For an injured right big toe that was bleeding daily and infected since December 2024. This was my very first time visit. Unfortunately, I didn't receive a warm welcome from the receptionist nor the doctor. I'm a 77 year old diabetic and immobile. The quality of care was inferior due to insufficient numbing procedure as well as a lack of patience, empathy and insensitivity to my pleads and screams for more numbing due to extreme pain. My cries for help fell on deaf ears. In return, he kept on grinning in my face. I had brought two people with me, my pastor and a geriatric nursing assistant; both stayed in the exam room with me throughout the procedure and was shocked by the doctors behavior. I've never been so horribly treated and subjected to this kind of inhumane experience. He didn't even provide my nursing home facility with any written followup for continuous care to the injured right big toe. Needless to say, I won't ever return to his office again. read more

Dr. Osterman is the real deal. I've been to at least a dozen podiatrists over the years and once I met him, I never bothered going anywhere else. Most specialists these days act like they are God and that every question you ask is slowly wasting their time. Dr. Osterman was the absolute opposite. His bedside manner is phenomenal, he urged me to ask all the questions I wanted and took time out of his day to ask me about how my family was doing. He's also clearly gifted in terms of his technique. Painful callouses that had given me trouble for a year were reduced to zero pain within an hour. The fact that NBA players trust him with their feet speaks volumes about this man. I'd recommend him to anyone and I almost never write reviews. read more

I have gone to podiatrists over the years and my last one was on his way to retirement. Since I was a young boy (I am over 40 now) my feet have had thick callouses and looked horrible. I asked my last doc about Lamisil and what I could do to clean up the mess on my feet; he did not recommend Lamisil so that was that. Then I found Dr. Osterman. He and his team have been fantastic. Every time I come for a visit, he would trim my nails and clean up my feet. They are true servant leaders. He prescribed Lamisil and within a few weeks my feet started to get better and now, they are perfect. I cannot thank Dr. Osterman enough for his kindness and great technical skills. He is a great doctor and excellent podiatrist. As a side note, I did lose my sense of taste (food, drink, salt and sweet) for about 6-7 weeks towards the end of taking Lamisil. This is a known side effect. read more

I went to see Dr. Osterman for the first and last time on November 9, 2020 for my left foot. He said he didn't believe in ultrasounds and gave me an exray, despite the fact I tild him I had a hairline fracture last year that was not detectable from an exray. I have been in very bad pain akin to my hairline fracture from last year. He told me I had very bad arthritis and wanted to give me pills for inflammation. He never suggested an MRI, but fashioned a ridiculous bandage that I was supposed to wear for three weeks. I don't take anti-inflammatory pills as they cause kidney problems. Dr. Osterman IS NOT THOROUGH and I would never go back to him. Consider yourself warned. read more

Good doctor, but the front desk staff are a mess. I have seen Dr Osterman several times over three years for a recurring foot/ankle issue (non-surgical). He is a good doctor, and prescribed braces and orthotics that mostly corrected my foot/ankle issues. I saw a different doctor once when he was out of the office, and she was also good. However, the front desk staff never call to let you know when braces/orthotic devices have come in, they don't answer the phone during business hours, and they don't return repeated voicemail messages either. Also, they are always running very late (20+ minutes) for appointments. If I need a podiatrist again in the future, I will find a new doctor because this isn't worth the hassle. read more

I'd needed bunion foot surgery for years and years, but had always put it off, as I'd heard horror stories about grossly unbearable post-op pain, and unreasonably long recovery periods, coupled with complete immobility. No thanks. Count me out. I'm good. When it became clear that surgery was going to be a necessity, I went to a geographically-desirable foot doc for a consult. "Two weeks in bed, mandatory," he said. "Crutches to/from the the bathroom, and for six weeks post-op. No exceptions. No driving for six weeks." Not only did I not care for what this doc was telling me, I did not care for this doctor personally. He was abrupt, dismissive, he didn't look me in the eye, and he sighed whenever I asked him a question. He was the last person I wanted near my feet. I took to social media for help, and came back with a referral for Dr. Osterman. Best recommendation ever. Dr. Osterman, in addition to having a wonderful bedside manner, is really just the most fantastic foot surgeon. Crazy good. It's a nice combo: radiating warmth and competence in equal parts. He thoroughly explained to me the surgery and the recovery period, and answered every question I had. Post-op, there was no pain - NONE. I had to lay around the house for 4 days, but I was able to walk around a bit on the boot (I actually walked around a lot on that boot - and it was fine). No crutches. After 4 days, I was driving, walking my dogs (in the boot),and living a normal life. My friends who'd had the same surgery were all incredulous at the absence of pain and the swift recovery time. Seriously, they were stunned. I guess those horrible experiences I'd referenced earlier were shared by them. Friends who were considering the surgery for themselves took down Dr. Osterman's info. From what I've heard, at least several friends have since gone to him, and all were delighted by the experience and think him just as great as I do. I'm going in next year to have the other foot done. I think it speaks volumes that I'm not dreading doing so, not even a little bit. Dare I say I'm excited? Okay, maybe not excited. I so should give this place 5 stars because the treatment I received was quick and painless. This morning my toe feels AMAZING!!!! The woman who saw me was well spoken with a gentle disposition. My issues were. The office could use a facelift. DATED. It's not very big I can't imagine it would cost THAT MUCH to make it look nice. My BIGGEST ISSUE was the fact that I thought I was going to see Dr. O. When I got in the room the nurse stated that Dr. T would be in to see me. I thought to myself "who the heck is Dr. T..." But whatever. I had a bit of infection due to a nasty pedicure I got (Review is here). My toe is brutally killing me! I've NEVER Experienced such! Oh well! I had a great appointment with Dr. Ahmad yesterday. I really appreciated how clear he was in his explanations while assessing my issues and discussing a treatment plan forward. The tech that assisted with my X-ray (from Trinidad but I forgot his name) front desk staff were also very patient and pleasant. - which tends to be rare. The office is older and the treatment room cold but that aside, for good service - which is ultimately most important - I'll definitely return and recommend the same to others. read more

Dr. Osterman repaired a hammertoe on my left foot last week. I'm a week plus into it and doing great. I can't say enough good things about this guy. He's smart, able to describe what he's going to do and why; he does not do more than necessary. The surgical center he uses in Silver Spring just exudes efficiency and sterile conditions- plus, the nurses and anesthesiologists are great. I have been seeing Dr. Osterman for many years. He has a good bedside manner-he is nice, funny and knowledgeable and has managed my condition well. I like that there is minimal reliance on PAs and nurses in this practice. When you have an appointment, the majority of your time is spent with the physician. Similarly, if you need to talk to them, the doctor is the one calling you back, not a nurse or PA. That sort of personal service is extremely reassuring when I am having an emergency. I also had surgery with Dr. Osterman. I really liked that he didn't overmedicate me with painkillers. I was never in pain on his regimen, but I was also not knocked out for a week afterward, either. He was extremely accessible before and after the procedure and encouraged me to be in touch about any problems. He checked on me frequently to be sure things were going well. I recommend Dr. Osterman highly, both for care of chronic conditions and as a surgeon. read more

My last podiatrist was difficult in scheduling appointments and no longer close to where I lived. I turned to Yelp for a new doctor, and found Dr. Osterman. I originally went to see Dr. Osterman for treatment of a patch of warts and for calluses. The warts had come back after being dug out (very painful and long recovery) a year before. Dr. Osterman wanted to try a less invasive cream treatment before doing any digging, icing, etc. The cream worked really well and my warts cleared up, without any of the pain of the other procedures. He also shaved down my calluses over a couple of visits and fixed my orthodics (after making sure I found them and started wearing them again). I was done with treatment and then a week later had terrible pain in my foot, so bad I couldn't walk on it. I just showed up at Dr. Osterman's office first thing in the morning without an appointment. Dr. Osterman could not have been more accommodating and nice: he worked me into his schedule then and there, had x-rays done in office and saw there was swelling in my foot joint, and gave me a shot of cortisone and a prescription to treat the pain and reduce the swelling. He was above and beyond nice, saying that if it was still bothering me to please come back and see him, even at his Bethesda office over the weekend. He also urged me to give him a call to let him know how I was doing. Dr. Osterman and his office staff were nothing but nice, professional and accommodating. I would highly recommend his podiatry practice and appreciate his concern for his patients and in trying to treat problems the least invasive way. read more

I came to Dr. Osterman's office (Foot And Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic) in March to help me resolve some heel pain related to foot injury earlier in the year. Based on internet reviews, Dr. Osterman was highly recommended so I decided to trust my hoof to his care. This was a good decision on my part because not only did my foot injury finally recover, but I had a great patient experience as well. From the scheduling of my initial appointment to my final check-out, everything related to his office ran smoothly and was stress free. In terms of the medical outcome, I appreciated that Dr. Osterman used only the minimum-required amount of diagnostics, procedures, and medications to solve my problem, without pushing expensive and possibly unnecessary extras. Overall, great experience and I will definitely return if I encounter new foot problems in the future. read more

Dr. Osterman is far and away one of the best doctors I have ever worked with. He is patient, sincere and devoted. It is readily apparent that the care and recovery of his patients is his primary concern. In trying to fully recover from bone spur surgery in one of my feet, I stumbled upon Dr. Osterman by virtue of a recommendation. I quickly realized how much merit this recommendation had. Dr. Osterman effectively diagnosed the causes that were preventing my foot from heeling, and he recommended an affordable and sustained treatment plan. Since following through with his treatment recommendations, I have fully recovered and am successfully running again three to four times a week. I cannot recommend Dr. Osterman enough! read more

I hesitate to be too critical because I only gave him one shot. But he misdiagnosed my problem pretty badly. I had come in with foot pain after using vibrams. As soon as he heard that, he felt sure he knew what the problem was. He taped it up, told me I had plantar fascitis, gave me a prescription for ibuprofen and said come back in two weeks. I was the sixth plantar fascitis case he'd seen that week, which had resulted from vibrams, and we were keeping him in business. That was a long time ago. I have since done literally hundreds of hours of research into my condition, and can't figure out how on Earth he could have come to the conclusion it was plantar fascitis. The pain was not focused in my heel and it is not present when I wake up in the morning. He didn't cause any harm, and he did seem like a genuinely nice guy. It is possible that if I had continued to use him he would have reconsidered his initial evaluation, and improved my treatment strategy. (I still don't know for sure what it is, but Morton's neuroma is the leading candidate.) So I think it would be unfair to give him one or two stars. However, rushing to a diagnosis based solely on the cause of the ailment, rather than on the symptoms seems like a pretty lame mistake. Hopefully, he has since done a lot more research on vibrams and the damage they can cause. From my own research, those awful things are tearing apart feet in quite a variety of ways, not just plantar fascitis. My bottom line for you is if you are unsure of your diagnosis going in, then do a lot of research on-line before you see him. Be prepared to challenge what he comes up with. Your problem just might be unique, and you might not benefit from getting the popular diagnosis of the day. read more

I saw Dr. Osterman to remove a painful ingrown toenail. He was excellent. He immediately diagnosed the problem (I wasn't sure if I had a corn or callus - or other issue). I thought the procedure would require anesthesia, but he said it would not be necessary - and he was absolutely correct. Fast, painless, efficient. The office staff was very nice and helpful. I had a terrible experience with this clinic regarding problem with my foot. First of all, I hadn't realized that podiatrists are not actual doctors until a friend told me last week -- they don't have actual medical degrees! - and so if you're searching for real expert advice, seek out an orthopaedic specialist who focuses on foot/ankle issues. It's worth it to find a good one. Clearly podiatrists have a lot of value in a number of areas, but they were not at all helpful in my case. Dr. Osterman assumes a 'care-free, jovial' presence and seems eager to provide "instant diagnoses" in a somewhat flippant manner, perhaps as a way to indicate his prowess in the field?? I wish he had put more thought into things. I saw him three times, and he completely misdiagnosed my condition and provided me with a 'rehab' plan that actually made things *worse.* He was also quick to prescribe strong anti-inflammatories and to administer a cortisone shot. I found out recently, after visiting an MD on the topic, that this treatment plan and the provided orthotic were completely useless all of these months. Moreover, there was no need for a cortisone injection. Even without an MRI, the answer was clear - I have a claw toe and I needed a toe-straightener insert! I immediately felt relief after three months of previous agony. Really frustrated that this wasn't determined earlier and that I unnecessarily suffered for so long. read more

Dr. Osterman is an amazing podiatrist and very kind man to boot. He is very experienced, and looks at your problems from a variety of angles. He is open-minded, such as his willingness to refer you for acupuncture or other complimentary medicine. Dr. Osterman also is a good and compassionate listener, and his office is well-run. Finally, I really like that he has a "lab" in his office where he can make minor adjustments to your orthotics; I've seen other podiatrists who had to send them to an out-of-state lab for even minor adjustments. read more

I wrote a review in February 2013 praising Dr. Osterman but not the office staff in the downtown location. Though my experience with the staff was iffy, I still continuted to see Dr. O. Well things have changed. The Silver Spring staff is still good and the practice actually took my review to heart for the downtown office and they have addressed the issues. Kudo's to them for really paying attention to Yelp and being willing to make changes. Recently I had a very extensive surgery with Dr. O. I have put this procedure off for 25 years becuase I had never had enough confidence in any foot guy to take on a surgery that involved actually slicing up my heal bone and reshapping it with a metal plate and then repairing more than one ruputred tendon. Well, I finally decided to move forward with this becasue of long term chronic pain and I can honestly say that Dr. O was amazing. He spent a few months preparing me for the diffcult road with the surgery and recovery. He made it clear that he had to decide whether or not I could handle it phyically and emotionaly before he would actually perform this procedure. I am in the reovery phase, still at home on one leg after 5 weeks and I have a long way to go. I start therapy soon. But I have no doubt I did the right thing and with a doctor that I ccould truely trust to do the best possible job he could. Since the surgery he has been connected and clear that I can reach out if I have any problem that he can help with. When we think of podiatrists we oftten think of the guy that cleans up our feet and cuts our nails. We forget they are acutal physicans and surgeons with extensive training in a very difficult specialty. A yelp reviewer MM wrote the review on 6/20 didn't do very much homework about this specialty. A DPM is a medical degree and In the US a DPM does the exact same training and rotations that any medical student does including neruo, pediatrics, emergency medicine etc. etc Then are specialists like any speicalist in medicine and sometimes we get more than one opinon from different doctors. Trust this guy, you wont be disappointed! read more

I had a very positive experience with Dr. Osterman and I recommend him, especially for athletes with ankle/foot injuries. I am an avid runner with a goal to run a marathon in every state. I fractured both the Tibia and Fibula in my left ankle during a marathon in late January, 2015 and I was referred to Dr. Osterman. Dr. Osterman was wonderful to work with and my injuries have recovered completely under his medical guidance. What I appreciated most about Dr. Osterman is that he explained everything clearly to me so that I understood X-rays, treatment and the bone healing process; this helped me follow his guidance and keep myself from trying to run during recovery, which is not an easy thing for a runner to do :P He had me back running by early April and I completed a marathon in June with no pain in my ankle. I am very grateful to Dr. Osterman for getting me back running! read more

Dr. Osterman is wonderful. I got a second opinion from him on tarsal tunnel syndrome, which had been misdiagnosed and caused me considerable pain and financial, mental and physical setback. Dr. Osterman rediagnosed me with chronic bilateral plantar fasciitis and after exhausting all other avenues, I finally had plantar fascii release surgery on my right foot in December. My custom orthotics are great and I am walking with minimal to know pain. I highly highly recommend Dr. Osterman--especially if you are tired of the foot pain or need an honest, concise second opinion. read more

Consider yourself warned: Do not go to Dr. Osterman for a bunionectomy. I consulted him because he looked experienced on paper--don't be fooled. I expected him to refer me to an orthopedic surgeon. He said he could do the surgery himself. I have no idea how successful the surgery itself was, because for over two months I've been dealing with the consequences of his very poor post-op care. He removed my stitches without examining the incision. My incision had never healed. Despite the fact that my tendon and bone were exposed, he told me I could shower and swim, putting me at risk for a catastrophic bone infection. Thankfully I did not follow his advice. Three doctors later and a follow-up surgery to address the incision, I am healing slowly. My incision still hasn't healed entirely, so I cannot get PT nor address the bones themselves. read more

I really like Dr. Osterman. I don't know if he'll be able to help me since I've only had one appointment with him so far but I went to him without much hope and left his office with lots of it. He's given me some possible solutions to try first and promises we'll go on from there if I need more help. Far, far more than my old Podiatrist who basically said he had no suggestions for me. Even if his suggestions don't help (and I think they have just a bit so far), he's such a nice man. I felt like he listened to me (and I feel so whiny complaining about my feet), thought about what I was saying, and took it seriously. He seems to have a lot of knowledge and expertise to boot. I waited 5 minutes in the waiting room and was seen by Dr. Osterman immediately. The doctor was friendly, professional, extremely knowledgeable, very thorough and diagnosed my symptoms with great precision. The experience was so excellent I felt compelled to write this review. I have had agonizing pain and really appreciate Dr. Osterman's care. He seems thorough, and find solutions rather than running up charges with the insurance company. Love that he 'makes' and customizes different foot care and inserts, rather than having me buy pricey equipment. The whole practice runs well, always on time, everyone both efficient AND personable and cheery! I'd give 5 stars but I'm not cured yet, so I'll revise when I'm pain free or at least pain/managed! Dr. Osterman is really great - he's caring, friendly and puts you at ease. He is also prompt, and his staff fit me in the same day twice when I had emergencies (like my foot getting run over by a car). Dr. Osterman even remembered me from three years before, when I had last seen him! I was impressed. He gave me x-rays immediately, and didn't rush to over medicate with narcotics. He provided pain-relief options that managed the symptoms but did not knock me off my feet unnecessarily. He also completely got rid of my ingrown toenails! I couldn't be more complimentary. read more
