I needed 3 hinge recesses done, as well as a striker plate recess. I was taking my left hand out-swing door, and making it a right hand in-swing door. A task for even the most basic diy'er. I simply didn't feel like getting out my wood chisel to do the job. So, I figured I'd hire someone who could, just as easily (with the right tools) have the job done in under 10 minutes. I wasn't needing patchwork done. I didn't need paint. No threshold to adjust. Nope. Just the recess for hinges and a striker plate. Child's Play. Bruce was the "Craftsman", who apparently, gave the quote for my job. $255.00 That's not a typo. That's actually the quote I received for this job. Stop laughing, guys! Seriously. While it is laughable, I want to know, who thinks THAT highly of themselves? Come on. Needless to say, they were not hired for this job, and I certainly won't be contacting them for any future jobs, either. Instead, I retrieved my chisel from the garage and had the door switched in under 30 minutes, on my own. I guess I hold the title of "Craftsman" now, too. I've included photos of our texts. It clearly shows the ridiculousness. Last thought: Do yourself a favor, and pick up a book, watch YouTube, or talk to your dad before hiring someone like this. Most home improvement jobs really are quite simple if you just take the time to educate yourself properly. This company never knew what others had estimated for the job, as it was never discussed with them. They did, however, go through my other reviews to find what another company was charging. That's the only way they'd know. 2. Coming in at $255 for this particular job does not make them the hero of this story. It makes them just as self- serving as the other company. 3. I'd never dismiss someone's experience or education in the home improvement field, as I, myself have over 15 years of it. (That shouldn't be relevant to receive fair pricing) To include, woodworking. He handled all communications regarding costs and the operational side of things. Although the relationship started off fine, things boiled over at the end regarding a specific crew issue, and he handled it extremely unprofessionally. In his email response to us, his tone was extremely condescending and insulting AT BEST. At worst, it smacked of something else. We were interested in moving forward with another project in the near future, but because of how he spoke to us at the very end, we will never consider going back to them. I doubt the company even cares.

You can discuss design alternatives throughout the process. He listens and provides the pros and cons. He will go out of this way to ensure you are happy with the result. The name Fine Line Constructions speaks for itself. Blaine's attention to detail is amazing. He will spot imperfections and fix them before you even notice the problem. And on those rare occasions when you are not 100 percent pleased with the result, Blaine will address the issue without question. I am not sure what our next remodeling project will be, but when hiring a General Contractor our first choice will be Fine Line Construction.

Over the past year and a half they've masterfully completed several jobs for us, and we have them on the books for several more. They have dug out and installed french drains with sump pumps as well as repaired and painted walls, ceilings, and brickwork. All of these things were done expertly. But the most significant work they've done was to create, from the ground up, an addition to our house. We call it an addition, a sunroom, our new "hang out all day" room. A 14x16 vaulted ceiling with support beam masterpiece, the casement windows are all handmade with the finest craftsmanship and care. They spent hours, days and weeks measuring, sanding, staining, painting, glueing, nailing, and appraising. Perfection was the goal and it was accomplished over and over again. We were especially appreciative of the creativity and thoughtfulness with design and vision: Blaine especially was adept at providing the many options involved in all aspects of the job to choose from - such as tile material and color to stain shades - and then, when asked, gave his highly informed and relevant ideas and opinions. And when supplier issues and delays occurred as they always seem to these days they were undeterred and never rushed nor took shortcuts. They were always punctual, courteous, and up front with all details and accounting. Our cost overages were insignificant. We couldn't be happier with them and their work, and the end result was well beyond what we expected.
