While not huge (but not tiny), folks line up before they open at 10 3 days a week, particularly on Saturdays, as they get great donations especially of vintage dishes. This thrift shop is so bright and clean! The quality of the products they sell is amazing and the prices are very fair. It's easy to forget that you are in a resale shop when you look at the displays and the excellent choice of things to buy. They also have wonderful programs that the money from their store supports. They dress school kids, give household products to people who have been recently housed, support assault survivors and give books and Teddy Bears to kids in need. There are always a lot of newly-stocked , high-quality items every time I go in. Every morning at opening there is a long line of shoppers waiting to get to them first. A pick up of donated furniture from a Tucson based non profit was scheduled. The non profit was moving the following week. A day before the pick up they were notified that the Assistance League driver was on vacation but a private driver was available at a cost of $600. One of the finest Charities in the entire area. This group as their main focus.. provide new school clothing for grade school needy children. Just think what it may be like as a second grader starting school when most others in your class have brand new clothes, shoes , backpacks and more. This Charity dressed thousands of Tucson children this year. I am torn about the AL thrift store because it is overpriced as several people mentioned; however, it is very well-organized and clean. I rarely get to come here because their hours are extremely unfriendly to anyone working a normal workday; they're only open 10-2 on weekdays and Saturday and their hours have been further reduced during COVID. You're very unlikely to get a deal here unless they happened to not recognize what they have, because most of the items are so overpriced. It feels like a boutique version of a thrift store. I collect vintage home decor and kitchen items so I have found quite a few nice items here along those lines, as I think the demographic of people donating here are older, well-to-do people (or they are selective about what they put out). All the clothing is styles that would appeal more to middle-aged/elderly folks (Chico's, Coldwater Creek, other drapey things). You're very unlikely to get a deal here unless they happened to not recognize what they have, because most of the items are so overpriced. It feels like a boutique version of a thrift store. Since COVID they started putting items online for pickup and they're even more overpriced than they were in the store to the point it feels like a joke; they're acting like it's a consignment shop or Poshmark at this point. Prices are 3-4 times what they should be for a THRIFT store. Before this I probably would've given AL a 3-4 star review, but seeing how they are marking up items like crazy to sell online really soured me to them. read more

I have witnessed the Assistance League of Tucson operate for many years. They really come through for people.

I was in there recently and they called the cops on a woman who was outside their door asking patrons for bus fare. This store is operated by a CHARITY, and they call the cops on someone who just needs bus fare! Why didn't they give it to her, then she would have left which is apparently what they wanted! I wish I had given it to her, and would have if I'd realized what was going on. These little old rich white ladies are NOT charitable. I've heard other patrons in the store asking them where to go for social services and they say they have no idea. If you're operating a thrift store for a charity, you should be able to answer these questions. All they say is that they "only raise money for poor school kids" (implying that to hell with everyone else including their parents who needs some "assistance"!) I am boycotting this store because of this and hope others will do the same. Also, these rich old white ladies do nothing but talk talk talk to each other at the front counter. Obviously their only social outlet. They also comment on every purchase made by every patron, giving their opinion of how nice it is. You'd think they personally donated everything in there. The prices are double what other thrift stores are, too. These rich old white ladies overvalue everything they sell. It's not a thrift store, it's a resale store. Their heads are in the clouds as far as value of donated goods!! They also will not help you load any furniture because, in their own words "they're old ladies" and "volunteers". Well I' m an old lady too and I can load furniture. (One of them actually said this to me!) If you're gonna sell furniture, you gotta have someone who can load it for the buyers (how do they get it into the store but magically can't help you get it out when you buy it and thereby donate to their charity)--and not just the one husband that works there occasionally and hasn't got the spatial sense to know what will fit in a car trunk or SUV). And by the way, when the cops got there to talk to them about the woman asking for bus fare, these little old rich white ladies called out the husband to talk to the cops because I guess they weren't capable!!! These women have obviously been oppressed by their husbands for so long they can't think or talk or lift heavy things themselves!!!!! Shall we start a charity for them?? Extremely friendly and efficient staff. They do have a mask policy still even for vaccinated customers and staff, which was completely fine with me. Although they have a lot of stuff, the selection was not great which could be because there were many people shopping. Some items seemed overpriced but they do have sticker sales so regulars probably have a routine and can get some deals. read more

The Assistance League, in my opinion, is the best thrift shop in Tucson. There is a large selection of good quality merchandise. The store is always very clean. first of all, I do appreciate that they do good work. however, they seem to think they are an outlet of dillards, or any other non-thrift store store. they are horribly overpriced. sure, they may have some expensive items but....this is a thrift store where items were gotten for free. just because an item was ONCE expensive, doesn't mean it should be sold EXPENSIVELY at a thrift store. people who routinely shop at thrift stores usually shop there because they don't have a lot of money; they are not excited to buy a $200 item for $100, they don't have that kind of money. I have seen the same items there week after week, probably due to over-pricing. some over priced items have been: a package of green, paper dinner napkins at $3, used plastic containers at $2-3, a very nice table cloth at $30, 5 year old 'best sellers' books at $5, someone's used, slightly discolored top at $10. again, this is a thrift store supposedly, not a dillards outlet. I don't care that something was once possibly expensive, that is not the point. a piece of advice: if you price your items accordingly, remembering that you are supposed to be a thrift store, you will sell more volume, giving you more money for your cause. unless it is a 'valuable, rare, antique', it cannot be half its original value, that is not the purpose of a 'thrift store'. again, I appreciate your work. read more
