I had shopped around for Contractors while my mom was being moved into a nursing home. Mom's house was in ok shape but it was in serious need of some updating. I decided to go with Two Poor Teachers as they had answered all my questions and assured me that the work would be done before I had to sell the house. We had agreed on a remodel bathroom upstairs and downstairs and pull up the carpet around the house and redo the hardwood below it. Ken was very nice and took the time to listen to my concerns and gave his honest opinion about replacing the hardwood floors or just redoing them which is always helpful during a remodeling. I met them at the house at 8am on the following monday and after a brief walk around and talk work started. I couldn't hang around due to helping my mom sort everything out but I left them my number and said please call if anything comes up. After Day 1 I swung by and saw they had removed all the carpet and nails from the floors and had removed the tile from the bathrooms. Everything was looking good and even the dumpster outside where they threw the old carpet away in was acceptable. As in the past I've had contractors just throw stuff all over the place if it lands in the dumpster it does if it didn't well they will get it later. Day 2 comes around and the crew is there at 8am again, working on the bathrooms now. Ripping out sinks, toilets and removing that ugly 80s bathtub my mother loved so much. I actually stayed around this day for a bit and watched in awe as they took both bathrooms down to the studs, then swept up and made sure all the trash was in the dumpster. Day 3 started just like day 1 and 2, they started tiling the floors, installing new sinks, toilets and tub/shower. Around 3pm they were done with installing everything and all that was left was a fresh coat of paint and a walk around. They started on the ceilings first putting down 2 coats and calling it a day. Day 4 the painters showed up only and finished both bathrooms and the little touch ups here and there around the house. Ken showed up after and we did a walk around, I was very impressed with how fast and professional this whole process was. I've only remodeled 1 room in my entire house and that was a nightmare from hour 1. The fixtures were all installed correctly, tile looked like a millions bucks and the new paint really helped this once dated house look not so dated. I couldn't recommend Two Poor Teachers enough to anyone who wants to remodel their house. The house sold 2 weeks later for full asking price thanks to the hard work put down by Ken and his team. read more

We just completed a kitchen renovation with Two Poor Teachers on our VA home. The renovation involved reconstruction of a kitchen island, moving an island stove to a counter location, new island cabinets, new countertops, and rerouting the oven exhaust, including drywall and ceiling repair work. This company was the only one willing to take on my project/mess of a kitchen in my home. I had multiple other contractors look at it, all of them refused for various reasons. The project manager first put me in touch with their crew that replaced my two rotted walls in the kitchen from busted pipes. After this work was done it all began to come together nicely. First the cabinets were removed, floor was pulled up, and the plumbing was all re-routed. The crew also cleaned up after each day, which I requested since I have a lot of allergies. Everything went well with the install, had some work emergencies which affected the crew and scheduling. After a year of dealing with a leaking toilet and having to look at turtle wall paper in my bathroom I had enough. I wanted a modern style bathroom and after talking with Two Poor Teachers about my situation and having hem come out to look at what I was dealing with, their project manager walked me through their process and what could be done. They started right away after we settled on a design and new fixtures. The toilet, sink, faucet and shower are all new now. They tore the bathroom down to the studs and replaced everything that was damaged. My new marble tile floor and tiled shower it light years ahead of what it was before. Had them rebuild our kitchen after we had a leak from the roof that was rotting out the cabinets and floor in the corner. Insurance takes a long time and the team was very understanding and gave us the quotes we needed for the work. The tear out and removal of the old bad cabinets and floor was quick. All the patch work and fixing of the floor was done next and then came the new cabinets. It was amazing to come home each day and see the progress and how it was coming along. After it was all done we have a updated kitchen with new floors. Very happy with the job that they did and we would rehire them if we need more work. read more

After almost a year of having my kitchen remodeled I wanted to update on the quality and craftsmanship of Two Poor Teachers. First off I am glad we went with a ceramic tile, easy cleaning and upkeep make the floor look like new every time I walk into the kitchen. Looking over the grout lines, caulk and paint, everything has held up perfect. The best part about the kitchen is the soft close cabinets, before my kids were always slamming them and our kitchen was full of noise. Now all is quite in the kitchen when someone grabs a glass for water. I would use Two Poor Teachers again for my future remodeling needs. read more

Update: Solid work done on our bathroom remodel after time has passed and all the grout has set it looks even better now. Old Review: Our bathroom had issues for years and we finally had it fixed. We had a jacuzzi tub installed with a heated tile floor. It is an amazing feeling to have the warm floor when you step out of the shower. New high flow toilet, vanity and lighting. The process was easy and the project manager kept it all on track and cleaned up any mess they had each day. I was a little scared going into it as this was my first remodel but they came highly recommended from a friend and they did a terrific job! The crew were well trained, they were efficient and pleasant. Quick update on our bathroom remodel we had done by Two Poor Teachers. The bathroom still looks amazing, we did get some hard water stains on the glass shower but we found out how to clean it and ended up getting a new water softener in the process. I was on the fence about the color choices we made but well after the year we had it all done I love it. Two Poor Teachers installed a shower stall and removed the tub. They put in a handicapped toilet and new vanity with sink. They put handicapped bars in the shower and next to the toilet. They were very fast and clean up was done ready-to-use. I am very pleased with the ceramic shower and the new tiled floor.
