I found this doctor through my insurance provider and conducted additional research on Yelp. I should have read more reviews before booking my appointment. I initially went to visit the doctor because of a bunion on my foot. I was not certain if it was related to a prior work injury and sought to have an assessment done by a podiatrist rather than my orthopedist. I completed the paperwork and explained that I had a work related injury which was still open but wanted to know what was going on with my bunion. Dr. Fox treated me for my work related injuries, which I knew about and was documented previously but said his office did not accept workers compensation. He claimed he would treat me without knowing my work related history and that my "bunion" was the least of my worries. I wound up walking out with a brace and a stretcher for my leg and paid my co-pay and told to come in for a follow-up a month later. I returned to the office for my follow-up and upon walking in the front desk informs me that I owe $215! I received no notice in the mail from either my insurance carrier or from them that I owed additional money. It was a complete shock that I found unprofessional at the timing. I inquired what it was for and she said it was for the equipment I received. Irritated, I contacted my insurance carrier and unfortunately I was indeed on the hook for that amount as it was considered "durable medical equipment". I'm glad I only received the stretcher and the brace as Dr. Fox originally wanted to put me in a boot! I can only imagine how much more I would have had to pay for that out of my pocket! It was then I had my "ah ha" moment when I now had to pay a significant amount of money for something that my own orthopedist could treat me for without any cost as it was for my work related injury that Dr. Fox was trying to treat me for as well. I paid my balance and said I would not be treated anymore by the doctor, asked if I had to pay for the visit in spite of not being seen and was told no, then walked out. I came to this doctor for a bunion and he treated me for my work related injuries. Upon reading other Yelp reviews it appears he no longer does surgery for bunions but whether he does other treatment is unclear. He should have informed me that he does not treat bunions at this time or something to the effect and not have wasted my time and money knowing full well I did not come to him for treatment of my work related injuries. I wish I would have understood my insurance plan better before accepting the medical equipment from Dr. Fox as I would have insisted he only treat me for my bunion and not my work related injuries. Regarding the balance I owed, thankfully I could afford to pay on the spot. Not everyone can. Maybe discuss large co-pays or deductibles with a patient before issuing them equipment that their insurance may or may not pay. Hence, even though Dr. Fox was nice and personable, explaining everything in detail, I can not recommend his services as in my opinion the treatment I received bordered on unethical. read more

After having a lifetime (only 29 years!) of zero discernible foot issues, I came to see Dr. Fox because over the span of 3 days I started experiencing bad pain on the top of my foot. Given how incredibly convenience his location is, and a referral by my chiropractor down the hall, I was able to make a day of appointment. Dr. Fox did a comprehensive exam and after diagnosing me with tendinitis, he provided me with a THOROUGH explanation of the causes of why tendinitis would develop, how it works, and how by body was prone to such an issue. Then we make a plan with actionable steps and an ankle brace and stretching device to take home. I feel like it's so often I come into a doctor, get a highly informed diagnosis with so much education and insight into the condition, AND a plan for treatment and prevention right away. Dr. Fox and his staff are the absolute best. I injured a toe several months ago, and because it continued to give me problems, I went to see Dr. Fox. I'd seen him years ago for another issue and had a tremendous and positive result. As I remembered, Dr. Fox is meticulous when explaining your circumstance and very detailed when it's time to present your options of care. He's an educator so he speaks in clear laymen terms that allow you to digest the info and subsequently make the best decision for you based on your timeframe. I HIGHLY recommend him and have been his patient for more than 15 years. Sandra is an amazing tech who is patient, knowledgeable and very concerned about your care. Ultimately, I opted for a steroid treatment because I wanted Dr. Fox to stay completely involved in my care and it was a treatment option that he could manage in his office. Again, one of the best podiatry practices I've encountered. Additionally, they have a time slot designated specifically for you so you don't wait hours to see the doctor. That is a must for me! I have been seeing Dr. Fox for several years to get treated for plantar fasciitis. First it was in one foot, which we treated successfully, and later in another foot that was harder to treat. He tried numerous strategies, explained them all well, and was very encouraging about the progress we made. I got orthotics in my shoes, a boot that stretched out my calves and feet, and eventually got a cortisone shot, which was not as bad as I expected. I appreciated how he tried to understand my goals for exercise and family activities. All around a great doctor. And the location couldn't be better in downtown Silver Spring. It's above the Whole Foods and in the same building as a great chiropractor if you need one. read more

I've been training for my third marathon without injury, until a few months ago, I saw dr. foxes office across street from the golf shop i go to. I told Dr. fox my problem, and put me on a full recovery program, that did not include any injections, or medications. He was very knowledgeable and offered a different approach to recovery. Dr. Fox's front desk senior staff misrepresented the services available. She indicated that Dr. Fox performs surgery. When I called to set my appointment I was clear that I wanted to see him regarding an bunionectomy. I then inquired about whether Dr. Fox performs surgeries at a facility that is "in network" with Aetna. I was told "yes". When I arrived for my appointment on 7/3 I reconfirmed this information with the senior front desk staff, and they added that they had a surgery center on the premises. During my consultation with Dr. Fox, he came right out and told me that he no longer performs surgery and he seemed confused about why his front desk senior staff would tell me differently. When I was leaving the appointment I confirmed the misinformation that was given to me with the senior front desk staffer and in front of Dr. Fox so that he could hear it for himself. He took no action. I called Aetna immediately to report this unethical misrepresentation of services available. In addition when I arrived for my appointment on 7/3, this same senior staff person told me that I hadn't met my deductible and that according to what they saw in their computer I had to pay the entire amount for my visit as part of my deductible. I assured her that I was only responsible for a copay of $30 (I know this because I have been to see other specialists recently). She refused to believe me and I had to call Aetna on the phone in front of her so they she wouldn't try to collect $109.00 from me instead of the copay of $30.00. In my experience it's unusual to be asked to pay before you see the doctor. Dr. Fox's abilities as a podiatrist aren't being called into question but his front desk are a direct representation of the integrity of his practice and he should have been more concerned and taken immediate steps to correct this situation. Verify all information with your insurance company, they are the most reliable source. If my $30.00 is not refunded, I will be following up with Aetna and other appropriate entities. read more

Dr. Bruce Fox is great. He is upbeat and cheerful and he has quickly dealt with my foot and ankle pain. Yesterday I took my son in because of an ingrown toenail. It was an involved procedure involving anesthesia and Dr. Fox completed it quickly and efficiently. My son is severely autistic, and Dr. Fox had such a kind, compassionate way of working with him to reassure him and get him through the procedure. After getting referred to Dr. Fox from a few of my family members that have seen him, I made an appointment to see him. The first time I saw Dr. Fox it was due to a fungus infection on my big toe and the second time I saw him it was for ankle pain. Both of these issues have been successfully treated by Dr. Fox. Dr. Fox is personable, friendly, funny, easy- going, thorough, patient, and was extremely gentle the both times he had to treat my issues. In both of my cases, he was very informative about the causes of my issues, treatment options, recovery time and what to do (if anything) to avoid these issue from recurring. He was also very patient in answering all of my questions. I was also very pleased with his front desk assistant, Sandra. I have a high deductible to meet and when I first visited, I had not yet met that so we discussed what I would need to pay for the services rendered. I paid my co-pay and then I was billed. The second time I visited, I had met my deductible so I just paid my co-pay, however, since I was getting a boot, we discussed the cost for this 'device' through my insurance and I ended up declining to buy this from their office and opted to find it somewhere else at a much lower cost. As far as scheduling appointments with Dr. Fox, I found this process easy and convenient. No problems in getting a date/time that was convenient for my hectic schedule (they office is opened late on some days so this was a good option for me!). Although there was one time in which I had come in for an appointment and the doctor was behind, I was promptly informed of the wait time and was offered the option of waiting or rescheduling (to their credit, they had tried to get in touch with me on my cell but I never checked the message so that was on me!).The office location is also easy and convenient to get to especially since I use public transportation in order to get there. Honestly, I just can't say enough good things or be grateful enough about the services I have received from Dr. Fox and his front desk assistant, Sandra. I highly recommend this practice to anyone! Its been quite awhile since I went to this doctor but I wanted to leave a review since its a positive one. I had been to numerous dermatologists for plantars warts. It was so bad I had multiple ones all over my feet. No dermatologist could get rid of them. Went to Dr. Fox and he is a bit funky of a doctor. But let me tell you he removed those plantar warts with surgery and they all went away like magic. Although I am posting this review almost 10 years later I cannot say enough about getting rid of those plantar warts. They have never came back after all this time. It was unfortunate that we were not given the opportunity to meet the Doctor whom a friend had highly recommended. Dr Fox is an in-network provider with our insurance and we were coming for a consultation for orthodics for all three members of the family. Arriving early for three consecutive appointments (1.30pm/2.00pm/2.30pm), I completed the necessary paperwork and provided my insurance card and ID to the lady at the front desk. After an hour of waiting, I was surprised to learn that the front desk operator had failed to contact the insurance company for eligibility and benefits and requested us to pay three co-pays ($120) which were to be waived since we had met our annual out-of-pocket. Her response was simply that "we are too busy to obtain verification of your benefits". To facilitate this process, I contacted the insurance company myself and had a representative verbally provide our insurance information. The assistant's demand for proof of benefits in writing from the representative (which they could not provide), was the office's responsibility to obtain by logging into the insurance portal. The assistant demanded we pay $120 in co-pays or we would not be seen. After an hour of waiting with two young children, having called the insurance company myself, and having had terrible customer service, I left. I am stunned that paying customers would be turned away so easily and so rudely. Being a business owner myself, I would be aghast if my clients had received such treatment. We have since gone to another podiatrist, a Dr Taylor in Silver Spring, who had us in on time, whose assistant had processed our insurance and provided the doctor with our benefits and informed him that the visit and orthodics were all covered at 100%. Three consults were processed and three pairs of orthodics were ordered at a value of $898 each. read more

I saw Dr.Fox for foot and back pain. I had seen a few other podiatrists and they had diagnosed me with "grossly flattened arches" and tried various custom orthotics that never helped. Dr.Fox was very confident that it was something else. He thought that the real culprit was that the tendon that stretched from my calf through my foot was not flexible enough and needed regular stretching. He said it would take a while but I would eventually see a dramatic improvement. He had me use a tendon stretching boot to exercise, and a large black boot and ankle brace to "rest" my tendons. I followed his regimen and gave it the appropriate amount of time to see improvement. There was no improvement and I am pretty confident his diagnosis was incorrect because the tendon has been shown to have normal flexibility and that securing the ankle does nothing. He is a nice person and has a pleasant staff, but unfortunately he was unable to help me. I am looking into other physicians or physical therapy for help. read more

I went here with an ingrown toenail/big toe. He told me it was best to have a shot of navacaine, and he would cut off the bad part, and laser the nail root so it wouldn't grow back and bother me again. The shots huirt like a MOTHER F...then he used a big clipper, shoved it under my nail, and I could still feel it, as if there was NO novacaine... So He gave me more shots underneath my toe, which hurt 10 x worse, finally killing the feeling, lasered off the nail root and bandaged me up. Within 20 minutes, the novacaine wore off and I spent the rest of the afternoon screming into a pillow because my toe felt torn off. I went back for my follow-up, was kept waiting, waiting, waiting, he took a quick look, and sent me home, and the receptionist tried to hit me up for another co-payment. I said, I don't think so-he didn't even touch my foot at all, just gave it a 10 second look. After all was said and done, yes, my nail never got ingrown again. But my insurance co. wound up sending me a copy of the bill and it was something over $3,000 +. Pretty pricey, and not really good at alleviating pain... read more
