Hubby and I were out and about in the Mccully area today and finally had a chance to check out the test kitchen in Mccully shopping center. Our first stop was this gem of a bakery. We got there before 12pm, which is there open time, and saw Bronson busy decorating a cake. He greeted us was a lot of Aloha. We chatted for a bit and he told me that they were out of a few things but there were still lots of yummy things to try. Since we hadn't eaten yet I didn't want to go too crazy with the treats. We got a strawberry cupcake and on original cheescake. Let me just say WOW! When I tell you that cupcake was soft that is just the beginning. It basically melted in my mouth. The cream was delicious and tasted just like fresh strawberry. Bronson did make it a point to let me know that this particular cupcake was dairy free along with several other flavored cupcakes they offered. It was topped with fresh strawberry and had a small amount of strawberry jam inside. It was amazing! The chesscake was Japanese style. It was light and fluffy an oh so good. I picked up a shio pan and espresso chocolate cake for $10 (both items) the cake was very moist and delicious and im not much of a chocolate person. i didnt try the shio pan just yet but i thought it was smaller than other places. Hitomi (Owner and Baker) informs me she has other flavors indicating the local folk in Honolulu like her Mango and Passion Fruit flavors. I will try one of those flavors next time I have an occasion to purchase a special cake. As a side bar I learn Hitomi has a store located in the Marco Polo where other baked items are available for purchase. The store has restricted hours so I've yet to get a schedule to stop in however, it is on my hit list for next time I need special gifts. Her store is located in the Marco Polo condominium on Kapiolani Blvd. A definite must try if you haven't already. The cake runs about $50. But a infamous local pies run about $40. I called ahead and it went straight to voicemail so I figured they were busy with customers. I arrived and they had a single bag of a 6 pack of cookies and two "muffins" for sale. That's it. It was 1:30 PM, how are they already sold out? Even if it was full, 4 options - 1 type of bread, mini muffins, 1 type of cookie and 1 type of brownie is hardly a "bakery." The staff of the coffee shop, Pono Potions, went to "check the freezer" and said there was only the same cookies and muffins back there.
