We worked closely with Brian all the way through the process, and found him to be very accommodating of our needs. We had some things we wanted to do that were different - such as using geothermal heating, adjusting some features to accommodate what we anticipate may be needed as we age, and the like. We found Valley Builders to be a very high quality builder. I was also very pleased with how easily Brian accommodated changes - in some cases, we arranged the changes separately from our contract, in other cases, they were incorporated into the contract. We made some changes in suppliers that went smoothly as well. We're delighted with how our home has turned out.

There were a number of red flags: an estimate where the items didn't add up to the total; a "contract" with no Scope of Work (as mandated by DPOR); and an insistence of having our construction loan go to closing before he'd even submit the Building Permit. This was after I'd offered to pay for the permit out of pocket; and his initial assurances that he wouldn't have much to do with the financial side of things. Supposedly, he has 12 years of experience in the field, but if that's true, why did I have to provide a blank contract template; and then try to convince him of its necessity? A good contract protects all parties involved - that's true no matter what industry, location, or people involved. Looking back on emails exchanged, I can clearly see he took offence at a lot of what I said -made it personal - when this was just about the business of building our house and putting together a decent contract. HIs non-cooperation and insistence on " it's more relaxed in Shenandoah County than in NoVA" is just an excuse for lazy and unprofessional behavior. And it's rude for him to have said that to me, a potential customer; and it wasn't the first time he'd made snide comments. He definitely took offense to something about me - whether it's because I'm a woman, educated, or simply wanted him to work outside his comfort zone - I don't know. Fortunately, none of those are my problem; and I'm very glad I decided NOT to waste any more of my time with him. It's Builders like this that give every other builder or contractor a black eye.

We first spoke to Darren in December 2024 and shared with him our dream and our Sad sketched out plans. Darren took our dreams, answered our questions and made helpful suggestions and presented as with an amazing plan. When we told him we weren't ready, he did not pushy nor did he bombard with follow up contact. We let him know when we would like him to reach out again and he waited until that date. We met with him four other times to go over the budget and our plans. When we let him know that cost was an issue he helped us sort through ways to make our dream house a possibility closer to our budget. Sadly, in the state of our economy, we had to push our plans to build. Once again they understood and asked when he We wanted him to contact us again. Again, he was not pushy, yet understanding even though we are not currently building when we do we will be calling Darren being able to be respected and understood. The contractors -- Roberto, Nico, and Juan -- were AMAZING. The work they did was so well done. They are so talented, and we have really enjoyed having them here as they renovate our bathroom.
