We ate here on a Sunday and they were packed. My wife and I always share and both plates were very good. My wife got the beef, chicken and shrimp fajitas with bell peppers and onions, all grilled to perfection, especially the shrimp. Her two plates also came with rice, pinto beans, guacamole and a sald and some pico de gallo. I enjoyed Tampiquena Nortena, a strip of grilled beef, an enchilada, rice, refried beans and guacamole and salad. They brought us some chips and a red and a green salsa. The red had some spicy heat to it, i liked it, the green was flavorful and milder. The prices are a little cheaper than some of our favorite places and the food is almost as good. read more

Food is very authentic Huasteca style Mexican. Service is good but you go here for the authentic food.

Fast and attentive service. Small establishment with a family ambiance. The food we ordered would all be considered TexMex. They brought out warm chips with the two different dipping choices. One was a green sauce which had a nice cool kick. The other had a creamy texture and was a carrot orange color...not sure what it was but i really liked it. It had to grow on me but once it did, I enjoyed it. Needed salt though. My husband did not care for either one and he normally eats a red sauce with his chips and entree. I ordered mini tacos with shrimp. They had grilled onions and fresh cilantro. The shrimp was very tiny salad shrimp. Not a lot of flavor but okay. Hubby ordered ground beef chimichanga with rice and beans. We didn't try the beans and the rice was bland. Overall it wasn't bad just okay. read more

Vera Cruz in Houston! That's really all you need to know. This place is absolute fire. I only wish they hadn't taken the big molcajete full of seafood away. They have amazing al pastor. A hidden gem, right off 59 and west Belfort. Amazing food the closest I've had to authentic for this being a taqueria its worth the visit. The staff is friendly the location is fairly small but they have ample seating. The food tastes great I've gone back twice for those red chilaquiles since this post went up. At my most recent visit which was on a Friday evening. I was there early and the place had a few customers. The food I ordered was good and flavorful. The rice was fluffy, the beans were very good and creamy. The dish I ordered had steak, onion, tomato, peppers it was really good. The steak was juicy. I almost ate the whole bowl of chips the salsa was so good. They only had the red salsa. I ordered the tea and it was good and tasted fresh. I was impressed. I would definitely come here again if I'm in the area. They need to work on their customer service/hosting. I didn't feel welcomed when I walked in. We enjoyed the chips & red salsa (they didn't bring out green, which is a good thing, after just reading earlier reviews). We ordered a burrito supreme, gorditas with chicken, and tacos with fajita chicken. All were good, esp the homemade flour tortillas. Didn't know they can do wheat till I just read an old review, so next time we may ask for it. Last time, husband came by himself and had a lunch special, which he said was good. This restaurant has a genuine Mexican atmosphere. I've had the enchiladas and parrilladas here. Order the parrilladas! They come with tortillas and you can build your own tacos. At least that's what I do. They don't charge you extra for avocado either so you can put that in your taco. I make like 5 tacos out of one parrillada order. First off, their menu was in Spanish. I honestly don't have a problem with that, as long as the staff can explain what exactly each thing on the menu is or contains. I really didn't know what to order and ended up just getting breakfast tacos. We ordered margaritas which honestly were far from fantastic. I got the bacon and egg breakfast on flour tacos. I really didn't enjoy my meal and the guacamole we requested with our chips was very tasteless. Our food came out really quickly though. I definitely will not be returning here. read more

I really enjoy this place but today for lunch, 9/8/17, I ordered a Torta de Milanessa. Its supposed to come with beans, lettuce, sour cream and avocado. I got one tiny sliver of avocado on one half of the Torta. I showed the waitress and she said the Chef had put it on there and that was all I was getting. If you're going to charge somebody $7 with tax for a Torta you better put everything on it. I won't be ordering this again and probably won't come back a while. Absolute rip off. read more

I've been there several times, Always at nights, every time i go is only a few tables occupied, food is ok, i like the home made tortillas and el caldo de res, they have good breakfast and they served good portions, you wont leave hungry, the staff isn't bad, the only thing is that sometimes they are rude. Love love loveeeee this place, I've literally been coming here since I was little and I can't and won't complain about the food. I enjoy the variety and well the food itself is very delicious, they even have whole wheat tortillas/tortillas de trigo, sometimes. I also love how the waitress are, they like joking around as if your family or old friends and if you go often enough y'all can talk about anything, I'm sure haha, it's also very adorable when they try to speak English with you, some can speak English with you, others will simply try. I also love how the boss is, Maria, she helps out serving and taking orders when the waitresses need help, and she's so kind and caring. I love how they stay open later than most authentic Mexican restaurants (great for when you're done partying or are just hungry at an unreasonable time haha). Yeah, some of the food seems pricey, but heck, it's worth it. Also, if your food is under $10 or $5 (I forget), they charge a 50¢/$0.50 fee, so take cash or don't complain about it. Please remember to tip the waitresses well and if your order ever comes out wrong don't be so rude about it, kindly explain because hello, they didn't cook the food, so just don't get frustrated, and if you feel like they don't understand, help them. I've been to this restaurant twice. I don't go back for the fancy ambiance, I went back for the really good chicken enchiladas (green), the friendly service, and really good chips & salsa. Guacamole was very good, just added some salt & It was great. HOMEMADE FLOUR TORTILLAS!! Asked for one or two more, no problem! Brought them out immediately. So the lady that took our order took forever to arrive with our drinks, about 10 minutes. After dropping off the drinks, she took our order and then proceeded to forget to ring it in. After waiting for about 30 minutes without any service the "manager" came to the table and offered us some shitty queso that tasted like plastic. When we got our food, the rice was bland and my girlfriend received the wrong order. While we were eating a meal, not one person, not even the waiter stopped by to refill our drinks. We had to ask the manager. When we disappointedly asked for our check, there was a $10 automatic gratuity added to the bill. I'm a waiter myself so I wouldn't normally mind, but the service here was crap and she honestly did not deserve anything. Never coming back to this place and you shouldn't waste your time and hard earned money either. There are better Mexican restaurants out there. read more

Save your time and money because this place is AWFUL. I stopped in for dinner with my mom, as we are connoisseurs on Mexican food. There were only 4 other people in there so we took a seat and each ordered a margarita and an order of queso. Once our drinks and appetizer finally arrived, the queso was luke warm at best and the margaritas had no taste of any alcohol in them. Our server could not even confirm if their margaritas even have tequila in them! We ordered food and after waiting 30+ minutes, one would at least expect it to be hot. Unfortunately it was far from being warm. The cheese on the enchiladas was barely melted and the fajita beef was flavorless. Our server asked how the food was and we told her it was cold and tasteless. She merely shrugged her shoulders and mumbled 'yeah'. After asking for the bill multiple times, we received it and discovered the terrible ritas were $7 EACH. Had the service been even remotely decent, I would have gladly tipped but I couldn't even bring myself to leave one dollar. Needless to say, we will NEVER return and will be sharing our experience with friends, family and social media. read more

I was driving by on my way to the Houston Downtown Area. As it is located right on the feeder road of Hwy 59, I figured i would stop by for a quick bite. The food was HORRIFIC and the place also has a ROACH problem! Upon receiving my chips & salsa i noticed the chips were STALED and cold as if they had been refrigerated for days. To top it off there was also a strand of HAIR i found on them!! This place needs to be SHUT DOWN by the FDA! I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Not to mention when I reported the issue, I was screamed at by the manager and told if I did not leave the premises she would call the police. Who does that?! read more
