My escrow successfully closed today, and I truly wouldn't be here without Oscar Sosa and Mireya Rodriguez at HSBC. I was recommended to Oscar after visiting an open house about half a year ago. I was exploring financing options, and ironically, City National Bank turned me away and never followed up. Oscar was the opposite -- he actually cared. I didn't qualify at first, but months later, Oscar reached out and asked if I was still interested in buying a home. That message changed everything. From that point on, Oscar and Mireya guided me through every step with patience, clarity, and genuine care. They never gave up on me, even when the process felt overwhelming. Thanks to their dedication, my family now has a home we never thought we'd be able to achieve. read more

I had a great! experience working with Oscar and Mireya at HSBC during my first home purchase. As first-time buyer, I had a lot of questions, and Oscar was always incredibly helpful and patient every step of the way. He made sure we understood everything and was always available whenever we needed guidance. What really stood out was their constant communication, I was never left wondering what was happening. They kept myself informed throughout the entire process, which made everything feel smooth and stress-free. Even more impressive, they helped me close in just 17 days! That kind of efficiency and dedication is hard to find. I truly felt supported from start to finish, and we couldn't have asked for a better team to help through such an important milestone. Highly recommend Oscar and Mireya to anyone looking for a reliable and responsive loan team! read more

Working with Oscar Sosa throughout this process has made a significant difference in how we've experienced this entire journey. From the very beginning, he has gone above and beyond in guiding us through each step, making what could have been overwhelming feel much more manageable. One of the most valuable things Oscar has provided is clarity. He didn't just answer our questions, he took the time to explain things in multiple ways until we truly understood. That level of patience and professionalism made us feel comfortable asking anything, knowing we would receive thoughtful, thorough answers every time. It built a sense of trust that is hard to come by in such a complex process. Buying a home is supposed to be exciting, and it is; but it also comes with a lot of stress. This is one of the biggest financial decisions we'll ever make, and there are moments of uncertainty, pressure, and doubt. What made the difference for us was having someone like Oscar who consistently helped ease that stress. He was available when we needed him, responsive at all hours, and always willing to walk us through concerns until we felt confident moving forward. (Even the questions derived from doom scrolling on TikTok) Ultimately, our decision to fully commit to this process came from the level of commitment Oscar showed to us. His 24/7 availability, dedication to educating us, and genuine effort to make sure we felt secure in every step gave us the confidence to move forward. He didn't just process a loan, he supported us through a major life decision, and that made all the difference. Such a nice feeling to be confident in our decision because of the knowledge passed on. read more

Went through several lenders who wasted my time before working with Oscar and Mireya at HSBC. Not only did they help me get a grant but they were able to expedite the process so I could go into escrow before the holidays and close early Jan. Would highly recommend. read more

Highly recommend Oscar Sosa and his team for first time homebuyer and other mortgage lender programs. He was to the point and very responsive to all my questions. We got a loan in great time and through a straightforward process. I'm super happy and grateful to have his help and perspective! read more

Oscar, my son's loan officer, and Mireya, his assistant, were nothing short of phenomenal. My son entered into a 30-day escrow with the seller. About 10 days into it, the original loan officer with a different bank quits his job, leaving us in a panic. Our realtor found Oscar at HSBC. Oscar and Mireya performed miracles at warp speed and on top of that they were great communicators who also quickly responded to our texts, phone calls and emails. They helped my son through every step of the process. On top of it, HSBC has some great loan programs in certain cities, which he was able to take advantage of. It was a great experience with Oscar and Mireya, and without them, my son wouldn't be on his way to owning his own home! read more

I am incredibly thankful for and would highly recommend working with Oscar Sosa and Mireya Rodriguez. They both have gone above and beyond for my wife and I throughout the loan process. Both are very knowledgeable and quickly answered any questions my wife and I had, which put us at ease. Oscar explained the Community Works grant program to us and we feel that this program was a godsend. My wife and I are incredibly grateful such a program exists. We are especially amazed at how astonishing Mireya was in getting our loan to the finish line. She stayed on top of everything and followed up with us to make sure everything went smoothly. read more

Highly recommend working with Oscar Sosa and his team. I reached out to him in the middle of escrow after some frustration with my other lender. Oscar and his team were on from the word go. Oscar not only secured at a competitive rate but was also able to get is a grant on the loan. They were very professional, and got to closing within 15 days, right on time. Best decision we've ever made. read more

Do not make same mistake as me, HSBC is the worst. They lie about the investing bonds and then do not want to take responsibility for the misinformation and make their client whole. It is already 3 months and they have not yet return what they stole. read more

I highly recommend the employees who work here. Specifically, I recommend working with Mr. Oscar Sosa. Oscar helped us secure a loan for our mortgage, and was timely and knowledgeable. Initially, we struggled to get the process started. Once Oscar got involved, he connected us with HSBC's first-time home buyer's programs. From there, it was smooth sailing. Thanks for your help! read more

Today (April 11th, at around 1:40PM), I called HSBC Irvine office and was put on hold for approx. 30m minutes by Kenneth (or Kent?), who actually never came to back to talk me again. I was interested in HSBC's international banking system, but decided not to open an account with them anymore after the extremely disappointing experience. read more

I never physically visited this location, but I'm very impressed with the bank in general... mostly due to the $450 Welcome Deposit offer I signed up under. Opened the account in Oct 21, and received my bonus in March of 22 after fulfilling the direct deposit requirement. I really enjoyed instantaneous bank to bank transfers, once the initial transfer completed successfully (which took about 3 business days). Unfortunately, I enjoy the online experience from another bank more, so I closed this account, however, I'd consider returning under a similar promotional offer in a couple of years read more

The front desk is rude to every Asian. She never takes responsibility and kept rolling her eyes, leading you to take high risk action.

Needed to close out an inactive account for my parents. The account was setup 50 when it was Midlands bank in UK. Trying to talk to someone over the phone in UK was not going the way we needed. Do we went down to the branch in Irvine. Terrance Chen spent 2.5 hours on the phone with us to get the account closed and money transferred to the US. We really appreciate Terrance and the manger that helped us out. She was very accommodating to my parents. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I walk in and all they have is a small table with two ladies and 4 chairs for a waiting room. We couldn't pay our rent online and we aren't sure why. Could be on their end but I won't blame them for that because I'm not sure why it wouldn't go through. So I had to drive 30 mins to get to their bank to deposit. I walk in with the check and deposit slip. They tell me to go sit down. Ummmmmm ok ? That's never happened before in my life. I really really need to use the restroom and I ask if they have one. Nope. Not for you. Then later she comes over and tells me that they don't accept checks for people's rent !!!! What ?? I am trying to make a deposit !!! Does anyone know if this is standard practice or way out there? In my opinion anyone should be able to make a deposit if they know the account and name of the account. Then later she says that she will be going to the back to make the transaction this one time. I told her we tried online and that's our preference anyway..... I am not sure why anyone would bank here.... It was Such a poor experience that even a day later I'm super motivated to warn people. They were doing construction of some kind and I'm not sure about what the plans are.... But they should have maintained the ability to take a deposit in front of me. read more

The worst bank ever! If you don't want to lose money, don't bank with them. They provide unprofessional services by having only a few bankers in this branch. Let customers wait endlessly. When you finally meet a banker and they try to help, they need a higher authority approval and their manager won't help you. Their online customer service doesn't help also. With the limited branch numbers, it's not surprising to hear that they will close retail banking with HSBC new structuring. Close your account if you don't want to move to an East side bank management. Very unhappy and do not recommend. read more

So, I needed a bank for my new job, and I was told about this bank. I looked them up and saw this location, great! I get there and was seen by this man in a suit, he did not greet me or my husband. He came over, and acted as if we weren't good enough to bank there. He refused to talk to me, but would talk down to my husband. But he did eventually shove us onto a woman. I'm omitting her name as she wasn't exactly the whole problem. We were asked if anyone told us about them, and we said yes. We were then asked for the number, and until the end of our trip there, we were hounded for that number. I was never given a number. We asked what the start up fee was, and we were given a run around. We were only told we could give cash or check, but never an amount. Then, my ID doesn't my newest address, and so my husband thought we could open a joint account (since his license is updated) and we were told no. That we had to have separate account so I could refer him so I could get referral money, and he wouldn't get anything. Then they needed a proof of address for me since my ID is not updated. I saw this coming. And when my husband said most the mail is addressed to him (with exception of certain bank statements, and most packages) because his name is on everything. The man and the woman seemed shocked by that fact. Wherever the woman and us went, that man followed us. She also found it quite adorable that I didn't recall my social off the type of my head, and in a polite way told us to leave. Very rude, and not very welcoming of people who are non-Asian. I've never been treated this way by any Asian person - child, female, adult, elderly person - in my life. It wasn't just my husband and myself. Other Asians walked in and were greeted and promptly saw too, an older white man (maybe half Hispanic?) wasn't greeted and was promptly shooed out of the bank. Terrible. Opened an account at a different bank. All walks of life there, all being seen and taken care of. That's how banks should be. read more

I dont understand if they have "working staff" at this bank. We have been waiting here for 45 minutes but still there is no services. It surprised me that there were only my husband & I are guests. They had requested for an appointment, but we are not nearby to be back. Thinking of closing this bank's account. read more

My experience at this particular branch was so satisfying that I felt it deserved a glowing review. After some horrendous service from Citi Bank I decided to give HSBC a try being that it is local to my house. Immediately, I was greeted at the door with a pleasant smile and was asked what they could do for me! It's little things like this that as a customer I appreciate. Even though the branch was full of people I was referred to Mia Pham to help get started on establishing my LLC. I had every expectation of this process being painfully slow and not fun. However, Mia was incredibly helpful and concise with all the relevant paperwork that needed to be taken care of. Her expertise in her field was clearly head and shoulders above any other banking representative I've ever dealt with. She even found a way to save me money on transfer fees just by having both a personal and business account with the bank! It's safe to say that I will continue banking with HSBC and will certainly take care of all my sensitive transactions at this branch because of the great service that Mia provided. read more

I'm only giving ONE star because I couldn't give ZERO. By far THE WORSE bank known yo man. I opened both checking & savings accounts. Had my direct deposit set up from my Emoloyet. I went to with draw money , ATM card was capturd. I was told account were suspended for suspicious activity. I asked whst kind and if I could vetofy activity they declined to give me any informatiob. It's been 10 days without access to my money or accounts. I called again today. They told me it will be an additional 60 days before they have a tespinse. I said what are you looking gif or how cab help as my rent has still not been paid for the month. He said "sorry". I don't know who ti call or what to do. What kind of $%@^ operation are they running here? I came here to speak with a banker regarding an account issue. I e-mailed the banker to make sure he was there. He replied back and said come by any time and so I headed right over. I signed in at the front and waited. No one else was in front of me and a representative came over 2-3 times to check the sheet and walked away. Didn't greet me, didn't ask if I needed help. After ONE HOUR of waiting, I e-mailed the banker again to see if I should have made an appointment with him. I was finally escorted back to his cubical. Literally 5 minutes into talking, two women barged in and started asking him questions about opening an account. They were obviously wealthy, inpatient, and entitled. The banker said he'll be with them shortly. They said okay and just stood there. The banker then turned to me and said, "I can finish this up without you, let me take these folks". What.the.eff With crappy customer service, combined with crap clientele, and the most inconvenient operating times (Monday - Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm) it's no wonder this place has 1.5 stars. If it wasn't for a huge presence in Asia and the loaded hordes of mainland Chinese in the Irvine area, this branch would not be in business. Stay away. read more

Save your money into an publicly toilet. They don't care! NONE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Only at HSBC. Here, Irvine has ten thousand clients, only at this bank. Please tell me what bank does not have tellers that can do cash transactions???? RIDICULOUS!!!

This bank keeps messing with my life. Did my last review talk about the car or my China issues? Well they are at it again this time sabotaging my tuition funds. I hope automation completely wipes out their retail operations. These people are despicable in that a lot of the stress you get here is not due to technicalities of banking, it's that they really do not have any intent to help you. They wouldn't cash my checks for tuition so I literally asked them, "so can you advise me on how to resolve this issue?" Their LITERAL answer was no. I even handed the teller an answer on a plate, "so I should resolve this outside and come back to deposit the funds, right?", to which she shrugged and declined to give any answer. When I called the issuing bank on how to get my checks cashed they told me I just have to be stern with them and ask for the manager because it sounds like they have no idea what they are doing. This bank would be gone if not for all the shady China money they are facilitating in this area. edit - I returned after getting the receipts for these checks from the person who bought them. They still would not cash the checks, and they talked to me as if I was trying to defraud the bank. At no point beyond the greeting was I treated as a customer. This branch has a lower rating than restaurants that literally give people diarrhea for good reason. read more

I'v been banking with HSBC over a decade, started my first account in Italy, always happy with their service

Very good experience for me. The reviews for this branch are not great, but I showed up as a walk-in to take care of some business and despite being very busy Jack O'Brien took care of everything I needed. He was fast, friendly, and professional. He took the time to explain the products and make a recommendation. Excellent experience with an excellent banker today. read more

The One-Liner: Make an appointment and be pushy. The Main Course: Though there's long waits at the teller I imagine it's due to this branch dealing with many foreign accounts and transactions. My issue is with the arrangements to see representatives. This place fills up pretty fast and as the seats in the waiting area start to get crowded people begin to walk up to the cubicles and just lurk until they get service. There's a sign in list but this goes out the window pretty quickly. I arrived at 10:30am on a Tuesday and the chaos was already in full effect. Parking: plenty of parking in this mall read more

Slowest service. There can be a very short line of one or two but will take long as if the line was a dozen deep. And they never have all 3 tellers available. The times I have gone I'm lucky to have 2 tellers to move the customers along. HSBC itself has the worst systems and service. In person, online, chat, phone, all but problems. I would never recommend opening any accounts with this bank. read more

This is the worst bank I've ever had. (We've had business with around 10 banks) One day, we received a phone call from our customer saying that they cannot wire money into our account because it is closed. With doubt, we called our bank and found that they've closed our account without ANY notification. They said, they did, but we DID NOT. No letters, no email, no phone call, they just closed our account. Any business owner knows how damaging this can be for the company. We went to this branch to ask for the reason, they couldn't provide any good reason, they just simply said their headquarter decided to close our account. No sincere follow up, no apology, totally not care about their customer. The service is just terrible. Yes, if you plan to open an account with this bank, be prepared that they might kick you out any time without letting you know. My Conclusion: terrible bank to trust your money with. read more

DO NOT BANK WITH HSBC. It stands for the "Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation" which it should probably stick with those markets. They are intrusive, condescending, and have no concept that your money, time, and business should serve you - NOT THEM. Want to withdraw $5000 from the bank? They'll want a reason. If they don't like your reason, then you can't have your money. They can go screw themselves. Bank with your local credit union or a decent AMERICAN owned local bank. Do not deal with these people. read more

I had a horrible experience at this bank. My 87 year old grandfather who has major hearing loss has an account with this bank. I tried to change his address over the phone. A call center in India made it extremely difficult to update his address, to update his address took 1 hour!! Next, we went into the Irvine branch (closest branch from South Orange County), after a 30-40 minute drive and they said he didn't have enough identification to make any changes. Then when my grandfather needed to use the bathroom, one teller said no, walk across the street to CVS. When I got obviously upset because my grandfather can't walk very far, the other teller let him use their bathroom. We are returning tomorrow to close his account and I already assume we will have difficulty doing so, I'm dreading the whole experience!! Terrible bank, stay away!!!!! read more

I had two encounters with this bank location in Irvine and my impression was that they will not go above and beyond their work. They have little interest in customer service or customer value. For a small bank that does not appear to be filled with clients, the people are not efficient and they try to work based on appointments only. This is the only bank that I've been to that does not see the potential in a new client, will not open accounts within 10 minutes of closing time, works based on appointments only, and requires you to fill out a form that documents how much money you have in all of your bank accounts before speaking to you regarding your needs. I understand not all HSBC branches work this way but this is one branch that needs a make-over. My home branch in Canada with a different bank (CIBC) makes sure a client is completely satisfied before the client leaves the branch and I have even had my branch manager stop me on my way out because she felt that the teller's performance was inadequate. The HSBC local branch in Irvine has a lot to do before meeting any respectable customer-service standards. read more

My wife and I are doing business overseas and we're directed to this bank for synchronized funds exchange between our US account and abroad. A complicated process for sure, but the online customer service was extremely helpful. They directed us to this branch and they have been very helpful, courteous and professional. We have only been here twice with a third time today in the past three weeks, all to finalize this inter country connection. After that, we do suspect we will need to come in too often after that. The app is very to use. So all in all I feel this branch properly represents HSBC in total. read more

I recently closed my account with HSBC at this location because there is no FREE basic checking anymore. $3 monthly maintenance fees are ridiculous. Anyways, I was super happy with them when I was in Asia - Shanghai, China to be exact. There were not that many ATMs where I was but I managed to utilize the one closest to me - it was like a 15-20min walk. The biggest thing that I enjoyed about this bank was that whenever I used my debit card, they would not charge me international fees and what not. That was hugely appreciated and the money exchange rate would be the best as compared to exchanging money at a real branch. (Because it is subject to commission fees and the days exchange rates) Overall, I was happy with HSBC except it was annoying how you have to keep a min of $500 in the savings acct and they charge you if you dont ($3). I got deducted like $12 because it was at $499! Stupid. Too many fees HSBC! You lost my business. read more
