Still has a very wide variety of merchandise. This year, fewer clothes for men, although curated and sorted very well. Perhaps our visit last year was during a good time, but it seemed inventory was down, and prices were up. The art selections were fewer, and the variety of collectables seemed fewer, too. The quality of merchandise is usually pretty high, but prices have gone up, reducing the perceived value, overall, of the merchandise. There is much junk, but it's easy to comb through. I was impressed for how well organized this shop is. Very spacious with good ventilation and amazing music! I went in and discovered a Boutique towards the back of the shop. Well curated clothing and accessories with higher prices. They don't have a dressing room available but you can try the clothes on top of your clothes do dress appropriately. I was really impressed with this thrift store! I like that for most items it's just a set price. For example men's pants form the regular rack were 3.99- I found my husband PGA tour slacks, Chaps Ralph Lauren, and Jos A Banks pants. They also had one of the better craft sections I've seen in tucson at any of the thrift stores. It's huge inside and well organized. There's almost too much to look at. One of favorite go to thrift stores. Getting a little crowded, but you sometimes get to see fur babies for adoption. While I am more of a PACC person, I do support any animal org (and HSSA has had some serious issues) and we do love the variety of items. Lots of pet items, guaranteed. Because people love animals, they get a lot of merchandise. They have a boutique area in the back for more top of the line items, next to furniture. Also they have an antique area to the right. In the middle right is the kennels for adoptable friends. Some of the middle of the store is getting cluttered, they need to take some time to clean up and reduce, but never know what you will find. Like all thrift stores, selection is hit or miss, if you're shopping for yourself. However, I personally feel like there are a lot of great items to choose from any time I visit, and I visit 2-3 times a month; always different days. One of the most clean and organized thrift stores in Tucson, unless it's one of their big sale days which makes sense why it would be slightly messy. I have found some of my best finds at this store and as someone who is a frequent thrifter that is a statement I don't say lightly. Staff is always friendly and helpful in my experiences at the store. My favorite part of this one as opposed to others is that they have two sections a boutique with slightly higher prices and then their regular section, I appreciate this as it allows them to curate more of their items as opposed to having everything in a jumble. Also, they are one of the few thrift stores that still has a dressing room and if you're someone like me who needs to know how clothing fits in order to buy it that alone sets it above. Not to mention the prices are always fair and instead of individually pricing items everything has one sticker price for each category. Normally, I have such a good experience here. I do all my donations here and I shop here quite frequently. The young man or the older woman that helps with the checkout are always so polite and nice. But today the cashier Angelique R. was unnecessarily nasty and rude. I approached with a smile and asked about a price for a coffee mug, and she very nastily said that if they took the time to price every single item then they would be too busy and that I should know that it is $.99. Then she said that my total was six dollars, but the screen in front of me said 26.91, so I just verified that six dollars was what I was going to pay. She then felt she need to explain to me like I was an idiot that she can do nothing about resetting the screen, and that if I look at the receipt at the end, it will show six dollars. I think she needs to be given further customer service training, to match the same type of energy as the other employees. read more

Not sure what the hype is about this thrift store, it wasn't that amazing, except for the funds to help dogs and cats rescue, etc. The parking very tight and not very plentiful. A parking area right in front of the back was blocked off, not sure what that was about. There is a flat price for various clothing. Prices looked reasonable for the clothing. I'm updating my review to say that the new location is bigger and better than the last location (that I had reviewed)! The footprint of the store is huge! It feels even more spacious and inviting because there's lots of room to walk around aisles and look at things now. The store layout flows well and makes sense. There's lots of varieties of stuff from clothing, books, sporting goods, household cleaners/appliances, tchotchkes, to furniture and more. The quality of the items vary but most stuff is in fine condition. The parking lot is also nice and large and way less chaotic than the last location could be at times. The staff is friendly, as usual, and the overall experience at the HSSA Thrift Store remains pleasant and fun. With the added bonus of finding treasures! read more

As far as thrift stores go, this was a pretty decent one. A huge selection of various items that change probably on a daily basis. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable to where items were in, what groups, and the prices seemed fair. I was super excited to see the new store, I felt a bit let down that it was so small. My dog did love running around (on a leash) and saying hi to everybody, that was definitely a bonus. The store itself felt pretty empty, very neat and the prices were average. I loved all the jewelry, I did not see any good "thrift store" prices. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Casa de los Niños, which sadly closed! I did buy a necklace for six dollars, I would've bought more but for a thrift store the jewelry was too expensive. I also saw a few vintage furniture pieces that were broken or in desperate need of repair for over $40! Yikes. I was in this afternoon and the media is 50% off. There were books in bankers boxes. A reseller was going through the boxes and scanning books, taking what she wanted and putting others back. As she was finishing an employee came and asked if she had finished. She said yes. Myself and another customer started to rummage through the boxes. The employee told us that she needs to take the boxes and left and returned with another employee and a dolly. They took half the boxes stating that they were "special books". Um, ok. When I left the store the employee was at her car with yet another employee scanning the books in the boxes for resale information. I find it frustrating that a reseller was given the opportunity to purchase books but other customers were not. In my opinion not an honest or respectful business model. My cashier, austen was delightful. Kind, efficient and very polite and professional. read more

This review is for the new location that recently opened up. I had been to the previous location that was in a strip mall, and thought it was fine--I really enjoyed seeing some of the adoptable dogs and cats there, but it was getting cramped. The new location is fantastic as it's absolutely huge. It was still definitely in its infancy due to the fact that the inventory was relatively small in proportion to the size, but from what I saw, I was very impressed. I spotted a nearly complete bedroom suite (minus headboard) which is rare even in estate sales, let alone thrift stores. Everything was tidy, organized, and was devoid of funky smell. Although I did not find anything to purchase in my last visit as I did the ones prior, it's nice to know that the funds used to purchase items from here go to helping our angelic, and very furry friends. read more

This thrift store exists in-service to all of the wonderful animals at the HSSA campus off of Oracle Rd. Purchases provide a steady stream of funding to feed and shelter them, and underwrite vet care. Because animal rescue is so important to the Tucson community, lots of terrific donations go to this thrift, which was voted Arizona-best last year! The new location holds much more. read more

Just yesterday I was able to purchase an ENTIRE very gently used (looks almost new off the showroom floor) outdoor living room set that will very comfortably seat 8! I also found a beautiful acrylic set of dishes, drinking glasses & wine glasses too (perfect so if something falls on the brick patio it will NOT break!) All I need to add now are some guests and cheese & wine to serve on my new table! Inventory is richly replenished EVERY MONDAY so the store is CHOC FULL of new items EVERY TUESDAY!!! I can hardly wait until the store opens on Tuesdays! I am usually the first one in the store! AND on Thursdays they offer a substantial senior discount! Why would anyone shop anywhere else??? Yuck this place is just sad and dusty! Your welcome to bring you pet with you while you shop for random stuff. I volunteered there and that was nice until one of my bosses left and a crabby nasty old bald guy named Craig took over! He made volunteering there miserable, I know longer felt welcome and felt like I was going to a depressing little hole in the wall of a shop. He had no social skills and an unfriendly face. I wouldn't bother with going to this place at all since its just sad and dusty and there is a crabby bald guy named Craig working there. This place is very unorganized and others who work there are very rude! Don't bother volunteering or work here because they don't care!!!! read more

That is why I was so excited to visit Tucson... thrift stores galore! If you are ready for a hunt in a trove of unique treasures, look no further than HSSAZ. I spotted brands like Talbots and Ann Taylor, browsed through an endless selection of books, and admired their large display of snazzy jewelry. If you know my reviews I tend to be quite generous to businesses. But this store gets a nicely deserved * star for pathetic customer service. The store has offered less and less interesting items in the last year, and it used to be so good. I like that it's for the Humane Society. I went in and found an item on the shelf, a M*A*S*H bourbon maker, but it was un-priced. At the checkout counter, the clerk examined it ,took it in back, then informed me the people who price check were gone, and he couldn't sell it today, but I could come back tomorrow for it. I asked if they would hold it and he said "no." So I would have to find it on shelf again, if it's still there. I mean, I get it, I guess, you don't want to sell something that could be worth a lot more. But that's a ZERO for customer service, not even offering to hold it for me shows utter disregard for the customer. This one star is for lack of customer service and the hope So thank you for that, I'm sure someone else will buy this item, and I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

This place is phenomenal. I donated some items to them and had a look around. The clothes selection is ok, not too big and not too small. Prices are super low $2.00-$4.00 for shirts, sweaters, dress apparel. You will see a price chart on the wall for certain categories. They also have: - home decor (vases, lamps, etc.) - hiking/outdoor gear (backpacks, plates, etc.) - pet supplies (horse halters, food bowls, bird cages) - furniture (couches, chairs, etc.) - Other (bicycles, purses, and more) I am a fan of this store. Their goods don't have holes or stains on them unlike some other secondhand stores I have visited in Tucson. The clothes they have there are very good quality and I have found some good brands too. The only thing better than shopping at a great, easy to navigate, thrift store, is shopping at one that also supports a great cause! This is one of the easiest thrift stores to peruse if you have just a few minutes to kill. They have a little bit of everything, but not so much that you have to dig and search through clutter. They generally have a wider selection of both outdoor equipment and pet items than other thrift stores in the area, which is great for those of us who love camping and hiking with our pets. If I need something pet-related, I'll generally check here before heading over to Petsmart. That being said, some pet items are a bit overpriced for being used IMO (some things you can find at the 'big box stores' for less), but since it's for a good cause I'll generally cough up a bit more than I would at other thrift stores in the area. My favorite things here are their used books! I love exploring and finding great reads at great prices. .50 cents for paperbacks and 1 dollar for hardbacks can't be beat. They have a great selection of a little bit of everything, and their staff are always more than willing to help you look if you have something specific in mind. read more

Up until the end, our shopping experience was pleasant, we always find nice things at this store. However, when we went to check out the cashier injected herself into our conversation saying she only goes to "nice" stores to shop. This definitely offended the lady behind us, as she spoke up saying there was nothing wrong with shopping at thirft stores. The cashier continued to defend her statement by saying she preferred high quality items and thirft store clothes were inherently dirty. At this point I was beginning to get offended. The other cashier offered to ring up the lady behined us and their argument ended. Once she had finished ringing us up she proceeded to offer my 36 year old mother the senior discount (for people 50 and up). We were obviously red with anger. She picked up on this and tried to fix the situation by saying sometimes she gets mistaken for being 18 when she is actually 26... This lady should NOT be working customer service because clearly her "people skills" are lacking. read more
