Curtie Mullins and his crew did ~$25K worth of work on my home doing some repairs around the house…read moreas well as deconstructing and building an enclosed deck off the first floor of my home. Mistakes will happen of course, and there were many but, when I asked a few times that they be repaired, they were addressed. However, in June 2023 when C&C was finalizing the deck, Mr. Mullins recommended that I use Ronald Owens to install gutter guards around my whole house since gutters were going to need to be replaced due to the new deck. The fee for the gutter guards was supposed to be $600 to which I agreed and included in my payment to C&C. Mr. Owens installed the guards while Mr. Mullins was working on my deck. Afterwards, each time it rained; the rain came down in a sheet of water in the front of my house despite the new gutter guards. I alerted Mr. Mullins to the issue while he was here, and he stated (without climbing on a letter and looking at the guards) that they were covered by debris falling from my trees and that he would return with a blower to remove the debris. He never returned - despite another reminder in person when they were painting my deck, two emails (starting in July 2023), 11 text messages and six photos of the gutter guards. The gutter guards are completely clear - I had perfect photos taken which I shared with Mr. Mullins hence, my pleas to fix the situation. However, he ignored by pleas for help. I have also called Mr. Owens three times, sent five text messages and sent a photo of the gutter guard showing that it is free of debris. Neither company is responding so, the gutter guards were a waste of money and time. In the event it is helpful to know these facts, I am placing them here. Thank you.

As I had no experience in completing such an installation I turned to the contractors for help. After attempting to gain support from 3 other contractors, each of which promised to assist me but failed to call back, I turned to Lauten. The team at Lauten is extremely friendly and expedited the work, obtaining permits, and completing the project so that I could meet my deadline. I am very happy with the overall quality of the installation, and I will be using the company again for my other projects!

It was the best possible renovation experience. Lauten is competent, meticulously honest, and great at staying in communication throughout the project. Drew and his team finished within our tight time frame, despite the fact that we added an exterior project partway through the renovation. Drew's process worked well for us - a few initial walk-throughs, then he brought in his designer to hear our needs and ideas, and she drew up floor plans while Drew created the detailed budget estimate. We sourced many things ourselves (light fixtures, vanities, tile, etc), and Drew was flexible and helpful during that process. Project manager Lisa is a dream to work with throughout the nitty-gritty parts of a renovation - great at keeping the crew and subcontractors on schedule, and readily responsive to all our texts and emails with questions or minor changes to the plan. Lead carpenter Mike and the rest of the crew were excellent, and had the carpentry skills to do several custom projects as part of the reno that give our home a craftsman feel, including adding built-ins in the closets, making a door for a unique linen closet, an old-fashioned transom window in the bathroom, and a beautiful solid wood shelf in our mudroom. We had a great experience working with Lauten and his team, and plan to use them for our next renovation project soon.

The next day he came by and looked at our roof and the following Monday he had sent us three proposals that gave us options to just replace the roof and some suggested upgrade. We let him know that we would be on vacation the following week and wanted to proceed as soon as we got home. The Monday after we returned we received an email that his crew was on the way. Before we had even got home that evening the entire job was completed and cleaned up. I would definitely recommend this company and would use them again.

We highly recommend Dave Hepler of Helper Homes for future prospective homeowners seeking to build…read morea custom home. Working closely with Dave and his team starting in 2021 we presented him with land we had found along with house plans. Building a new home requires motivation, energy and knowing what we envisioned for our new downsized forever home. Helper homes and all of Dave's contractors with Tim from Carter Lumber, Mike with Davenport, Ed at Midsouth Building Supply, and the Floor Shop of Winchester, John at Frederick Block and Joe Hammer the finishing carpenter became our new team to bring this vision to a reality. Dave Hepler and his crew met and exceeded our home details by making sure everything requested was done professionally. The pandemic and post pandemic period in which this house was built required Dave's part adapting to delays, schedule changes and accommodating unforeseen conditions to work with. Communication throughout the whole process was conducted through Co-construct platform and frequent phone calls or meetings to stay informed. This helped us stay within a budget in spite of the increases in building costs. We highly recommend Dave Helper as a builder. He is a man of his word and his reputation in the trades followed him everywhere we met. Thank you, Dave. Our home is now complete October 2023. After a year of moving in and getting settled we are delighted with our new home. We are grateful for you and your team.

Review for Hepler Homes. Our home is 1.5 yrs. old and has been nothing but hell. Four months into…read moreour brand new home, we had so many problems we hired an independent inspector who had a 20+ report of violations or shoddy workmanship. The county had 3 pages of violations/corrections. We reported this builder to DPOR who cited him with 7 violations, including the usage of 5 non-licensed sub-contractors. We could write a book. We built in the mountains. Hepler never shot tangents. He thought the difference between the front to back of our house was 6'. It was 17'. AFTER he excavated and poured our foundation, he called and said he needed an additional 20K to cover the costs. We are on 5 acres and could have easily moved the house IF we had been given the courtesy of being asked. Our upstairs floors heaved and shower all cracked. This was deemed "acceptable" by Dave. Thank god the tile installer had pride in his work, came and fixed the floor, at no cost to us. Our inspector referred to our drywall and tape job as the worst he'd ever seen. Turned out they were one of the unlicensed. Eight months into our home, an entire crew was necessary for a week to redo the job. The clean up was horrible. Investigate your builder as best you can. Many are hiring cheap labor. The builders don't charge you less, they just pad their pockets.

The first was wallpaper removal and drywall repair in a large kitchen - it was a horrible job that we started ourselves and then turned over to Jim and his crew. They did a wonderful job, got it done quickly, and the price was very fair. So a few months later when we had a large job they were the first company that we contacted. Jim quoted us a very reasonable price and promptly got to work. We had them paint several rooms including a large 2-story room and ceiling, trim, drywall repair, and whitewash a 2-story fireplace. They also changed a large foyer chandelier which involved getting scaffolding - not a small feat. Jim and his crew were always on time (or called to let me know if they'd be a bit late), always courteous, cleaned up after themselves, and were so patient with my constantly adding things to the job.
