In the interest of full disclosure, I'm friends with one of the dudes who runs the store. But that aside: this is a really, really solid comic shop. They have all the current stuff, but what gets me on Hub comics the most is their selection of trades and OGNS. It's crazy deep, they have most anything you'd be looking for on top of stuff you've never even heard of. I think it's one of the best local shops in the area this side of the outer Limits. Visited here whilst over from England. Lovely little shop with knowledgable staff and a good selection of comics all shapes and sizes. Lots of light, and a creative layout that makes it enjoyable to just browse around Prices are reasonable though not cheap (this isn't Amazon), so be prepared to pay RRP, which you should be if you want to go back to stores like this in 5 years! So, I just got back into reading comics after about 20 years. If you have the vaguest inclination about doing the same thing or are new to it, give this place a try. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Just because of when I happen to stop by, I primarily see Dave. He has been great at steering me to both new and old titles I've never read based on my interests. This place is a real somewhat hidden gem. I actually drive out of my way to go here, now. This was the first real comic book shop we found on our trip. We were so upset over newbury comics that we had lost some hope. This place was everything a comic shop should be. They didn't have the back issues we were after when we asked, but Tim overheard and ran out to his car, returning with the exact issue we needed and they only charged us cover! If you're in Boston and love comics or movies based on comics or TV shows based on comics -- heck, if you love reading period -- then you must visit Hub Comics. Once you step in, you'll notice that Hub isn't your average comic book store. With huge shelves helpfully labeled by genre (sci-fi, horror, etc.) and sections devoted to popular creators (Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, etc.), browsing at Hub is a breeze. The place has a cozy vibe that is more hip local bookstore than Comic Book Guy's shop from "The Simpsons." In addition to new releases every Wednesday from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image and other publishers, there's a healthy selection of small press comics and work created by local artists. Besides selection, where Hub really excels is in its customer service. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and always quick to recommend a new title or graphic novel. Hub Comics is a well set up shop. It has a well stocked selection of Superhero comics, independents, alternatives and comics for Kids, Yes, comics for kids, they still exist, and Hub has them. This place rocks!!! I must admit, if you are there to buy issues, there are some they don't have. But the people there are very friendly(in fact I am friends with the owner)and will always say Hi, or Hey how you doing, unlike some comic stores. If you are there to buy action figures, don't. They have a small selection but they are not rare(meaning you could get them at target or something). Good news if you're gonna buy a trade. If you buy ten trades over ten dollars you get the eleventh free. Not in the same day of course, but they'll put your name on a record and they'll remember you. If you have a dog it will get a treat and you can bring it inside and stuff. It's a big space, and is very neat. You can get DC and Marvel comics and don't be afraid to ask if you can't find an issue or trade- they'll help you right away. If you're looking for comics in Somerville, look no further. read more

Oh Hub Comics. I want to love you. I really really do. I work in Union Sq. and stop by here on my lunch every now and then to find something good and interesting to read. I would go in every day if the crabby guy behind the counter wasn't there each time I go in! Dave, I think his name is, but I could be wrong. Anyway! To hear his whiny "Why would anyone come in to shop, when it's [ good or bad weather]" comments have started to really get on my last nerve. I've spoken to the manager about him in the past and have gotten the "I don't care" attitude, but "I'll mention something to him." Great shop owner was very patient and helped me find excatly what is was looking for. they have some great great back issues for a dallor. Their grapic novel selection is awsome as well. I went there last weekend to buy a trade for a friend's birthday. Isabelle was insanely nice and helpful. They had a bunch of cool stuff and a huge selection of current issues and trades / graphic novels. The only thing it lacked was back issues, but you have to go to the suburbs to find ANY comic shops that carry those. If I still lived in Somerville, Id be in there once a week. read more

I love it that they have a kids corner, where there are child-appropriate comic books and a nice space to read them. It's not frequent to find a comic book place that has serious graphic novels and manga and kids' stuff in a way that you can find what you want without exposing your child to stuff you have to explain awkwardly. (Naked ladies are way easier to explain than political graphic novels showing wars. ) They promote local artists, they look things up when you ask, they have tempting goodies, and they have my name on a list of frequent buyers even though I'm not that frequent. read more

Hub Comics is a true asset to Somerville's Union Square, and I hope they will be here for many years to come. The staff are very friendly and know comic books inside and out. There is an excellent selection of TPS and books. I'm a fan of horror/zombie comics and books, and they have just about every horror/zombie tpb/book out there. Great selection of current titles. Hub is your basic smallish modern comic store. Friendly staff(to all people and genders), decent selection(no back issues), discount on 'pull files'...honestly it's a three star shop but in helping continue the trend against 'The Android's Dungeon' style man-caves that my wife would never want to set foot in they deserve an extra star. read more

Hands down the best comic book shop that I have been to in the Greater Boston area. They have a great comic selection, they have a great system where the graphic novels are divided by subject. I was amazed to see that they had a non-fiction section, which of course makes sense. Of course, you can get more than just comics, toys, games, DVD's etc. Definitely a favorite spot. read more

I've always found what I'm looking for when I come in here (toys, comics, graphic novels, you name it). They have a good selection of back comics as well as current. consistently friendly staff, everything easy to find though I find the genre categories a bit strange at time. has a particularly good selection of children's and YA graphic novels and of some rare arts and illustrated books I have never seen elsewhere. a bit stronger on superhero and action sorts of comics than the arty kind but also has a decent selection of local self-published works. only giving them four out of five stars because only store, by definition, can reach the pinnacle of Million Year Picnic in Harvard Square. read more

I stumbled accross this place to my utter delight- being a comic book collector, and living on Highland ave, Hub comics is very convenient due to its close proximity- and they have an excellent selection of current comics, plus most current graphic novel and trade paperbacks- No much of a back issue collection, but no problem. A great place! Pick up a stack of comics, then wander a block over to Block 11 to read your latest issues. read more

Great staff, very helpful, will order anything they don't have in stock. Also have a great membership rewards type program. Hub Comics is a great comic shop with a fabulous selection of graphics novels.

Hub is my local comics store. I shop here a couple times a month. Super-friendly staff and great selection. Even better, the new ownership has been investing in the store itself: new shelves, better lighting, better organization, and generally better cleanliness. This is not the stereo-typical comic book store. Not weird smells or weird looks from the staff. They have a wide variety of stuff, not just superhero comics. You can bring your non-comics reading significant other in here without guilt. This is a comics shop that is making an effort to be a destination, not just a place to go to pick up the week's new books and walk out. They say that brick-and-mortar comics shop's days are numbered, but as long as there are shops like Hub Comics I think they'll survive. Support these guys, they deserve it. If they add better online pull list and other features to their website, they'll be nearly perfect. read more

Every single time I have visited this place, they were at least a week behind in getting new comics, making them not very useful compared to New England Comics or Million Year Picnic in Cambridge. Nice trade paperback selection, but if they can't carry new comics on time, i don't see the point. read more

Sometimes, a comic book store emerges that just isn't like other comic book stores. A comic book store that sells comics, and doesn't collapse to the pressure of selling where the money is, a la Newbury Comics and their One Direction bobble-heads of doom. Hub Comics is one of those stores. I've been coming to this store since it first opened, and while it didn't become my primary location for getting comics until late March 2013, I have had the good fortune of becoming friends with most of the staff members, and I can tell you that this store is the best run comic book store in the area, second to none in at least the state of Massachusetts, I daresay. Well kept, great selection, always on time with their deliveries, and a very reliable email service that lets you know when a comic from whatever series you follow comes in, if you ask for it. Also, the amount of local content is simply amazing. The storyboard artist for Adventure Time lives in the area, and they have some stuff of his on sale here. I can't recommend this place enough. See for yourself, that's all I can say. read more

Best comic store in Boston. I must admit, I thought the staff was a bit too friendly when it first opened...it freaked me out. But I think they have gotten more laid back since then. Also, the store is arranged into genres, sort of like a regular bookstore. Excellent alternative comix and manga selection. Also, they carry a huge selection of marvel and dc trades. Great for browsing and an all inclusive selection of new books. Pretty perfect. If I would change anything, it would be that they carry some back issues. And maybe some more adults only titles. When I lived by Union Square, having Hub Comics in my neighborhood was a real treat. It's tidy and well-organized, they have a great range of comic genres in stock, and friendly staff. This place is great. I moved to Somerville just a few months ago, and since then I've been making regular visits to Hub Comics. They have an awesome selection (including tons of back issues), the staff are really friendly and helpful, and they have frequent sales. Plus, I'm very happy to be able to support a real local business. Since I've started going there, my monthly pull list has grown quite a bit, and I have the great staff to thank for turning me on to some phenomenal comic series that I hadn't known about before. I've been to a lot comic stores where the workers are real snobs with no patience for anyone new to the world of comic books. But at hub comics, they're down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and just nice guys. Plus, they give great deals. So there's really no reason to not go. read more
