work and noticed the bacon tasted rank so since I work down the street I went on my lunch to discuss it with them. Spoke to Sarah (mgr) and all she said was sorry. Not how can we make it right. The next visit we were eating there and mentioned the price on the ticket didn't match what the menu. We spoke to Kaitlyn (assistant mgr) she said oh you must've got an old menu. After a few mins and me saying they needed to honor that price she reluctantly changed the price. I also asked if they charged extra for blueberry's in pancakes (because before they charged me for them and this time they didn't) She looked down at my ticket and proceeded to add the extra for the blueberry's. I won't make the mistake of going back. If I want crappy service I'll go some where else. read more

Took the kids for breakfast this morning. They all asked for chocolate milk. It was so diluted with milk or water that didn't have much of taste from chocolate. It was not sweet either. I asked them take the cups back and add some more chocolate but still tasted below average. I asked for whole wheat toast and got white toast. I asked them to fix it. She took the toast back and quickly came back with the same plate. She then tried to convince me that their whole wheat looks white. What?? Decor is nothing special since this was another restaurant before Hubbards. Service is good and coffee still has free refills. If you aren't looking for fancy but just old country diner experience this may be your place in Rowlett. read more
