The brick wall is directly against the wall of a neighboring high-rise building, so we did not have a lot of flexibility as to what we were allowed to do. We could not re-point the entire wall, so Ahmed selectively scraped around all of the holes and refilled them with new mortar. Another challenge was that we had no idea what the brick wall had originally been sealed with over twenty years ago. So Ahmed tested a couple of nontoxic sealers on the wall to see what would work. Then he sealed the wall with two thick coats, letting the first coat dry for over 24 hours before putting on the second coat. There were a lot of challenges with this project and Ahmed listened to our concerns and provided us with solutions for our particular situation. He was kind, calm, polite, and communicative, always texting to confirm appointments and letting us know when he was en route. He worked quickly and diligently and was a stickler for quality and precision. It was a pleasure working with him. It's been almost 7 months since Nick and his team repaired and waterproofed the outside wall of our basement. We've had a number of rain storms and wet weather since our repair that previously would have resulted in water in our basement, however Nick's work has held up extremely well and our basement continues to remain totally dry. Prior to calling N.A.D., I spoke to a number of contractors who presented me with theories about why water was coming into our basement when it rained. When I called Nick, he came to our house, looked at our basement wall both from inside and outside the house, and confidently explained the cause of our problem to me. I figured a short drive for him would result in a slight savings for me. I asked him for an estimate over the phone but he insisted on coming over?!?!?! He exclaimed a minimum of 2 men are required and it will take all day! REALLY? His estimate to CLEAN the debris from the roof gutters (3 sides) came to $750! REALLY? Honest business here? I then asked him what it would cost to clean my next door neighbor's roof gutters so that I can capitalize of some economies of scale here. The estimator then lowered his price to $450/house. REALLY? To make a long story short, I went with a STATEN ISLAND guy that gave me quote over the phone after sending in my house pic and he quoted me $175/house!!!! He came out the same day I called, got up on the roof, and showed me the old membrane along the parapet walls was peeling off, letting water in behind it. That explained the leak. The job was done just 5 days after the inspection, even with a skylight that had to be special ordered. Jorge and his crew did the work. They showed up at 8:30am and worked until 7:20pm to finish in one day. Jorge was friendly and happy to answer questions, and even after such a long day they took time to inspect everything and cleaned up after themselves.
