It's a cute spot but would not recommend to bring a dog there as the place is covered in foxtails.

I love Howe Homestead. It's gorgeous up here and a perfect place to head for a walk and take a breather. It's right near downtown, next to what I like to call "church street" where there are like 5 different churches. They have gardens over a large space of it and sometimes they have small fairs up here. They have a huge amount of parking and a little bridge over a small creek.

Howe Homestead Special Use Park is somewhat of a well kept secret. From the Park, via the Kovar Trail, you can hike up through Shell Ridge Open Space as far up on to Mt. Diablo as you care to endeavor. The park itself is home to many "gophers" . . . as a result of which the Park was at one time referred to as "Gopher Gulch". It is also home to many deer and wild turkeys. The park trail can be found via a footbridge over a creek from the parking area. The trail is nicely kept and circles the Walnut Creek Community Gardens. The Park's attractions include the turn-of-the-century "homestead" of Jim Howe, a word-reknowned AP correspondent. The main house of the homestead is now the Ranger's residence, and other structures include a barn, pump house, smoke house, etc. There are also many farm implements, beekeepers boxes, and the old farmhands outdoor oven. Also a restored antique pickup truck and station wagon add to the overall nostalgic feeling. The City of Walnut Creek also has one of the local Walnut Creek Rotary Clubs to thank for gifting the white picket fence which encircles the main house. All in all, Pretty cool !!! A great place for a stroll, to walk your dog, or to throw a ball with the kids in the open areas. There are also picnic benches . . . and they hold a great Halloween festival on the park grounds.

This park is a nice little discovery. You can run around on the large grassy area with your kids or dogs and you can wander through the community garden which is quite interesting. If you follow the trail on the left up the hill to Shell Ridge Open Space you can walk to the right along the hill tops with wonderful views and see some marine fossils. Around Halloween there is a harvest festival at Howe Homestead with lots of old-fashioned fun.

Great little park - community pea patch garden, and a short trail up to the ridge offering great views of all of Walnut Creek.

Wow. This is literally the largest playground in the East Bay I have seen and been to. If you know…read moreof any others this size or with this much equipment, would love to hear about it! While this park is a bit off the beaten path, I will say there is so much to do here for your kiddo (or let's be honest, you too haha). I feel this park has a lot of space and seems to be pretty safe, with Astro turf that I tend to not see at most smaller parks. There is plenty of parking across the street and nearby ~ with walking paths, a community center across the way, and picnic tables that we've seen many birthday parties/gatherings at. There are swings for all ages which for us right now is very nice, and it seems the area is split between age range which is also cool to see. There are fun 'hills' to climb with cardboard to slide down (this is where the Astro turf comes into play), and plenty of slides/equipment of all kinds for interactive and solo play. There are pretty nice 'larger' entertaining pieces of equipment (like a pirate ship that moves/shakes) for the older kiddos, and it's just overall a pretty epic playground to see/be apart of. Well done, can't wait to be back!

This park definitely needs an upgrade. The flooring needs to be redone, and there is a significant…read moreamount of tagging and throughout the area. The park is heavily used and showing a lot of wear and tear, so it really needs some attention, fresh paint, and general repairs. For the sake of the kids who use this park and their safety, I hope the city will consider investing some money into improving it. It's a great park in Walnut Creek and has so much potential, it just needs some care and renovation to bring it back to a safe, clean, and welcoming condition.
