    Lost Barrio

When you are ready for something different, and uniquely Tucson, come check out the Lost Barrio... I spent a good part of Friday afternoon here, and I'm happy to report that it's incredibly impressive!!! FIrst off, I felt like I was in Santa Fe, (which is one of my favorite places). Upon entering the individual stores, I felt as if I were transported to many nations- all over the world- like a world traveler without even getting my feet off the ground! At the Lost Barrio, you'll find Colonial Frontiers, which imports very cool antique and modern furniture, as well as replicas from (appears to be) mostly India and Indonesia. Furniture, art, and pottery. Their advertisement says, "Antique furniture, folkart, and architectural elements from around the world." From an archeological standpoint, Colonial Frontiers is one of the most interesting stores on the block. This store offers a treasure trove of fascinating artifacts from all over the world. The Lost Barrio is a shopping district where I can honestly say that each store is unique and wonderful in its own right... In one of the stores, La Casa Mexicana- they sell mostly furniture and home accessories from Mexico. When I walked in the door (around 1:30 PM on Friday), the smell of homemade pozole wafted through the air. Turns out the entire family was having lunch in a kitchen area in the front of the store. SO COOL! It made me feel like I was in Mexico. Then I came upon "Hollo Collection," a store that sells antiques (mostly European and American), but also amazingly restores and artistically creates new furniture that truly could pass for antique. While I was browsing in the store, I heard three people speaking French. (I went from Mexico to France)! Brigitte Hollo-Grolig is one of the owners. Although slight in demeanor, she was passionate in telling me how they painstakingly restore old furniture, but also how they create and build replicas from very old past hits (like an extremely comfortable reading chair that was Voltaire's favorite chair). No wonder Voltaire did a lot of philosophizing and reading in this chair- it was amazingly comfortable! If you have furniture that is in need of restoration, or if you're looking for period replicas that look like antiques, Hollo Collection is the place to come. Bottom line, there'a a passion and a magic here that pervades this city block (Park Ave and 12th Street, just east of downtown). I don't know why more Tucsonans don't come here to shop for home furnishings. I was having delusions of grandeur, wishing that the lost Barrio could become like the LoDo district in Denver- with lots of cool restaurants, cafe's, and shops. Maybe it will someday? But today if you come, you'll find a beautiful collaboration of the shop owners' artistic visions (they agree not to sell duplicate merchandise). This translates to a huge selection of unique art and furniture for your home... Individual and quality pieces, that may cost a bit more than mass produced items, but can bring you much happiness over the years in customizing your home with artistic flair. Whether you are a tourist in Tucson, or if you simply want to feel like a tourist in Tucson- I highly recommend that you visit the Lost Barrio. Even if you don't buy anything here, the poetry is in the air... You'll hear it and see it if you have an open mind. An open wallet helps too!

The Lost Barrio is a colorful shopping area in stale Tucson. Just a mile from downtown Tucson, warehouses, Artists' studios, & art shops line the street. Nice art district even though most of the places are for snobs & art farts .

It was soo much fun walking around and seeing all the thrift and vintage items they had. I would come here all the time if I lived close to really spend time looking around at all they have to offer because this place is huge. They even have a downstairs with more items! I didn't even notice the downstairs, but my guy did. I'm soo glad I checked it out because I found a beautiful vintage metal art piece that was perfect in my guest room! I have been looking for a main art piece to hang up for months and couldn't believe my luck!

It's more spread out and cleaner, and the vibes are fantastic. The prices are about average for an antique store. They have great selection but I wish there was more stuff and less furniture just as a personal preference. The people are super sweet and are exactly the kind of people I would want to be friends with. There is a ton of parking in front and in the back. The doors are automatic and there's an elevator and accessible bathroom so the whole building is very accessible. The really designed their new location around being inclusive to everybody and I love seeing that in Arizona. I go here every time I visit Tucson and always look forward to my next trip. Definitely give them some love and check the store out!

No trip to Tucson is complete without a trip to Girlfriends Closet…read more I've walked out with a wool skirt suit for $40, shoes for $20, designer bags and more. Today I bought two cocktail type dresses, a romantic floral faux wrap dress and a cute pair of nude Mary Jane heels for $50. Staff is always fun and accommodating. Did I mention they carry extended sizes through 4x, petites and more? That's super impressive! I've never consigned there, but I'm continually impressed with the quality of the clothes, designer options and incredible prices. I could buy full price but I always find something I like better at Girlfriends Closet.

Time to clean out my closet and found I had both work and casual outfits in need of a new home…read more Positive words on Yelp encouraged me to call Girlfriend's Closet. I spoke to Lisa, the owner, on the phone and we scheduled an appointment to bring in my things for consignment. There is a limit of ten items on hangers (yes, you get your hangers back, lol), and up to five accessories like shoes and purses. My appointment was yesterday and I am impressed with how appealing and attractive the store is. The clothes are quality, in good condition, and in a wide variety of styles and sizes. Lisa was very friendly and helpful, even collecting my things from my car. She explained the contract and the online presence is very cool. The seller can check the status of items at any time! Nice! Parking is super convenient, with spaces right in front of the store and a huge parking lot beyond that. The store is located in the Albertson's center on the NE corner of Harrison and Broadway. My initial experience is worth five stars, and if my things sell, I'll bump up my overall rating.
