I called my insurer got the doctors name, I called the office to verify coverage. When speaking with the office rep. (thick Latin accent) she verified my insurance was accepted. When I got to the location the rep then stated they do not accept my insurance. I asked why did you take all my information if you weren't sure you still accepted my insurance why didn't you use the information to verify before my arrival. Dr. Firestone was recommended to me by a friend-of-a-friend, who was very happy with her bunionectomy. Three months after my own surgery (bunionectomy plus a double osteotomy to correct my poor monster foot) and I'll second that recommendation. Excellent, wonderful experience - probably the best doctor I've seen in any genre of medicine, by far. This was my first surgery, and Dr. Firestone guided me through every step of the process with compassion and patience. I cannot say enough good things about him. His staff (both the administrative folks and the ones who supported me during the surgery itself) were equally supportive and wonderful. As for the surgery itself: Excellent. No issues and my foot is now a thing of beauty (as much as a foot can be, at least). Eventually, I'll have to get the other one done and have no hesitations about returning to Dr. Firestone's office. read more

Disappointing overall. I have gone two this practice twice. Once with a foot issue and I was prescribed orthotics. Ok fine, they hurt and didn't seem to help. My conditioned worsened. I went back 4 years later and they again prescribed orthotics only this time, I haven't heard from them in two months. When I called, the woman that answered told me it hadn't been long enough even though it'd been 4 weeks. She didn't even bother asking my name of pulling my file. If you need expensive orthotics and have 4 months to wait and don't care about customer service, go here otherwise there are better practices. I am going to find one and get my issue fixed for real. read more

Dr. Firestone is definitely the best doctor I have seen in a long time. He is very informative and explains things in a way that is very thorough but still simple enough to understand. He is patient and answers questions in a very kind and detailed manner. I need to ask a lot of questions to feel comfortable - he was kind throughout it all and I never felt rushed. At one point my partner was encouraging me to get a procedure done and Dr. Firestone made sure to ask me if that was MY preference - reminding me that it's my body, so even though my partner was ready for it - was I. We both really appreciated that. As far as his work its very on point and he is very cautious and meticulous. In addition, he is really kind, very easy to speak to and very interesting. Without a doubt, one of the best physicians in the profession. Dr. Firestone is extremely knowledgeable about podiatry and has a great bed-side manner (so to speak). His tenacity and drive to diagnose your condition, especially when it is not a text book injury, and then treat/alleviate the pain accordingly is unparalleled. He really seems to care unlike many of the other physicians in the Washington DC metroplex. Great experience with Dr. Firestone and the medical staff but I was a little put off when my request at the front desk for a digital copy of my XRays was met with a flat "No." I've asked for copies in the past at other doctors and they were either emailed at no cost or I was given an option to pick up with a fee. My first visit to Dr. Firestone was in the 1990s, when I was a pudgy office assistant with a toe infection that would not go away. A GP had prescribed a potent antibiotic that was making me sick. Firestone was the only specialist who took my insurance. The examination room walls were adorned with posters that showing that Firestone was a long distance runner. "Good for him," I thought to myself. He took one look at my toe, shook his head in disapproval at the GP who prescribed the antibiotic, snipped away part of the nail, bandaged it up, and sent me on my way. The infection went away after a couple of days. Fast forward to 2011. I'm a degreed professional and just completed my second marathon. I developed a tingling foot pain. Internet research led me to the name of the condition. Firestone confirmed my amateur diagnosis. He explained the cause of the pain and various solutions, starting with the least invasive and said that his goal was to keep me running. I appreciate his conservative approach and emphasis on staying active. I'm not an MD and therefore am not qualified to evaluate quality of care, but there is no substitute for his experience as a runner. read more

Because he is a runner, I felt comfortable going to him because I know that he understands the importance of treating a patient while preserving their active lifestyle if at all possible. He's friendly, honest, and provides all the information for BOTH of you to make the right choices about your treatment. The pain was pretty unbearable to the point when I had to make an urgent appointment close to work or I wouldn't be able to make it home. I saw Dr. Firestone's great reviews on yelp, called his office and he had an opening that day. Several great things: -I loved his staff. So friendly, so helpful -No wait. I was getting to ready to waste an hour of my life waiting for an appointment (as I'm used to with other doctors) but Dr. Firestone saw me immediately -He is incredibly knowledgeable and he is a runner! I saw him for ingrown toenails that he took care of very well. I also asked him about my constantly spraining ankles and he played with them and showed me on a few ankle diagrams what was wrong with them. He told me what the surgical solution would be as well as good exercises and braces to use if I didn't want surgery. I was referred to Dr. Firestone by a friend after seeing a series of other podiatrists. I hadn't gotten better and the other doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong. With an X-ray and 15 minutes he figured out the source of the issue, came up with a wellness plan, and we worked together to get me back to health. I've since been back for other issues and have referred several friends to him and his practice. He has an excellent bedside manner, clearly explains everything going on, and provides an excellent overall experience. His office staff are friendly and extremely professional. Dr. Firestone is a nice guy and seems competent as a doctor, but his billing system is terrible. Months later you continue to get bills asking for another $12 or $13. It seems your insurance didn't quite cover everything and they get to bill you. Fine. You pay it. Then, months later you get another bill asking for another $30. You wonder what is going on. You examine the bill carefully and realize that it looks like they can bill you for two office visits (because two procedures were done at once) and so I guess the insurance must have insisted on two co-pays, even though you paid $30 at the time of the visit. So, fine, you pay the extra $30, even though it is months after your office visit. Than, amazingly enough, another six weeks pass and you get another bill, asking for another $30. It's now entering Twilight Zone. Will you ever cease receiving bills from this doctor's office, even though you only made one visit, months and months ago and even though you pay each one of them in full? Will this office continue to find ways to bill you, into the indefinite future? So, this time, I examine the bill again, see no trace of the most recent payment of $30, even though that check was cashed six weeks ago. I call the office, and they say I owe nothing. The billing system is freakily sending out bills to patients who owe nothing. Until Dr. Firestone gets a new billing system, I'd say caveat emptor. read more

Huge fan. I saw three other doctors (2 orthopedists and 1 DPM) before I found Dr. Firestone - who I refer to as "Dr. Awesome Doc" - and was willing to have him cut me open. Tendon repair and 12 weeks on crutches - this was not an easy recovery. He is kind, responsive (email reply within 10 minutes sometimes) and most important for this runner, he "gets it." His surgical coordinator, Wanda, was especially patient (if annoyed) with my repeated pre-surgery calls, but helped ensure everything was covered. I could not be more pleased. Would recommend to anyone, but especially athletes. read more

The podiatrists seem to be fine, but the administrative staff is horrible. I placed an order for custom orthotics, which the office failed to place with their lab. I didn't find out for months until I repeatedly asked for the status and whether the orthotics had arrived yet. During this time, I received several bills for items that I never received (and in fact hadn't even been ordered)! And custom orthotics are not cheap. The first time I called to ask about the status, the woman who answered told me that I had already picked them up! Obviously not the case, and a sign that their recordkeeping is less than meticulous. Aside from the general incompetence, one administrative staff who works there is just plain rude-on the phone when she answers and in-person when you arrive at the office. It's difficult to feel confident in a doctor's office where the administrative staff is so sub-par. read more

Everyone from Dr. Firestone to his lovely staff was extremely friendly and caring and provided outstanding service. I am always greeted with a huge smile. Dr. Firestone is an attentive and personable individual who gives you the attention you need during your office visit and makes sure he addresses any questions you may have. I have had a surgery performed on my foot and he made sure he called the following day to check on me (on a weekend!) and made himself accessible. Dr Firestone is an excellent surgeon. I was wary about fusing my big toe (removal of joint). As a middle aged guy who is fitness oriented, and walking around the city at great lengths, I was worried I would be able to do less than I was doing. I had a successful surgery, and had to be off my feet for 7 weeks. My recovery was not bad, and with discipline I made it back to exercising slowly (still on crutches at the gym) and swimming. Nearly 4 months out, I'm nearly perfect. I walk great lengths and doing extensive cardio (things I hadn't done in over a year) . He asked me about my pain level on a scale of 1-10 and I honestly said 0. An extra plus is Cheryl who is his surgical coordinator! She's fantastic and they are aligned perfectly! read more

I went to see Dr. Firestone as a recommendation from two of the best doctors that have ever treated me; as a very athletic 34 yr old who is extremely prone to injury, I have experienced far more physicians in my time that most people do over a lifetime to provide some context. Dr. Firestone and his staff were outstanding. I was seen precisely on time and Dr. took the time to learn about what brought me to his office and what my concerns were. He was extremely thorough and did not rush; he translated my MRI results into English so that I understood exactly what was going on with the mechanics of my foot. He discussed treatment options available to me that day and potential courses of action for the future. The result for the day was that I was going to get a cortisone injection, which absolutely terrified me. I would probably get a patient rating of -1 (my own personal rating), however, Dr. was extremely compassionate and walked me through everything he would do to reduce the pain and discomfort I would feel. His approach was to take baby steps and make sure that I was as comfortable as could be. Max, a member of his staff and also outstanding, was by my side the whole time, allowing me to squeeze his hand. I have to admit that I hardly felt a thing except a little burning sensation. That injection did not seem to alleviate all of my pain, so Dr. offered to do another injection into my joint right then and there. The joint injection definitely hurt more than the first, but comparably, it was nothing close to what I expected, and feared. Max, again by my side, took the brunt of the pain kindly. The end result was that I felt immediate relief and also extremely confident that I was in the best hands possible for continued treatment. Dr. Firestone is top notch - he is clearly a master of his skill, but more importantly, he made me feel like his only and most important patient while I was there. After chronic ankle rolls, and a fractured foot I saw Dr. Firestone and followed his great treatment. His treatments are effective and thoroughly planned out. I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Firestone. The seventh, yup, seventh podiastrist and foot and ankle specialist I've seen. He listened to me, didn't dismiss my hunch, did an examination and recommended a treatment that has NOTHING to do with my foot. Turns out I have a hip problem. I'm so happy I went to go see him--he referred me to another specialist and hopefully that guy will help me. Just so impressed with how he didn't try to sell me on orthotics--was so kind and compassionate and just a straight up guy and doctor. Wish I had known him 3 years ago when all my problems started. I've only seen Dr Firestone once but I really like him. He diagnosed what I thought was a bunion as arthritis, which shocked me but I'm grateful bc no other Doctor questioned my bump to be anything but a bunion. I went in for Achilles pain and I liked his advise. He's a believer in natural healing and thankfully wants me to try hard to heal naturally and not take meds or get surgery. I love that. I first saw Dr. Firestone almost six years ago for plantar fasciitis. He is personable but I always felt like he was rushing to get to the next appointment. He was also very eager to get me into surgery, which rubbed me the wrong way. I had him make orthotics, which helped somewhat. The orthotics are wearing out and I needed to replace them. His staff took more than 30 minutes to tell me the insurance codes so I could determine if they are covered. I was placed on hold four times. They told me that I would have to come back in as a new patient and that I would be billed for a visit even though I would just fill out forms. The plaster cast that they used before to make the orthotics could not be re-used because now they use a scanner. When I asked what it would cost if my insurance does not cover, you would have thought I was asking the most impossible question in the world. I was not impressed and am undecided whether I go back. read more
